4th November 2024:
Glenegedale House feels like home. I've been fortunate to travel quite a bit, throughout the US and UK especially, and there is nowhere else I'd rather stay than here with Graeme and Emma. No one will work harder to make sure you have an incredible visit to Islay--helping with dinner arrangements, suggesting sites to visit, recommending the best distillery tours, and more. My wife and I stayed with them in May 2023, but only for one night, which was not enough, so we were just back again for four more in October 2024. It is not an exaggeration to say that we travelled back to Scotland so soon in large part for the breakfast at Glenegedale House. The porridge is life-affirming. You will not regret booking a visit to Islay, and in particular, a stay at Glenegedale House. We can't wait to be back there again.
Tips:Get dinner at Glenegedale House as many nights as it is offered during your stay. Take advantage of Emma's comprehensive knowledge of Islay and her seemingly endless supply of connections and resources. Do not pass on the porridge at breakfast. Do not ask for just a small bowl of porridge.

Exceptional hospitality!! Exceptional food! Exceptional knowledge of the area. I believe Emma knows everyone on the island. She saved us when we had an unexpected driver issue. You simply must stay at the Glenegedale House or miss a lifetime experience.
Tips:If I had to change anything, I would take the ferry rather than fly. Make sure your driver is arranged to drive in the evening.

From warm welcome with cup of tea and home made cake through outstanding dinner created from locally sourced ingredients, comfortable bed, and amazing breakfast with not a prepacked cereal in sight, Emma and Graeme's Glenegadale House lived up to our high expectations.
Tips:Allow plenty of time for a relaxed breakfast to savour all the home preserved fruits and perhaps the porridge with a tot of Laphroaig on top.

They were also very kind and helpful with everything we asked of them. When you wake up in the morning you will be treated to a 5⭐️ breakfast! So delicious! Thank you Graeme and Emma for our stay with you and the memories we now have of your lovely property.
Tips:Do not look elsewhere! You will not regret staying at this amazing property. You will love it! If you are from the USA, be sure to go to the American monument on the island. It will touch your hearts. We hope you enjoy Isle of Islay as much as we did!

Loved staying at Glenegedale House. The proprietors were lovely and ensured we enjoyed our stay. The food they offered for breakfast was top notch. An absolutely incredible experience. A gorgeous guest house, with old world charm and the most welcoming and lovely hosts. This felt like stepping back in time with the level of service, the exquisite food and the convivial atmosphere, being able to chat with other guests (if you wanted to) with a few drinks in the lounge after dinner. The food is showstopping, and everything is prepared fresh and with love. Never had a better muffin or indeed porridge (with a secret ingredient)! The seafood was caught fresh that day and dinner was a truly special experience. Exemplary on every level, thank you so much to Emma and Graeme for embodying the true spirit of hospitality. Also greatly appreciated the comprehensive advice and recommendations on local activities.
Tips:Do not hesitate to request the seafood platter (in advance). I have never had a seafood meal this fresh and combined with the home baked breads and oatcakes, it was just sensational.

Absolutely the best stay I have had in years, I travel rather extensively and I enjoyed my time at Glenegedale more than I have in a long time. Thank you for putting up with all the questions, the attention to detail, the amazing food, the amazing location, all the helpful insights. We were overwhelmed with just the pleasure of staying at the location.
Tips:The location is five minutes away from the airport, but is absolutely quiet. You can pick up the car at the airport or you can catch the bus as it comes through. You must have the resplendent breakfast everyday and definitely stay for the dinners. They are fantastic and worth every penny. They have a great list of drinks / whiskeys / wines and can help you select something nice. It was enjoyable chatting with other travelers whilst sipping on something. This place is a required stay, between its location, food, hospitality, food, appointments, food, drinks, and lastly, the outstanding food. Don’t forget the food … I would move in if allowed. Stay here on Islay before you think of another location. Be courteous to your hosts they work their fingers to the bone maintaining the gorgeous facility and accommodating all of us travelers. They are the best. Keep in mind it is just the two of them working 24/7 for you and communicate your needs but also be responsible for yourself and your actions on property. We can not express our happiness enough with finding and staying with them on Islay.

This is the best B&B I’ve ever stayed in. Indeed the quality of food, accommodation and service surpasses many 5 star hotels I’ve stayed in. I’ve never had a breakfast of such a high quality in the UK ever. Dinners were fabulous too.
Tips:The location of the property is within walking distance of the airport so no need to hire a car. Taxis are easily available on the island. Overall Glenegedale offers a quiet place to relax, eat and sleep well far from the madness of the world. We loved our stay at Glenegedale House and meeting the owners Emma and Graeme. They provided us with a wonderful place to stay and great food and drinks to enjoy. They helped me plan out our vacation while on Islay even before we got there and then helped sort out sone other interests when we arrived. The seafood dinner that we had was absolutely amazing!!!
Tips:Stay at Glenegedale House or at least plan to have a meal here. A car is really necessary to get around the island and see what each end has to offer. Reserve at each place you want to eat at for dinner, as they book up quickly. Make sure to check the ferry schedule often, as it will change or cancel a ferry with very little notice.

