We received a warm welcome, the room was clean, spacious and comfortable and the location was lovely. Our dinner and breakfast were both excellent and our dog was made very welcome in the bar area. Everyone who served us was warm, friendly and helpful.

22nd October 2024:
Just one incident spoiled the service score. We were ordering at the bar before going into the restaurant. I was in the middle of paying and there was some issue with the card scanner and I was working through it with the barmaid. Someone else (presumably a regular/local) interjected to get their bar bill and the bar maid shot off to deal with them in the mid-sentence with me. That annoyed me a bit - felt a bit like a second class citizen or someone who was being patronised for their custom. To this day, I am unclear on whether I paid for my drinks or not.

From the moment we walked in the door we felt welcome. The entire property has been gorgeously and thoughtfully designed. Rooms are spacious and clean and comfortable. Ours was the Attenborough Room. I will never forget the giant comfy bed, the wonderful view, or the graciousness of our hosts. Location is perfection, and the food is OUTSTANDING...one of the best meals and favorite stays we had in Scotland. Thank you Clare and Joe for your incredible hospitality!
Tips:Definitely visit Puck's Glen while in the area. It's magical. (Remember to bring a little gift to leave for the fairies). Have dinner at the Colintraive and hang out at the pub there. It's wonderful!

12th October 2024:
Can’t be easy these days running a small independent hospitality business with ever increasing costs, however the Colintraive deserves to succeed and prosper. Wonderful to see an old traditional hotel revamped with a stripped back retro vibe. Staff were lovely; professional, attentive and welcoming. Food was top notch using local ingredients and offering a variety of dishes. Have to give special mention to the bar stocking local Fyne Ale both on cask and keg. Also coffee by Argyll Roasters was excellent. Room facing the Kyles of Bute gives a cracking view and was spacious, clean and warm.
Tips:Argyll (and Bute) offer a huge variety of coastal scenery, history and attractions. Can imagine the area must be busy during the summer season but it is so atmospheric and quieter during the ‘shoulder’ months. Even some ‘liquid sunshine’ or ‘Scotch mist’ adds to the allure! Going ‘off the beaten track’ isn’t hard to do and makes this area such a unique place.

Love our stays at your hotel and will return time and and time again, one of our favourite places if not the favourite! However one comment, I would like the room serviced during our stay ie bed made, towels changed as required etc. On the last two occasions when we stayed for 2 nights, the room was not serviced

What lovely staff...every one helpful, courteous & very friendly. We ate in the hotel both evenings & the food was delicious & freshly prepared. Our room was very nice & very clean - comfy beds. The decor is wee a bit tired but imagine a freshen up happens out of season...this didn't detract from the overall ambiance in the least, which was welcoming & peaceful, with happy vibes from staff & customers alike... One last comment would be that the door to the ladies toilet next to bar could do with opening out the way as not a lot of room to maneuver in the compact space provided...but again, not a major issue (maybe I just need to lose weight :)) All in all we would thoroughly recommend The Colintraive Hotel, & return without hesitation... Best wishes Carole & Marie
Tips:Great base for Rothesay/ Tighnabruaich/ Inverary etc. or just to walk along the shore & surrounding hills...

Absolutely superb as always. I’ve stayed with you several times now and I’m never disappointed by the experience at the Colintraive hotel. One very minor niggle though, I felt that the starters for the evening meal were rather limited in terms of choice and rather over priced for what they were. That said, I absolutely don’t mind paying for the superb quality of food on offer and the steak was of the usual exceptional standard I have come to expect of the Colintraive. Keep doing what you’re doing as you are miles better than anywhere else in the area!

The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and well looked after. We were given suggestions for food and wine choices when we had dinner . The bed was so comfortable and the room itself spacious . We visited for lunch three years ago and promised ourselves we would come back and stay one day.
Tips:This was our third visit to Bute so we knew we wanted to go to Ettrick Bay. On previous visits we enjoyed Scalpsie beach and the community forest - which is just by the ferry across from the hotel. Bute Yard has grown since our last visit - we were really impressed!

