Tips:

The Wee Isle Gigha is a must-go-to-place. Hire a bike there and explore the trails. It never rains on Gigha-just take sun cream. Ignore the wild bull at the top of the island-it's very friendly and is usually found blocking your path somewhere.

Had a fantastic stay. Nick and Ian couldn’t be more welcoming. We stayed in a sea view room with a balcony, just so lovely to go to sleep listening to the waves. Room was comfy and warm, only small criticism is that the pillows were too firm for our liking. Food was delicious, though be warned, portions are huge! Our dog thought she was in heaven being so close to the beach. We’ve already booked our next stay.

The night sky (on a clear night) is breathtaking. Westport beach only a few miles away. Another clean beautiful beach. A few miles more into Campbeltown and down to Southend/Mull of Kintyre. Cannot fault this hotel which is ideally situated to explore Argyll. My husband and I stayed for two days with the dog. Very relaxing location and atmosphere within the hotel. All staff very pleasant. Choice and standard of food & drink very good and reasonably priced. Fine selection of wines and spirits from local distilleries. Dogs welcome within all areas of the hotel. Would highly recommend.

We took the dog and walked on the beach behind the hotel in the morning and evening. During the day we drove to Machrihanish, Westport and Carradale Bay for lovely walks. The scenery here in Argyll is stunning.

On arrival, I met by Nick a warm reception, his knowledge of whisky and gin was very good, and all described on the drinks list, I would recommend the Kintyre gin. Later, we met Pam, a lovely lady, a true asset to the hotel. One of the dogs' tummy was not as well as we would like. Kindly, Pam asked the chef if he would cook our eggs for the dogs, no, not a problem at all. Met Ian with their dogs on the beach. Our dogs were provided with towels, blankets, and a chew each. Lovely touch. Fabulous hotel decor is lovely. We ate our evening meal in the restaurant the mussels was an excellent choice! Breakfast cooked by Ian, who cooked my eggs to perfection along with a muffin and smoked salmon. Tim had the full Scottish breakfast. Both Excellent!!!

Tips:

Although only on Kintyre for one night and the weather was not as its best to see the beauty, we managed to get to see Anthony Gomelys man on the edge of the sea, Grip. You have to walk from the estate drive at Saddle 0.4 mile to the beach where you will see him stood looking out to Arran, well woth a visit if you like art. Glen bar is a little village off the main road, there is a garden centre with a lovely shop, this was recommended to us for lunch but after our breakfast no lunch was necessary.

This was a superb find! The hotel is situated right on the beach at Bellochantuy bay and not too far from Campbeltown. We travelled with our dog and our room was on the ground floor at the front of the hotel. The room itself was of a good size with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was a superbly appointed wet-room with good toiletries. We ate at the hotel on the evening and couldn't have asked for a better meal. The meals are served in the conservatory overlooking the beach and are of a very high standard. The staff are friendly and very professional. We couldn't have asked for more. Our only regret is not booking a second night!

Lovely breakfast with exceptional and friendly staff. Wonderful .

A first class business model for all hoteliers and those in hospitality, long may you continue. Kintyre's assets are it's wonderful people, one of our best holidays to date, may we thank you and every single member of your Team and let you know how we have appreciated every minute detail. See you again next month!

Tips:

The weather was exceptionally warm, the heat felt by our beloved furry pooches. No matter the weather there is so much to see and do, in shade if needs be, from the stunning Mull of Kintyre to the beautiful village of Tarbert.

I had the best 50th birthday I could imagine having a perfect dinner whith my family and on top whith a stunning view on the atlantic ocean. The staff at Argyll Hotel was very friendly and the food is fresh and tasty. (Leave some space for the delicious desserts!). Also the breakfast was extraordinary whith vegan and glutenfree options. The rooms are very clean and well equiped.

Tips:

We had a wonderfull walk along the beautiful beach and went to have a tour at Springbank Distillery (Book in advance). Campbeltown is also really worth a visit.

