The Argyll Hotel in Bellochantuy,10 miles north of Campbeltown on the beautiful Kintyre peninsula. This small hotel has eight bedrooms, most boasting sea views of the Atlantic acorss to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha. The conservatory restaurant and lounge area has panoramic views of the ocean and islands too. A great place to chill and relax and of course to eat. The outdoor terrace with seating leads onto the white sandy beach of the curved bay where you can walk off your dinner. It is a great place too for children to play or to walk your dog. The hotel dates back to the late eighteenth century when it was built as a coaching inn and has remained as a hotel to this day. Modernised over the years the hotel still retains the feel of a traditional west coast hotel with is cosy snug bar but has the modern convienences of ensuite rooms with tv, free wi-fi access and an affordable seaview restaurant meaning you do not have to leave the comfort of the hotel.

23rd June 2022:

An exceptionally pleasant stay .Unintrusive staff mixed with huge friendliness and style. Individualistic touches and artistic hints of cosmopolitan eclectic decor were really nice to experience (for example, as one approaches the large restauraunt) The owners. Ian and Nick at the helm, very hands on, considerate and professional. The well thought out food menus were a delight not just to eat but to savour the visual culinary artistry. "The Team" looked after us well. Very clean all round with Covid safety precautions all there too. Very dog friendly. As yet there seem not to be any Fire instructions in the rooms to indicate what to do. Luckily there is only an upstairs to have to negotiate. A labour of love ongoing structurally- but not intrusive. All round, highly recommended.

Tips:

Beautiful beaches for walkers.

23rd June 2022:

This hotel is a total gem. Located directly on the beach, the views across to Gigha, Islay and Jura are stunning. The room facilities are really thoughtfully provided - the temperature, bathroom fittings, water pressure, smart tv, comfy bed, proper hairdryer, tea selection, and the views from the window all make for a really relaxing stay. The bar and restaurant are great with seating outside and in the conservatory with more of those beautiful views to enjoy while you eat. Ian's food is really delicious and the breakfast is worth writing home about. Nick, Ian and the team are incredibly friendly and helpful. They'll make you feel really welcome and relaxed from when you first arrive and are always around to help you enjoy your holiday, offering great local knowledge and tips.

Tips:

During our stay we enjoyed a few activities: A trip to Gigha - a beautiful island easily reached by ferry from nearby Tayinloan. Lunch at The BoatHouse and a walk to Achamore Gardens (and beyond) is a lovely way to spend the day. A visit to Mull of Kintyre and Southend - we drove to the car park for the Mull of Kyntyre Lighthouse and then walked down. After the steep walk back up we drove to nearby Southend and bought tea and (fantastic) cake from Muneroy Tearoom and enjoyed a walk along the beach path, with views of the Ailsa Craig. Kayaking at West Loch Tarbert - we prebooked a morning kayaking session with Dave at Kayak Majik. Being out on the water was a great experience and Dave is an experienced and diligent tutor, with lots of expert local knowledge. A visit to Skipness - We parked at the Seafood Cabin and enjoyed a delicious lunch, followed by an explore of the castle. The beach looks over the short distance to Arran and a stroll from the castle brings you to the old chapel where you can find medieval grave stones. During our three night stay, we enjoyed a meal at the hotel for two nights. For the other night we ate a picnic on the beach, watching the sunset from the sand.

Stayed on a stopover before travelling over to Islay - expecting to view it as a convenient stopping point. However our party of four loved all aspects of the stay. Stunning scenery set right on a beach, lovely staff, small but very comfortable and clean room. Breakfast was one of the best we have had. Good choice, good ingredients and really well cooked. Really loved it and agreed we will definitely return. Very dog friendly.

As always, staying at the Argyll and being welcomed by hosts Nick and Ian, is a privilege. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff or hosts when we stay either for me or my dog who gets so excited when we get as far as Tarbet because he knows he's about to get to the beach, the hotel and his friends Nick, Ian and their four legged furry companions! Good food, comfortable rooms and great company in a wonderful spot... who could ask for more be human or dog!

Tips:

Just make the most of being so close to the beach and with fabulous walks all around.