We had cycled from Glasgow and arrived just after 2.00 on Saturday to be told kitchen was closed. We would have thought it would not have been unreasonable if we could even have been offered some bread and cheese as frankly we were pretty hungry, so to be honest that was a bit disappointing. I would also say post guests have gone to bed there was quite a lot of noise from staff chatting after a hard shift which I understand but the noise does carry upstairs so maybe they could convene somewhere else? And lastly I did not ask for a receipt but was not offered the chance to review the bill which would normally happen so appreciate if you could now e-mail me the receipt please to alan.hendry@mottmac.com But despite these comments it was a good stay, food was excellent as was the wine and Fyne Ales, so we will be back I would have thought.

We stayed for 3 nights. Our room (no.2) had wonderful views over the narrow crossing to Bute. All staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and had a walk in shower. There was a large choice for breakfast which was preordered the evening before. The evening a la carte menu changed each day to some extent but choice was rather limited over 3 days. Overall highly recommended for a short break in a stunning part of Scotland.
Tips:The ferry from Colintraive to Bute requires no booking and is very frequent. There are many beautiful views in this region of Argyll Many photographs will be taken.

30th June 2024:
You have a very friendly approach to customers. The price is quite high and equates to a 3 or 4 star hotel but you are in a location where there are no other hotels so you offer a unique service. Your food quality is very good but on the first night service was very slow and your kitchen appeared to be challenged with non-residential customers. It was better on the second night. Breakfasts were excellent. Room 3 offered an excellent view but was a bit cramped and maybe we should have traded view for space when booking.
Tips:Be prepared to travel particularly if the weather is not good (as it was for us). But the good news is that the ferry transfer to Bute is an easy one and Mount Stuart is well worth a visit. Equally the road up to the top of Cowal is a great road with little traffic. So Inveraray and its castle are within reach and worth the journey. Finally, remember to hand in your room key when you leave!!

We had the loveliest stay at the Colintraive. This inn is in a very remote location, if you are looking for a quiet place with picturesque scenery and mostly locals, this is your place. The food was excellent. Loveliest seafood options, prepared beautifully. Had nice conversations with other guests and the staff was so welcoming.
Tips:Take the quick ferry a block away that leaves on the half hour to explore the other side. You can go as a foot passenger or with your car. If it's raining take your car or it will be a long wet hike to the castle!

A great find , was looking for a quality hotel in the area and was not impressed by the prices available ! I was delighted to find a room at the Colintraive as it has been highly recommended by a number of friends , they were not wrong ! Lovely comfortable room , well appointed , bright decor , really comfy bed ! Staff were welcoming and very friendly . Evening meal was excellent and dining room homely . Menu was significant with good selection of wines . Only slight issue was failure to provide fruit celery with otherwise excellent cheeseboard ! Breakfast was equally good , All in all Colintraive was exceptional and I would strongly recommend

Tips:We cycled from Dunoon to Colintraive with a second day of cycling on Bute where the roads were lovely and quiet (check date and location of Argyll car rally if cycling in June, and if Cowal way is open if planning to go off road!). Also enjoyed continuing on the coast road past Colintraive.

We had a lovely stay at the hotel. We loved the view from our room (spotted some porpoises and an otter just from looking out the window!) and the service from the staff and quality of the food was fantastic. The only very slight negative was the water pressure from the shower was very low and made it difficult to wash my long hair, but I know sometimes there is nothing the hotel can do about this depending on location.

A most enjoyable stay for my partners birthday. Our room was lovely and the bed so very comfortable. Only comments would be to replace the window as the condensation spoils the glorious views and the en-suite door doesn’t close properly. The food in the evening was superb, very much fine dining standard, but the breakfast in the morning a real let down. All overcooked, unfortunately, which left a negative impression on departure. Wasn’t so keen on the way you had choose individual items in advance.
Tips:A fabulous hotel, in a spectacular location, albeit all the main activities are to be found on Bute, which involves a short ferry crossing. There's a great atmosphere and a nice garden for fine weather. Our room was excellent, albeit required attention to a couple of maintenance issues, particularly the window, which neede replacing as spoilt the stunning views into the hills. The evening food was superb, but let down by an overcooked breakfast.