Wonderful location and equally wonderful owners and staff. I travel solo with my dog Isabella and I couldn’t have found a more perfect place. The food was a very high standard and again the service was exemplary. Such a friendly place, it really is a credit to Nick and Iain.

Tips:

Just enjoy the peninsula, I had a nice trip to Gigha. Call for a cuppa and a piece of cake at the ferry terminal. A drive on the other side is well worth it, there are some lovely secluded spots to chill out.

The staff were lovely, room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only downside (and it wont apply to all rooms)… we have ha room that had a low slanted ceiling (because of the roof). My husband is 6ft 3 and I am 5ft 8. I banged my head off the ceiling in the bedroom and bathroom more than once. A combination of design and user error is the only negative I can report on our stay. Will be back for future visits.

Tips:

The food and drink in the hotel is lovely. There are small rock paintings and glass pictures to buy in the hotel itself. You do need to book for dinner in advance if you are visiting as they are very busy. A great guide map was provided in our room which was helpful for planning our next visit.

The most dog friendly hotel we have ever used .Ian and Nick plus all the staff make you feel welcome and at home , the location is second to non with the terrace giving direct access to a beautiful white sandy beach . The food is extremely good value although the Argyll Hotel is the only place to eat for miles they do not take advantage of this and the prices haven’t really changed in the four years we have been visiting. Service is extremely quick and nothing seems to much trouble ,a quiet little corner of heaven with views to sit and drink in , maybe over a very reasonably priced bottle of wine.

Tips:

Visit The island or Gigha , the ferry is only 15 mins away for fresh seafood served on the beach at the Boat house and the most wonderful unspoilt beaches .

An absolute gem of a hotel. Lovely spacious room, recently modernised. Lovely friendly staff. Backing right onto the beach ,with glorious views from the restaurant of Islay, Ghia and Paps of Jura. Excellent food-both dinner and breakfast, with quick service throughout. I have travelled extensively all over the world, during the past 50 years, and without doubt this is one of the very best hotels in which I have stayed. I shall definitely be back again. Best wishes to Ian, Nick and all the team.

Tips:

There is probably plenty to do-beach walks etc., - near to the hotel. However, Campbelltown is an interesting place to visit, and much more vibrant than I thought it might be. Linda McCartney Memorial Garden is especially interesting. Lots of nice shops, e.g. Coorie Doon Gift shop on the main street. Southend and Makrahanish are lovely places to visit. We had a great weekend at the Argyll Hotel so dog friendly. They couldn’t have been anymore accommodating for us. My dog Sam had a great time meeting Nick & Ian’s Dalmatian’s Logan & Winter and running about the beautiful white sandy beach. The food was excellent, clean and friendly and to step out onto the terrace to a beautiful beach is why we choose to stay here. I would definitely recommend especially if you have a dog.

Tips:

The hotel for one is where to eat the food was great and there is so much to see and do especially if you are a Paul McCartney fan visit Saddell Bay where his video was filmed for the song Mull in Kintyre. The cottage is still there but hidden amongst the trees. Also the lighthouse but while we were here it was closed to public so you couldn’t get down to it and to just the coast the beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise waters like Westport beach just 10 mins along from hotel, Machrihanish, Southend, Dunaverty & the best place to go for a roll & sausage is The Larder, Campbeltown. When we visit again we are definitely going to take a boat trip over to Isle of Gigha and in low tide walk over to Isle of Davaar.

Ian and Nick are brilliant hosts. We were met with a warm welcome and had a beautiful room with a sea view. Great shower, fluffy towels and super comfy bed all made for a good nights sleep. Dinner was first class and served in the dining room overlooking the beach. Breakfast is a must if you stay here and worth paying the extra for. There is a beautiful terrace outside where you can relax and listen to the waves. All in all, a relaxing little gem of a place, thank you for a lovely stay Ian and Nick.