Tips:

Free things to do: Davaar, Southend, Lighthouse, Saddell - excellent Value for money eateries: Cafe and Indian next to the cinema - great value and worth a visit Rip Off's (sorry charge way too much) Distilleries, seafood place Skipness!

Lovely staff, very welcoming, beautiful location by the beach, easy parking. Good food too and my room was very spacious and comfortable. The only feedback I would give is that blackout blinds / curtains on the windows (room 2) would be helpful for the summer months, but that's just a small thing. Thank you!

Tips:

The hotel restaurant is lovely - great views and good food. The location isn't very near other things, but Campbeltown is only 15min drive away. The beaches in the area are beautiful and there are other small villages nearby.

This hotel gives their guests such a warm welcome making them feel relaxed immediately. Sitting right on the beach the views are wonderful. The food is first class of a standard you would expect to get in a more expensive restaurant. A good hotel to stop at if heading to the ferry to Islay or Arran. The trouble is you don't want to leave !

A wonderful visit made so much more by the professional, friendly and attentive people looking after me! The whole experience was memorable from Nick and Ian, their lovely staff and, of course, Winter and Logan! Not to mention the idyllic setting I had the privilege of experiencing…beautiful location on the beach watching the sunset! No to mention the menu…! A big Thankyou to them all!

Tips:

The Kintyre Peninsular has a lot to offer…steeped in history with a modern touch! The scenery is spectacular with lots to see and do…lovely walks and seabirds of so many varieties! Offshore islands by ferry also offer some interesting places , and, of course, for those who enjoy a ‘tipple’, the local gin and whiskey distilleries make for a very interesting visit! This holiday was a marvellous experience in so many ways!

We had a wonderful stay. Nick and Iain did everything possible to make our stay perfect, even giving us a flask of coffee to take out on a cold day. The hotel position must surely be one of Scotland's best, sitting right on the perfect beach of Bellochantuy with amazing sunsets over Islay and Jura to accompany excellent food and drink selections. Our dog was made so welcome in every area of the hotel, with a rug and towel provided for her in our room along with a lovely dog treat each day. We simply cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We will be back soon.

Tips:

Walking the Kintyre way or parts of it would definitely be a recommendation with its stunning views. Skipness Castle is beautiful especially at Easter with its lambs and daffodils. A trip to Gigha is well worthwhile, and there are so many beautiful beaches to visit including West Port, Seal Point and A Cleitch. Tarbert and Campbeltown are lovely towns to visit and the garden centre and cafe at Glenbarr is well worth a visit. The drive down the other side of Kintyre is stunning overlooking Arran, and now includes a gin distillery to visit. I could go on! We truly love this part of the world.

The conservatory restaurant with views out to Islay & Jura is a pleasure in any weather but stunning sunsets! Haggis spring rolls were delicious as was fish & chips. Lovely breakfast on Saturday morning. Always lovely staying at the Argyll Hotel Bellochantuy. Nick & Ian lovely hosts but the 2 Dalmatians Winter & Logan are stunning. See you again soon.

Rooms were comfortable ,clean, cosy and dog friendly with excellent showers. Wide choice for breakfast, lunch and tea including gluten free and vegan options. All the food we had was really tasty. We will definitely be back to stay again and would highly recommend to anyone else visiting the area. Can't beat the location right on the beach. Thank you to Nick, Ian, dalmatian pups and the team for being such fabulous hosts.

I was advised to stay overnight at the Argyll Hotel because it was known to be “dog-friendly!” This proved to be 100% correct and the welcome, facilities and attitude of staff far exceeded my wildest expectations! I arrived late (after midnight) but found everything had been put in place with a warm welcome, clear instructions and wonderful room, beautifully furnished and comfortable, with every comfort given consideration for both myself and my canine companion. Thank you!

