Fantastic personalised service - you remembered our preferences very quickly. Food was delicious - breakfast, and the two platters were locally and sustainably sources and more special than you would get elsewhere.

Tips:

Islay e-bikes were great and easy to collect and work. Kilchoman tour was very informative. Port Charlotte hotel for food.

Beautiful house! Very welcoming and homely. Lovely décor in the bedrooms and lounges. The family are lovely and really try their very best at everything they do to make your stay the best possible. The food was amazing, plentiful and served in a lovely dining room with nice china and crystal. A very special place to stay. Loved it.

Beautiful house spotless clean. Breakfast was superb. Emma accommodated every dietary requirement to make sure no one was left out. Poached fruit was delicious and poached eggs cooked to perfection. Emma and Graham ensure everyone is comfortable and local tips to get the best from your stay on the island. Exceptionally comfortable if you want to sit in the public areas and chill. Cannot recommend the hosts or accommodation highly enough.

Tips:

If you’re cycling I’d recommend an e bike. Islay is quite flat but the wind can be killer. I cycled 90 miles visiting distilleries. No way could I have even contemplated that distance without the help of the motor. (I am an occasional cyclist).

Beautiful hotel, great location, fabulous hotel owners who couldn't do enough for you. Great local knowledge and advice. Freely giving advice on where to go and what to do. Fabulous whisky room to purchase and try local whiskies, great wine list and fabulous food platters available. Comfy beds, warm and cosy rooms and fabulously decorated. Not got a bad word to say about the place. A truly great Islay experience!

Cannot thank you enough for making our stay so wonderful. You were so helpful with organising things to do but also making us feel so special on the Saturday "not wedding day"! Glengedale is just the most special place, you feel like you are at home the minute you step through the door. Thank you so much Emma! xx My parents are planning to come in the Spring xx

Glenegedale house is a wonderful place to stay on Islay. Emma and Graeme are fantastic hosts and truly do go the extra mile to make your stay with them so memorable. We’ll be back, and hopefully soon!

Tips:

From Glenegedale, Port Ellen and Bowmore are easily reachable by bus or taxi but your own transport will help get to other beautiful and less accessible parts of the island. Obviously any visitor to Islay must visit some of the nine distilleries and sample the best whiskey! Also try Islay sea adventures for a fantastic boat trip seeing so much wildlife and the island from a different perspective.

We had the most wonderful four day stay at Glenegedale House. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and of a very high standard. Breakfast was exceptional and with Emma's delicious breakfast muffins for lunch we didn't need anything else! Graeme and Emma were more than happy to help with suggestions for evening meals and booking them for us. Amazing attention to detail in every way

Tips:

We enjoyed visiting several distilleries and visitor centers although we didn't take any tours. We enjoyed evening meals in The Islay Hotel I Port Ellen and The Bowmore Hotel in Bowmore. 59 different bird species were spotted including golden eagle, white tailed sea eagle and merlin.

Extremely welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. You went the extra mile in every respect. Food in particular was a highlight and I will send you a photo of the sharing plate, maybe a photo could go on your website, a description alone does not do it justice. We felt very safe with all your Covid organisation.

Tips:

Your own information booklet had lots of ideas. This could be pointed out when being shown the room. I also used www.islayinfo.com which I really liked. We enjoyed the circular walk to the American Monument. The beach outside your house. The Kilchoman Military Cemetery and beach below it. The drive from Port Ellen to Ardbeg. We saw Islay in the best of weathers.

We both had a lovely stay at Glenegedale. Emma and Graeme were so welcoming and friendly, the food was amazing and the house was beautiful. It was the perfect combination of 5 star facilities within a relaxed and friendly environment.

Tips:

Our favourite places to visit on the island were the Mull of Oa, Finlaggan and sitting with a cup of coffee and cake looking across to Jura from Ardenhoe distillery cafe, but we enjoyed everything the island had to offer including the variety of wildlife. We also very much enjoyed a day trip to Jura. The Islay Hotel in Port Ellen and the Harbour Inn in Bowmore were great places to eat and the charcuterie plate at Glenegedale was something special

Glenegdale House is a special little gem, that whilst I don’t want to tell people about, so the secret gets out, I must. Emma, Graeme and their family go above and beyond to offer 5 star service, in food, rooms, hospitality and more. I cannot recommend the hotel enough, particularly during these difficult times, where everything is beyond immaculate.

