Carry Farm is a great place to stay, looking out into the loch and a stones throw from the beach. Ideally located to explore the Argyle coast and this peninsula. Everything about Carry Farm was perfect for our family holiday. The location at the Southern end of Cowal is peaceful, full of wildlife, with lots to do and places to eat. The Farm itself is lovely to walk around and the beach is great for a morning swim. Fiona and co were excellent at communicating before and during our stay and were always on hand if needed. A gem of a place for a holiday away from it all.
Tips:While there is plenty of beaches, forests and open space to explore, as well as lots of local cafes and places to eat, some of our best times were spent wondering around the farm or just sitting on the veranda looking over the water (or up at the stars in the dark night sky).

Had a great stay here. Although the owners were away they regularly checked up to see if we we’re ok. There were no other guests this week which suited us. It was very peaceful, just the swallows, oystercatchers, gannets and so on. It was also a good place to store and launch your own boat.

Thank you for such a wonderful week this Summer. Carry Farm provided us with wonderful self catering accommodation in the most fabulous setting. The lodge was really well kitted out with everything you could need. Fiona and Derek were excellent hosts and answered any questions we had. Our daughter was enrolled in Tignabruaich Sailing School for the week, so we were able to relax on our deck with a cup of coffee from Carry Farm's on site cafe, and watch her enjoying her lessons. The Waverley chugged through the Kyles a few times over the week which was a joy to see, and the Cowel peninsula didn't fail to show off some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery. On site you will also find an inspiring gallery with local works to buy, including beautiful textiles made from Carry Farm's own Hebridean Sheep. All in all it's a top spot to stay! We were exceptionally blessed with the weather!
Tips:Wonderful drive over either by road or ferry. Warm welcome at Carry Farm. Superb walks and beaches on the doorstep. Excellent local store at Kames. Good pub/hotel at Kames. Just take midge spray as you never know when they'll appear!

It's a lovely place, particularly for sailors but those who enjoy walking and nature will also like it. The accommodation in the lodges is very well cared for and thoughtful, with good art on the walls and a nice feeling altogether.
Tips:You will get a kind welcome and efficient attention for any matter that might arise. There are certain weather conditions - no wind, after rain - and times of year when midges will be around. Check out Skin So Soft by Avon Cosmetics. Although bearable, to people, if a bit cheap and tacky, for some reason known only to their little selves, midges loathe it.

A perfectly relaxing short break. Fiona and Derek made us feel very welcome and were very attentive, definitely going the extra mile for us. We absolutely loved staying here and felt very much at home. The lodge is incredibly comfortable and well equipped. Particularly loved the retro looking moccamaster coffee machine. We were very sad to leave.
Tips:The perfect place to recharge your batteries. The walks on the farm and nearby are perfect for the non hiker and all the animals are adorable. I looked forward each day to seeing them. My husband spent most of his time painting the wonderful scenery. It’s incredibly calming here.

We had a lovely stay at Carry Farm and would totally recommend it. The view from the lodge is breathtaking, even if the weather isn't great. Really enjoyed meeting the donkeys and goats and popping into the cafe. The lodge was warm and cosy and well-suited for someone with limited mobility.
Tips:Ostel Bay is an amazing beach. Nice cafes in Tighnabruich. Roads are really quiet so would be great for cycling with children, although we didn't see anywhere to hire bikes.

We had a perfect week, it felt like a huge gift to have discovered Carry Farm and its surroundings. We had a magical time exploring with our 18 month old, doing rounds visiting the sheep and goats, each day trying out a different one of the many easily accessible but stunning walks in the area. We were definitely very lucky with the weather, and still being out of season it felt like the whole area was there just for us. Super friendly people and place, lovely coffee shop on site and everything we needed just there.
Tips:Food at Botanica, and the outdoor pool at Portavadie were both highlights. We did all the walks listed, and they were all wonderful.

This is the 4/5th time we have stayed at Carry Farm over the past ten years or so, we love being there. The location is superb: peace and quiet, just noise of the birds and the lapping of the water, and the bats at night. The lodges are comfortable and, for the main part have everything you need for your stay. Fiona and Derek are always so welcoming and friendly and are always at hand to answer any questions you may have.
Tips:Due to Covid restrictions in Scotland it is recommended that you book for restaurants or trips you may want to go to/take part in. The Kames pub offers a decent menu and has good views over the bay. Quadmania in Blairmore is a great couple of hours fun if you want to try quad biking through the forest, full instructions are given and Covid guidelines are strictly adhered to. The Kames general store has everything you need for making a meal alternatively there is the Premier store down in the village.