Beautiful setting and perfect peace. The staff are excellent and made us very welcome. Our whippet enjoyed the biscuits on the bar !. The locally sourced food was delicious - fantastic fish dishes cooked in a variety of ways. Breakfast was also very good. Our bed was extremely large and comfortable. Our only criticism was the size of the wash basin in the bathroom. Impossible to wash or shave effectively in a sink the size of a soup plate !. A minor complaint but there is room for a bigger one.

We had a lovely stay at Colintraive Hotel. Because we are familiar with the location we appreciate the tremendous effort that has been put into upgrading the facilities. The menu is imaginative and well balanced. If we had one constructive (rather than negative) comment to make it would be to stop the practise of asking guests to fill in their "breakfast sheet" in advance. It is appreciated that in a small hotel it is important to avoid waste but breakfast food rarely takes any great time to cook and pre-ordering is a negative. We really appreciated the little "touches" around the hotel and we would have given the staff a six if you had made that possible!

The comfiest hotel bed I’ve ever stayed in! Wonderful staff who made me feel so welcome and catered for my every need and my dog’s. Food was fantastic. A real gem of a place. I didn’t want to leave.
Tips:I took a spin on my bike to the end of the road along the peninsula( return trip less than a hour) . Beautiful views across to Bute and bird watching along the shores.

We had a lovely stay and loved how dog friendly you are. Food was great for both dinner and breakfast. We stayed in room no 1, and our only comment is that the bathroom door needs a bit shaved off the top - it doesn't close easily and it would be good I think for future guests if you an fi this. Many thanks, we hope to stay again in future :)

Lovely wee Scottish Hotel on the Kyles of Bute. Beautiful and comfortable room overlooking the harbour. We were upgraded at no cost, as the room was available. Well appointed ensuite with large walk-in shower which unfortunately had a fairly unpredictable electric shower unit. A very nice dining room with a pleasantly casual mix of tables and chairs . The dinner was delicious, with first class service too. A hearty Scottish breakfast1" featuring haggis and black pudding from McQueens of Bute - Delicious!
Tips:A very pleasant drive up the coast to Inverary, the Isle of Bute and steamer trips through the islands in the Firth of Clyde.

The Colintraive is a wee jewel. Lovely location, friendly, helpful, professional young staff, stylish comfy rooms and delicious food. It was so kind of the chef to specially prepare an extremely tasty dahl complete with accompaniments as I'd previously sampled the other vegetarian main on the menu. The risotto was excellent too and my husband was so enthusiastic about the salt cod. Compliments are also due to whoever chooses the background music for the public areas. This was engaging but never intrusive and right up our street! We couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable stay. Thank you!
Tips:Because of the season quite a few places were closed for lunch except at the weekend, so we didn't sample much outside the hotel. We did go to a place called'The Tearoom' but weren't particularly impressed although the cakes looked nice! The weather didn't completely stop us getting out and about but fallen trees on the beautiful walks around Benmore Gardens had closed Puck's Glen. The long coastal walk at the front of the hotel was great for a stroll! We'd love to go across on the short ferry to Bute sometime.

22nd January 2024:
Lovely, peaceful location and good food - exactly what we were looking for on our 2 night getaway. Staff were informal but very friendly and approachable. Food and wine selection was very good, everything well prepared and fairly priced. As the hotel was quiet it was suggested by staff that we take our evening meals in the bar which suited us as it was very cold outside (see below) and they sat us next to the log burner which was lovely and cozy until, on our second night, a group of around 6 gents came in and took pre-dinner drinks in the same small bar area, they weren't noisy but we did feel a bit crowded out and it forced us to retreat upstairs to our room, but we'd finished eating by then so it was okay. Room (Attenborough) was nicely decorated, afforded excellent views over the Kyles and the bed was large and comfortable. A suggestion would be to add a second comfy chair that would have allowed us to enjoy the views together whilst reading our books (the hotel was quiet in mid-January so I suppose we could have asked for a chair to be brought in but we never thought of it). Our only real complaint however was the central heating which was switched off each night. As mentioned, the hotel was quiet and this is probably a cost-saving exercise, but it was the coldest period in Scotland for some time with night-time temperatures dipping well below 0 degrees C and it wasn't pleasant to find the radiators were ice cold upon wakening each morning. The boiler was switched back on between 7am - 8am each morning when a member of staff arrived but it takes a good hour to heat a room of that size and as a result it was rather uncomfortably cold whilst getting ready to come downstairs for breakfast at 8:30. We did mention this both mornings to the member of staff serving breakfast, and again upon checking out, which was met with an apology. (I would add that the electric fire in our room was useful but only if one stays close to it as we found it isn't effective at heating the room when it's that cold outside.) We did enjoy our stay very much though, and we would definitely return, but perhaps choose a slightly warmer time of the year!
Would Recommend: Yes
Owner Response:Thank you for your message and I'm so sorry you were cold. Its not a cost saving but an oversight and we will ensure its left on from now until it gets a little warmer. We hope to give you a warm welcome back next time you book in and again thank you for your comments we will be sure to keep the heating on for the foreseeable. Very best, Clare