Tips:

The warm welcome of all staff was exemplary matching the comfort and warmth of the room. Breakfast included a full range of options and the outstanding views of the Atlantic Breakers on the shore from my table are really something very special. With immediate access to a wonderful beach, this hotel is cell placed as a destination 20 minutes south of Tarbert and enabling visitors to explore many of the wonderful facilities and places of interest throughout the Kintyre peninsula. Tips:

Highly recommend the food in the hotel, wonderful. Being right on the beach is fantastic for dog walkers. Five miles away is the awesome Westport beach where there will usually be surfers of some sort enjoying the huge breakers. Campbeltown has some lovely little unique shops. Views are wonderful. This was (I think) our fourth stay at the Argyll and, just before Christmas, the first time in winter. We had a marvelous time as always, though there was no swimming in the sea during this particular stay! Despite the time of year and the dreaded Omicron growing, meaning that the hotel was very quiet, we were treated very well as always by Nick, Ian and their staff. We ate our main meal there every night and were never disappointed. Breakfasts are delicious too. We had a lovely room at the front with a sea view and since our last visit all bedrooms have been very nicely refurbished and look splendid. Finally the two ladies serving our breakfast on the morning of my wife’s birthday were gracious enough to accept my request to sing happy birthday as they came to take our order. Thank you all. Have a good break, stay well and we hope to see you again soon.

Good to find the owners actually engage with guests and make every effort to accommodate the individual’s needs. We knew the weather was likely to not be at its best for the time of year but, despite a few drizzles outside, the warmth and kindness of the staff, along with the lovely views, even in the rain, our stay was wonderful. We dined both evenings at the hotel and were not disappointed with the offerings and our choices. The teen and tween in tow were happy to have access to wifi in the evenings too which left us able to enjoy a drink in the bar, soak up the atmosphere and meet some of the friendly locals. All in all it was a fabulous experience and we look forward to visiting again in the future. Thank you all, Gemma, Eddie, Seth & Amelia

Tips:

We only had one full day to explore but made the most of it. We drove to Campbeltown and on to the Mull of Kintyre. We walked down to the lighthouse at the end of the road, quite a steep descent and ascent so be prepared for the walk back up the hill at the end. The views over to Northern Ireland, even with cloud, were spectacular! I'd love to see it on a sunny day too! We also walked over to Davaar Island from Campbeltown when the tide allowed and it was lovely to see the Crucifixion painting in the cave. Be prepared to walk over some slippery rocks but keep close to the land, take your time and you'll be fine. There were a few beaches between the Mull of Kintyre and Campbeltown that were just gorgeous, stopped for a quick look along the way and on sunny days would make a great day out and a lovely dip in the sea for those inclined to do it! So much more to see than we had time for, we'll just have to come again!

Lovely place to stay with amazing views and access to the beach. Staff were all extremely friendly and our room was fantastic - clean, warm, nicely decorated and with a perfect view of the beach. Lovely touch by offering a dog treat and towel for our pooch on arrival. Great that the hotel is so dog friendly and offers a great breakfast and dinner. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thank you!

Tips:

Local beaches are lovely. Not much in the local area for food etc. however Cambletown isn’t too far away to drive to. Definitely a great place to stay with a dog.

This is a well managed cosy hotel in an outstanding location. It punches well above it's weight, providing excellent friendly service overall & high quality, good value dining. Many of the guests were obviously regulars - which is the best recommendation you can get - & we too will be coming back. It also lives up to it's "dog friendly" claim.

Our Room was a spacious comfortable area recently refurbished to a high standard with all the usual amenities available . Good selection of meals available very tasty also a good selection of local drinks available within the well stocked bar. We will definitely return.

The décor and ambience contributed to a relaxing stay...congratulations on your tasteful styling!. Its obvious that a great deal of hard work and thought has gone into this lovely hotel!

Tips:

This is the best restaurant in the area! Lots of lovely beaches in the area. A potter around Campbeltown is a nice thing to do, as is a visit to Southend and Machrihanish. A return tichet for the ferry over to Gigha is only £5.60

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Argyll Hotel. The breakfast menu was inventive with unusual dishes as well as the traditional cooked breakfast and wonderful home-made jams and marmalades. We ate in the hotel both evenings and every single dish was a joy to eat. The Cullen Skink soup was especially delightful. We loved the ambiance of the hotel, the contemporary look, the beautiful views and the friendliness of the staff and owners.