Tips:

Very popular with locals so book dinner in advance.

I was there for the night on business and the hotel surpassed expectations. Lovely, friendly welcoming reception when we arrived late - 10.30pm. Totally delicious breakfast. We'll certainly be back. A small thing - the music at breakfast was very Bass-y and loud. Would be nicer to have something more gentle first thing in the morning.

Ian, Nick and team plus dogs Logan and Winter made us feel very welcome. The room was a good size with a very comfy bed, loved that I could leave the window open all night listening to the sea. The food was tremendous with a really good selection of starters, mains and scrumptious desserts. We will be back and already recommended the place to our friends.

Beautiful couple of days at Argyll Hotel Bellochantuy . An amazing escape created by the lovely Ian and Nick on the Argyll peninsula. Blown away by kindness and hospitality ! Fantastic ambience, food, scenery and company. Beautiful rooms, cool and laid back feel and an amazing staff team and service too. Nothing too much trouble for their guests. I felt really looked after as was struggling with dietary issues - all went out their way to ensure I had great food too. Dogs very welcome which is such a great feeling, to know that your furry friends can enjoy a great break too. They are well catered for with beach towels and bowls. Beach on your doorstep is fabulous and the sunsets are just spectacular from the terrace after dinner. Do check it out if you want to experience the Scottish Atlantic coast at its best in any season in an absolute home from home. So glad we made the journey at last - an easy drive from Edinburgh with a stop on the way for lunch at one of the lovely west coast havens. We will be back. Booked our next wee break already!

Tips:

All you need is right there with great beaches and scenery all around. Campbeltown and Tarbert well worth visiting, with local distilleries and funky shops and cafes. Great walks for you and your dog. Don’t go anywhere else for dinner. Food is amazing !

This hotel is an absolute gem in a wee piece of paradise . The location is superb , the rear terrace overlooking the stunning beach is perfection. Nick is the perfect host and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is superb, our room was well decorated with a superb en suite which were both super clean. Our room was sea facing with a large door which opened fully for breathtaking views . We are not dog owners but thought having the owners dogs who are both beauties and perfectly behaved wandering around gave the hotel a real homely feel (they are not around at meal times which is also spot on) Do yourselves a favour folks if you are visiting Campbeltown or surrounding area give this place a look . You won’t be disappointed!!

Tips:

We are pretty well travelled around Scotland over the years but didn’t venture to this area until last year . It really is stunning in parts so we would say just visit and enjoy the scenery. It has also got to be said that the locals here are the friendliest you will ever meet.

What a delight this hotel is, from the location, to the food and the staff, and more importantly the beautiful Dalmatians Logan and Winter. We stayed here in 2019 and they’ve had a refurbishment, the rooms are lovely and modern and so comfortable. You really feel like home from home, such a cosy and welcoming stay. All the guests are friendly and typically return each year. We were able to park our motorbikes at the back of the hotel which is always a comfort for security albeit the area is not an issue. The view of Islay and Jura is to die for, and if you’re lucky you’ll get a stunning sunset. Nick and Ian are delightful hosts and nothing is an issue. Yet again an excellent visit. Appreciated your understanding of my double booking!

Having visited Kintyre over many years, the main thing is it remains relatively unspoilt. Walks on the various beaches, a visit to Campbeltown and other small locations. No better place to eat than the Argyll itself!

This has to be one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. The interior is amazing with lots of small touches. It was so dog friendly, with everything being thought of. The views and beach were just stunning. The food was top class whether it was breakfast or dinner. Nick and Ian were fantastic hosts. The hotel was spotless. We had such a lovely break and will be recommending to friends.

Tips:

The beach is amazing. You don’t need to go far as the food is amazing. Lovely walks in Campbeltown. The gin distillery at Torisdale is lovely with a great wee cafe. An amazing find of a hotel.

