Lovely stay and a calming view. Very comfortable beds. My favorite was the abilty to read in the chair while looking directly out the window to the water view. The kettle and amenities in the room were much appreciated. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again. Would have liked a cutting board and knife in the kitchen area so I could cut some fruit, but that's clearly an extra. Thank you for a lovely stay.

28th October 2024:
Lovely view, fine, well appointed and quiet room, easy parking and a lovely location to walk to and from Oban and its diverse and fine seafood outlets. The Barriemore proved an ideal place for the event we attended at the Corran Halls. All in a great place to spend a relaxing couple of nights.
Tips:After the usual walks and another visit to Dunollie Castle and grounds we also managed to patronise our usual haunts, Ee-Usk, (best to book if timing matters), The Shore tearoom and the Seafood Hut. We can also recommend the straightforward value and generally pleasant ambience of the Corryvreckan. Their ‘Freedom’ breakfast with tea, toast and marmalade is simple, tasty and very good value.

The place is in front of Oban Bay and nice benches on porch to enjoy the view. The room was clean and spotless. Great parking in front and great walking distant to Donnolie Castle and town village.
Tips:Perfect location for private parking, walking distant to castle and town center. Great hosts.

Lovely Hotel/Inn on the water. We enjoyed out stay and the owners/manager were very accommodating. We reserved on a last minute and were pleased with the response and ease to check in. It is on the far end of the walking shopping district, but still very easy to walk and we were even able to park on the street in Oban. Weather was a bit nasty due to the storm, but we really enjoyed out stay. Bed was comfortable, amenities of coffee maker and refrigerator and nice shower as well. Liked the window where we could see the town. Only negative was walking up 3 flights of stairs, but after all the dining, we needed that!!
Tips:We thoroughly enjoyed the Olive Garden which won top awards for 2023 dining. It was an easy walk. The mussels there are the best!

The Barriemore is a beautifully maintained Inn, and the hosts do a fantastic job of making the guests feel welcome, as well as offering very useful information on enjoyable things to do and see while in Oban. The Barriemore is in a gorgeous location on the coast of Scotland, offering beautiful views of the harbor and the islands of Mull and Kerrera. Also, because Oban is a port city, there are many daily boat trips one can take to numerous islands that are full of historical sites and beautiful natural landscapes. This was our second trip to Oban and both times we have stayed at the Barriemore. We hope to return to Oban sometime in the near future and plan to stay again at the Barriemore. Cary & Molly
Tips:Ask the host Mark and he’ll have plenty of suggestions for things to do and see in the area around Oban. My wife and I particularly enjoyed hiking to Dunollie Castle, taking boat tours to the islands, and finishing our day with a light meal and a good ale at the Oban Inn or one of the many restaurants in town that offer delicious seafood options.

We had a fantastic stay at Barriemore Guesthouse! The free parking right outside the property was a huge plus, making it easy to move our belongings and saving on parking costs. The self check-in and check-out process was seamless, with clear and straightforward instructions. One of our favorite spots was the sunroom, where we enjoyed the majestic views of the sea and port, watching boats and ferries pass by. We also loved sitting on the benches at the front patio, overlooking the beautiful sea—such a peaceful experience. Although our room wasn’t sea-facing, the view from the side of the house was just as lovely. Our room was clean, spacious, and stylishly decorated, with a bright, airy bathroom. We especially loved the two wingback chairs by the window, where we could relax with a view of the side garden and a glimpse of the sea. A thoughtful touch was the sherry left in the room for a nightcap, and the mini fridge was a rare and welcome feature, even stocked with a chilled bottle of water. Though the property doesn’t offer food, the dining room is available for guests to use, complete with a microwave and cutlery. We also appreciated the easy, scenic walk along the coastal pathway into town. Overall, Barriemore Guesthouse provided a comfortable, relaxing stay, and we highly recommend it for anyone visiting the area!Sss

Although only there for one night, we loved Barriemore Oban. The room was well equipped with a fantastic seating area looking out over the sea. Check in and out were very straightforward and communication beforehand was clear. Would love to stay again if and when we’re back in Oban.
Tips:We were walking in the mountains on the way to Oban. Ben Cruachan is within easy reach, but wouldn’t be good for beginners. In Oban, we went for drinks at the View (which has an amazing view). Staff were lovely too. We ate at EE-USK based on recommendations from friends. Food was excellent. In the morning, we had coffee and cake at Hinba. Coffee was very good, as was the baking!