We spent three nights at Glenegedale House in July 2024. Emma and Graeme were engaging hosts who made every effort to make our stay memorable. They did so by: - Creating friendly environment to chat and have a drink with them and other guests; - Sharing their experiences in living on Islay; - Providing information to help us explore Islay; - Excellent meals that emphasized local foods; - Proactive communications when our flight was canceled and we came to Islay by taxi/ferry; and - Comfortable and cozy room. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rob and Ruth

Glenegedale House on the stunning isle of Islay is an absolute gem that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and felt instantly at home. The owners, Emma and Graeme, are the most gracious hosts, always ready with a friendly smile and eager to ensure their guests have a wonderful stay. The location of Glenegedale House is perfect, situated centrally on the island, making it an ideal base for exploring all that Islay has to offer. Whether you're interested in visiting the renowned whisky distilleries, hiking through the breathtaking landscapes, or simply relaxing on the beautiful beaches, Glenegedale House is conveniently located to suit all your needs. The accommodations are top-notch, with beautifully appointed rooms that are both comfortable and stylish. The bed was comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day of exploring the island. One of the highlights of my stay at Glenegedale House was the amazing food. Graeme is a fantastic chef who takes pride in using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create culinary delights that showcase the best of Islay's produce. The hearty breakfasts were a masterpiece that left me eagerly anticipating the next meal.

Our stay was a delightful experience, from beginning to end. Glenegedale House is run with superb attention to details, from the flowers in the foyer, to the set up of our breakfast and dinner table, and the lovely country house atmosphere in the common areas. The room we booked was spacious and beautifully decorated. The food is a chapter apart: delicious and served in a setting that makes you want to stay until later, with the addition of a wonderful soundtrack. It was a pleasure to chat with Emma (when she could spare a few minutes). She knows a lot about the island, and we enjoyed hearing about it. A return visit to Glenegedale and it more than lived up to our memories. Graeme and Emma are perfect hosts; the warmth of their welcome is matched by faultless hospitality. Attention to detail was obvious in all aspects of our stay : the water flask and cups on the bedroom were both elegant and practical; delicious chocolates provide a pre-sleep treat following a splendid dinner. Breakfast is a highlight with Graeme’s special porridge (if you know, you know) laced with Laphroaig providing a good base for sampling Islay’s whiskies. There is a range of imaginatively spiced fruit compotes. The quality of produce in the cooked elements of the breakfast is obvious. A stay at Glenegedale House is a wonderful experience through Graeme and Emma’s ability to combine a consummately professional approach with a knack of making guests feel at home, comfortable and relaxed from the moment of arrival. We can’t wait to return -thank you!
Tips:Have the porridge!

More than a week since our arrival at Glenegedale House - time flies when you are having fun. From the lovely surprise welcome of chocolate brownies and coffee, when our flight landed to the seamless breakfast service to accommodate our early departure four days later, we were superbly looked after. Our room was perfectly clean and thoughtfully decorated (lovely thistle wallpaper) which good storage space to accommodate clothes for all weathers, even though we didn't need the adverse weather gear we had packed. The dinner menu supplied by Emma a few days before our arrived was very tempting for each night, but as we wanted to explore the island and other eating options, we only chose one night. The meal was outstanding. Really well presented, fabulously cooked and just a little too much - in a good way. Choices over the week ranged from sea bass to local venison, with varied sides. I'd have loved to have eaten on other evenings really. The aromas every evening were memorable. Pre dinner drinks are served in the lounge and a very extensive list is available. We tried our best and sampled local beer, gin and of course whisky. We also had some French wines. Breakfast is lovely - exciting actually. Graeme/Emma are great hosts - enjoy
Tips:Room Two has a good view of the Atlantic Ocean, good sized shower and room for all your 'stuff'. If you need a taxi for evenings out and know when/where you are going, book early. A few of the companies we tried were fully booked. The airport is only a five minute walk from Glenegedale House, so you won't need your hire car on the morning of your departure, if you can manage your luggage. Local buses were good for avoiding any drink/drive issues when you fancy the 'three distilleries path'. This is a welcoming and, we found, informal B&B/Guest House, so my final tip is - relax and let Graeme and Emma spoil you.

Best bed and breakfast at which I have stayed. Really a mini hotel given that a magnificent dinner is available every evening except Sunday. Such a personal service in a comfortable house.
Tips:Book early since Glenegedale is in such great demand. Would not normally recommend a facility that is across the road from an airport but we were never aware of the two incoming and outgoing flights a day. I would even consider flying to Islay just to stay here for a few days! That said, you probably need a car (or bike if brave) to travel from the ferry and to explore wonderful Islay. Do not turn down dinner and the seafood platter must is compulsory on one evening if it is available!

Nestled between Port Ellen and Bowmore on the Isle of Islay, Glenegedale House is a lovely B&B set within a beautifully maintained old building. With just four rooms, the atmosphere is intimate and inviting. Each stay feels personalized and exclusive, adding to the charm that draws us back year over year - 2025 has already been booked! Owners Emma and Graeme strike the perfect balance between luxury accommodation and a family-style welcome. It's a place where you are pampered yet completely at ease—a rare find in the world of travel. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the food. Every morning, we are treated to a fantastic spread of freshly made dishes with local ingredients taking center stage. Several nights a week, the option to partake in a three-course dinner is available, and it is an experience not to be missed. The common area in the basement, with its plush sofas and tasteful decor, provides a delightful space to relax and mingle with other guests, often leading to interesting conversations over a G&T or Whisky from the extensive drinks menu. Here's to feeling at home while being pampered in true luxury!
Tips:Keep in mind that Islay is a small, remote island and Glenegedale House a small, family-owned B&B. You can expect perfect hospitality, but no 24/7 concierge or services only large hotel chains can provide.

We have a list of new places to visit but Glenegedale arrests that, for we keep going back and the list will just have to wait.

