We loved the really warm welcome from Ian and Nick. They had been really understanding when we were unable to travel the weekend before due to the weather and had happily rebooked us for this weekend. Everything was perfect and very relaxing even with our Guide dog pup who is very much a work in progress. Ian’s breakfasts are just superb and last you all day. A wonderful cosy, comfortable winter weekend in the Kintyre weather bubble that was better than anywhere else in Scotland.
Tips:Kintyre has fabulous beaches and lots of them which are just outstanding for winter walks - I don’t even have to say bracing as there is a very mild microclimate and we enjoyed much better weather than at home in the Central Belt.

We received a very warm welcome from Ian, Nick, and Olivia, and by the end of our two night stay we felt like family! Breakfast and dinner were of the highest standard and nothing was a problem.
Tips:Ours was a business trip so we didn’t have time to be tourists. Storm Bert was raging but sheltering in the hotel and being well looked after didn’t make us feel as though we were missing out.

Location ideal for anyone with a dog, as the beach is just behind the hotel.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay. We have been there 5 or 6 times now and always find the hosts and staff welcoming, nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Being dog owners themselves, your dogs are made very welcome too and allowed in all areas of the hotel. There is a lovely dining room looking onto the beach, a comfy sitting area and a bar so no need to go anywhere if you don't want to.
Tips:It's a lovely quiet spot with plenty of beautiful walks and beaches. It is also close to the ferry ports for Islay, Gigha and Arran.

Wonderful team who couldn't do enough! It's the small details, such as showing you to your room after check-in, or calling you by your first name throughout your stay (even though this was my first visit), that make the difference. Lovely and quirky decor, extremely clean, warm and comfortable room. And great food too! Thank you very much - will definitely visit again.
Tips:No need to look elsewhere for food & drink - dinner and breakfast were both excellent, and being able to sit in the conservatory and look at the Hebridean Islands was an extra treat. They also have a gin menu to rival a big city establishment.

This is a world-class hotel staffed by great people who work hard to provide a great hotel. It is a fantastic location on the Kintyre Peninsula down by Campbelltown. Fantastic food and a nice room all for a reasonable price. This is a fantastic "outpost" in a fairly remote place in Scotland and I can't say enough positive things about it. Don't miss it if you are in the neighbor hood. The building is not new and that is a plus.

We absolutely loved our stay. Ian and Nick and the other staff were very welcoming. It was lovely to be able to take our dog everywhere. We had brought a dog towel, but towels, blankets and treats were provided for dogs. The food was delicious. I'm a Coeliac and I felt confident from when I booked that they understood that, and the menu was very clear about what I could have. We hope to stay again.
Tips:Lots of lovely beach walks nearby. At Bellochantuy, but also Westport beach not far away. We did a loop of the peninsula and had coffee and cake at Torrisdale Castle estate and a lovely walk there too.

We had a brilliant stay. I wish it had been for longer. Nothing was too much trouble. Both the owners and their staff, in particular the lady our first night??? could not have been more welcoming and helpfu; even when I thought I had lost my key. Food excellent, especially breakfast. Last but not least Archie loved his stay, dogs are made so welcome and being a cornish boy he couldn't have been happier with that wonderful beach. So a big thank you to you all!
Tips:We were only their a couple of nights but I would recommend the South End, a very interesting, St Columba chapel, well and ?footprints, ?Dunvartie and its beach, interesting ruined buildings nearby and their history and then the Mull itself, the lighthouse and the poignant memorial