Lovely food locally sourced and served in restaurant with spectacular views over to Jura and Islay , stunning location.

Just back from a lovely break, at the Argyll Hotel, it’s so good we’ve been here twice this year, the setting on the beach is amazing - and even if the weathers cold or dreary you can be guaranteed a warm welcome great hospitality and fabulous food, special shout-out to Ian and Nick who have put their heart and sole into the place and it show’s

Tips:

The Springbank Distillery whisky tour is a must if your in the Campbeltown area, really informative and brilliant value for money - and coffee and delicious home made cake in the Harlequin cafe was a good find. If it’s a clear day Southend beach is worth a visit and The Mull of Kintyre lighthouse is a must as long as you don’t mind a scary drive and a long steep walk, for a beach walk it’s got to be Westport beach or Bellochantuy beach to stretch your legs

The Argyll Hotel is a gem…..a must place to stay or book for a meal. The owners are so welcoming as are the staff & the food is sooooo good.

Tips:

There are too many things to see & do in the Kintyre area………there are free maps at the Hotel which are comprehensive in detail of areas of interest. The owners of the Hoel are also very knowledgeable about the area. The Kintyre forum is online.

One of our favourite hotels and locations in the World. Hospitality is just wonderful at the Argyll Hotel. Good food, good bar and the most perfect breakfast service. The owners together with their team ensure that every need is catered for and have created the most relaxed environment possible. Dog friendly too. There is a spiritual feel about the whole place and the location on Ballochantuy Bay with its gorgeous beach and views of Islay and Jura are breathtaking. Wonderful!!

Tips:

The Kintyre Peninsula is just so beautiful and totally unspoilt. So many bays and beaches to enjoy. Golfers heaven with Machrihanish Old Course and the Dunes Course offering world class courses.

Our stay was fabulous - what a wonderful place! Nick and Ian were lovely, as were the young ladies working at breakfast time. Speaking of breakfast - well, what can we say? One of the best selections ever, beautifully presented, and totally delicious! Really impressed with the vegan selection available too. The views from the dining area are breathtaking, as was the open sea-view from our room. We’ve recommended to lots of our friends and family already, and hopefully we will be back soon - THANK YOU!

What an absolute gem of a place this is. Ian and Nick are so welcoming and are the absolute best hosts. We had a sea view room, and we could hear the sea when we woke each morning. The food was delicious, and the service was spot on. Nothing is too much trouble. Our dog Poppy, even got the 5 star treatment. Ian made sure she had a rug to lie on whilst we ate. We had gorgeous hot weather, but know that we may not be that lucky again. It won’t stop us though…we’ll definitely be back. We loved it ! Thanks Ian and Nick. You’re both fab.

Tips:

We used the Argyll as our base and drove to different areas each day. Our hosts Ian and Nick are very knowledgable and give great advice on where to visit. It’s a lovely place to explore and take in the beautiful scenery.

Fantastic location especially if you are looking for a relaxed break. Spotlessly clean with well appointed rooms. Great food and drink from a surprisingly varied menu. Welcoming and friendly staff, who are happy to provide advice about the surrounding area. Looking forward to returning.

Tips:

Reserve a table at the hotel for an evening meal, soon after booking. Their menu is popular with visitors to the area and the sea views are special. Visit Gigha for a few hours, the ferry is less than 15mins drive from the hotel. Follow the K66 route around Kintyre, starting from the hotel. The adjacent white sand beach is quiet and the shallow water is great for dog walkers.

A true Jewell in the Crown !! We booked this hotel, because it was central to our travel plans around the area. In reality, if I had relaised that this place was as good as it was, I would have stayed all week. I am lost for words about this place. A spotless, modern hotel inside a traditional guest house setting. All of the most modern facilities, in a homely and pleasant surrounding. Perfect, just perfect. Food was excellent with a selection of modern takes on classic meals plus specially designed and seasonal offerings. Fantastic food and plentiful. Now onto the rooms, modern style, tastefully decorated, everything you need plus views of either the sea or mountains. Location: Nothing to say here except for perfect. The views across the white, sandy beach to Islay and Jura are truly spectacular and then when sunset arrives .... BOOM! The hosts, Ian and Nick are beautifully attentive and are obviously proud of their hotel. They should be, it is amazing and I for one, will return shortly, but for a much longer stay.