We recently stayed at Glenegedale House and couldn’t have been happier with our experience. From the moment we arrived from Australia, the hosts were incredibly welcoming, offering detailed recommendations and tips that enhanced our visit. The room was beautifully appointed, featuring plush linens and soft towels, ensuring a comfortable stay. The food was a standout, with the seafood platter being particularly memorable. It was served with an interesting history of each item and details on how it was prepared, adding a unique touch to our dining experience. The hosts’ recommendations for gin and whiskey were spot on, complementing our evenings spent playing games in the cosy parlour. The setting was picturesque, complete with stunning ocean views and delightful sightings of newborn lambs. This place combines the beauty of Islay with exceptional hospitality and fine dining, making it a must-visit destination. Highly recommended!
Tips:Make sure you ask Emma for gin recommendations and tips on where to go in Isaly - she is awesome!

Attention to dietary restrictions was very good, giving the guest confidence and ability to enjoy! Cannot recommend Glenegedale House highly enough!
Tips:Try the seafood platter! Not to be missed. Emma and Graeme know the fishermen and story behind each platter! The whiskey and gin selection, (with expert guidance provided), is also world class.....Enjoy!

A Master Class in 5 Star Scottish Hospitality From the delicious cakes on arrival to the pre dinner Islay Gin served in their beautiful drawing room - the very essence of Glenegedale House is about making your stay perfect. My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in April 2024 after booking based on the many glowing reviews found online. We had read about the amazing breakfast and expected something special. Well special doesn’t come close to the love and pure hard work Emma and Graeme put into their breakfasts. Home poached fruits served in crystal bowls, highly addictive granola made by Emma and then the most delicious cooked options. Including eggs from their hens and Scottish smoked salmon at its finest. The best breakfast I have ever eaten. Just brilliant. The evening meal cooked by this amazing couple is another triumph. Emma can tell you exactly who on the Island grew the vegetables and the names of the fishermen who caught your scallops!! 3 courses of delicious food cooked with love - fabulous wine list as well!! Emma and Graeme work so hard and both should be applauded for all they do for this magical Island. Whilst I could write lots more, the app doesn’t allow it!! In summary though a truly 5 star experience
Tips:If you can - contact Emma and Graeme before you travel as their knowledge of Islay is extensive and all the recommendations they gave us were just brilliant. Book any whisky tours/ boat trips in advance as they are very popular.

Sometimes you know about a place when you walk in. There’s a sixth sense that lets you know you’ll be happy, comfortable and relaxed. That’s how it felt during our entire stay. Perfectly positioned to explore and our room was gorgeous and we had a sublime sea view. We had dinner on our first night. It was perhaps one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. Great food, cooked well and served in style with warm service. Magical. But even better than dinner was breakfast. Perfect porridge. Dredges of brown sugar. Doused in cream and Laphroaig. Islay smoked salmon and eggs from their own flock. Haggis, black pudding and all the trimmings. Perfectly poached fruit. I’d eat that breakfast every day for the rest of my life and I’d be a very happy (and much rounder) man. If you’re a whisky lover, just bathe in what you’ll find: drams that you won’t see elsewhere, and even if you could you wouldn’t find a better place to enjoy them. But it’s not the things that make a place, it’s the people. Graeme and Emma’s hospitality heritage shone from beginning to end. We genuinely felt like we were at home during our entire stay. If you ever get a chance to visit, you have to stay here. Once wasn’t enough. We’re already thinking about coming back.

We traveled across Scotland for over 3 weeks, and Glenegedale was our favorite stay! Thank you, Emma and Graeme, for giving us the most beautiful memories that will last for our lifetimes. Your pre-arrival communications assured us our upcoming stay was in the best hands…and upon arriving, we were immediately impressed by your outstanding accommodations, the presentation and deliciousness of each meal, and your Islay insights for all our local day trips…simply, world class! Glenegedale House is such a cozy, inviting house, exceptionally well-appointed throughout, including the wonderful bedrooms that inspired us with a sense of tranquility. You are both excellent chefs and each meal was a culinary masterpiece. Thank you for incorporating fresh-caught seafood, other local foods, and Islay’s amber elixirs into an amazing experience. Your knowledge of Islay and your relationships across the island, also added to our visits to historic sites, distilleries, and craft shops. You’ve given us a much better appreciation for the island and the people of Islay. This was an extraordinary experience. We give Glenegedale House our highest recommendation and will definitely be back to see you as soon as possible.
Tips:Be prepared to enjoy a wonderful experience, where Glenegedale provides an Islay home away from home. Glenegedale will accentuate the stunning natural beauty of Islay, and Graham and Emma make each guest feel extra special. Graham has a special Islay porridge you must try. And, you’ll also want to see about getting the seafood platter that included scallops someone on Islay might dive for that day... Also, take advantage of their vast knowledge of all Islay has to offer. Their insights and recommendations paid big dividends for our day trips.

The house is a comfy and relaxed place to stay with really outstanding breakfasts and evening meals featuring local and regional produce, perfectly cooked and presented. Our bedroom and ensuite was compact - in a cosy farmhouse sort of way - with a good-sized comfortable bed. The location was perfect for us, mid-way between Port Ellen (Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg) and Bowmore, and just a short walk from airport arrivals across a slightly unusual airport feature - a cattle grid :). It must be the quietest, loveliest walk-from-the-airport accommodation in the world. We walked, taxied and bussed the island and were blessed with some great weather. Emma and Graeme were the perfect hosts, happy to share their local knowledge with us and make the most of our short stay. It's a family-run business and they must work pretty tirelessly in the background to make things this serene for guests. Many thanks! Michael and Julia
Tips:Our trip worked fine without a car - keep in mind there are no buses on Sundays, and a little notice works best when looking for a taxi, Mayfair this isn't :). If we were staying longer we'd have hired a car for a day or two to bring some other parts of the island into easier reach. The short Logan Air flight from / to Glasgow was a great way to get here, with some lovely views of the Firth of Clyde on the way home.