Wonderfully friendly beach front hotel. Very clean and comfortable rooms. The owners and their staff are very kind and always ready to help with any enquiries. Food is very good and the breakfast is exceptional. There is a huge range of whiskies and runs as well as the usual drinks. This is the hotel that really delivers to dogs and their owners. Access all areas so the dogs have a great stay too. Able to access the beach safely well away from busy roads and the beach is very safe.
Tips:Lots of wonderful beaches. Plenty of golf courses on the Kintyre peninsula including the famous Machrihanish club. Great place for birdwatching and wildlife. Spot red squirrels and red deer. Try both Muneroy tea rooms in Southend and the Blackbird in Carradale for great cakes. Skipness for seafood. The Argyll Hotel exceeded our expectations in many ways, even with the good reviews that we had seen about it. The hotel was artistically decorated with a warm, clean and friendly atmosphere. The owners and staff were efficient and helpful and provided good food and service at both dinner and breakfast. Our room was of a good size with a comfortable bed. sofa and a recently refurbished bathroom. Not having dogs ourselves we were a little worried about staying in a "dog friendly" hotel, would there be much barking in the night etc. To our amazement all the dogs were well behaved and no noise in the night. We stayed one night on our outward journey to Islay and gladly returned for a night on our homeward journey and would highly recommend the hotel to anyone travelling in the Kintyre area

Lovely comfortable seating areas, one to the side of the bar and one in front of the conservatory restaurant. Excellent friendly service at all times.
Tips:Lovely sandy beach easily accessible from the hotel terrace. Gate is a little tricky to bolt you will need both hands, one to lift gate up so that bolt will slot in. Parking in front of hotel or a few meters further along. Westport Beach is a short drive between the hotel and Campbeltown and is well worth a visit. Easy enough to find off the main road & nicely located.
Tips:The kintyre 66 which circumnavigates the peninsula is a nice day out. Views were brilliant! The ferry to Gigha, which is approximately ten miles north of the hotel & well signposted from the main road is worth a visit, ferry leaves on the hour every hour, pub on the island to get lunch or drinks plus some nice walks or drives. What a lovely stay we had at the Argyll Hotel. Nick and Ian were most welcoming and and were the perfect hosts. The hotel has been renovated to a high standard and what a view you get over to Gigha and Islay. The staff at dinner and breakfast were first class. Meals were excellent and very well presented and tasty. Would highly recommend.

Another fab weekend at the Argyll Hotel.... Welcomed by friendly staff, as usual, we were quickly settled in to our fav room which was one of the rooms with the view over the beach. Dinner menu has a good selection of options for all tastes and portions are plentiful! Breakfast also has a wide range of options and is enjoyed in the restaurant overlooking the beach. As regular visitors to the hotel, our ratings are based on our expectations vs previous experiences. We choose to come back time and again because of the location, the plentiful food, the staff and the dog friendly policy..... and of course there is the beautiful beach :-)
Tips:As above - we choose the hotel for its location on the beach at Bellochantuy however Campbeltown is only a short drive away, or the bus stops directly outside the hotel. We enjoy exploring the towns, villages and beaches around the region whatever the season.

A Perfect Beach Getaway with a Pup-Friendly Touch! We had the pleasure of staying at the Argyll Hotel, and I can confidently say it was an outstanding experience! Nestled right on the beach, the hotel offered breathtaking views that made every moment feel like a postcard. Waking up to the sound of waves and enjoying my morning coffee while gazing out at the ocean was simply magical. What truly set this hotel apart was their incredible hospitality towards our furry friend. From the moment we arrived, Ian & Nick went above and beyond to make our dog feel welcome. The hotel’s location was perfect for beach walks, and there were plenty of nearby trails and parks for our dog to explore. After a day of sun and sand, we returned to our comfortable room, which was impeccably clean and well-appointed, providing the perfect retreat for both humans and pets alike. I highly recommend the Argyll Hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing beach getaway with their furry companion. The combination of stunning views, exceptional service, and a warm welcome for pets makes it a standout choice. We can't wait to return!