Spent a wonderful 6 nights in ground floor sea view room. The Barriemore continues to raise their very high standards. This time, took advantage of the coffee/pastry breakfast option, delivered to the door by 7am - an excellent start to the day. Weather was wonderful too so we could sit outside on the terrace watching the sun set - magic!
Tips:Need to book restaurants - the popular ones were very busy even at 6pm.

Beautiful room with a spectacular water view of the harbor and coast! The bedroom was quite large, with a comfortable bed and easy chairs at the window to enjoy the stunning view. The bathroom was equally large with a walk-in shower and a dressing room as well. You can also take in the water views in a glassed-in sitting room filled with comfy chairs and sofas. While there is no breakfast served, there were lots of thoughtful snacks and drinks. The Barriemore is situated along the esplanade a bit away from the main town, and is quiet and charming. Highly recommended!

Great location and within easy walking distance to town along the water’s edge. Great views across Oban Bay and very quiet at night. Facilities were clean, comfortable and the rooms are spacious. The owner was friendly and helpful!
Tips:There are lots of cafes and restaurants in town. We went to EE-USK which is a seafood restaurant at the pier and the food was great. Take a boat tour around the islands and an Oban Distillery tour if you like whisky. Walk up to the tower for great views over Oban and the bay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights stay at Barriemore. They no longer serve breakfast, due to family commitments, but that was no problem, There is a large room on the ground floor, which has all the equipment you want, all you need is the food! Rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean, with everything we needed. A fridge was an added bonus, so were a can of Iron Bru,a decanter of sherry and some Tunnocks wafers! I hadn’t eaten them, since I was a child! The owners were around every day they, live next door, so are also on hand, if needed. Parking is available for guests Barriemore is an easy walk along the prom to the centre of Oban, with plenty to see and do. It’s also an excellent place to catch the ferries to other islands I would definitely recommend Barriemore.
Tips:We ate at EE-USK and would definitely recommend it. It’s an independent, family owned restaurant with excellent food and very friendly and knowledgeable staff Oban Seafood Hut is a must! We had the seafood platter for two, which was delicious, loads of seafood, prawns, mussels, crab, lobster langoustines etc

This is such a nice place to stay in Oban. Our room was beautifully decorated (as is the whole building) and was extremely comfortable, with everything you could need and a stunning view out over the water. Barrimore's situation at the end of the esplanade makes it very peaceful, although only a nice stroll from the bustle of the town and harbour. Jan and Mark had explained the family commitments that keep them from being in the building very much when we booked (although they had absolutely no need to) but they had a very good welcoming system in place to ensure we knew everything we needed and had everything we needed. We would love to come back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here.
Tips:Ee-usk on Oban harbourside is highly recommended.

Short stroll along the promenade into town with plenty of places to eat and drink. Locals are friendly and welcoming. Would recommend.

I have stayed several times at the Barriemore in Oban, and I intend to stay there again in the very near future. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, and the Barriemore itself has absolutely everything I require for a peaceful holiday in Oban. I have no hesitation in recommending the Barriemore in Oban to you, as you will not be disappointed, and will be well looked after.
Tips:The Lorne Bar in Stevenson Street does great bar meals, and will not cost you a fortune. I would recommend the olives, home made soup, and the Macaroni & chips, absolutely fabulous. I was chatting to some American holidaymakers on the Promenade, who were looking for a "traditional friendly scotch pub" :-) I directed them to the Lorne Bar it fits the bill perfectly.