We had a lovely stay with you and it lived up to expectations. I realise we were out of season but the room was rather chilly on arrival, but easily remedied once we worked out the controls. If I was looking to find a fault it would be the electric shower which was a minor disappointment to the otherwise excellent bathroom.

Our stay may have been brief, yet we enjoyed our night with you immensely. We had a drink from the bar when we arrived back from a walk, which we enjoyed while relaxing on the settees in the Dining Room. Dinner was fabulous, our table looking out over the loch. Breakfast was good too, although somehow the pre-order forms were a bit mixed up and we didn't have quite have the breakfast we were anticipating. When it came to settling the bill for our stay, the total was verbally given, followed by an enquiry as to preferred payment method. An invoice detailing our costs would have been appreciated. The staff were all delightful and so helpful with any queries, including having an extra seat taken up to our room. We look forward to staying again with you at some not too distant point.

This is a small haven to relax and unwind. Placed at the narrows between the Isle of Bute and the Scottish Mainland it is a small hotel and restaurant which provides a unique -and “yesteryear” in a good way- enriching environment to step back to a happier and more pleasant time of life. The staff are superb, the owners are young, energetic and focused on guest experience- striving to make everyone feel special and appreciated. As a destination to enjoy great food and drink within a friendly and hospitable environment it would be hard to beat. Thoroughly recommend the accommodation, food, drink and above all the ambition and drive of the owners. Well done!
Tips:This is a destination for walks, exploration trips over to the Isle of Bute (5 min on a ferry) and of the excellent coastline. We saw the Waverley sea going paddle steamer, twin masted yachts and prolific wildlife and birds, as well as all the yachts and motorboats transiting the famous narrows all observed from the Hotel.

Owner Response:Hi Mrs Pike, We're so sorry that you didn't enjoy your meal and would have happily cooked you something more to your taste had we been made aware of your dissatisfaction when we checked back. The dish your ordered 'Maltagliati with almond and basil pesto' is hand rolled pasta prepared each day and paired with a homemade pesto with fresh basil, watercress and 36 month aged parmesan. Your meal was prepared by our head chef and tasted again upon it's return. It is of his opinion that the dish went out as intended. However we are sorry it was not to your taste. We are passionate about what we do here and work extremley hard to deliver a wonderful experience for all our guests so will happily reimburse you for pasta. Please call us to confirm your transaction and we can put it back on your card. Many thanks Joe , Head chef and owner

We absolutely loved staying with you, the room was very spacious, the bed was lovely and the rea making services and shortbread were wonderful, and our dinner was great! In terms of cleanliness, I took a mark off as I spilled water on the floor in bathroom and wiped it up with one of the facecloths. I'm afraid the cloth picked up quite a bit of dirt from the floor. But let me say that would never deter us from coming back. It was a memorable day for us, helped by Yasmine, David, yourselves and of course the adorable Winnie. Thank you all for making our 30th anniversary really lovely 🌹

Wonderful setting. Staff friendly, attentive and interested. Lovely touches - knowing drinks order from previous night, breakfast settings and preferences altered on second morning to reflect first morning. Nicest dinner table in Bay window reserved for us. We were in front two rooms. Lovely rooms, views fab. Difficult to fault, really comfortable bed, tray in room great, if anything bigger cafetiere needed for two people, milk could have been refreshed for second day, full length mirror would have been good and shower requires attention, grouting.
Tips:Mount Stuart a must, fabulous, a drive around the island of bute is lovely and ferries are a great way to travel.