What a fantastic place, we loved it and intend to go back. The owners are friendly and helpful, other staff members are also attentive and efficient. the room we booked had a sea view which was stunning and beautiful. Although you couldn't get outside, the door with the sea view could be opened fully or tilted, allowing the full sound of the sea into the room. Stunning. We ate in the resteraunt, in the conservatory and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. We loved this hotel, and if we had known about it sooner we would have booked for a longer stay.
Tips:The hotel is situated not far from the kennacraig ferry, follow the A83 south towards Campbeltown and it is on your left next to Bellochantuy Beach holiday park. Within the hotel there is a seperate bar, and seating area. There is a seperate area in the conservatory for pre/post dinner drinks. Outside there is a seating area, with a gate onto the beach. Heaven for a wee walk. The resteraunt welcomes dogs.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Argyll Hotel. It’s in a great location down by the beach with views of Islay, Jura and The Isle of Gigha. The food we had at the hotel was amazing. We really enjoyed our breakfast and evening meals, the only problem was we only stayed 4 nights and didn’t get a chance to try everything on the menu !
Tips:A trip over to the Isle of Gigha is a must, it is so peaceful and beautiful around the gardens at Achamore House. If you like whisky 🥃 a trip to Glen Scotia and Springbank distilleries is a must although it was impossible to get a bottle of Springbank 15 yr old as there was none in stock and there was at least 30 outside at 10am next morning! Also if you are feeling adventurous a drive out to the Mull of Kintyre which is quite hair raising in itself before you walk down a very steep slope and then approximately 80 metres up to your right to see the memorial cairn dedicated to the chinook helicopter crash in 1994 when 29 people lost their lives. It’s very windy down there and the walk back up to the car park is not for the faint hearted.

Always highest standards - very laid back but really effiicent and enjoyable. Spotless modern interiors. The Breakfasts particularly imaginative , well presented and ample. Breakfast staff delightful. Ian a particularly good cook with lots of natural creativity. Evening service too pretty faultless when Nick on duty. Not a great variety on menu for Vegetarians though. If you don't eat meat or shellfish it is very limited. The the only sticking point for us.( No omlettes available for example). The lovely large and light restauraunt with great sea views is also a well-behaved doggie friendly area - hospitable and quirky. This not a disturbing factor to those of us staying with no doggies who love canines too. Bedrooms spotless with modern facilities . A little jewel in a stunning setting.
Tips:Fabulous hosts Ian and Nick bring a considerate and individual vibe with highest standards at The Argyll Hotel, with two sweet- natured Dalmations! It has a beautiiful beach just outside with a big sky. Westport beach ( walking/surfing) only 5 miles away. Campbletown a little further. A great handmade chocolate shop in the main street along with other historical interests and harbour. Good cafes etc. Lovely preserved original Art Deco small cinema centrally in the town. Or leave Campbletown, (narrow lanes and dips! ) to the Southend for those who love exploring by car.

What a gem of a place this hotel is. The setting on the beach is perfect. The bedrooms are very clean and well presented. Perfect for bringing your dog/s on a fun holiday. Dogs are allowed in all areas including the conservatory where meals are taken and all are well behaved. The food is exceptional a very hearty breakfast and the evening menu is varied and very generous. Drinks are not overpriced for a hotel. The staff cannot do enough for you and are always happy to help and share their knowledge of the area
Tips:The Kintyre peninsula is such a lovely place to visit. I cannot comment on restaurants because I always eat at the hotel but there is a great selection of tea rooms for lunch or afternoon tea. The beaches are so clean as is the sea, very little litter on the beaches. There is a beach around every bend in the road, some offer water sports. Campbeltown is small but very pleasant for a walk round. Two supermarkets, Tesco and co-op for any bits and pieces needed. A visit to Tarbert is a must as is a day trip to Gigha. You can also have a day in Arran by using the ferry on the peninsula.

It might be a little out if the way but if wanting to stay in Campbeltown, go this bit further and you won't be disappointed. Good parking. Clean modern rooms and 2 beautiful dogs. If bringing your dog they get their own sheet in the information book.