Words are not enough to describe how absolutely incredible our stay was at Glenegadale House! Emma went above and beyond to help us find transportation to Islay when there was an airline strike. On our arrival we were immediately welcomed like family and provided the yummiest home baked goods to take on our explorations of Islay. Do yourself a favor and get the fresh seafood dinner! This incredible feast is spectacularly prepared by Graeme, a master chef! And breakfast is a special treat. We felt like we were royalty for the entire stay as everything was the highest of quality. Our room was extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated like the rest of the house. Emma and Graeme are the best hosts and will be sure to make sure that you are well cared for during your stay. We were sad to leave and felt as if we had left family behind. It is no wonder how they have repeat guests.
Tips:Location is conveniently located across from the airport.

Emma & Graham are easy and consummate hosts who provide a unique and gracious experience on Islay. The rooms and sitting areas are individually decorated and very comfortable. The dining experience is exceptional and showcases the local produce. They provide a wealth of local knowledge and insights that is very helpful to the traveler. We would highly recommend Glenedgedale House as a place to stay on Islay.
Tips:Consider flying to Islay (rather than the drive and ferry) and rent a car on the island.

Emma & Graeme where fantastic attentive hosts who were great to talk with. Great stories of Island life. Food was delicious, especially the seafood platter which I totally recommend. Bedrooms were beautifully presented with outstanding decor. Breakfast really set you up for the day, with fruits, porridge and a full Island fry up. The communal rooms where fabulous and make you feel you have literally travelled from home to home. Be sure to ask to see the whiskey and gin room. I challenge you not to be impressed. I will 100% be visiting this absolute gem of a guest house. Well done Emma & Graeme absolutely first class!!!!

A beautiful house on a beautiful island. Our hosts Emma and Graeme are wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable about Islay. Our room was very comfortable and very well appointed. We were surprised that Emma and Graeme weren’t formally trained as chefs because the food they cooked and served was sublime. Beautifully cooked and stunningly presented using Islay products from families and companies they’ve dealt with for years. Their attention to detail in all aspects of our stay was amazing. Emma and Graeme are so helpful and knowledgeable about Islay. They were happy to recommend other places to visit and eat. They always suggested places to visit and walks to take in different areas. They responded quickly and easily about my eating requirements (diabetic) routinely supplying alternative options. The central location is great. It’s along from the quiet airport and on the main road from Bowmore to Port Ellen providing easy access whether initially flying in to Islay, using your own transport or using the island’s buses and taxis.
Tips:If, like us, this is your first visit to Islay, have a wonderful time and ask Emma and Graeme for help with your planning. They are very knowledgeable of their home and will suggest walks or places not to miss. If you are staying at Glenegedale we strongly recommend you take your evening meals there when available, as they are wonderful. If it’s not your first visit then you’ll know how beautiful Islay is! Tours of the distilleries are always busy so need to be booked but you can drop in for individual tastes at them all. Note that different distilleries close on different days so do plan your whisky tasting route around the island. And don’t forget the gins available and the new rum distillery.

Graeme and Emma really do go the extra mile to make guests feel happy and comfortable. We had dinner in on two of our nights and Emma recommended restaurants for the other evenings, even ringing round several places on our day of arrival till she managed to get us a reservation. The breakfast was amazing and really set you up for the day, with delicious, freshly baked muffins to take away if you wished. The Gin Menu was extremely comprehensive. Our room was spotless, the bed and bedding wonderful. We were blessed with sparkling sunshine for our stay (late September) and really connected with some of the other guests which added to our enjoyment. Unfortunately we didn’t see the Aurora Borealis but Emma explained that if they do put in an appearance, they try to ensure everyone sees the should they so wish, waking them up if necessary. Hopefully next time!
Tips:Don’t be put off by Glenegedale House’s location near the Airport. There are very few planes on a daily basis, you really don’t hear them and watching them occasionally coming in to land through the floor to ceiling dining room windows is something of interest. There are also beautiful sunsets from this spot on sunny days. Glenegedale is well located for the bus route to Port Ellen (minutes from the hotel) should you wish to visit one of the three main distilleries and have a dram or two!

We will definitely be back to stay with you in the future. Thank you again for an amazing stay and lots of happy memories.

Can we rate you a 10 star? Everything was near perfect from comfy, cozy beds ( wish you’d had a king size available!) to the delicious dinner. Adding whisky to oatmeal was a nice touch!! The friendly, profesional atmosphere was delightful. Next time,I’d like Sam Heughans (sp) bed? We hope we can return one day. Linda 🌵 Bill Pattison from AZ
Tips:Just do it - you’ll not regret one moment - except leaving! If there for their dinner presentation, be sure to attend. Their wine and drink menu is great. Parking is easy (and free) and wifi works very well. Forgot a book? The library has a fine selection. The host/ owners are local with plenty of local information about touring Islay, whisky , dining out, ferries and shopping knowledge. With vast hospitality experience, you will not find a more professionally run B&B on Islay- and we tried three prior! Some might say the stay is pricey but you certainly get what you pay for - and beyond. Even “Jamie” from Outlander has stayed there TWICE! We will return!!