We much enjoyed our visit to the Colintraive Hotel . The food was excellent and the proprietor and staff particularly friendly and helpful . However on reflection we feel the room cost is rather high for the quality provided . But at the same time we appreciate you have to cover the huge increase in fuel costs. Best wishes for a successful season.

Excellent accommodation, a fine menu and a well stocked bar. We were superbly well looked after. Our every need was met in a discreet way. Informed suggestions were grateful received regarding where to go, what to eat etc. This is a well staffed family establishment. We were made to feel very welcome
Tips:We are hill walkers. The Hotel was an excellent base for exploring the Cowal Hills. There was no need to sample other establishments, but I would be surprised if there are any which can compete with Colintraive

Tips:We visited Benmore Botanical Garden, just north of Dunoon on our way to Colntraive. Stunning gardens built into the hillside. Pucks Glen walk is well worth a visit. We had a fantastic time at The Colintraive Hotel. It was warm, welcoming and cosy....just what we needed for our Autumn re-charge.. Our room... looked out across the water to the Isle of Bute and was pretty, clean and comfortable. The cooking was clever and outstanding... featuring well sourced local produce beautifully cooked and presented. Dinner was elegant with enticing choices... we had a couple of puddings to die for...there is a good wine list ... and breakfast fresh and tasty. The staff and owners are extremely kind and friendly there’s an easy bustle to the place. The bar is nice and dogs are welcome. If I was travelling alone I’d be happy to stay. We stayed for three nights, but could have stayed longer. We were new to the area, which is beautiful with plenty of lovely countryside and shoreline to explore. The little car ferry over to the Isle of Bute is right by the hotel which makes a day out there easy. We visited Mount Stuart, Benmore Gardens, Kilbride Bay, but also the charming Colintraive Community Garden and informative local museum. Thankyou so much Claire, Joe and Winnie, Rachel and David for a lovely weekend..

A wonderful stay at The Colintraive … only wish we could have stayed longer. Welcoming, friendly, and helpful staff, and a lovely room, with super-comfortable bed. Food was great - the reason we stayed at The Colintraive was due to the amazing lunch we had last year, and we promised ourselves that we’d be back to have dinner and stay the night next time - and it didn’t disappoint. And thank you for being dog-friendly and making little Molly so welcome too! Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
Tips:It may be a long journey to reach The Colintraive, but it’s worth it … slow down and enjoy the scenery on the way there, then simply be and take in the extraordinary views and stunning location. Take the time to stroll along the shore track beyond the hotel … it can be as long or short a walk as you want, and take in the the ever changing vista (and weather!) around every corner. If staying longer, a visit to Bute 5 minutes over the ferry is a must - Mount Stuart House and gardens are well worth a visit, Scalpsie Bay beach to watch the seals, and the big expanse of sand and the cafe at Ettrick Bay.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel for the second time and - just as the one time before - we enjoyed every aspect of our stay. Claire and her team are lovely and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived until we left. The hotel is very cosy and atmospheric, with beautiful views, cosy rooms and a lot of attention to detail. Both dinner and breakfast were great, with fresh local products.
Tips:Probably a bit obvious, but I would definitely recommend going to Bute and seeing Mount Stuart House. Benmore gardens and Puck's Glen are also lovely and definitely worth a trip. Regarding food and drink, I would stay at the hotel - we had amazing food and wine there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Colintraive Hotel. We arrived by bike (after a very wet cycle from Tighnabruaich) & were met with a very friendly & warm welcome. Special mention to young Rachel who was absolutely superb, she gave us all the information we needed and was very attentive to our needs. The rooms were spotlessly clean & the showers were excellent (which was both welcome & needed). The bar was well stocked. The food was excellent & served in a relaxed and comfortable dining room. Our evening meal was exceptional using locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast we equally as impressive with a varied menu to suit all of our tastes. Staff were superb throughout. One minor suggestion that would have made our stay perfect. A drying room would have been appreciated (the hotel is perfectly situated for touring cyclists) and we won't be the first or last folk to arrive soak to the skin. We would be very happy to highly recommend the Colintraive Hotel to others.

