We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Argyll Hotel. It’s in a great location down by the beach with views of Islay, Jura and The Isle of Gigha. The food we had at the hotel was amazing. We really enjoyed our breakfast and evening meals, the only problem was we only stayed 4 nights and didn’t get a chance to try everything on the menu !

Tips:

A trip over to the Isle of Gigha is a must, it is so peaceful and beautiful around the gardens at Achamore House. If you like whisky 🥃 a trip to Glen Scotia and Springbank distilleries is a must although it was impossible to get a bottle of Springbank 15 yr old as there was none in stock and there was at least 30 outside at 10am next morning! Also if you are feeling adventurous a drive out to the Mull of Kintyre which is quite hair raising in itself before you walk down a very steep slope and then approximately 80 metres up to your right to see the memorial cairn dedicated to the chinook helicopter crash in 1994 when 29 people lost their lives. It’s very windy down there and the walk back up to the car park is not for the faint hearted.

We just loved this hotel even although we had a small room next to the front door and overlooking the cars parked outside. It’s a place where you can really relax. Nicely decorated, very light and airy, three separate lounge spaces, a restaurant with stunning captivating views over the Atlantic and a cute little bar. The breakfast was lovely with an extensive choice of very original dishes. The dinner menu was excellent value for money. All members of staff were absolutely charming and made us feel totally at home. A really enjoyable three night stay. We could quite happily have stayed longer.

Always highest standards - very laid back but really effiicent and enjoyable. Spotless modern interiors. The Breakfasts particularly imaginative , well presented and ample. Breakfast staff delightful. Ian a particularly good cook with lots of natural creativity. Evening service too pretty faultless when Nick on duty. Not a great variety on menu for Vegetarians though. If you don't eat meat or shellfish it is very limited. The the only sticking point for us.( No omlettes available for example). The lovely large and light restauraunt with great sea views is also a well-behaved doggie friendly area - hospitable and quirky. This not a disturbing factor to those of us staying with no doggies who love canines too. Bedrooms spotless with modern facilities . A little jewel in a stunning setting.

Tips:

Fabulous hosts Ian and Nick bring a considerate and individual vibe with highest standards at The Argyll Hotel, with two sweet- natured Dalmations! It has a beautiiful beach just outside with a big sky. Westport beach ( walking/surfing) only 5 miles away. Campbletown a little further. A great handmade chocolate shop in the main street along with other historical interests and harbour. Good cafes etc. Lovely preserved original Art Deco small cinema centrally in the town. Or leave Campbletown, (narrow lanes and dips! ) to the Southend for those who love exploring by car.

Our stay exceeded all our expectations. We were warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived. Our room was beautifully decorated and clean with a comfortable bed, excellent shower and stunning sea view. The breakfasts were huge and delicious and the evening food and drinks were the perfect way to round off a day exploring the area. Nick, Ian and the staff team couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful.

Tips:

My husband loved playing both the golf courses at Machrahanish and the dog and I enjoyed walks on the many beaches and trails. Particular favourites were Westport beach, Davaar Island and Saddell Bay

What a gem of a place this hotel is. The setting on the beach is perfect. The bedrooms are very clean and well presented. Perfect for bringing your dog/s on a fun holiday. Dogs are allowed in all areas including the conservatory where meals are taken and all are well behaved. The food is exceptional a very hearty breakfast and the evening menu is varied and very generous. Drinks are not overpriced for a hotel. The staff cannot do enough for you and are always happy to help and share their knowledge of the area

Tips:

The Kintyre peninsula is such a lovely place to visit. I cannot comment on restaurants because I always eat at the hotel but there is a great selection of tea rooms for lunch or afternoon tea. The beaches are so clean as is the sea, very little litter on the beaches. There is a beach around every bend in the road, some offer water sports. Campbeltown is small but very pleasant for a walk round. Two supermarkets, Tesco and co-op for any bits and pieces needed. A visit to Tarbert is a must as is a day trip to Gigha. You can also have a day in Arran by using the ferry on the peninsula.