Lovely quiet peaceful location. It is great now that the coffee shop, which has beautiful coffee and cakes, is there. Lovely stop at the end of the farm walk . Organic candles, creams and soaps are also there in a beautiful shop, made by the lovely Fiona. Such a refreshing place. The Craft gallery also houses lovely pottery, wall hangings and items made from the wool from the sheep on the farm
Tips:A visit to the amazing Kilbride beach is a must. Lots of super walks around the Cowal Peninsula. Lovely Gallery in Tighnabruich. Word of warning this time we struggle to find places to eat . Hotels and restaurants are struggling to get staff so opening hours and availability have been curtailed advisable to book in advanced. The best food for us was at the Coylart Hotel in Loch Eck simply amazing

I can’t recommend Carry Farm enough. The lodges are beautiful and comfortable. The setting is idyllic. You can sit and do nothing, or get outside and do loads. Walk, swim in the sea, play tennis in the village….tour the local area. It is all there for you. The WiFi is not great (this is a big plus for me) but there is some magic running the smart TV which allows you to connect to Netflix, iPlayer etc…

Tips:We have a 2 year old. Had great fun just chasing the chickens, exploring on the beach, stroking the lambs and using the little play area all at Carry Farm. Nearby the beach at Kilbride bay was stunning, though a bit of a walk for tiny legs - buggy/shoulder carry advised! Theres a little hut selling food and ice cream at the start of the path but no loo! If you want to eat at the oystercatcher in otter ferry you should book ahead! We missed out! Still a nice spot to explore and paddle! We also did a day trip to Dunoon, and used the pool at Portavadie - both lovely!

We loved our stay - so relaxing. The views from the balcony were so tranquil, so special. And it was very easy not to use the car much and just head out with a picnic and walk and walk. The aesthetic of the lodge was nice too, as was the quality of the linen/towels, and it was toasty warm (the heating worked so efficiently). We hope to come back with our brother and sister in law once Covid restrictions lift. We also appreciated the relaxed, trusting welcome - with Fiona off sailing and no fuss coming or going - trust on both sides. We liked the goats, donkeys, sheep and chickens, as well as spotting all kinds of birds and watching seals from the balcony.

We absolutely LOVED our stay. The Sandpiper was a great cabin to stay in, with equally great scenery. We have already recommended you to all friends and family, and hope to return soon. We miss the goats, donkeys, red squirrel, black sheep and chooks already. Thank you for a lovely break.
Tips:Due to Covid restrictions, we did find it hard to eat out, but Portavadie was open, so we had lunch there. This peninsula is a favourite of ours and there are many places to drive too. Otter Ferry, Dunoon, Rothesay, to name but a few. Ostel/Kilbride Bay, is of course a firm favourite. Carry Farm is a great base for exploring the area and is definately worth visiting.

I spent 4 days with friends at Carry farm in a lodge. We found the accommodation to be extremely good value for money, the twin room is tiny but adequate, the kitchen very well provided with equipment and the view from lounge area is delightful. TV and internet were good. Electronic welcome pack information was comprehensive, be careful you don't miss the attachment if viewing emails on your phone (like I did).
Tips:Carry farm is a great base for walking and cycling, access to a wide range of places of interest. We visited the Island of Gigha, which has the added interest of two ferry crossings, taking our bikes over to explore this lovely island. great local ice-cream and very welcoming Hotel beer garden. On another day we cycled round the Island of Bute with lovely coastal paths and quiet roads. Coltraine Hotel restaurant (on mainland side of the ferry) very very good, best to book, we were very lucky to get a table on a Thursday night.

Carry Farm is the most peaceful, beautiful and energetic place to be. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding area by boat, on foot and bicycles. There are abundant places to discover with wildlife, scenery and great food available locally. Fiona and Derek are wonderful, thoughtful hosts, who made us welcome and comfortable throughout our stay.
Tips:No need to shop before you come. Kames village shop is stocked with everything you need and has long opening hours. Food is excellent in the area. The Oystercatcher offers seafood and a fresh, exciting menu in a stunning location. Head over to Tarbert and Portavadie, to explore the mariners and coast.

We really enjoyed our stay. The boys had a great five days on the water and we had a very restful time just pottering around the cabin and the area. Organisation/administration was excellent from start to finish, particularly given the many uncertainties this year as a result of Covid. It was just wonderful to get away from home and for the boys to have a week's sailing. I managed to do some work during the week and it's good to know that the wifi and facilities in the cabin would work fine if I were in future to combine working remotely while the boys were sailing. We found it particularly good to be staying in a cabin on Carry Farm. If we'd had to stay elsewhere in the area, it wouldn't have been a problem, but being on site was ideal. Pricing for accommodation and the courses was good.
Tips:I don't think we discovered anything particularly novel during our stay but followed the recommendations in the materials in the cabin. We had a pleasant dinner at Portavadie on our second evening and at the Kames hotel on our final night. The walk from Ardlamont point round the coast back to Carry Farm was enjoyable, with some fun clambering over the rocks at times.

Friendly and welcoming, Carry Farm is a lovely place to stay. The cabins are well equipped, clean and warm with stunning views.
Tips:Carry Farm is in a beautiful quiet location, so gentle strolls along the shore are fab. We enjoyed the quiet roads for cycling and also followed the Cowal Way for a run to Portvadie where we enjoyed the heated outdoor pool followed by pizza in the restaurant.