Tips:

There is a gorgeous little walk to the beach about a mile and a half from the hotel. Even on a stormy day, it is worth a peek. Also, ask Emma to see Finn ;)

Very nice guest house with comfortable public lounges to relax in. Views over the small airport and to the sea beyond. Proprietors are the perfect hosts and have a wealth of local knowledge so can advise you on where to go, eat etc. Amazing breakfast sets you up for the day and in the evening you can partake of seafood or meat and cheese platters. The seafood is locally sourced and is of the highest quality. Rooms are comfortable with good quality linen on the beds and toiletries, hairdryer etc provided. Tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms to welcome you after a hard day's sightseeing!

Tips:

Plenty to do outdoors for cyclists, walkers etc. We opted to go cockling at Loch Gruinart. Cockles here are big and the flesh is plump and juicy. Bring your wellies and rakes! Also for whisky lovers, lots of distilleries to choose from. Many have shops and visitor centres with lovely views of the stunning scenery. A visit to Portnahaven, a lovely picturesque village, is to be recommended. We tried Sea Salt in Port Ellen for dinner one night and were not disappointed. Good service, generous portions and beautifully cooked food.

31st August 2020:

We came across a cancellation at Glenegedale during our week off and we’re lucky enough that we were accommodated. We had difficulties with our travel arrangements but Emma went the extra mile and beyond to make sure we could get there. We are grateful that she did because we had an amazing week. The B&B is located close to the airport with Bowmore and Port Ellen short drives. There is a nearby beach “the big strand” which is beautiful and often deserted. The B&B is immaculate. The house is beautiful and well kept with a slight vintage charm. Emma & Graeme are very welcoming and we were very comfortable in their company. They have a lot of knowledge of Islay and were able to give us excellent advice and ideas on how to occupy our time there. You would be forgiven for struggling to drag yourself out of the cozy bed, but once you do you are rewarded with one of the best breakfast experiences you will encounter. The dining tables are laid out with the attention to detail that the hosts pride themselves with. The dishes and silverware are beautiful and compliment the surroundings of the room. To start we were offered porridge and shown how it is best topped whilst on the island (I won’t spoil the surprise). You are also offered a cooked breakfast of choice, with high quality ingredients including eggs from the hosts’ hens. You are also offered granola, homemade jam & marmalade, and fruits. Everything served is perfect. They are extremely generous but you don’t need to worry about waste. Any scraps are fed to the animals. We took our freshly baked cupcakes with us to have later in the day, but there is an honesty box with a selection of cakes near the house. What we tried was delicious and you will find it hard not to treat yourself. Graeme and Emma could not have done more to make our holiday the best it could be. Our stay at Glenegedale House will be remembered for all the right reasons. It is a fine example of how guest accommodation should be.

Tips:

We followed the advice given by Graeme and Emma for to make best use of our time during our visit. Islay has many beautiful beaches and you are spoiled for choice. Machir Bay is my favourite of those that I have visited, but there are beaches on the south part of the island with calmer waters that are safe to enter if you can brave the cold. You will know of the distilleries on the island which are the main attraction for many. I would also recommend taking the boat over to Jura for a day. It is a more remote island but equally beautiful in its own way.

Some of the kindest most engaging people we've met in all our travels. Their welcoming nature was wonderfully complimented by their knowledge of the island and outstanding recommendations on where and how to go about exploring. Saving the best for last, the food was extraordinary. The seafood plate for dinner was incredible but the breakfasts were absolutely unmatched. I can't give a strong enough recommendation. We will no doubt return.

Tips:

See the whole island, each corner has something to offer. Bring hiking shoes even for simple touring just to be safe. Islay Woolen Mill has beautiful items, fascinating machinery and history, and, like the whole island, the nicest people (Marcus and Gordon). Eat the seafood and drink the scotch.