Lovely room, great view over the bay. Comfortable bed (my pressure points usually scream all night due to uncomfortable hotel mattresses - not in this case). Nice little welcoming touches added (in particular - a wee decanter of sherry). We've been staying off and on in Oban for over 40 years and it has taken us all this time to find this little gem. Can't wait until next time.
Tips:We used Cuan Mor and Piazza for meals - both excellent. We were fortunate enough to watch the antics of a pod of dolphins right in front of our window. Watching the sun set over the bay (with the bonus of a ferry sailing into view) is just sooooo Scottish and a sight not to be missed!!

We had room 6 which is top floor and extra large. Very nicely decorated and the views are fabulous. The bed is super comfy and the ensuite with bath has a fab view and is a really decent size. The side window views the town in the distance and the front views the straights towards Kerrara. We love watching the ferrys go past the window and the ever changing view. Barriemore being the last guesthouse on this road means it is a fairly quiet location compared with the other hotels on the front. We have stayed at several guest houses on this stretch and this is the best.
Tips:So much to do in, and from Oban. Ganavan sands is a fab beach with a fab view and good facilities. Take the ferry to Kerrara and walk to the castle and cafe. The 3 Isles trip to Staffa is fantastic, definitely worth the money. The green shack on the pier for seafood. Take a trip down to Ellenbach to see the slate Isles. Bring suitable clothing, it can be wet, cold, windy, sunny, warm, you name it!

The Barriemore is an excellent small hotel. We had several opportunities to meet Mark. He was very friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had a nice view over Oban Bay. It was a nice, relatively short walk to the main part of town, and a short walk, in the other direction to Dunollie Castle and the Dog Stone.
Tips:Reservations at fancier restaurants in town are recommended. EE USK was excellent if you like seafood. We took the 3 Isle Tour from CalMac Ferries, which was very nice and included Mull, Iona, and Staffa, where we saw puffins and Fingal's cave... both amazing. Oban is a wonderful town and the Barriemore is an excellent place to stay.

I loved staying here! Although there arent staff based in the building, they are around and it feels a very welcoming atmosphere. There are lots of facilities for self catering as there is a dining breakfast room with microwave etc for guests use. Also a lovely sun room looking out to the sea. I would definately stay here again.

Tips:Enjoyed visiting Dunollie Castle and the quiet beach at Gavanan. Port Appin was very picturesque and made a pleasant day out combined with a stop at the Castle Stalker View cafe en route. Had an amazing time , room was so lovely, had everything including sherry ! We didn’t have a sea view cos booked late but so what you can take your sherry etc and sit outside and see life and boats go by.
Tips:Oban is a great place, turn right and go towards a castle and a beach or turn left and head into town. We went on a 2 hour boat trip, listened to music in bars, did a lot of walking and then went for food. Recommend the Lorne Bar for reasonable priced food but lots of lovely restaurants.

No complaints at all, the bonus lounge with microwave is very thoughtful, comfy beds with duvets that actually covered our entire bodies - it was all perfect. If I'm blessed to be back in Oban one day I will not stay anywhere else. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have regularly holidayed in Oban over the past 40 years, and only recently discovered the Barriemore, I'm so glad that I did. This historic house is absolutely beautiful inside and out. My room (Room 7) had a dual aspect with fabulous views of the shipping entering and leaving Oban Bay, as well as incredible sunsets to the North over the islands of Kerrera and Mull. Mark the owner is a really friendly and welcoming lad, I will be back at the Barriemore in September.
Tips:The Piazza restaurant on the Pier is really nice, however if you want to meet some of the local characters then pop over for dinner to the Royal Hotel on the Square it's well worth a visit, so is the Lorne Bar in Stevenson Street just around the corner from the Royal. Take the ferry to Craignure on the Isle of Mull, have lunch at the historic Craignure Inn, then catch the next ferry back to Oban, a great way to spend a few hours, and see some fabulous scenery. Oh and do not miss the Oban High School pipe band, when they play in the Square at night, seriously talented musicians all of them!