We had a family get together in one of the cabins between Xmas and New Year, and had a wonderful time. Facilities were perfect.
Tips:Fantastic place for out-doors activities. We walked for miles around the coast from the Farm without using the car. Its a bit wild with few established walking paths so you have to be persistent to get along the shoreline eg around Ardlamont Point. But that's what we enjoy. We saw a golden eagle at and had a nice beach walk at Kilbride Bay. Didn't matter that it rained most of the time - hey, its the west of Scotland in winter! Ate out at the Kames Hotel one night. Reasonable value for money.

Tips:Use the local shops and cafes as the owners are all very friendly and helpful. Use the ferries to visit islands like Bute, Arran and Gigha; the ferry to Tarbert was always a joy too. Sample the local walks at Tighnabruaich and Kames; the scenery is lovely.

The location, atmosphere and warm welcome at Carry Farm this year was wonderful. We loved our lodge and watching the sailors passing by every day, it was a joy to be able to kayak from the shore and walk for miles along the stunning coastline. Everything was clean, comfortable and made for a relaxing, engaging experience in the surroundings. Thank you.
Tips:We are at The Inver Restaurant. It was a lovely experience, with unusual, experimental food in a stunning spot. The Ouster Catcher at Otterferry was an outstanding find. The food and service surpassed all expectations! Portavadie Spa for the day was really fun and a great thing to do as a family. We enjoyed some delicious cocktails and mocktails in the bar afterwards. The local shop in Kames was even better than I remembered. No need to buy before you arrive. They have everything and more.

We had a lovely week. The accommodation was super comfortable with amazing views. But most importantly the children had lots of freedom to explore outdoors safely. Fiona and Derek always provide a warm welcome. I have been returning here for many years and will be back again next year.
Tips:We had a lovely meals at Botanical and the Kames hotel. There is so much to do and explore - walks, beaches, wildlife, Portavadie outdoor pool, Bute, not to mention sailing. I’ve been returning to the area for 30 (gulp) years and have yet to run out of new things to do!

Buzzard Lodge is comfortable, light, clean and well-equipped. We particularly enjoy its original artwork. Carry Farm is in a beautiful, peaceful, natural location with views over the Kyles of Bute. We have stayed here previously and will be back. It is an ideal base for walking in woodlands, the hills and on beaches.
Tips:We walked on wild and lovely Ostel beach and in the Glenan oakwoods near Portavadie. We visited the Isle of Bute and Mount Stuart (fascinating stately home, lovely gardens). We enjoyed Portavadie Spa (swimming and restaurants) and a delicious lunch at Botanica in the Barn, Millhouse.

quite a big camping/caravanning/holiday site. Don't let that put you off if you like peace and quiet. Our lodge was lovely to stay in - spacious, beautifully furnished and well thought-out. We never got tired of the view from the window and deck, straight down to the beach and across to Bute. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Tips:lots of walks, nice beaches, places to explore or just to relax in. This little peninsula has such a varied landscape, it changes around every corner. We found plenty of good places to eat. Enjoyed the ferry trip across to Tarbert Loch Fyne, leaving the car behind for the day.

10th August 2018:
Carry Farm is simply idyllic. It is always quiet and peaceful with spectacular views across the Kyles to Bute. We have stayed in the lodges three times now over a period of 8 years and the lodges remain as if we had been there only a few months previously and make us feel that we have simply come to our other home. It is great to see the new arrivals of the animals and they seem to like seeing us especially with food in hand. It is a delightful place to stay and we look forward to our next visit.
Tips:Argyll really is a secret coast with such spectacular scenery. Just going to the Kilbride beach is unbelievable as there are rarely more than a few people there yet the bay has pure, soft sand and slopes gently into the water so that the water is warm, brilliant for kids and for those of us who lack resilience to the cold. Bute is close by using a 5 minute ferry crossing and well worth a visit to Mount Stuart House. The Inver Cottage Restaurant on the shore of Loch Fyne near Strachur is a superb restaurant either for dinner, using local ingredients and wonderful imagination, or even just for coffee and cakes during the day. The Otter Ferry restaurant is also excellent as it has some excellent sea food dishes.

The accommodation and facilities were superb. The helpfulness and delightful, warm welcome of the owners really made our stay. They could t do enough to help and there was plenty of useful information available. We loved the location and it is a perfect base to jus be or from which to explore. I can’t recommend the Kames village shop highly enough too. It was brilliant and so were the owners. Don’t bring food, shop here!
Tips:Kames village shop - great fresh produce, meat, dairy, whole foods, wines and craft beers. Colintraive Hotel - lovely food and warm welcome. Enjoyed the walk up the hills behind. Skipness Seafood Shack - amazing platter, location was gorgeous and can’t wait to return. Get into the water, by kayak, boat or to swim! It is a magical place to explore on the water.

A fantastic, safe location for a family holiday. Spectacular views and a restful atmosphere. Our lodge was comfortable, clean and fresh. It provided us with the perfect location for exploring the area and also for staying on site, enjoying breakfast on the deck watching the breeze on the loch.
Tips:While staying at Carry Farm our two children took part in the Tighnabruaich Sailing School for a week. The instruction was great, with friendly, competent instructors providing a high standard of tuition. The focus is on enjoying the sailing and having fun out on the water. You can tell this by the happy faces and by the laughter you hear drifting across the loch!