Tips:

The view is all you need to see. The view across the bay to Islay an Jura is just amazing. Dog friendly with a large beach and local walks for exercise. Centrally located in Kintyre, close to Tarbet and Cambletown. The carribean in Scotland .... nothing further to add.

This was my second visit to this hotel. The owners Ian & Nick make fantastic host's and their team of staff look after you so well and very efficiently. The hotel has only 9 bedrooms so it is often difficult to get a room if you suddenly feel like a break away! Once here with the setting right on the beach you are automatically relaxed and get the benefit of sitting outside with a leisurely drink of having something to eat in the conservatory looking out to sea and the islands. The hard part for me was leaving after 4 days and wished I was there for longer! All I can say to anyone staying there for a day or two or longer you will not be disappointed and you certainly will never be hungry as all the perfectly made meals are freshly made and delicious. This hotel is also dog friendly so your best friend need not miss out!

Tips:

Life in the Mull of Kintyre is set at a slower pace. The only negative thing for me is tht amount of driving every day to go places and the fact that the road system on the peninsula means that you are often on the same bit of road every time you go out in the car with a few exceptions. So saying there are lovely places to go, Southend, Campbeltown and Machrihanish at the southernmost end or up to Tayaloan for a ferry across to see Ghia for the day. Lovely walks and if you brought your dog with you then the beaches are fantastic to walk along and you could even go in swimming.

Warm welcome back to Argyll Hotel on a glorious sunny afternoon. Stayed in a bright modern room with a lovely side view of the beach and a big comfortable bed. After a long sandy walk and paddle enjoyed a fruity local gin on the terrace with stunning views over the sea and later , after a lovely dinner , watched the amazing sunset.

Tips:

Cannot beat this location! Right on the beach .Would be lovely even on a wild winters day . Drive down this side of peninsula has beautiful sea and island views then drive up the other side with narrow twisting roads but also lovely wee fishing villages , forests and beaches. Kintyre Gin distillery is a beautiful spot to stop . Very modern facilities with a nice cafe with inside and outside seating and good coffee. Also visited Gigha for afternoon and had seafood lunch in the lovely Boathouse ( must book ahead ) . So loads to do and see . Well worth a trip !

Magical stay for the four of us. Location, food and friendly and outstanding personal service from the staff. From sitting on the beachside sunny terrace to walks along the miles long sandy beach to the wide menu (we ate meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan between us!) and range of local drink choices (gin, whisky, beer and wine) we felt that it was a little piece of heaven. Could rave on about even the smaller things like the gorgeous home made jam but it is Ian and Nick who are the reason that this is an idyllic retreat and place that we will all return to!

When I arrived on a damp misty day, this looked a little old hotel from a distance; when I went in, it was a magical place, a lovely conservatory room with armchairs and tables to sit and enjoy a drink, and tables for eating in the window looking out over the gorgeous beach, the Atlantic Ocean, and (when the weather was better) views to Islay and Jura. The bedroom was well equipped and comfortable and had this view too. What makes it special, though, is the welcome and the lovely warm atmosphere created by Ian, Nick and the rest of the staff. Their food is brilliant and generous portions, and it is great value for money. I want to come back here next year, stay for longer and go to the islands!

Tips:

The Kintyre peninsula has a remoteness and beauty and a special feel to it that totally captivated me! Walk on Bellochantuy and Westport beaches, take your binoculars, enjoy the company of very few people but masses of seabirds like sandpipers, oystercatchers, cormorants and gulls.Sunset seen from this beach is amazing. Spend some time in Campbeltown by the fishing harbour, sample the food and drink shops full of local produce, and take the coast road to wards the island of Davaar and beyond. Further afield Tarbert is a nice place and Loch Fyne very pretty. The views on the coast road on the West of the Kinytre peninsula going North from Campbeltown are fantastic.