After careful consideration, we chose to stay at the Barriemore for several reasons. First, the location is outstanding. The second was the appearance of the rooms in the photos and the third was the price. We were abundantly happy to see that our decision-making was right on point! This family run hotel is at the end of the row of hotels and bed-and-breakfast in Oban and just across a narrow road from the water. Our room was spacious, had very thick carpet, and a California king size bed. The first we’ve even seen in Scotland. I believe over here they might call super king. It’s what we have at home and it was very comfortable, had a down comforter and provided a solid 9 to 10 hours of sleep each night. The bathroom is large and has a big walk-in shower. All of the accessories and accoutrements are top-notch and well supplied. The towels are thick and fluffy, and the wall heater kept them nice and warm. A quick boil pot with coffee and tea supplies We’re waiting for us. There’s also a small fridge which is handy. Also, it was really quiet… Which is not always the case with those fridges. The views from our room were outstanding, and we had a double aspect. One window faced across the street to the ocean, and the other faced Out the side of the building across a house to another section of ocean. Both views were beautiful. There are a couple of large leather chairs and binoculars for your viewing pleasure. The room was super quiet, especially since we were on the very top floor. There is no elevator, so it is a walk up, but totally worth it. This hotel is running a slightly different manner than others you might be used to. Make sure you read their business model/check in policies and it will make complete sense. The benefit of this type of idea is that they’re able to give great prices compared to other places in the area. Restaurant choices are abundant, though they do tend to lean towards fish as you are right on the coast, and it is a fishing harbor. That said, there’s also some great local pubs within “stumbling distance“ 😂. We enjoyed every moment of our stay, and have no regrets whatsoever. We would highly recommend staying here for anybody who is going to be in Oban. If we ever return, we will book here for sure!
Tips:Be sure to eat at the Oban Seafood Hut (the green, one on the dock by the train station) best seafood in town and the best prices. Other than that, just hit up Google for local pubs and restaurants. The area is stuffed with them. The whole town is very walkable.

Tips:We can see how Oban could get pretty crowded during the peak months but it is definitely worth it. The easy access to island tours and the local attractions, plus great food, make it a great place to experience a Scottish port. Tips:The Ganavan Sands Parkrun was fantastic and I would recommend this friendly event to everyone. The beach and the views there were amazing. We also really enjoyed coffee and cakes at Julie’s café, as well as the War and Peace Museum and the walk to McCaig’s Monument.,

This is our second stay at the Barriemore and will definitely be returning. We were initially booked to stay for 2 nights but the heavy rain caused road closures. A quick call to Jan and they put us back into our original room for another night. Jan was excellent in keeping guests informed of the road situation, contacting Traffic Scotland and Bear Scotland and provided useful update on road closures for our journey home. Jan and Mark truly care about their guests, going over and above to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. The check in/out system is efficient and works really well. Top quality tea, coffee and toiletries provided for our stay. The rooms are cleaned to a high standard especially for being a dog friendly hotel. Thank you for the warm hospitality and we look forward to staying again soon.

Barriemore was excellent, great location with views from the hotel overlooking the sea. There is a conservatory where you can look at the view also benches at the front. Our room was on the first floor with a huge bed, powerful shower, great Scottish toiletries. There was a fridge in the room with cold water, tea and coffee and little touches like caramel wafers and iron bru and a ripple of sherry. 2 comfortable chairs and a little table. Loads of storage too
Tips:Oban distillery was well worth a visit. The whisky is nice. EE-usk was a lovely treat, a lovely fish restaurant, we booked prior to our visit The green hut on the pier next to the ferry was a great find, the seafood was great value for money and a friendly experience as there are 2 tables under cover Everyone we saw was really friendly

Truly the loveliest guest property that my wife and I have ever stayed in. Everything was pristine and elegant; self check-in went seamlessly; there is an option to order a scran box for breakfast; thoughtful welcome touches in the room; lots of information available on things to do and see in the area; the owners are friendly and helpful. We stayed in room A and I don’t have the words to describe how beautiful and spacious it is with a full view of Oban Harbour. Our only regret is that we were not able to stay longer.
Tips:Many restaurants and pubs are within walking distance of the Barriemore and a lovely walk it is along the harbour. Also shops and day trips nearby. Lots of info in the room and entryway. We particularly liked Marky Dans (recommended by the property owner) for a casual pub meal and good beer.