Well organised and run small hotel with a personal touch. Been many times and love to return. Very accepting of dogs and ensure there is always bedding for them and a treat! Well done to this small team.
Tips:Many places to explore, its such a beautiful area. Westport beach (2miles approx towards Campbelltown) is a must. Many islands close by , you will be spoilt for choice. Some people stay a week or so at this hotel and I can see why.

Lovely stay again, the weather was beautiful and sitting on the patio practically on the beach with a cold beer was perfect. As always Nick, Ian and the team were warm and welcoming and Milo (my dog) enjoyed his welcome treat. We will be back soon !
Tips:Machrihanish is only a short drive away and you are almost guaranteed to see some seals. Further round Campbeltown loch is Southend which is also lovely.

Tips:We stayed here as part of our tour of Kintyre 66. Beautiful scenery and different points of interest to stop on the way (eg Skipness Castle, Saddell Bay and Abbey). Would recommend the Blackbird Cafe at Carradale for lunch and wee walk at the harbour after.

Could not have asked for a better place to stay on our trip to the Mull of Kintyre. A friend had recommended this hotel to us and he was so right. The staff were friendly and helpful. The owners were amazing - they have designed the hotel so tastefully and we so enjoyed sitting outside soaking in the view. Our meals were delicious but best of all was how dog friendly everyone was. Our dog was so happy!

This was a return visit for us as we enjoyed our first visit so much. We love the relaxed friendly feel of this hotel, and the warm welcome is extended to your canine companions. On arrival as well as all your needs being met in the spacious rooms you are provided with an extra towel and blanket for your dog and a little treat for them. We really enjoyed the three course dinner with lots of choices followed by a drink in the bar with Luna our spaniel who was really excited to see the hosts dalmatians Winter & Logan. After a great night’s sleep a lovely full Scottish breakfast set us up perfectly for the day. Thanks again for another really enjoyable stay in your truly dog friendly hotel.
Tips:The hotel beach is lovely for an evening walk or first thing in the morning. For a longer walk we headed down to Westport Beach a short drive down the coast. In our travels we stopped at Big Jessie’s Tea Room at Gigha Ferry Port for lunch another local dog friendly stop. On our way home this time we took a slight detour to visit the Crinan Canal where we stopped for a coffee and a slice of cake at Polly’s Coffee Stop a great local business running out of a converted horse box parked at one of the locks.

This time we visited the shop and garden centre at Glenbarr, walked the sands at Westport, Macrihanish and A’Cleitch beaches, visited Skipness Castle, shopped in Tarbert and Campbeltown, visited Carradale and Beinn an Tuirc Distillery and so much more. On arrival, I met by Nick a warm reception, his knowledge of whisky and gin was very good, and all described on the drinks list, I would recommend the Kintyre gin. Later, we met Pam, a lovely lady, a true asset to the hotel. One of the dogs' tummy was not as well as we would like. Kindly, Pam asked the chef if he would cook our eggs for the dogs, no, not a problem at all. Met Ian with their dogs on the beach. Our dogs were provided with towels, blankets, and a chew each. Lovely touch. Fabulous hotel decor is lovely. We ate our evening meal in the restaurant the mussels was an excellent choice! Breakfast cooked by Ian, who cooked my eggs to perfection along with a muffin and smoked salmon. Tim had the full Scottish breakfast. Both Excellent!!!
Tips:Although only on Kintyre for one night and the weather was not as its best to see the beauty, we managed to get to see Anthony Gomelys man on the edge of the sea, Grip. You have to walk from the estate drive at Saddle 0.4 mile to the beach where you will see him stood looking out to Arran, well woth a visit if you like art. Glen bar is a little village off the main road, there is a garden centre with a lovely shop, this was recommended to us for lunch but after our breakfast no lunch was necessary.