Fantastic greeting, cake and tea on arrival nothing was too much trouble. Food was sublime and carry out bags provided for freshly baked muffins that couldn’t be managed at breakfast. Breakfast sets you up for the day and there is ample choice of local produce (the hens are just out of the back door). If you have chance to have either the fish or charcuterie and cheese platter take it, but beware you will feel full. That’s if you can finish it all. Emma and Graham are the perfect hosts. They know the Island and it’s people and will advise you on what would best suit you and your tastes. Whether it be a quiet beach or gin or whisky distillery. They have a vast selection of whiskies so you can try different distilleries you may not have been able to visit. There are a couple of beautiful lounges where you can enjoy a pre dinner drink or linger over coffee before heading to bed for a sound nights sleep. It may be near the airport, but it is not going to disturb you with its twice daily arrivals.
Tips:If you want to visit a specific distillery book it in advance as places are limited.

We had a wonderful stay at Glenegedale House. Emma and Graeme made us feel so welcome in their home. It is a beautiful house in a brilliant location with the most stunning views. Glenegedale House is elegant yet casual with warm hospitality and is conveniently located across the street from the local airport. Our flight arrived early in the morning far too early for check in. However, Emma and Graeme, the proprietors of Glenegedale House, welcomed us with a pot of fresh tea and warm home made muffins and offered to store our luggage for us while we visited the island for the day. They even made arrangements for a driver to take us around the island and suggested sites to see. When we returned late that afternoon, we were warmly greeted again and shown our beautiful room. Cocktails and/or wine are served between 6:00 and 6:30 with dinner at 7:00 pm. The extensive list of liquors and wines was very impressive. The dining room in which the meals are served is stunning with a huge window looking out on the front yard with a view of Laggan Bay. The delicious food served reflected the local bounty. After a great night's sleep on the very comfortable bed, we enjoyed breakfast which was also served in the dining room. The delicious breakfast offered is large enough so that we really didn't need lunch. The kind and generous hospitality offered by Emma and Graeme made Glenegedale House feel like a second home.
Tips:Order the seafood platter if it's offered during your stay. It's spectacular!

Honestly the hospitality made it feel like you were at home with family. The other guests were friendly and sociable all while maintaining respect for privacy. Not to mention their wealth of knowledge about Islay. Oh and did I forget to also remind you of their bar and whisky selection. Absolutely excellent in every way! Here's my full review from Trip Advisor: Graeme and Emma are truly amazing hosts! Prior to our arrival, we received personalized email communication with every detail we needed to plan for our stay. Emma was quick to respond to all my inquiries about our stay on Islay. Upon our arrival, Graeme greeted us, gave us the tour of the guest spaces, and showed us our room. We were then served tea (in silver and china) and AMAZING homemade brownies. We walked across the street to the beach for a lovely afternoon walking, collecting shells, etc. The following two days we explored the island (distilleries, Celtic cross, American monument, the woolen mill) via e-bikes (which I would highly recommend). Graeme and Emma provided loads of recommendations. Our room was charming, impeccably decorated, and very clean and inviting. Every detail had clearly been thought of. Dinner our first night was the most incredible seafood platter I've ever had (requested via email ahead the week before our arrival). Emma could name the person and time (that day!) the items on the platter were caught. It was hands down one of the best meals of my life (including Emma's delicious oatcakes). Breakfast options for both mornings were varied and delicious; I had the Scottish breakfast one morning and cheese platter the next and would highly recommend either. And don't skip Graeme's porridge! Our second night, was the one night per week they do not offer dinner to encourage guests to explore other local offerings; they provided many recommendations and offered to reserve us a table (for flexibility, we did not reserve a table but instead wandered into the Islay Inn in Port Ellen (one of Emma's recommendations) for a lovely dinner). Check out was seamless on our final morning. Upon leaving, Emma gave me her recipe and tips for her oatcakes! When (not if) we return to Islay, this will be our top choice for accommodations.
Tips:Distilleries (obviously) American Monument was incredible. Exploring the island on e-bikes was so much fun! Walking on the beach across the street from the house.

Staying at Glenegedale House is a must. The house is decorated to a high standard. The food is out of this world. The atmosphere is home from home. So comfortable. A real treat! Must do - Seafood Platter for a treat. And be a breakfast person - otherwise you’re really missing out! It’s very handy for the airport and the bus stops right outside. Otherwise, car is a good alternative.
Tips:Islay is fabulous for some time away. The island runs at its own pace but the welcome and hospitality are fantastic! Jura is a vibrant community with lots going on. The islanders on both Islay and Jura are forging ahead in innovation and growth. Things to try - Islay Tuk Tuk. See Jura. Lussa Gin. Bowmore. Islay Wines (Port Ellen) and Islay Ales. Jura Brewery pale ale. Lynne’s Labels in Bowmore. Sea Salt Bistro in Port Ellen. Buy Orsay Sea Salt. So much more than just whisky! Although the whisky is good too.

Emma and Graeme are fabulous hosts and catered for us exceptionally throughout our four day stay. Home baking, dinners and tremendous porridge (and associated fruits) AND a fantastic choice of cooked breakfasts (full Scottish was my favourite) all added to our enjoyment and satisfaction for a wonderful stay.
Tips:We drove (via ferries) to the Island and there is an airport directly opposite, an easy 5 minute walk across the road to Glenegedale House. I think defo need a car to get around and see all the sites. We travelled up and down the Island with ease (nothing too far or onerous) and there is plenty to see, history, Monuments AND many excellent Whisky Distilleries...