We had such a wonderful stay here. It was beautiful, spacious, very comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. We were in the self catering apartment yet they still left croissants and bags of coffee and tea for us to make in the morning. The couple who runs the place was very nice and gave us recommendations when I asked and accommodated an early check in for us. I, like other travelers who left reviews, thought that it looked a bit out of town according to the map, but it wasn’t and in fact the walk to and from town was beautiful along the water and perfect for walking off all the big meals! Also a very easy walk to the Dunollie castle that we very much enjoyed.

Returning guest and not disappointed. While a full breakfast no longer a choice this was clearly explained at time of booking and repeated when completing the self checkin firm and indeed made our stay more flexible as not tied to be in breakfast dining room by a particular time plus the room rate was adjusted to reflect this. The Barriemore is a very welcoming guest house , decorated to a high standard with some lovely touches around the house - notably the small decanter of complimentary sherry together with 2 Tunnocks caramel wafers & can of IrnBru- plus a relevant nautical theme throughout given the property overlooks Oban Bay with excellent views of the Calmac ferries plus other sailing boats. The conservatory is a very quiet relaxing room again looking out to the Bay with complimentary coffee / tea bags available plus small fridge & microwave evident if required. The bedroom was ideal - again very clean / tidy with a nice walk in shower in the bathroom plus toileteries provided. Both mattress and pillows were very comfortable which made for an excellent nights sleep. TV / radio provided were also welcome.
Tips:The Oban Inn is a particular favourite of ours - traditional pub interior with excellent choice of beer/ales plus whisky etc. Nice and relaxing place if you can get a table outside to sit with a few drinks and just people watch or admire the view towards the pier. Inside the pub we enjoyed the live trad music played by locals and after moving to the upstairs lounge had some very nice fish and chips plus haggis, neeps & tatties. We also eat in the China Restaurant opposite the distillery. While the food was very nice with dishes fulsome the interior was quite shaby with a damp smell and definitely in need of some upgrading / decoration and overall general tidy. The Correvechan ( Wetherspoons pub ) is ideally located on the pier. A typical Spoons set up with very reasonable food / drink prices.Generally busy but great to sit at the window or outside seating area with a drink overlooking the ferry pier and bay.

Tips:Coast restaurant, but book early; plenty of fresh sea food places if that’s to your liking. Oban: spend time relaxing, some interesting shops to suit different tastes, McCaig’s tower, relax and walk around - take in the bay. From Oban: take a ferry to explore other isles eg Mull. Or take a small boat trip to see the wildlife. Go inland: Inveraray, Fort William, Ben Cruachan, and places in between, the list is endless. Have a drink/meal at the Creagan Inn overlooking Loch Creran. You’ll have a great time whatever you do.

Quite simply the best value accommodation in Oban. Location is perfect situated on the promenade with a very flat walk of around 15 minutes into town. The rooms are spotlessly clean with everything you would need for your stay. Extra little touches add to the pleasure such as Irn bru and caramel wafers (a taster from Scotland) and some sherry. The breakfast tray is terrific value and a great start to the day. Jan and Mark are at hand if needed and the staff cleaning rooms etc are very friendly. We are already looking forward to staying here next year.
Tips:We recommend pre booking restaurants as they are very busy this time of year Cuan Mhor is the only one I can think of that doesn't accept bookings. First of all, Mark and Jan were attentive and friendly hosts. Couldn't ask for better. Second, our sea view room was beautiful. The only problem with it was it was so comfortable and the view was magnificent that we were tempted to just sit there, look out at the water, and relax. But we overcame the temptation and went on several beautiful walks near Oban and Glencoe. This was our second stay at the Barriemoore and we certainly look forward to our next visit. Outstanding!
Tips:Lost Valley in Glencoe is a great short hike, Etive a little longer and less people, and Boots Bar is memorable.