The perfect hosts and the perfect stay. We loved the personal touches and attention to detail, the fact that Emma and Graeme went above and beyond to help us and make our trip special, the absolutely incredible food!! Not to mention our comfortable room and the fantastic location of Glenegedale, the perfect base for exploring Islay.

Tips:

The best food we had was at Glenegedale with the seafood platter and charcuterie, we also really enjoyed Sea Salt at Port Ellen and the Port Charlotte Hotel. Our highlights for places to visit were the many beaches but particularly the 7-mile stretch of beach near Glenegedale, walking the hills of Jura, visiting the gin distillers and whisky distilleries that were open during our stay. Finlaggan was also a highlight and the Museum of Islay Life was great for learning more about Islay’s history and heritage.

My son and I have just stayed here two nights to celebrate his 30th Birthday. We both had a great time, at the hotel and on the island. We received a very warm welcome, and the owners were very helpful with planning our trips out. We visited two distilleries, great beaches including the one opposite the hotel. We also went over to Jura to Lussa Gin as another suggestion from Emma. Great gin, bought three bottles. We ate out at the Sea Salt one night and Charlotte Hotel the other, both very good. Also went to Portnahaven which is definitely worth a visit. The hotel is very well furnished. Three lounges to relax in, which was a lot for four bedrooms. Lovely twin room number 3. Breakfast is one of the best I’ve had, with plenty of choice. You may see cheaper places on websites, but this was worth every penny.

We were made welcome and particularly enjoyed relaxing by the fire. Our room was maybe small but we were very comfortable. This is a very well kept establishment.

Tips:

We are particularly interested in the history of the Island, the ruined churches and their grave yards. The flora and fauna. The villages with their own special charm and of course the distilleries! We are so very grateful to Emma and Graeme for the most wonderful time that we spent at their house. They took such good care of us. Everything was perfect: from the first tea and cake that they welcomed us with to the last afternoon that we comfortably spent in the lounge (very generous tea and cake again!) long past the checkout time. They made reservations for dinner for us and took us back when our ferry was cancelled and called the port for us. Their breakfasts are amazing and stylish, Emma’s soaked fruit are to die for. We will for long remember our warm and cozy evenings by the fire place with tea (under 18) and whiskey (over). Such a lovely family! Wishing every success to Cameron at the Uni and health and prosperity to all!!!

We were made very welcome by Emma and Graeme .The room was very comfortable and cosy. Facilities were excellent too. Breakfast was first class and such a good menu also. Cameron is such a lovely lad. He even entertained us with music on his fiddle. They certainly deserve 5 stars +

Tips:

You really need a car to get around the island . There are buses but not too frequent. There are no places to have a meal except Bowmore which is nearest but no later buses. If you are a whisky lover there are plenty distilleries to visit but you would really need to have transport. In good weather it would be a nice place for walking etc.

1st September 2019:

Glenegedale House is not just a property, a B&B, or a hotel, it is a truly extraordinary experience. We arrived during a rainstorm and were greeted by Emma, who quickly ushered us into the house with fresh coffee and cakes. Immediately we felt welcomed and part of their Islay family. Breakfast is a food lovers heaven: homemade fruit compote, fresh breads, slow-cooked porridge with cream and a “special ingredient,” and a long menu of specialties. We ate dinner at the House twice, first with an incredible meat/cheese charcuterie, and second with an even more stunning selection of fresh seafood. Emma’s presentation of the platters was delightful, she told us they try to source everything locally. I told her she should video tape the presentations, it’s the best marketing for Islay one could ever imagine! Definitely 5-star in presentation, service, and quality.

Tips:

The House itself outshines the amazing pictures you see online. The sitting areas are beautifully appointed with comfortable sofas and antiques. There are 4 guest rooms, ours was the king overlooking the courtyard and hills beyond. The room included a large wardrobe with a range of amenities and the en-suite was small but modern. Loved the pillows, and the sheets were incredibly soft. The House is centrally located with easy access across the island. Graeme introduced us to Heather with Bauld’s private hire tour service, who helped us explore Islay - something you must do. Thank you, we can’t wait to come back!