Graeme and Emma are phenomenal hosts. They were kind, thoughtful, and very helpful during our first visit to Islay. The accommodations and dining were all top-notch. The breakfast is out of this world, and we were so happy to treat ourselves to the amazing seafood platter. The location of Glenegedale was perfect for us, too, since the short walk over from the airport was convenient. I wished we could have stayed longer! I will not hesitate to recommend Glenegedale to my friends.
Tips:If you decide to stay at Glenegedale over a Wednesday night, be aware that dinner is not served in the dining room, and take-away (take-out) is not permitted in the house. Since we didn't bring a car with us to the island, this posed some challenges for us in coordinating transportation as the bus service stops early in the evening and taxis are expensive and also hard to come by if not pre-arranged. My advice is to make your dinner reservations before you arrive to help avoid losing out.

A stay at Glengedale House is like staying with wonderful, hospitable friends who can cook like a dream and just happen to live round the corner from some of the world’s best whisky distilleries! They also happen to have other witty, interesting, house-guests staying with them who share what they have been doing during the day with tips and advice on places to visit. The essentials: a comfortable bed and immaculately clean house get full marks. But Glengedale House is so much more than that. Graeme and Emma make staying there a really special experience and they create a really wonderful, welcoming, atmosphere. Be warned — you will come away with lifestyle envy, as they show a real passion for what they do. You will begin to wonder if you could open a B&B on a Scottish island. And then you will realise just how much hard work they put in behind the scenes (drawing on their years of experience in hospitality) to make it look effortless. You will likely conclude that you are better leaving it to them as the experts, and will just book your next stay with them! Glengedale House is just totally fabulous and will probably spoil all your future B&B stays. Nowhere else can compare!

Great stay, wonderful food and service beyond compare. If you have a chance to go, stay here. This part of our trip to Scotland was by far the highlight, Islay and its people are the best anyone could ask for as far as seeing what Scotland is all about. Emma and family treated us like royalty, catering to our every need and want with plenty of smiles and laughter. Do not miss the porridge. Terry and Debie Brocksmith
Tips:Take the island tour with Islay Taxi, Dave was the best, showed us parts of the island we would never have seen shoutout him.

We had an absolutely incredible time at Glenegedale House during Feis Ile. Emma and Graeme were such welcoming hosts. Everything about our stay was perfect - the hospitality, the delicious food, the advice for places to visit, the restaurants Emma helped us book. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful and comfortable place to stay. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here and can't wait to return soon!
Tips:Indulge in some food at the Islay Hotel in Port Ellen and book a ride home on the Islay Tuk Tuk. If you're a swimmer, ask Emma for some recommendations - she knows which beaches are suitable!

My wife and I happened upon the Glenegedale House a few years back, by luck. It was an absolutely lovely stay, with the warmest two people in the world. This time around we were luck enough to secure a room during the whiskey festival. This was by luck (a cancellation). Should you want to sray here during the festival, schedule well in advance. The house and rooms are beyond beautiful. The location is quite central. It's also right across from the airport so getting there is a breeze. But don't worry, there's not a bit of noise from it. The breakfasts they serve cannot be beat. The quality, freshness and taste of all their food is absolutely amazing. Make sure to order the porridge (with a side of Laphroaig). I really couldn't say enough kind things about Graeme and Emma or how wonderful a space they provide. If you happen to be on the island and are in need of lodgings, it would be difficult to beat Glenegedale House. Thank you!!!!

This was our second visit to Islay, not just because of the whiskies but because of our last stay at Glenegedale and this stay makes us want to come back for more. The warmth and humour of both Emma and Graeme, the lovely interior and most importantly the breakfasts. Graeme’s porridge with all the trimmings, a must try. I tried 4 of the options this time and all were delicious and beautifully presented. This time we had dinner twice, again taste and presentation beautiful. The extras such as arrival tea and wedge of cake add to the stay. Amazing place to stay.
Tips:Try all the distilleries! Over 30 walks to try. And Cullen Skink at Ardbeg, from the food truck or even better at Kilchoman with a Sticky Toffee pudding to follow. We enjoyed the tastings at Laphroig ( nice touch of free coffee ) and Bunnahabhain the most although all the distilleries have friendly, engaging and knowledgeable staff. Some will offer a free dram.

Emma and Graeme’s guesthouse is a little gem! It’s worth visiting Islay just to stay here. I am not a whisky fan but my partner is and we both had an incredible stay on the island. Breakfast at Glenegedale House is quite an experience as is the 3 course dinner - all absolutely delicious. Huge portions! The wine list, gin list and whisky list (of course!) is also fabulous in the guesthouse. The decor is stunning and it’s a beautiful place to get a break away to live a life and see scenery which is so different from mainland Scotland. Would love to go back and can’t recommend this guesthouse highly enough. Thank you Emma and Graeme!

Such a wonderful stay with such gracious hosts. Emma and Graeme greeted us in the afternoon with coffee and cakes and booked us a reservation at a local pub as they were not providing supper on the night we stayed. Our room was marvelous; quiet and comfortable. The breakfast seemed neverending. We just finished one course and Emma was bringing out another! Highly recommend putting some scotch in your porridge. Thanks again to Graeme and Emma for such a wonderful stay and for helping us out with travel arrangements. We'll recommend Glenegedale House to anyone we know visiting Islay; doesn't hurt it's a 10 minute drive to three different distilleries either!