Along the Esplanade in Oban, a number of grand old houses built in the late 1800’s line the street and look out on Oban Bay. The Barriemore is one of these, which have been turned into guest houses. We had a first story room (above ground floor), with big windows looking out on the bay and beyond, to the Isle of Kerrera and in the distance, to the Isles of Lismore and Mull. Our room was large and beautifully appointed, with a king sized and very comfortable bed. It had large chairs at the windows as well as a pair of binoculars, for looking out the windows. There was an old fireplace and armoire. A small refrigerator in the room was very useful. The bathroom was large and very nicely decorated. There is a back room with space for bike storage, ice, and glassware. From the house, it is a short walk into town, to the shops, restaurants and port, where one can get a ferry to Mull or other islands. We took a ferry to Mull, then a launch to Staffa to see Fingal’s cave and the Puffins on the isle. Mark and his wife Jan, the innkeepers, were very prompt in answering questions. We had a nice chat with Mark who gave us great advice for driving in the area. We hope to return to Oban, to do more of the activities the area has to offer, and will definitely stay at the Barriemore.
Tips:Delicious fish and chips at Norries and Oban Fish and Chips.

The Barriemore was a great place to stay. Room was very comfortable and only a 10 minute walk to the town. Having the option of not having a breakfast meant that you could get up at your leisure which is what you want when on holiday.
Tips:There are plenty of local places to eat. Markie Dan's is a popular place. Also the local fish and chip shops are popular. You can book a tour of Oban distillery. The walk up to McCaigs Tour is very steep but it is worth the walk for the view. You can get a ferry to Mull or Tiree. Nice people, always ready to help and good to talk to. Well furnished and beautifully decorated rooms. Always a parking space, so important in Oban! Breakfast Box, a novel idea and the contents got us through past lunchtime. We've been visiting Barriemore for about 6 years and it's our first choice in town. Views across the bay are breathtaking, sunrise and sunset. The big ferries pass the door.
Tips:EATING OUT. Our experience this week... POPPIES, Dunbeg - Easy to park. Great Burgers, lovely location. COAST, good service, superb sea food. EE-USK, window views, Reasonable prices, very good food. PIAZZA, Cheerful dining out, not expensive. Not much meat choice. OLIVE GARDEN, expensive, food average, (Haddock fish and chips dreadful) No plan to return. WETHERSPOONS, usual fare, cheap, cheerful and always a warm seat. NOTE - CUAN MOR, usually good but we couldn't get a seat this trip!

Best stay of 3 weeks in Scotland. I stayed in 7 hotels in 3 weeks. All were very good in my opinion. But Barriemore blew our socks off! Our room was "simply" elegant, huge and well appointed. The bath was the size of a single car garage in the States with room to spare. We lingered for hours in the morning/evenings watching the ships enter the harbor from our double windows. The street was quiet and a nice walk to town along the harbor front. Mark & Jan are delightful.

Tips:Be sure to take one of the ferry tours to the outer Islands. The ferry terminal is right in city center and it's so easy to arrange. The Oban distillery is right in town and there are wonderful restaurants.

Fantastic spacious room with lovely views. Host was welcoming and helpful. Excellent location for Oban and surrounding area. Lovely touches in the room such as the Sherry, biscuits and a fridge. Range of furniture in the room really enhanced our stay and the decor was contemporary and stylish.
Tips:Great pub in Oban on the corner and a range of tasty local seafood served at various locations we visited. In particular the Fish Taco shack! An excellent starting point for trips over to nearby islands including Mull and the small and lesser known Kerrera with its cheap passenger ferry, circular walks, cafe and castle to explore.