7th June 2021:

Nick and Ian are a great team. The hotel is well run and they make it a calm and relaxing place to stay over. We truly felt very relaxed and at home in your hotel. The food was very good and Ian is very knowledgable about food allergies which was a great help for me as I can find eating out difficult at times. Sitting on the terrace with a drink in hand and looking out at the sea and the white sand was a real treat.

Tips:

We loved Kintyre. It does have the feel of an island we felt far away from home (which was just what we needed when travel abroad is so restricted this year). We drove around mainly just stopping off at various bays. We enjoyed Saddell Bay with its Antony Gormley structure. We did a gin tour at the Beinn an Turc Distillery which is nearby and enjoyed that. We visited Southend and loved the remoteness. Cake freshly baked at the tearoom is a must. Husband said it was his best cake ever. We went to Campbeltown and walk across the causeway to Davaar island. The lushness of the countryside and proximity to sea is really what we couldn’t get enough of. We spent 3 nights in Arran and then got the ferry over to Kintyre. We worried a little about the journey home driving north through Kintyre before travelling south to North Yorkshire. However the drive was amazing and very much part of the holiday. We would do it again.

Nick and Ian are the most welcoming hosts ever. Booking in was quick and personal. Rooms comfortable with fantastic showers which was very welcome after a long day travelling. Views from dining room are just stunning with seating outside on terrace reserved for guests only - nice touch. Ate in house and have to say it was some of the best food in a long time. This place is a work in progress and it will be an absolute gem when these guys have finished with it. Don’t be put off by the view of the premises from the road!

Tips:

Beautiful beach right on the doorstep accessed from terrace. Don’t waste your time looking for somewhere else to eat, the food at both dinner and breakfast was out of this world. Would we go back? In a heartbeat!!!!!!

Kintyre was at its best for my 2 days at the argyll hotel and I was anticipating an enjoyable mini break . I was not disappointed. I was warmly welcomed when I arrived and shown promptly to my ground floor room which had been recently upgraded. Simple decor and modern en-suite with excellent shower . I was immediately aware that hosts , Ian and Nick, where rigorous in adhering to the covid protection guidelines and felt reassured that everything was being done to keep guests safe . After exploring the beautiful beach directly in front of the hotel I sat out on the terrace and sampled a gin and tonic from the extensive list of gins in stock. I really have to return to try then all! I recommend the Lussa gin. Dinner was delicious -hake in a light herb sauce with perfectly cooked vegetables . The day ended with an amazing sunset which guests can admire from the dining room or terrace . Breakfasts on both days were well cooked and presented. I had creamy porridge followed by a muffin topped with beautiful scrambled eggs on day 1 and the highlight on day 2 was the vegetarian haggis with fried eggs and mushrooms . Vegetarians / vegans can be assured that there are plenty of choices they can enjoy . I would say that if you considering a stay you can book with confidence and be assured of a clean and comfortable environment, a warm welcome and a relaxing stay in an area of outstanding natural beauty . Thank you Ian and Nick and hope to see you again soon.

Tips:

Make sure you have your camera and a fully charged phone as you will want to take a great many photos . A trip to the island if Gigha makes a lovely day out. You will pass the ferry terminal at Tayinloan on the way down Kintyre .

The hotel has a welcoming and informal atmosphere, as well as spectacular views. Being dog-friendly was a key reason for choosing the Argyll Hotel and the treats that were left each day were much appreciated by our four legged companions. We’ll be back again soon.

Our first time away with our dog. Nick and Iain made us feel at home. Our sea view room was excellent. A daily chew for Rosie and a blanket and towel in the room for her use too. A lovely relaxing atmosphere, the beach on our doorstep. We enjoyed the amazing food. Lots to choose from the breakfast menu. We booked dinner in the conservatory and the food was delicious. It was lovely to relax and enjoy our surroundings. A lovely outside area to sit and have a drink and watch the sunset. The service was outstanding. Will certainly be back for another stay.