What a find. We will 100% be back. Stunning little hotel in a stunning location. A well stocked bar. An incredible restaurant. Breakfast was delicious and there’s 2 Dalmatian’s to play with. What more could you require. Well there is more! Our shower was like a magical portal to rainbows and moomin kingdom! I felt like I had just been to a spa.

Tips:

Take a walk up the beach. But don’t eat or drink elsewhere. Don’t count out the hotel for this. They provide everything you could hope for.

I try to get back as much a possible.

This is quite possibly the most dog-friendly hotel ever. I was travelling alone with my dog and received a very warm welcome from both of the managers. They provided a dog blanket, towel and informed me of safe places to walk the dog. The dog was also welcome to dine with me and everyone was very friendly. Both the waitress and bar woman referred to me by name and ensured I was comfortable. The hotel is in a stunning location with great access to the Isle of Gigha and Islay. 22nd November 2022:

Location was brilliant. The room was very modern, nicely decorated and comfortable with a nice powerful shower. The attention to detail for guests was spot on, even down to a treat for our dog each day! We don’t normally eat in the hotels we are staying in but head to restaurants however, the food was excellent, piping hot and the view from the conservatory whilst dining was fantastic so we ate in on all 3 nights so we could work through the menu a bit. The owners and staff were all very pleasant and the service was excellent. The bar is well stocked with many different gins and whiskies, some quite unusual ones too. We had a very relaxing stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again

Tips:

The cave painting on Davaar island is impressive but be aware, it is a scramble over boulders to get there. The beach at the front of the hotel is over a mile long and was deserted. Westport beach just along the road is excellent too. Campbeltown and Tarbert are worth visiting, a day trip to Gigha, Carradale Bay are recommended too. Take a trip to Southend where you are pretty close to Ireland and if there you have to go to the Muneroy tearoom, the list of cakes seemed endless which the waitress knew off heart and the slice of cake my wife had was massive but VERY light and delicious.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to the Kintyre area. The location is fabulous, just a few miles from Campbeltown. The views are breathtaking. I only wish I had been there for a leisure break, so that I could take a long walk on the beach. The hotel team are very friendly. I experienced a very warm welcome, which was lovely after a long day of travelling. Also, the hotel is dog friendly, a major plus in my book. I have already recommended to friends.

Once again i was warmly welcomed by Nick, Iain and Morag, who each in their own way and without being intrusive, made me feel like an honoured guest. There was really nothing which in any way fell short of perfect and although my stay this time was brief, i felt relaxed, refreshed and sustained when i left. The staff are particularly dog friendly and the entire hotel is a sea of tranquility despite the raging storm which may be brewing outside.

Tips:

The Aryll Hotel in Bellochantuy is perfectly located to enable visitors to explore the entire Kintyre Penisula on which there a wide and variable range of activities to explore. From walking the kintyre Way, to touring the beautiful coastline, enjoying spectacular views and scenery and enjoying the many local visitor centres such as distilleries, golf courses and Heritage Centre. Make time to enjoy the hotel as well for nothing needs to be rushed. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable as are the lounges and open welcoming restaurant with the most magnificent views towards the waves on the shore.

Lovely hotel in a great location right by the beach. Really friendly owners that make you feel welcome. The dining room conservatory has wonderful sea views and the food very good. Beakfasts were wonderful. Rooms clean and comfortable, recently refurbished to a high standard. Lovely bar and plenty of areas to sit and relax. Proximity to the beach is a real plus!

Tips:

We love how you can see so much of the sea on the Kintyre peninsula with the road running along side of it much of the way. You have views west to open sea, the islands and Ireland and the views east to Arran and the mainland. Southend has lovely beaches to walk along. It's worth the hike down to the lighthouse on the Mull of Kintyre, or at least half way to get the views. If you love the north west coast of Scotland, you'll love Kintyre just as much. It feels like being on a big island.