This was a superb find! The hotel is situated right on the beach at Bellochantuy bay and not too far from Campbeltown. We travelled with our dog and our room was on the ground floor at the front of the hotel. The room itself was of a good size with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was a superbly appointed wet-room with good toiletries. We ate at the hotel on the evening and couldn't have asked for a better meal. The meals are served in the conservatory overlooking the beach and are of a very high standard. The staff are friendly and very professional. We couldn't have asked for more. Our only regret is not booking a second night!
Tips:Book a table if you wish to eat here. We went slightly out of season and the restaurant was busy with people turned away.

Very smooth and generous checking in time. Very happily greeted by Logan and Winter (the doggie components of the family)-very waggy and well -behaved but not jumping up. Beds very comfortable and lovely cool room as it was heatwave time, and extremely clean. Stayed for Dinner which was tasty and creatively put together by Olaf. Lovely breakfast with exceptional and friendly staff. Wonderful .
Tips:Amazing beach outside. Also very close to Westport Beach-incredibly long and sandy with good sized car-park. (Have not been there in Summer though) Bird watching and such a beaitiful coast to travel along with the ferry turnoffs to Gigha and Jura not so far along for a day trip out.

The staff were lovely, room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only downside (and it wont apply to all rooms)… we have ha room that had a low slanted ceiling (because of the roof). My husband is 6ft 3 and I am 5ft 8. I banged my head off the ceiling in the bedroom and bathroom more than once. A combination of design and user error is the only negative I can report on our stay. Will be back for future visits.
Tips:The food and drink in the hotel is lovely. There are small rock paintings and glass pictures to buy in the hotel itself. You do need to book for dinner in advance if you are visiting as they are very busy. A great guide map was provided in our room which was helpful for planning our next visit.

The most dog friendly hotel we have ever used .Ian and Nick plus all the staff make you feel welcome and at home , the location is second to non with the terrace giving direct access to a beautiful white sandy beach . The food is extremely good value although the Argyll Hotel is the only place to eat for miles they do not take advantage of this and the prices haven’t really changed in the four years we have been visiting. Service is extremely quick and nothing seems to much trouble ,a quiet little corner of heaven with views to sit and drink in , maybe over a very reasonably priced bottle of wine.
Tips:Visit The island or Gigha , the ferry is only 15 mins away for fresh seafood served on the beach at the Boat house and the most wonderful unspoilt beaches .

An absolute gem of a hotel. Lovely spacious room, recently modernised. Lovely friendly staff. Backing right onto the beach ,with glorious views from the restaurant of Islay, Ghia and Paps of Jura. Excellent food-both dinner and breakfast, with quick service throughout. I have travelled extensively all over the world, during the past 50 years, and without doubt this is one of the very best hotels in which I have stayed. I shall definitely be back again. Best wishes to Ian, Nick and all the team.
Tips:There is probably plenty to do-beach walks etc., - near to the hotel. However, Campbelltown is an interesting place to visit, and much more vibrant than I thought it might be. Linda McCartney Memorial Garden is especially interesting. Lots of nice shops, e.g. Coorie Doon Gift shop on the main street. Southend and Makrahanish are lovely places to visit. We had a great weekend at the Argyll Hotel so dog friendly. They couldn’t have been anymore accommodating for us. My dog Sam had a great time meeting Nick & Ian’s Dalmatian’s Logan & Winter and running about the beautiful white sandy beach. The food was excellent, clean and friendly and to step out onto the terrace to a beautiful beach is why we choose to stay here. I would definitely recommend especially if you have a dog.
Tips:The hotel for one is where to eat the food was great and there is so much to see and do especially if you are a Paul McCartney fan visit Saddell Bay where his video was filmed for the song Mull in Kintyre. The cottage is still there but hidden amongst the trees. Also the lighthouse but while we were here it was closed to public so you couldn’t get down to it and to just the coast the beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise waters like Westport beach just 10 mins along from hotel, Machrihanish, Southend, Dunaverty & the best place to go for a roll & sausage is The Larder, Campbeltown. When we visit again we are definitely going to take a boat trip over to Isle of Gigha and in low tide walk over to Isle of Davaar.