The fact we take 3 boats to get here speaks volumes. The welcome and hospitality is fab from Nick and Ian and the food is divine. We talk about this hotel often and just going able to relax here is fabulous. We will be back.

Tips:

Hotel is situated right on the beach and tge restaurant overlooks this which is stunning. It might be a little out if the way but if wanting to stay in Campbeltown, go this bit further and you won't be disappointed. Good parking. Clean modern rooms and 2 beautiful dogs. If bringing your dog they get their own sheet in the information book.

This was a return visit for us as we enjoyed our first visit so much. We love the relaxed friendly feel of this hotel, and the warm welcome is extended to your canine companions. On arrival as well as all your needs being met in the spacious rooms you are provided with an extra towel and blanket for your dog and a little treat for them. We really enjoyed the three course dinner with lots of choices followed by a drink in the bar with Luna our spaniel who was really excited to see the hosts dalmatians Winter & Logan. After a great night’s sleep a lovely full Scottish breakfast set us up perfectly for the day. Thanks again for another really enjoyable stay in your truly dog friendly hotel.

Tips:

The hotel beach is lovely for an evening walk or first thing in the morning. For a longer walk we headed down to Westport Beach a short drive down the coast. In our travels we stopped at Big Jessie’s Tea Room at Gigha Ferry Port for lunch another local dog friendly stop. On our way home this time we took a slight detour to visit the Crinan Canal where we stopped for a coffee and a slice of cake at Polly’s Coffee Stop a great local business running out of a converted horse box parked at one of the locks.

If the weather is nice, just sit in the beer garden, watch the sunset.

Absolutely loved staying here, the atmosphere was so welcoming and relaxing. The food was very good, nice selection and well cooked. There are no words to say how good the breakfast was. Nick was very attentive and made us feel totally at home. The room was lovely and we slept to the sound of the waves, the only downside was the pillows were really hard and uncomfortable for us. Will definitely be back.

Tips:

The only tip I have is look out the window, sit back and relax. Stunning location.

Excellent place to chill out . Had a lovely weekend even though weather wasn't so pleasant , Ian,Nick and all the staff made our weekend enjoyable with brilliant meals and friendly atmosphere.Beach walks for us and our dog right by the hotel made it the ideal location.

Tips:

For the amount of hotels I stay in for work I don't normally write reviews, but this has surpassed my expectations. Hotel doesn't look much from the initial outside at front, however once you go inside it has clearly not long been renovated, and to a very high standard. Staff were excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Room clean and well maintained. Food was lovely within the conservatory overlooking the beach/bay, along with sperate bar area, and separate lounge areas. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here (even though just one night). Will be using again.

On arrival, I met by Nick a warm reception, his knowledge of whisky and gin was very good, and all described on the drinks list, I would recommend the Kintyre gin. Later, we met Pam, a lovely lady, a true asset to the hotel. One of the dogs' tummy was not as well as we would like. Kindly, Pam asked the chef if he would cook our eggs for the dogs, no, not a problem at all. Met Ian with their dogs on the beach. Our dogs were provided with towels, blankets, and a chew each. Lovely touch. Fabulous hotel decor is lovely. We ate our evening meal in the restaurant the mussels was an excellent choice! Breakfast cooked by Ian, who cooked my eggs to perfection along with a muffin and smoked salmon. Tim had the full Scottish breakfast. Both Excellent!!!

Tips:

Although only on Kintyre for one night and the weather was not as its best to see the beauty, we managed to get to see Anthony Gomelys man on the edge of the sea, Grip. You have to walk from the estate drive at Saddle 0.4 mile to the beach where you will see him stood looking out to Arran, well woth a visit if you like art. Glen bar is a little village off the main road, there is a garden centre with a lovely shop, this was recommended to us for lunch but after our breakfast no lunch was necessary.

This was a superb find! The hotel is situated right on the beach at Bellochantuy bay and not too far from Campbeltown. We travelled with our dog and our room was on the ground floor at the front of the hotel. The room itself was of a good size with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was a superbly appointed wet-room with good toiletries. We ate at the hotel on the evening and couldn't have asked for a better meal. The meals are served in the conservatory overlooking the beach and are of a very high standard. The staff are friendly and very professional. We couldn't have asked for more. Our only regret is not booking a second night!