Beautiful location overlooking loch. Staff were all really friendly and attentive making sure we were well cared for. Evening meal was delicious had the Langoustine starter and lamb main both were amazing. Breakfast was also great, my kids ate everything that came their way - it was my first time trying haggis as recommended by the breakfast chef and was lovely. The owner was really caring and gave me some great onward travel advice as I was travelling in an EV and advised that the village would hopefully soon have a charge point.
Tips:For eating and drinking no need to travel any further. The locals were all really friendly. There seems to be lots of cycle routes and walking routes nearby. I saw a deer enroute to the Inn so wildlife is on the doorstop. I am looking forward to going back on the motorbike as there were some fab roads nearby once you get away from the single track roads!

The only vegetarian option came without chips/potatoes, which all other meat/fish based options came with, despite the vegetarian option being more expensive than some other options. No side orders to be able to add to the dish to make a more complete meal. The dinner table was dirty as was some areas of the bathroom - particularly the shelf and window above sink. We asked if 7.30 p.m. was ok to come for dinner and we were assured that it was, but they were unable to even take orders until 8 p.m. We would have been happy to leave it to later if you were too busy to deal with us at 7.30 p.m.

Very friendly welcoming staff. However, for £160 a night we would have expected more attention to detail. The clip on beside light was not working. The grouting in the shower cubicle needed attention as it was black with mould in places. The wash basin plug did not have a tight fit and consequently the water kept draining away. Biscuits to accompany tea/coffee and a better selection of beverages e.g.hot chocolate, instant coffee please. On our first day much to our surprise our room was not fully serviced i.e.bed was not made or bathroom tidied. Having said all this we did enjoy our stay.

Friendly welcome from David who showed us to room and face a run down of the hotel . We had lunch on arrival Biggest langoustines I’d ever had . Like wee lobsters . Fabulous view from room . Lovely coffee , tea and biscuits . Little jug of milk in fridge . Bed super comfy and walk in shower. I have arthritis and stairs to room were a bit tricky but I took my time and managed . Dinner on 2 nights delicious. Small but varied menu . Breakfasts freshly cooked ( would have liked inclusion of more fish for breakfast and dinner but that’s me . Good bar tho no seating in bar but comfortable small lounge . Raining or we would have sat outside . Beautiful little hotel with outstanding staff and service .
Tips:We were only in the area 2 nights . The ferry is a stones throw from hotel and runs every half hour to Bute which we drove round in a few hours . The hotel is frequented by sailors walkers cyclists so vibrant and even the shinty team which the hotel sponsors . Clare and baby Winnie visited us us in the dining room . Met some locals who were friendly and interesting. My husband doesn’t normally say he’ll pay a return visit but says he would definitely return to the Colintraive.

I wasn’t a fan of the duck feather duvets and pillows ( only as I have allergies) however I’m sure if I asked I could have had an alternative as staff were so friendly.

Perfect getaway with delicious food.
Tips:Simple pleasures- sipping a local gin/ale outdoors with view over to Bute, dinner absolutely delicious. Walk through Colintraive, take in the community garden and gaze at the houses along the shore. Day trip to Bute, visit the Victorian toilets (?!), art gallery, climb up the Serpentine and admire the view, spend hours at Mount Stuart house, gardens and shore, keep driving down the coast. On the way home put on your walking shoes at Benmore Botanical gardens and enjoy the climbs and the plants. Lunch at the Boat House at Dunoon. Perfect.

I can highly recommend the small, cosy, intimate, Colintraive Hotel for all-comers! From family with kids, to solo travellers like me. The staff could not have been more accomodating and friendly. Exceptional. Having no doubt been a family home in the past, the hotel folk go out of their way to make you feel right at home. The food was terrific (of course, I ate in their dining room, with the spectacular views of Bute across the way, all three nights of my stay). Locally produced ingredients make for a quality meal. Breakfast is included and it's as varied as you want, with starters like the local porridge; setting you up for a full Scottish, if that's you tase, which is certainly is mine. Glad I came, and I'll surely be back.
Tips:You're well placed for the west coast and the numerous isles. Bute is opposite and the ferry is 100 yards away! It's good for cycling. Inveraray is a 45 minute drive, but well worth the visit. You can spend the day there strolling or hiking. Your choice. I did both.