And of course the view from the dining room of the beach and the sea and the islands was stunning. You must find guests linger too long over breakfast just staring out to sea! For the dog (and us) it was a joy stepping out onto the beach for walks. Thank you so much, and good luck with your next stage of renovations

Second visit here while visiting my home town of Campbeltown. Once again another wonderful stay. Can't fault anything at all. The friendliness, cleanliness, food all wonderful and the internal of the actual hotel itself looks and feels so welcoming. Well done to the owners. They are doing an excellent job.

Exceptionally warm welcome and help offered throughout my stay. My Room was very well prepared and I was fortunate to find such a dog friendly accommodation which proved perfect.

Tips:

Take time to tour the area, and see many fine coastal views. The Nearby Garden Cafe Restaurant at Glenbarr village nearby is also a fine place for light snacks, coffee or lunch with some beautiful crafts and plants for sale. The Argyll Hotel is the perfect centre location from which to explore the entire Kintyre Penisula, including Machrihanish, Southend and Carradale before enjoying a fine choice of drinks in the bar or relaxing lounge. Your dog will simply love the beach walks.

Just returned home yesterday after 3 amazing nights at the Argyll Hotel Bellochantuy. It was the best short break I have ever had and can't wait to go back. The hotel has a lovely relaxed atmosphere in both the bar and lounge and the conservatory dining room is absolutely beautiful. We had a sea facing room which I would definitely recommend . You could open the first floor door which had a glass partition right outside but you are right on the beach and the sound of the waves from your bedroom is lovely. I don't know where to start about the food . We ate in the restaurant on 2 nights out the 3 and the meals were first class as was the breakfast each morning . The other residents we spoke to were also raving about the food. Please give this hotel a try I promise you won't be disappointed, the pictures don't do it justice you have to go and see it, I was blown away with the hotel and its location

Tips:

So many beautiful beaches if you want to take a drive and we also took a day trip to the Isle of Gigha which I would recommend. Its only a 20 minute ferry trip from Tayinloan which is 9 miles from the hotel and you don't need the car as the island is so small

From arrival to leaving we were always met with a pleasant approach by Nick and the team of staff. The breakfasts were spot on with an array of choice to pick from. The evening meals catered for all, again spot on. If we are back up your way again we will stay with you again.

Tips:

A tearoom not to be missed is MUNEROY tearoom at Southend, 20 -25 mins drive from the hotel but worth it, not only for the tearoom but there are also a few sites to see around that area. Campbeltown is only 10 miles down the road from the hotel to have a leisurely walk around and visit the Linda Mcartney memorial garden including a statue of her. Other places of interest are Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse, Skipness tearoom, Saddell carved stones, Killberry carved stones, Glen Barr tearoom and relax with a drink or few in the hotel beer garden or a walk along the beach. There are also numerous other things to do and see.

Our second stay at this lovely hotel. Brilliant value, great food and loads of it. Fabulous staff and right on the beach.

Tips:

Just 8 bedrooms so it does feel that you are treated as a friend staying rather than an anonymous guest at a regular hotel. Usually I refuse to leave reviews but was so impressed with the Argyll, here you are! I liked my room, the food and friendliness / helpfulness of the staff. This was supposed to be a treat for me - On a cycle tour of Arran and Kintyre and I stayed in hostels the rest of the time. It truly was a treat. Staff let me stay warm and dry in the lounge with excellent coffee until rain showers passed and I set off for Campbeltown

Tips:

Springbank distillery are friendly and will let you taste their excellent whisky for free if you ask nicely. Cambeltown is much more pleasant than many Scottish port towns. Davaar island is interesting - can walk if you get the tide right. Machrahinish is a nice place to while away an hour or 2. Continue beyond the end of the road to the bird observatory - Quirky, but a great viewpoint

We had a fantastic stay at the hotel. We loved the seashore location. We had breakfast and dinner both days. Great menu and tasty food. We definitely plan a return trip and the only thing that would improve it would be the weather which is completely outwith the Argyll hotel teams remit!!!