The score on the Hotel criteria is all 5/5 ie 100%. But there is more to this hotel than that. It's a hidden gem and we have already recommended it to our friends. Nothing is too much trouble, all you need do is ask. Reasonable prices and a hotel on an empty beach facing West so you can watch the sunset whilst eating a great dinner! What else would you want? Andy and Nancy Phillips

We had an absolutely fantastic break, visiting the Argyll Hotel for the weekend. The location is perfect, it has such a rural feel and is right on the beach - what more could you ask for?! We were so comfortable at the hotel, as were our two dogs. It was their first holiday with us so I was a little apprehensive but the relaxed setting meant they loved their trip. All staff were extremely friendly and kind to both us and the dogs which was so lovely. Ian, Nick and all other staff members were great. Everyone was very chatty and helpful. We dined in both evenings and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. There was a great selection on the menu and great specials too. The drinks selections was excellent and we liked being able to try some local gins! Everything was excellent value for money. The room was cosy and comfortable, with everything you would need. The shower was fab - which is always a plus! We would love to come back, and will no doubt! It is so nice to know there is somewhere so great to take the dogs while on holiday.

Tips:

We made the most of the great weather and visited Gigha on the Saturday. We left the car on the mainland and just went on as foot passengers. It only cost around £11-£12 so very reasonable. It was a nice adventure! We had lunch at The Boathouse and then did a walk we had found on the Walkhighlands website. It allowed us to get great views from the highest point of Gigha over to Isla, Jura and back to the mainland. I would recommend a trip over to Gigha, it was a great way to spend an afternoon. The beaches are lovely. On the Sunday morning, we took a five minute drive down to Westport Beach. The weather had taken a turn but it didn't make the walk unpleasant. Westport beach a is wide, long beach, so plenty of room for people and dogs running around. There is so much we wish to explore, and will do on our next trip :-) Thank you for having us, Lauren, Dan, Biscuit and Paddington

Absolutely fabulous in every way! Loved the hotel so much I actually booked another stay before I’d even gone to bed the first night... The hotel is lovely, location is amazing staff very accommodating, however the overwhelming thing for me is the atmosphere - it’s pretty special, there’s no formula for that but these guys have got it nailed. The food is gorgeous with fresh seafood from Tarbert and a great variety on the menu. I am so looking forward to my return.

Tips:

Loads to do in this fabulous part of the world, Kintyre has a wild beauty and is also full of tranquility. Beaches are plentiful unspoilt clean and quiet. ( May ‘21 just as lockdown was easing) and it felt like the whole of the UK were heading North. Mull of Kintyre lighthouse is dramatic and worth a visit. Various gardens, Carradale bay in the East side of the Peninsula loads of excellent walking, the list goes on. You’ll love Kintyre.

Been coming here a long time. Some things the same, some new. Same warm welcome and familiar comfortable layout on bright ground floor, but now stylish updates in the rooms, with tasteful use of wood and lovely tones in decor, along with modern ensuites.Food was always very good but this time it was outstanding. Well done, you 2 and team!

Tips:

With that beach right in front of you, you'd not feel very inclined to move, but browsing around Campbeltown shops or ascending the steps to see the view from Tarbert castle builds a good appetite for the Argyll's dinners!

Sorry but its a cliche or two- very helpful and friendly staff team, good fit for the hotel, rooms complete after refit, great coffee from top machine, food well cooked and tasty, breakfast a huge success with good choices. The location is second to none beach view and access speaking! Splendid. It's a dog friendly hotel, dog owners really appreciated the tone etc and I think behaved accordingly. Dogs too! Great stay.

Tips:

Carradale, Saddell, Cambletown - distilleries in each - trip to The Mull, Southend, golf courses at Carradale, Southend and Machrihanish and 'Dunes'. World famous cake shop at Southend, book ahead for table, carry away possible for car sitting.Go to see Machrihanish golf course good bar restaurant there, wonderful beach.Cambletown is interesting with a few small shops and a good walk to the island.