We had a wonderful night at the Colintraive. The staff were friendly and responsive to our every need. We had a free upgrade but would have been more than satisfied with our original booking. Stunning views, great food, personal attention - sort of like home, but better. And thank you for the home made biscuits in the room. I ate the lot even though I wasn’t hungry. You should sell them as take home presents. See you again soon.
Tips:Try a ferry ride to the Isle of Bute. And there’s a lovely play area just by the bowling green.

This is a gem of a place. So close to Glasgow yet a world away. A terrific place to get away from it all and feel your stress levels fall. The service is second to none and the food is exceptional. I can’t recommend this place enough
Tips:The great thing about The Colintraive is that it is remote but yet not so. You are right next to the ferry to Bute which means it’s so easy to go across to the island even for a short time. The Kyles of Bute are so beautiful and worth exploring. Tighnabruaich is nearby and worth a visit.

Excellent food and a friendly welcome. Beds very comfortable and covered in really nice soft bed linen. Large fluffy towels. The en-suite shower room had been recently refurbished and there were a few wee rough edges to be finished but it had been very nicely and stylishly done. Very nice wee bar also in the hotel. Overall, highly recommended.
Tips:Recommend a trip to The Oystercatcher at Otter Ferry for lunch/dinner. We also had a very nice walk from Tighnabruaich along the shoreside track to Caladh.

Welcoming staff, took time to make our anniversary stay special, including giving lots of useful information about the local area and Bute, where we had said we were going to visit the next day.We also had lovely food matched Gin and wine pairing recommendations. The beautiful Attenborough Room surpassed our expectations with the double views and windows . Wee touches such as the white electric stove and the fridge for keeping fresh milk added to the room's comforts. The only slight improvement we would recommend I'd a small blind for the bathroom window for privacy as it can be seen from outside the hotel. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant..the chef certainly knows what he is doing. We would definitely return. Fortunately we have an anniversary every year.
Tips:Within a couple of minutes walk are the community gardens with waterfall viewpoint, and the local heritage centre . The ferry to Bute is just 2 minutes from the hotel so a trip there is highly recommended with a must to Mount Stuart if time allows. So much else to see and do in the area which is very scenic and historic. Nice walks to Castle Lachlan, the Kilmorie Chapel and Burial ground,Kilmodan Celtic Stones and not to mention the viewpoints from the Kyle's, Tighnabruich and Portavadie . Too many to mention.!!

The Hotel was recommended to us by neighbours who are frequent visitors to Rothesay. It didn't disappoint with friendly amiable staff, a varied menu with lovely food well presented. The breakfast porridge was yummy.
Tips:Although the location might seem a bit out of the way it's only about 40 road miles from Glasgow albeit you have to get a ferry which is an adventure in itself. So don't hesitate to book yourself a mini-break here as you won't be disappointed.

We had a fantastic stay at The Colintraive and were so well looked after by the very welcoming, friendly and professional staff team of Sasha and Martin. Nothing was too much trouble to them and made our stay really special. The bedroom was lovely, with lots of really nice touches like beautiful local pottery, fresh milk and homemade shortbread. Spotlessly clean, all down to Sashas Mum who takes care of the Housekeeping at the hotel, what a team! We had a delicious meal at the hotel in the evening, then an amazing breakfast the following morning. Everything was beautifully cooked and freshly prepared. Sasha was there again at breakfast, making sure we had everything we needed, and was just as attentive and engaged as she had been the night before even though she must have worked until the end of the dinner service.