Jan & Mark provided a healthy option for breakfat & enough to see you through lunch as well. Covid has been a testing time for everyone, especially meal times & the Barrimore have handled this very well. Breakfast hampers are delivered to your room, what a delight! The Conservatory has great view over the sea, nice to look out, in the evening.
Tips:Loved to have tried the fish restaurant, in the centre of town but couldn't get in, so I would recommend booking any place before hand. Can recommend any of the tearooms/coffee shops around the town. McCaig's Tower is worth a visit, as it the distillery in the centre of town.

We have enjoyed a wonderful stay at Barriemore B & B in Oban, Scotland. The building is beautifully appointed and rooms a good size, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The bar fridge in the room is most convenient. The guests’ lounge is a very good size, with access to microwave, crockery and cutlery, with a great warm conservatory adjacent. A very relaxing stay in a wonderful location on the Esplanade, a short walk from the town centre. Thankyou.

Loved the location …..easy to walk into the town or to the Castle etc…… Great facilities provided by the hotel, such as the guests lounge with a microwave provided to heat up food if required if you don’t want to eat out 😊 Modern classic bedrooms with comfortable beds ! Fabulous sunsets! Friendly host
Tips:Loved the Oban Inn …..very good meals at reasonable prices and very welcoming staff Would recommend Oban sea tours ……2 hour boat trip from the harbour with very knowledgeable guides on board. We saw a sea eagle, seals and porpoises on this particular day but the minke whale proved elusive sadly! Visited Dunollie Castle and fortunately on a Sunday they had a piper playing the bagpipes which was very nostalgic

We are regular visitors to Barriemore in Oban for very good reason, the accommodation is fantastic with fabulous views of the sea and Oban. Barriemore has great guest facilities including reliable wi-fi, complimentary sherry decanter and soft drinks/biscuits, a compact refrigerator, there are even binoculars in the sea view apartments for your personal use. The apartments are very comfortable, well appointed with a flat screen tv, an iron and ironing board, hairdryer, custom toiletries in the bathrooms and are kept spotlessly clean by the staff. You always receive a warm welcome from hosts Mark and Jan, and if you have not experienced the wonderful breakfast hampers, you are missing out during your stay here. The location on Corran Esplanade is fantastic with a peaceful conservatory/reading room, or a lovely external terrace with fantastic sea views if you prefer? There is also a designated parking space for each guest bedroom, and those of you who visit Oban regularly will know how convenient that is! Barriemore is within an easy 15 minute stroll into the centre of Oban and the ferry terminals, or approximately £3.50 for a taxi into the centre. The only reservation I have is, in posting this review it will invariably mean that we will have to make our reservations even earlier in future. Thank you Mark, Jan and Staff for yet another wonderful stay, we really appreciated it and will be rebooking with you directly again for our next stay. Love and Best Wishes, Ian and Linda xx
Tips:Great restaurants in Oban - Fine Dining - Etive; Our Particular Favourite - Coast; Highly recommended - The Olive Garden, Ee-usk (Seafood), The Lorne Bar (Great Pub Grub), 'Taste of Argyll) (Great Lunches and Full Scottish Breakfasts) We would recommend booking well in advance for all of the above eateries! Finally no trip to Oban for Sea Food Lovers would be complete without a visit to the 'Green Shack' on Oban pier for the freshest seafood in Oban in a really informal outside setting! Things to Do: Visit Oban Distillery, Day trips to the islands on the Cal Mac Ferries, Take a walk to McCaigs Tower, or Dunollie Castle and Museum(Turn Right from Barriemore and it's a 10 minute walk)! We also enjoyed Oban's War and Peace Museum.

Another lovely stay at this beautiful accommodation. Warm welcome from Mark. The contactless checkin is ideal and very efficient. As we like a cooked breakfast we did not order the continental one on offe. Mark and Jan supply list of cafés and restaurants nearby where you can have a traditional Scottish breakfast. We will hopefully return before the end of this season. If you can book a room with a Seaview do it as the views are amazing.