I just love this place. The perfect place to de-stress. Walk through a gate straight onto the beach. Sea view from the restaurant so you can watch the waves whilst you eat. My dogs were made so welcome, nothing is any trouble to Nick & Ian. This is my 2nd visit to the hotel and I would have no hesitation in coming back again. Thank you x

Wonderful stay in a beautiful location right on a sandy beach with views across to Islay. Owner and staff couldn't have been more helpful and the service and food was excellent. The only issue for us was the lack of storage and hanging space for a stay of more than a few nights. But everything else was first class and definitely made up for this small inconvenience.

Tips:

Spectacular coastline and a visit to the beautiful island of Gigha is well worth it.

Our stay with you was excellent, we can't think of anything that could have made it any better! The room was clean, bright and up to date, the en-suite was spacious, bright and clean. The breakfast was amazing and the 3 course dinner we had with you on the second night was delicious, very high quality food. The restaurant area itself is also very modern, clean and the view is amazing! The team were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was relaxed. We will definitely be staying with you again in the future :)

Tips:

The food at the restaurant in the hotel is excellent so if the weather is not great or you don't want to travel at night this is a great option. The beach in low tide has a shallow area further up from the hotel which is good for rock pool exploring for crabs and small fish! Also lots of sea birds we have not seen before so remember your binoculars! There is a lovely tearoom called Drumfearne tearoom in Carradale around 25 miles away which you pass through the nearest larger town Campbeltown for, which has a small Tesco for anything you might need.

An exceptionally pleasant stay .Unintrusive staff mixed with huge friendliness and style. Individualistic touches and artistic hints of cosmopolitan eclectic decor were really nice to experience (for example, as one approaches the large restauraunt) The owners. Ian and Nick at the helm, very hands on, considerate and professional. The well thought out food menus were a delight not just to eat but to savour the visual culinary artistry. "The Team" looked after us well. Very clean all round with Covid safety precautions all there too. Very dog friendly. As yet there seem not to be any Fire instructions in the rooms to indicate what to do. Luckily there is only an upstairs to have to negotiate. A labour of love ongoing structurally- but not intrusive. All round, highly recommended.

Tips:

Beautiful beaches for walkers.

23rd June 2022:

This hotel is a total gem. Located directly on the beach, the views across to Gigha, Islay and Jura are stunning. The room facilities are really thoughtfully provided - the temperature, bathroom fittings, water pressure, smart tv, comfy bed, proper hairdryer, tea selection, and the views from the window all make for a really relaxing stay. The bar and restaurant are great with seating outside and in the conservatory with more of those beautiful views to enjoy while you eat. Ian's food is really delicious and the breakfast is worth writing home about. Nick, Ian and the team are incredibly friendly and helpful. They'll make you feel really welcome and relaxed from when you first arrive and are always around to help you enjoy your holiday, offering great local knowledge and tips.

Tips:

During our stay we enjoyed a few activities: A trip to Gigha - a beautiful island easily reached by ferry from nearby Tayinloan. Lunch at The BoatHouse and a walk to Achamore Gardens (and beyond) is a lovely way to spend the day. A visit to Mull of Kintyre and Southend - we drove to the car park for the Mull of Kyntyre Lighthouse and then walked down. After the steep walk back up we drove to nearby Southend and bought tea and (fantastic) cake from Muneroy Tearoom and enjoyed a walk along the beach path, with views of the Ailsa Craig. Kayaking at West Loch Tarbert - we prebooked a morning kayaking session with Dave at Kayak Majik. Being out on the water was a great experience and Dave is an experienced and diligent tutor, with lots of expert local knowledge. A visit to Skipness - We parked at the Seafood Cabin and enjoyed a delicious lunch, followed by an explore of the castle. The beach looks over the short distance to Arran and a stroll from the castle brings you to the old chapel where you can find medieval grave stones. During our three night stay, we enjoyed a meal at the hotel for two nights. For the other night we ate a picnic on the beach, watching the sunset from the sand.