This is one of the best B and Bs we've stayed in. The owners were very welcoming and gave us very good advice about where to go and what to see. The house was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent

Tips:

Islay is a beautiful island, and we enjoyed exploring it, stopping off occasionally for whisky tasting at the various distilleries on the island The owners suggested that we do a day trip to Jura, which is the neighbouring island. We really enjoyed taking the short ferry crossing, and were surprised at how different it is from Islay- very undeveloped and with only around 100 residents.

Very comfortable stay. Thank you. Breakfast was excellent. The cooked breakfast served hot on hot plates. Easy to do but often doesn't happen. Understandable that no dogs in house but not ideal as we (unexpectedly) had a dog with us. We prefer a bath but shower very adequate.Room very comfortable. A lovely place to stay.

Tips:

We enjoyed the antiquities esp. Lord of the Isles sites. The beaches are varied and wonderful and some great walks. Very good for bird watchers (hen harriers, waders). RSPB sites well managed.

Owner Response:

Thank you for taking time to write your review for your stay with Graeme and I at our Five Star Gold bed and breakfast Glenegedale house on Islay. We are so glad you enjoyed our service and cleanliness. You are right as per our website and all listings we do not allow dogs to stay in Glenegedale House. We do however have a self catering cottage where we welcome dogs by prearrangement. As you mentioned we did not know you had a dog travelling with you until you asked just days before your stay where was the best place for dog grooming on the island of Islay. At the time of booking you mentioned you would prefer a bath and we explained that we do not have baths instead we have double showers in the en suites of each room. We also suggested an alternative property that sounded like it would suit your needs better. We are so glad however you enjoyed your stay with us and the fruit, porridge, baking and cooked breakfast each morning along side the charcuterie and cheese platter you enjoyed with some soft drinks as you choose not to use our wine list or indeed the 100 scottish gins and whisky list in the evenings. We source these all from the most amazing suppliers in Scotland and are so incredibly proud of what we do here to make all our guests have the perfect stay. It was lovely to chat with you and help plan your day out with you and help you find the very best bits of Islay.

Everything about Glengedale House exceeds expectations: the rooms are lovely and clean and full of light; the food is excellent and nourishing (and overgenerous); the advice and help from Emma and Graham is attentive and helpful. I only wish I had more time to spend there.

Tips:

Ask Emma and Graham for guidance on Islay nature: they gave us an excellent set of plans for how to spend our limited time that was extremely attentive to our interests. We loved distillery tours at Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and tasting at Bruichladdie. The Islay Woolen Mill is also a gem of local craft work.

Very friendly, informative, personal and just a lovely experience. Great attention to detail from saying you can get fresh milk in your room and delicious breakfast. Special porridge with local whisky. Stewed and fresh fruits difficult to choose from. My favourite was the plums. Muffins which we took away were just absolutely delicious, would love the recipe but could also be due to the newly laid eggs!

Tips:

The seafood platter was decadent and delicious, just amazing, never had anything like it before. The beaches around Islay are Incredible and even on hot sunny day not busy, Machine, Saligo and the Big Strand worth looking at. Mull of Or I teresting, wonderful wild flowers and wildlife. Are have point and beaches worth the effort to see too. Hard to find cake and coffee but distilleries and Islay House all tasty. Distilleries I am sure worth visiting, went to Cail Ila but it only open at 1pm due to refurbishment. 5 tastes of cask whisky, need designated driver! Very informative. After our visit here in June 2019 we learned that Glenegedale House is a very special place. Graeme and Emma run it with the utmost care! Warm and welcoming, you will feel at home not long after you step through the door. The preparation and presentation of breakfast is wonderful and a perfect way to start your day. Dining on an amazing and delicious morning meal while gazing out of the windows at the views of the sheep meadow, across to the airport, the Atlantic, and on a clear day Ireland! Do not pass on the porridge, and prepare it exactly as Emma tells you! The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, perfect for retiring to for rest and relaxation after a long day of exploring Islay. The parlors downstairs are very cozy and inviting, just the place to sit with a wee dram in the evening and plan your next day. Thank you Emma and Graeme for an unforgettable stay!