Tips:

Book a table if you wish to eat here. We went slightly out of season and the restaurant was busy with people turned away.

Very smooth and generous checking in time. Very happily greeted by Logan and Winter (the doggie components of the family)-very waggy and well -behaved but not jumping up. Beds very comfortable and lovely cool room as it was heatwave time, and extremely clean. Stayed for Dinner which was tasty and creatively put together by Olaf. Lovely breakfast with exceptional and friendly staff. Wonderful .

Tips:

Amazing beach outside. Also very close to Westport Beach-incredibly long and sandy with good sized car-park. (Have not been there in Summer though) Bird watching and such a beaitiful coast to travel along with the ferry turnoffs to Gigha and Jura not so far along for a day trip out.

A fantastic holiday was enjoyed by all during our week's stay. Impressed from the first phone call to leaving, from warm, kind proactive hosting, excellent service to both humans and pooches, truly amazing, to making us all feel very special. A first class business model for all hoteliers and those in hospitality, long may you continue. Kintyre's assets are it's wonderful people, one of our best holidays to date, may we thank you and every single member of your Team and let you know how we have appreciated every minute detail. See you again next month!

Tips:

The weather was exceptionally warm, the heat felt by our beloved furry pooches. No matter the weather there is so much to see and do, in shade if needs be, from the stunning Mull of Kintyre to the beautiful village of Tarbert.

The staff were lovely, room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only downside (and it wont apply to all rooms)… we have ha room that had a low slanted ceiling (because of the roof). My husband is 6ft 3 and I am 5ft 8. I banged my head off the ceiling in the bedroom and bathroom more than once. A combination of design and user error is the only negative I can report on our stay. Will be back for future visits.

Tips:

The food and drink in the hotel is lovely. There are small rock paintings and glass pictures to buy in the hotel itself. You do need to book for dinner in advance if you are visiting as they are very busy. A great guide map was provided in our room which was helpful for planning our next visit.

The most dog friendly hotel we have ever used .Ian and Nick plus all the staff make you feel welcome and at home , the location is second to non with the terrace giving direct access to a beautiful white sandy beach . The food is extremely good value although the Argyll Hotel is the only place to eat for miles they do not take advantage of this and the prices haven’t really changed in the four years we have been visiting. Service is extremely quick and nothing seems to much trouble ,a quiet little corner of heaven with views to sit and drink in , maybe over a very reasonably priced bottle of wine.

Tips:

Visit The island or Gigha , the ferry is only 15 mins away for fresh seafood served on the beach at the Boat house and the most wonderful unspoilt beaches .

An absolute gem of a hotel. Lovely spacious room, recently modernised. Lovely friendly staff. Backing right onto the beach ,with glorious views from the restaurant of Islay, Ghia and Paps of Jura. Excellent food-both dinner and breakfast, with quick service throughout. I have travelled extensively all over the world, during the past 50 years, and without doubt this is one of the very best hotels in which I have stayed. I shall definitely be back again. Best wishes to Ian, Nick and all the team.

Tips:

There is probably plenty to do-beach walks etc., - near to the hotel. However, Campbelltown is an interesting place to visit, and much more vibrant than I thought it might be. Linda McCartney Memorial Garden is especially interesting. Lots of nice shops, e.g. Coorie Doon Gift shop on the main street. Southend and Makrahanish are lovely places to visit. We had a great weekend at the Argyll Hotel so dog friendly. They couldn’t have been anymore accommodating for us. My dog Sam had a great time meeting Nick & Ian’s Dalmatian’s Logan & Winter and running about the beautiful white sandy beach. The food was excellent, clean and friendly and to step out onto the terrace to a beautiful beach is why we choose to stay here. I would definitely recommend especially if you have a dog.