I don't know why you would stay anywhere else on Islay. Glenegedale House is a gorgeous place to stay - from the quality of the linen and the beautifully decorated rooms to the exceptional breakfasts and expertly crafted drinks next to the fire in the evening - it makes a trip to this very special place even more special. I enjoyed my delicious vegan breakfasts just as much as my bacon-loving relatives - everything is homemade and superb quality. Graeme and Emma are consummate hosts, nothing is too much trouble but they do it with such grace and good humour, you feel like you are staying with friends. It was a family treat after a long two years and we felt richly spoiled by the experience.
Tips:Graeme and Emma can give great advice on where to go based on what you like to do. Islay boasts spectacular beaches - Machir Bay, Saligo Bay and Claggain Bay were our favourites. The RSPB Reserve at Gruinart Loch is fabulous - go to Ardnave for the most beautiful sand dunes to a stunning coastline. The stunning views and warm welcome at Bunnahabhain Distillery is well worth the visit. The three distillery walk from Port Ellen is lovely. We loved the tour of Kilchoman Distillery where you can see the process from grain to glass. Even if you don't enjoy it's favourite export, the places and people of Islay will mean that you want to return...and to Glengedale House!

22nd February 2022:
It is easy to forget that Glenegedale is a B&B Guest House as the service delivered by both Emma and Graeme is that of one of the finest hotels we have ever stayed in. The thoughtfulness, kindness and generosity of both was so special and is such a rarity. It is they who make this fabulous stay so perfect and so magical. Personal touches such as thoughtful trays of tea and coffee in front of the fire to welcome us home during a stormy evening, quietly noting the way we both preferred our drinks and delivering thus. They have the talent to make everything so special and so much thought goes into everything they do. Always on hand to offer advice, making calls to help us with our journey, resolving issues for us with our transport and just going above and beyond. As with all aspects of Glenegedale, this first-class personalised service is on a par with, if not better, than the personal concierge services you would find in a superior 5 star hotel. There was no fuss, no noise, we were left in peace when we needed to be and yet the hosts were available when we needed help or a lovely chat with them. They have those rare gifts of making everyone feel cared for and create such a natural easy, cosy relaxing atmosphere which I know is a result of their enormous hard work behind the scenes. The most helpful, kind, thoughtful hosts we have ever known who do everything with a smile, this was a five star experience from start to finish and we do travel a great deal. We cannot recommend this beautiful place and its hosts more highly.
Tips:We dined each night at Glenegedale which we couldn't recommend more highly - beautiful home cooked locally sourced food which was of 5 star restaurant quality in both taste and presentation including scallops hand dived just 2 hours earlier and sea salt from around the corner. We visited Laphroig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg distilleries which were fantastic, travelled around the island to the coastal areas, the woollen mill, the craft shop. We saw deer, seals and the landscape was stunning. It is the most friendly island you could come across - everybody waved, smiled and helped us and we felt so warmly welcome. Emma and Graeme told us stories and histories about the area and helped us to plan our days. Glenegedale and its home, Islay, radiate a genuine warmth which touches your heart; it will remain in our hearts forever.

This was our first time at Glenegedale House and boy it didn’t disappoint. Emma and Graeme are just delightful hosts, so friendly and welcoming. The tea, coffee and freshly baked goods on arrival is such a lovely touch. We stayed for 3 nights and had dinner on 2 occasions. The seafood platter was absolutely amazing, lobster landed at 5pm and on the plate by 7pm, can’t ask for fresher than that. The food at breakfast and dinner was out of this world. Our room was lovely and very comfortable. Some previous reviews comment on the pride Emma and Graeme take in what they do for their guests and its so true. They want everyone to enjoy their stay with them and their stay on Islay and will fully support and recommend other businesses on the island. On the COVID front, we both felt very safe staying at Glenegedale. Masks were worn around the building and everything is spotless. We enjoyed it so much we have booked stay again next year. Thanks very much to you both. Xx
Tips:We visited a few of the distilleries and they didn’t disappoint. We also went to see Audrey at Islay Gin in Bridgend, highly recommend. We also went to see the American Monument at Mull of Oa. It’s a bit of a hike to get there but to read about what had happened and how the people of Islay helped was beautiful. The views are also stunning. The hosts at Glenegedale House - Graeme and Emma - are very friendly and professional, also exceptional cooks too! The breakfasts were lovely and the evening meals we opted for were very memorable, especially the seafood platter! We enjoyed our stay with them, they are very knowledgeable about Islay and all it has to offer but also very sociable which gives their accommodation a unique feel.
Tips:Glenegedale is close to Islay Airport and on the main road between Bowmore and Port Ellen. It is well located for exploring the island, its beaches and its distilleries

Thank you Emma and Graeme for a great week. We really enjoyed the facilities and were impressed with how thoughtful everything had been prepared. We plan to return to the island and will definitely be looking to stay at Glenegedale House again.
Tips:We really enjoyed the distillery tastings, in particular at Kilchoman, Laphroaig and Bunnahabhain. The local bus was reliable and stops straight outside the guesthouse. We had to organise taxis with one of the companies beforehand and I think it might’ve been difficult without having planned this. Machir Bay beach was beautiful, if you get good weather.

A fantastic place to stay on the Isle of Islay. Spotless accommodation with great attention to detail with decoration and breakfast table setting, worthy of a 5 star hotel. Breakfasts were both delicious and well presented and a lovely touch to have homemade bread, muffins and homemade jam and poached fruit. All in all, probably the best breakfast we have had in all our travels. Emma and Graeme were just perfect hosts, nothing too much trouble and just so friendly and helpful
Tips:Just traveling around the island is a delight, beautiful island with lovely scenery and beaches and the Sea Salt Restaurant in Port Ellen is lovely, good food and nice staff

Really welcoming, helpful and informative hosts. Very stylish, clean and comfortable. A good mix of quiet and sociable areas and quiet rooms. Excellent food and drink selection. In a good location for easy exploring of the island and beautiful beach very close by. Plenty of parking.
Tips:Having a car for exploring is a must. Ate in quite a few different places and think the food at Glenegedale was the best. Ask the hosts for walk and drive suggestions to make the most of the island exploring.