Tips:

Tap into Graeme and Emma's vast knowledge of the island, all you have to do is ask and they will provide perfect details of where to go, what to see and exactly how to get there. Visit the bookshelf in the parlor for an extensive collection of maps, guidebooks and more! You can take them with you for the day. They will also make recommendations on where to dine and are more than happy to make reservations for dinner at any of the many great restaurants. There is so much to see and do but not miss the Mull of Oa and the walk to the American Monument for breathtaking views. Visit Finlaggan, Loch Gruinart, Kildalton Cross and of course one or more of the many distilleries!

Hosts were absolutely lovely and considerate, eager to please, offer advice, and professional. We quite enjoyed our stay, breakfast was outstanding, location was convenient for bus, small island airport, east to drive to If arriving by ferry. Our room was comfortable, well appointed, clean, and included en suite bathroom.

Tips:

If like us you’re visiting distilleries but don’t want to drive, there is a bus stop literally on the edge on the property. The hosts have great local knowledge and were more than happy to make suggestions and provide info. The Laphroaig tour/distillery was by far the best of the big three near Port Ellen. Wifi/network connectivity can be an issue, but that’s can be an issue for the entire island, not just this location. Plan ahead and you’ll be great, otherwise just be patient and you’ll still get what you need.

The hosts were wonderful, friendly and accommodating. The property was clean. It felt like I was staying in a friend’s house, not a hotel. A friend who just happens to cool an amazing breakfast every morning! At first I didn’t understand why they needed to know when I was checking in, but now I realize it’s because transportation around the island is limited and they were just looking out for my well-being. Thanks so much Graeme and Emma! I will definitely stay with you again!

Tips:

The property is right next to the Islay Airport bus stop. That’s important because there is nothing else around except beautiful nature. So if you want to eat out or get groceries you’ll have to plan for it because the location is smack in the middle of Bowmore and Port Ellen. But as an escape, it’s pretty great. Islay is great for bird and wildlife watching. In our two days we had the expected large flocks of geese but also golden eagles and many other species. We saw seals, deer and an otter.

Graeme and Emma are fantastic hosts. I travel constantly and stay in accommodation all over the UK, the Glenegdale is the best. You receive 5-star treatment from the moment you contact the guest house until the moment you leave. The rooms are large, comfy and meticulously clean. The breakfast is to die for, I normally go for the traditional Scottish, however, whatever your choice your needs will be met. If you are visiting Islay, you will not be disappointed with your stay in the Glenegdale. Tommy

Tips:

You will require transport or hire car for evening meals. Graeme and Emma are only too happy to assist with these arrangements.

----- Clean and beautifully decorated place with a wonderful location right next to the sea, quite close to the ferry (Port Ellen) and the airport. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Also food was delicious (I really recommend taking the breakfast). On top of other things the room was nice and warm, which is not always the case when staying in Scotland. Definitely going to visit this place again!

Graeme and Emma could not be more accommodating or helpful and made our stay on Islay even more special. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is delicious - it's the first time we've had whisky on our porridge, and it won't be the last! With two options for a hot breakfast, freshly-baked muffins and a huge selection of fresh fruit, what more could you ask for? The guest house is conveniently located opposite the airport (though there is no noise from the infrequent planes) and there is a bus stop right outside. We couldn't ask for more. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We had the most wonderful few days at Glenegedale House - a more perfect place to stay is hard to imagine. We were made to feel so welcome by Graeme and Emma - the most wonderful hosts; always available but never intrusive. The breakfasts were totally scrumptious and so generous. The house is absolutely beautiful and our room was gorgeous; everywhere was spotless and so thoughtfully decorated with comfortable rooms for guests to use. Plenty of piping hot water, soft towels and lovely toiletries. Islay is beautiful and our stay was well and truly topped off by staying at Glenegedale House - we shall return. Many thanks.

Tips:

The Islay Hotel in Port Ellen was great for supper as was the hotel in Port Charlotte. The Peatzeria in Bowmore was good and the Ardbeg Distillery cafe was also delicious. The Oa was magnificent and the lifeboat at Port Askaig was great. We loved the variety of lighthouses and wonderful expanses of sandy beaches.

Tips:

Laphroaig Water to Whisky tour was incredible, but book in advance. The three distilleries walk and tours of the others are also well worth it (you’re in Islay after all!). But a definite must-do is to have your porridge at Glenegedale House “the Scottish way”. Just ask!