Tips:

The hotel for one is where to eat the food was great and there is so much to see and do especially if you are a Paul McCartney fan visit Saddell Bay where his video was filmed for the song Mull in Kintyre. The cottage is still there but hidden amongst the trees. Also the lighthouse but while we were here it was closed to public so you couldn’t get down to it and to just the coast the beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise waters like Westport beach just 10 mins along from hotel, Machrihanish, Southend, Dunaverty & the best place to go for a roll & sausage is The Larder, Campbeltown. When we visit again we are definitely going to take a boat trip over to Isle of Gigha and in low tide walk over to Isle of Davaar.

I wish I could have spent a whole week here. Everything was above our expectations. The friendliness, professionalism, food and location are wonderful. Our dog was treated like a guest. When I find a hotel that provides a top sheet on the bed, I know it’s a good un’! Thank you so much and hope to return.

Another brilliant stay, Ian and Nik are fantastic hosts who always go the extra mile. All the facilities are first class and the food is way above the normal. I would also like to praise the rest of the team who are also fantastic. Looking forward to our next stay. All in all we would highly recommend this hotel and anyone choosing to stay there will not be disappointed. Almost forgot to mention Logan and Winter the resident Dalmatian’s who our Collie Ted fell in love with. Grant and Peggy Marlow with Ted

Warm, friendly and welcoming place with plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the scenery, play games and chill out. Outside terrace was perfect to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sea view. Love how dog friendly they are too. All of the team were excellent and made sure we had a lovely stay- thank you!

Another brilliant few days away, staff very attentive if you require anything, Great team of people that work well together. Its a real treat for us to go here,

Tips:

This was a relaxing break, however, there are numerous things to do from walking on the beach (hotel sat on it), to visiting near by beaches, islands and of course Campbeltown. Information on front desk inside hall way. There are some places to eat in Campbeltown, however, beautifull meal to be had in the hotel itself. Dogs are very welcome.

I stayed here 2 years ago and loved it. The ow era Ian and Nick have got everything right. They are so friendly and welcoming. The food is brilliant and there are really nice places to sit and relax. They even have a good draught beer (rate in this area). If the weather is good there is a lovely patio from which to look at the beach the sea at the birds. It is also very good value indeed.

Tips:

It is in a wonderful position next to a 2 mile long sandy beach. Another great beach Westport is near. You can get ferries to Islay and Gigha a few miles away. The Kintyre peninsula is delightful and unspoiled. Apart from Campbeltown it is very scarcely populated.

Lovely clean hotel next to beach. Beautiful views over to Islay, Jura and Gigha. Owners Nick and Ian a delight as well as staff. Food was superb both breakfast and dinner.

Tips:

If it's your thing, a perfect place for a quiet getaway. Nearest place about 10 miles away is Campbeltown which would be an option for stuff to do. Machrihanish for golf if that's your thing. Kintyre way not far away either.

Dinner was first class and served in the dining room overlooking the beach. Breakfast is a must if you stay here and worth paying the extra for. There is a beautiful terrace outside where you can relax and listen to the waves. All in all, a relaxing little gem of a place, thank you for a lovely stay Ian and Nick.

Beautiful couple of days at Argyll Hotel Bellochantuy . An amazing escape created by the lovely Ian and Nick on the Argyll peninsula. Blown away by kindness and hospitality ! Fantastic ambience, food, scenery and company. Beautiful rooms, cool and laid back feel and an amazing staff team and service too. Nothing too much trouble for their guests. I felt really looked after as was struggling with dietary issues - all went out their way to ensure I had great food too. Dogs very welcome which is such a great feeling, to know that your furry friends can enjoy a great break too. They are well catered for with beach towels and bowls. Beach on your doorstep is fabulous and the sunsets are just spectacular from the terrace after dinner. Do check it out if you want to experience the Scottish Atlantic coast at its best in any season in an absolute home from home. So glad we made the journey at last - an easy drive from Edinburgh with a stop on the way for lunch at one of the lovely west coast havens. We will be back. Booked our next wee break already!

Tips:

All you need is right there with great beaches and scenery all around. Campbeltown and Tarbert well worth visiting, with local distilleries and funky shops and cafes. Great walks for you and your dog. Don’t go anywhere else for dinner. Food is amazing !