Lovely hotel, our room (Bute) had a great view and was comfortable. It was very clean when we arribed, spotted a cobweb on the standard lamp at the bed though!! We didn't watch tv or use the hospitality tray, but did not fresh ground coffee is supplied. Very unusual. Staff were charming and warm, the Cornish lady especially so. And Claire is lovely! Loved our stay and would return in s flash...
Tips:Mount Stuart is a total must see as is the whole of Bute although Rothesay was a trifle disappointing, run down and glum. Victoria toilets have been vandalised which is a shame. Kilmun also worth a visit, the guide at the church was so knowledgable about Dunoon, the US base and Holy Loch. Whole South Cowal is delightful and Colintraive especially. We drove right along past Strone Point round to the fish farm. Views are amazing all over. And area is so tranquil....

Having visited two weeks earlier for dinner with friends, I was so impressed that I was lucky to get a cancellation and stayed for two nights over last weekend. It’s a lovely hotels with the warmest staff. The food is some of the best I have eaten anywhere in the country. Add to that the fact that they are totally dog friendly makes it the prefect place for a short break. I will be back as soon as I can
Tips:The food at the hotel is excellent. The hotel is right by the ferry to Bute which is great to explore. T Tighnabruaich is a short drive away and Portavadie just slightly further. Colintraive is a perfect place to get away but also a great place to explore Argyll

Just a few wee tiny things as feedback. we loved our stay, so hope you will take this as constructive. Our table at dinner was a bit wobbly and extremely sticky, probs due to no wine coasters etc. it did impact our eating slightly. There was a homecooked chip (dropped by a fellow diner next to us) and the next day at breakfast it was still there. Our room was amazing, the dinner was really, really good - the pork was out the park good, soooo good. Let down slightly at brekkie, only one teabag in a pot for 2 and Lichfields tea bags aren't the best..it made for a terrible cuppa. The girl at breakfast wasn't exactly a communicator. 'What toast would you like' errr what toast are you serving? sourdough, wholemeal, ordinary white sandwich loaf? I don't even think she said good morning to us. when my partner checked out she didn't ask how our stay was or anything. When, as only a couple, you've just spent over £300 on 1 night's DB&B + drinks you want to feel valued, that's still a decent splurge unless you are on London wages. Rest of the staff were amazing. we hope to come back next year and bring family and hope with some very small improvements it will be even better.
Tips:We didn't know the area at all. First time but would recommend continuing on the road past the hotel and into the village proper. Very quiet on a Monday morning so perfect for a walk or a cycle. We stopped overnight at Kames on our drive back from Isla/Jura and although we had a great view it was super busy with cars etc and not so good. Plus the food/service was shockingly bad there. Conintraive defo the best place on this part of the Cowal coastline.

Beautiful place and location. Even in the rain! Food was delicious and great fun to have impromptu live music! Facilities all fine. Room was lovely but we noticed a couple of small things - table top & drawer front around the tea/coffee tray were splashed with tea/coffee stains; the top ledge of the en suite wall tiling by the towel rail needed dusting. Evening food service was very busy which was great for you. Our meal was delayed and I think we were last to eat. It was a very quiet dining room by the time we got our mains. Hope you find time in what’s likely to be a busy summer to control the weeds in the garden - they’ve got a bit out of hand! We were sorry not to meet Clare.

Owner Response:Thank you and sorry not to meet you -we are expecting any day so I haven't been working as much as normally. The coffee had exploded with another customer that week so we must organise a paint job asap as it has been cleaned thoroughly but sadly has stained. I'm sorry that your meal was delayed - I hope you enjoyed it and I've asked the team to check the tiling by the towel rail more thoroughly. The gardener has had covid and we are so looking forward to having him back hopefully next week agree its a bit too wild just now! Very best and hope to see you again, Clare

Claire and all staff members went out of their way to make my short stay at the Colintraive comfortable and relaxing and provided a great base to enable me to explore Cowal and Bute. There is a warm family feel about the hotel which I am sure will also rub off on other guests. The food and service was excellent and I certainly will plan a return visit in the near future. Meanwhile my best wishes to Claire and Joe on their pending arrival.
Tips:The Colintraive provides an obvious focal point for the village and I noticed that quite a few fellow guests had travelled from Bute to enjoy the delights on the menu. With the regular local ferry service available the ability to explore Bute by car /walking /bicycle is really easy. One of my personal favourite walks is along the waterside road to Colintraive Church past a range of fine houses and gardens,