Communication with Emma & Graeme before arrival excellent. we were greeted by Graeme & Emma, Pot of fresh Coffee, Tea & Home Made Raspberry Cake, incredible, this hospitality continued throughout our stay. The location's great, 3 or 4 flights at the A/P across the Road (excellent if you fly in), it was so tranquil & quiet. Communal lounges are very comfortable & homely, we made good use of them getting to know fellow guests. Rooms are very comfortable, all with different views of the Island. Every area of Glenegedale House was immaculately, my Wife is very house proud, she felt so comfortable in this lovely welcoming clean home away from home. A spaciouse Dinning area but still cosy enough to enjoy other Guests company if desired, we meet a lovely couple on the first night at pre Dinner Drinks which made our stay even more pleasurable. We asked if we could Dinner at the House, bear in mind this is a B&B, we'd heard mention of a set meal, cold spread of locally produced delights, as we say, 'Ifits, if its in the Fridge you can have it'. We were served with a cold spread of amazing Food, Hot Smoked & Smoked Salmon, Pheasant & Venison Pie, various Cured Meats, three Cheeses & Basket of Home Baked Bread, fantastic & incredible don't do it justice. Breakfast consisted of more excellently prepared local Foods (Eggs from the Family Chickens), Porridge, Brown Sugar, Whisky & Cream, 22 different Fruits both fresh & in Dressings, plus Cereal, Yoguart etc. We would recommend staying here without any hesitation what soever! Thank you both so much!

Tips:

Stay longer, Drive and Walk to see as much as you can of Islay and Dura, don't forget to Wave to other Road users, especially if they pull over for you on tight Roads. Visit at least one distillery and take home some local Spirit and hospitality, and I don't just mean the Drink.

Such an amazing B&B! We stayed at 2 other B&Bs on our trip to Scotland and this one was my favorite. The breakfast was really delicious and the views from our room were outstanding. The little airport is fun to watch too. We slept with our windows open and enjoyed listening to the sheep so much that we had trouble sleeping in other accommodations because we missed the sounds of the sheep! If you’re looking for a delicious and relaxing evening meal, ask Emma about doing a stave meal one evening. The food is Devine and was our favorite dinner during our entire stay on Islay - do this especially if you’re having trouble getting your summer dinner reservations! With gracious hosts and an easy drive to every distillery on Islay, we cannot recommend this bed and breakfast enough.

Tips:

Wearhouse demo at Lagavulin, the ArdBIG Tour, the American Monument to enjoy the views (a bit of hike so wear very comfortable clothes and shoes), go to Bunnahabhain (even if you don’t visit the distillery the views of the Isle of Sound and Paps of Jura are worth it), must go see Kidalton Cross (the history is phenomenal and the drive is pretty)

The house is really well presented with plush, comfortable furnishings in the lounge areas and crisp linen table cloths in the dining room with views out to the sea. The rooms are very clean and well appointed. The stave plate is a unique presentation of ethically sourced meat, fish and cheese and is available to pre book for dinner, it is delicious. Breakfast is fabulous with enormous choice. Graeme and Emma clearly work very hard to ensure every guest has a special stay.

Tips:

Hire a car. I pre booked to collect from the airport on arrival. There is so much to see and a car is the best way to do that. Take a trip to the monument at the Mull of Oa. It’s an easy walk of about a mile in each direction from the car park. Stunning monument equalled by the coastline views. There are stunning beaches all around the island. Kildalton Cross is worth a visit as is the museum of Islay life in Port Charlotte, not forgetting the distilleries! Food at the Islay hotel is good.

Graeme and Emma are the epitome of wonderful hosts: friendly, helpful, conscientious, genuine folks. The House is very well appointed with many thoughtful amenities that probably reflect the hotel management background of the hosts. The breakfast has deservedly won awards since it includes a buffet with a huge number of fruit options (how can they get that on Islay?) and the hot breakfasts are superb with a freshly made pastry and home made bread on the side. We had one dinner when we arrived late one night and it also was delicious. We were amazed that this couple does everything themselves, with a smile! We would love to have stayed longer just to get to know them better. Initially, I was concerned since it is near the airport but the planes only fly twice per day so they do not disturb sleep. The bedroom and bathroom were highly comfortable and there are several sitting rooms downstairs stocked with many books, maps, whisky and hiking advice, etc. I can not recommend a guest house more highly.