From our arrival to our departure, you made us so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and you gave us every help and assistance to make sure our first visit to Islay was a great success.
Tips:Ask for the Seafood Platter. We have never enjoyed such a culinary special feast for quite some time and with only 24 hours' notice. Travel the length and breadth of the island - the views are outstanding and there is another one just round the corner. We visited Islay as part of an island hopping holiday where we were introduced to island living and got to start to understand why people love living on the islands.

Lovely warm welcome with coffee and cakes. Emma knew we only drank de-caff from the time we arrived. Suggested good places to visit and asked about our day when we returned. Excellent food both for dinner and breakfast. The porridge w cream and a splash of Laphroaig was a new experience but delicious. Good selection of wines, whiskies and Loch Fyne ales. Beautiful rooms with view of sea and airport. Interesting to see the occasional plane arriving from Glasgow. The location means it's handy for a short break via Glasgow.
Tips:Isla is not blessed with good restaurants so I strongly suggest you (1) Book this b and B and (2) dine there. The food you will experience is much better than other options you will find elsewhere.

fantastic place, fantastic hosts, fantastic food , awesome porridge. such a friendly place. it warms the cockles of yer heart.
Tips:the food at glenegedale is really top notch. a lot of love and care goes into it and that shines through in the quality of experience for guests. a walk to the Mull of Oa is worthwhile, beaches near by are smashing, obviously distilleries are excellent and often the best places for lunch or coffee. Finalggan was a cool place to visit and the old celtic cross past Ardbeg.

Fabulous! Nothing was too much for hosts Emma and Graeme who did everything they could for their guests. Absolutely spotlessly clean and precisely following Covid guidelines. Lovely breakfast with freshly baked muffins to take away for lunch - unlikely you will need more. Don’t miss the seafood platter for dinner - amazing. Would definitely book again if in Islay.

Emma and Greame were hands down the best BnB hosts we have ever had. They made every effort possible to make sure our honeymoon was extra special, recommending what to do on the island. The seafood platter we had during our time was incredible - "in the top 3 of my all time meals" said my husband. Already looking at when we can next visit.

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at Glenegadale. Emma and Graeme are such nice people and wonderful hosts. They can't do enough to make sure your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The food is delicious, the venison we had on our first night stay was cooked to perfection. Breakfast didn't disappoint either, from the traditional Islay porridge, to the poached fruit and home baking, we enjoyed it all. We can't praise this delightful B&B and it's owners enough, it was a truly remarkable and memorable stay for us. We will be back!
Tips:The Islay Sea-Adventure Wildlife tour is well worth adding to your itenary if you have the time. It is a 2 hour trip around the little bays of Islay, taking in panoramic views of some of the distilleries along the way. We were lucky enough to see porpoises, deer, seals and a golden eagle. The crew are so friendly and their knowledge is impressive.

Great location for exploring Islay; most points of interest were less than a 30 minute drive away. However, there isn't really anywhere to walk to in the immediate vicinity. Breakfast and dinner are amazing! Bring your appetite; Graham and Emma will feed you tons of delicious, mostly local food. Excellent selection of whiskies and gins too. The decor of the house is great and the beds comfy too.
Tips:We focused mostly on walks, and really enjoyed the bluebell-carpeted forests on the coast north of Ardbeg, and the Ardknave circular walk, where you may be luckier than we were and spot an otter!

Owner Response:Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so happy you enjoyed your time here at Glenegedale House. Its such a shame you never got the chance to walk to the beach just one mile from our front door ....its seven miles of sand. I know one of the other guests shared a lot of their tips and you had great plans of your own but I wish I was able to have directed you to have a wander down the beach or through the trails behind us. Our daughter rides her highland pony up through the woods behind us ...theyre not obvious but literally three minutes from our front door. Ardnave is a beautiful walk as you mentioned and so is The Oa. As we chatted about Bunnahabhain is the best place for the otters. Next time... Emma

Five star is often over used but is fully deserved at Glenegedale House. Graeme and Emma were outstanding hosts and the food is superb, notably the magnificent seafood and charcuterie platters. Coupled with well chosen wines and a brilliant choice of gin and whisky (naturally) we went to bed very happy after wonderful trips around this beautiful Island. Bedrooms are excellent and the decor and furniture is first class. Honestly could not better our stay. Thank you. We will be back!
Tips:Make sure you have the porridge in the morning! An absolute must. Oa is beautiful and the distilleries at Kilchoman and Ardnahoe well worth a visit.

Amazing stay all round! My wife and I loved every minute of our two night stay. The best B & B we have ever stayed at. Loved the chocolate brownies and coffee on our arrival, my wife loves her finer things in life and I have to say she is singing all praises on this hidden gem of a B & B! The beautiful deco and the attention to detail took our breath away, very clean rooms, perfect China and all white and crispy linen. everything about Glenegendale is out of this world. Emma and Graeme are such a hardworking couple, nothing was too much trouble for Emma, we enjoyed the delious home baking we took away with us after every breakfast. Emma is a world class trip adviser, everything she told us about the island on where to visit was spot on, as it our first time to visit the island we were very impressed with the grass roots knowledge of Isle of Islay. Greame was very accommodative to my wife's dietary requirements, that made our stay easier and more relaxing. All in all a great and fabulous B & B, must stay at when in Islay!
Tips:Our highlight of the visit was the boat trip and for the best experience ask to go on the smaller boat with the skipper Gus. He has a vast knowledge on the isla and more, we enjoyed a drum or two. Visit the Seasalt restaurant for some great seafood. We drove to Port Charlotte and the surrounding areas. We will be back definitely.