Stayed here a single night whilst on business. It's in a fabulous location just a stride from a soft sandy beach. Very warm and friendly welcome. Cosy clean and modern room with a view out over the beach to the sea. Enjoyed an ample and flavoursome evening meal in the conservatory style dining room which again has panoramic views of the sea. Comfy bed facing the window and view, and with the window open, I like fresh air, it was great falling asleep to the sound of lapping waves. The following morning the view was enhanced with by bright March sunshine and after a hot shower and bracing beach walk had a hearty full Scottish breakfast. Couldn't ask for more! When lockdown is over will definitely return with the family.

Tips:

Only here the one night so didn't have time to explore but the coastal road from the hotel to Campbeltown has a wild beauty. Lots to explore here so can't wait to get back.

Yet another winner of a trip to The Argyll Hotel. It really is a blissfully peaceful place to stay. We started every morning with a walk along the beach before tucking in to Ian’s spectacular breakfast choices. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but Ian’s green eggs are a treat. We even got to sample some home mad jam that was so fresh it was still warm. Location and food are two very good reasons to visit but the friendly welcome and hospitality throughout our whole visit is definitely what makes us come back. You feel like the staff can’t do enough for you, nothing is a problem and it is all delivered with genuine smiles and warmth. Covid protocols were clear and we felt safe and protected. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you to Ian, Nick and their Bellochantuy Team, especially Talla and her waggy tail.

Food, hospitality and comfort were all excellent.

Stayed for a weekend with my husband & 10 year old son. Hotel was lovely, our room was of a high standard, clean and modern furnishings. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food was delicious and we enjoyed sitting on the beach front terrace with stunning views and walks along the beach too. Nick and Ian were great hosts. Definitely will stay at this hotel again!

Tips:

We drove a lot around the peninsula to take in the stunning views and the countryside. We drove down to the Mull of Kinture lighthouse to look over to Northern Ireland and spotted some local deer on the way! We visited the beautiful sands of Westport beach (5min drive away) which has huge sand dunes for kids to slide down (take a body board to slide on!). Kintyre Gin distillery was around 35 minutes away, which was a nice stop to sample and pick up a bottle of the various gins on offer.

This hotel was exactly what we wanted to come back to after playing golf at Dunavety, Machrihanish and Machrihanish dunes. Sitting in beer garden watching the sun go down was so relaxing. Rooms have been recently renavated to a high standard. Breakfast & Dinner was first class.

A very friendly relaxing hotel in a superb location right on the beach. Tastefully decorated comfortable rooms with everything you need. Food was great with a good selection to choose from. Very dog friendly with blankets, towels and treats supplied and great for walks on the beach. We stayed during Covid restrictions but this wasn’t an issue as all measures were in place. The hotel is small so doesn’t feel busy and staff are happy to suggest places to visit..

Tips:

We were happy to relax in the hotel with such lovely views over to Islay and Jura and wonderful sunsets. Skipness Castle and seafood shack definitely worth a visit and some good drives on single track roads if you enjoy country driving. GlenBarr garden centre and tearoom is nice and lots of seals to be spotted around the shore at Southend.

Beautifully positioned hotel right on beach. Bright and spacious dining room with great views and well spaced tables.Bedroom was spacious with a nice outlook and lovely White Company toiletries. Dinner and breakfast were both great and service was perfect throughout our stay. Will definitely return.

Tips:

Isle of Gigha was beautiful, just a short Ferry ride from Tayinloan, 15 mins drive north of hotel with several crossings daily.

Lovely quiet place to stay with amazing views. Great breakfasts and as we stayed for two nights we used the restaurant for dinner too. The hosts were very accommodating and adhered to all the new Covid restrictions that were thrown at us from Scot Gov, during our stay. Rooms were spacious and clean.

Tips:

The meals in house are more than adequate, so no need to drive into town for to find restaurants.

A lovely comfortable small hotel, in a beautiful location. We have stayed there a few times and each time we stay Ian and Nick go out of there way to make you welcome. It’s just perfect for a break and to visit the surrounding area. Couldn’t recommend it more.

A perfect location for us coming to play golf at Machrahanish. Hosts were really friendly and accommodating, making us feel really welcome, despite a fairly late arrival. Our room was spacious, with a large ensuite bathroom. Great view out onto the sea and beach. Good choice at breakfast, especially looks to be catering for vegetarians as well. Overall great.