This hotel is an absolute gem in a wee piece of paradise . The location is superb , the rear terrace overlooking the stunning beach is perfection. Nick is the perfect host and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is superb, our room was well decorated with a superb en suite which were both super clean. Our room was sea facing with a large door which opened fully for breathtaking views . We are not dog owners but thought having the owners dogs who are both beauties and perfectly behaved wandering around gave the hotel a real homely feel (they are not around at meal times which is also spot on) Do yourselves a favour folks if you are visiting Campbeltown or surrounding area give this place a look . You won’t be disappointed!!

Tips:

We are pretty well travelled around Scotland over the years but didn’t venture to this area until last year . It really is stunning in parts so we would say just visit and enjoy the scenery. It has also got to be said that the locals here are the friendliest you will ever meet.

What a delight this hotel is, from the location, to the food and the staff, and more importantly the beautiful Dalmatians Logan and Winter. We stayed here in 2019 and they’ve had a refurbishment, the rooms are lovely and modern and so comfortable. You really feel like home from home, such a cosy and welcoming stay. All the guests are friendly and typically return each year. We were able to park our motorbikes at the back of the hotel which is always a comfort for security albeit the area is not an issue. The view of Islay and Jura is to die for, and if you’re lucky you’ll get a stunning sunset. Nick and Ian are delightful hosts and nothing is an issue. Location was brilliant. The room was very modern, nicely decorated and comfortable with a nice powerful shower. The attention to detail for guests was spot on, even down to a treat for our dog each day! We don’t normally eat in the hotels we are staying in but head to restaurants however, the food was excellent, piping hot and the view from the conservatory whilst dining was fantastic so we ate in on all 3 nights so we could work through the menu a bit. The owners and staff were all very pleasant and the service was excellent. The bar is well stocked with many different gins and whiskies, some quite unusual ones too. We had a very relaxing stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again

Tips:

The cave painting on Davaar island is impressive but be aware, it is a scramble over boulders to get there. The beach at the front of the hotel is over a mile long and was deserted. Westport beach just along the road is excellent too. Campbeltown and Tarbert are worth visiting, a day trip to Gigha, Carradale Bay are recommended too. Take a trip to Southend where you are pretty close to Ireland and if there you have to go to the Muneroy tearoom, the list of cakes seemed endless which the waitress knew off heart and the slice of cake my wife had was massive but VERY light and delicious.

I only wish I had been there for a leisure break, so that I could take a long walk on the beach. The hotel team are very friendly. I experienced a very warm welcome, which was lovely after a long day of travelling. Also, the hotel is dog friendly, a major plus in my book. I have already recommended to friends.

Once again i was warmly welcomed by Nick, Iain and Morag, who each in their own way and without being intrusive, made me feel like an honoured guest. There was really nothing which in any way fell short of perfect and although my stay this time was brief, i felt relaxed, refreshed and sustained when i left. The staff are particularly dog friendly and the entire hotel is a sea of tranquility despite the raging storm which may be brewing outside.

Tips:

The Aryll Hotel in Bellochantuy is perfectly located to enable visitors to explore the entire Kintyre Penisula on which there a wide and variable range of activities to explore. From walking the kintyre Way, to touring the beautiful coastline, enjoying spectacular views and scenery and enjoying the many local visitor centres such as distilleries, golf courses and Heritage Centre. Make time to enjoy the hotel as well for nothing needs to be rushed. Lovely hotel in a great location right by the beach. Really friendly owners that make you feel welcome. The dining room conservatory has wonderful sea views and the food very good. Beakfasts were wonderful. Rooms clean and comfortable, recently refurbished to a high standard. Lovely bar and plenty of areas to sit and relax. Proximity to the beach is a real plus!

Tips:

We love how you can see so much of the sea on the Kintyre peninsula with the road running along side of it much of the way. You have views west to open sea, the islands and Ireland and the views east to Arran and the mainland. Southend has lovely beaches to walk along. It's worth the hike down to the lighthouse on the Mull of Kintyre, or at least half way to get the views. If you love the north west coast of Scotland, you'll love Kintyre just as much. It feels like being on a big island.