Tips:

The hike to the American Monument was really special. Caution for those with younger or not very heavy adults since the wind was dangerously strong! We enjoyed the Islay Hotel in Port Ellen for a low key dinner. Of course, the distilleries are fabulous with Laphroag and Lagavulin being our favorite tours and tastings!

The house is beautiful. Rooms are cozy and warm. Very elegant. Perfect place to relax. The Staff/Owners Emma and her family were just wonderfully friendly, jovial and extremely supportive and helpful. Special mention should be made about the breakfast. It's amazing and the porridge is spectacular.

Tips:

We only stayed two days but I would recommend to do the trail of the three distilleries on foot. It's so peaceful.

The finest guest house that we have stayed in ever! Considering its location, the range of menu at breakfast was almost miraculous. Excellent cuisine, perfect hosts, immaculately furnished and exceptionally comfortable. It fully deserves all the accolades heaped upon it.

Tips:

Bistro in Port Ellen was very good - Hotel less so for evening meals. Good new pizza place in Bowmore has food at sensible prices and a good atmosphere. Distilleries are legendary but recommend the RSPB reserve at Gruinart; the Isaly Museum at Port Charlotte and the church at Kilchoman for insightful experiences.

Absolutely loved everything about our stay. It was clear the amount of care that had been put into the stylish furnishings to create a wonderful ambience. Everything was spotlessly clean, our bathroom shone because it was so clean. Our bedroom was very comfortable, especially the beds. I liked the information pack it contained too. Breakfast was generous and offerred a super spread of different foods. I especially liked the home made touches. Emma and Graeme both made us feel very welcome, gave us good suggestions and helped us by booking a taxi.

Tips:

We enjoyed the Bowmore distillery trip, the museum of Islay life and Finlaggan. We had a very good meal at the Harbour Inn. The warden at the RSPB reserve at Loch Gruinart gave very good suggestiions of where to find different birds, including the chough.

Graham and Emma were the most wonderful hosts. We felt immediately at home, and our room was so very comfortable that it was the best two night's sleep during our travels to Scotland. The bed and bedding felt luxurious. The room was extremely well appointed, with every attention to detail. Graham and Emma both participated in preparing the most delicious breakfast that was beautifully served with a very complete table setting. Emma set out the most beautiful display of fruit - both cooked and fresh - in the breakfast room, followed by a choice of full breakfast, deliciously prepared! The Glenegedale House was preferable to any hotel experience we have ever had. Graham and Emma are warm, gracious people with a beautiful B&B that is more like an inn, in a beautiful setting that is well located to anything you would like to do on the Isle. The experience was truly memorable and very special.

Tips:

We took the Water to Whiskey Experience tour at Laphroaig - highly recommend! We also had dinner at the Port Charlotte hotel which was wonderful and memorable, as well.

6th July 2016:

This is a great fine, a welcoming and comfortable B&B with lots of lovely surprises. From afternoon tea to a sum pious breakfast which you need to leave room for and not rush!

Tips:

Emma and Graham are able to give lots of advice about places to eat and things to do, as well as help arrange. The B&B is not located in a town or village so you will need to travel for dinner, but can get a taxi.

1st April 2016:

Graeme and Emma are such a lovely couple and their guesthouse is absolutely gorgeous! My friend Joanna and I came earlier than our arrival time, but were still checked in when they came home and even offered tea and cake upon arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Islay and wouldn't hesitate to come back!

Tips:

We were originally in Islay to do a whisky tour of the Lagavulin distillery, but were happy to discover so many other beautiful scenic gems on the island! We'd definitely recommend doing some exploring! We loved visiting the Islay Old Woolen Mill run by Mr. Gordon Covell who gave us a little tour and sells gorgeous lambswool scarves, blankets, throws, caps, and jackets! We also enjoyed stopping by the farmlands that buttress the rocky beaches and going on spontaneous hikes. Island life is easy to get used to!