Excellent accueil.

The Barriemore is a very comfortable old house just at the end of Front Street where the best sunsets are on offer with a superb view across the channel to Kerrerra. The view is ever changing with boat traffic, the light and the weather. Add to that the well appointed flat we were staying in and you have the perfect base for your Oban holiday. It's very handy for the road north out of Oban too. So a lot less seasonal congestion to deal with.

My Husband and I have stayed at the Barriemore many times over the years. We immediately relax upon arrival as the Guest House is comfortable and clean with all the facilities that you need. Mark and Jan, the owners, are friendly and extremely helpful and welcoming. The breakfast hamper provides you with a good quality breakfast and food that you can take away on any day trips. On the lower floor there is a conservatory and cosy lounge area where you can sit and read or eat any food brought in that you can heat up in the microwave provided. The location is great as the walk into town is always enjoyable. We would not think about staying anywhere else in Oban. The quality of the accommodation is first class.
Tips:Restaurants: Eeusk, Olive Garden, Piazza, Cuan Mohr, The Pierhouse area all places we enjoy eating at. Things to see/do: Oban Distillery, Ferry to Mull/Iona/Staffa, Easedale, Crinon Canal, Lochgilphead, Cruachan Power Station, Inveraray Castle/Jail, are but a few. Leaflets for trips, etc, can be found in the entrance hall of the Barriemore and there is a Tourist Information Office in town.

Outstanding accommodation and hosting by Mark, Jan and their staff at Barriemore on Corran Esplanade on Oban's sea front. Yet another Fabulous stay in Barriemore and the now familiar warm welcome on arrival by super hosts Mark and Jan, prior to entering our immaculately prepared ground floor suite. Guests needs in all of the rooms rooms are really well provided, with Tea and Coffee making facilities, a nice cool bottle of water in the mini fridge, or a can of Scotland's famous soft drink 'Made fae Girders' accompanied by biscuits, there is even a small decanter of sherry to welcome you to the Barriemore Hair Dryer, an iron and ironing board are provided, as are beautiful custom hand gels, shower gels and moisturisers in the bathrooms. A lovely large varied continental breakfast is available to be delivered to your room door in the morning if required, and my wife and I have yet to finish eating one! We are regular visitors from Perth to the Barriemore in Oban due to all of the above and the wonderfully warm welcome from the owners, for whom nothing seems to be a problem. Thank you All for yet another Wonderful Stay and we will see you all again in August
Tips:Our Favourite restaurants are 'Coast' great seafood and steaks and 'Etive' for that special occasion - Michelin Prices, but I would advise booking well in advance if you want a particular date/time, and'Taste of Argyll Kitchen' also does wonderful lunches and afternoon meals? For good 'Pub Grub' we also liked the 'Lorne Bar' and the 'Oban Inn', and for fantastic informal, wonderfully fresh sea food, you must try 'The Green Shack' at the ferry terminal! You are spoiled for things to do in the Oban area, but we would recommend the distillery tour, the Ocean Explorer Centre (In Dunbeg), the Oban War and Peace Museum, or one of the numerous ferries available to the Islands of Mull or Lismore, Easdale or Kerrera for day trips.

Tips:We would recommend visiting the local bars such as the Oban Inn and Coasters, both do reasonable food. There are several good restaurants catering to all tastes also as well as coffee shops. Good location, stunning views. close to the town centre but without the noise as its on a much quieter side street. Loads of private parking. Power shower, spacious room, warm and cozy. The only thing we missed was a full scottish breakfast, but the breakfast hamper was excellent.
Tips:There is a bus stop to and from the centre of town, ferry terminal etc which is a few yards from the front of the hotel (bus 417) Giant skate fishing trips (our biggest was 138lb) The town centre has a very large selection of bars, pubs and restaurants.

We had an overnight stay at the Barriemore, the room was spacious and very comfortable. Two lovely armchairs to relax in, the bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was lovely with good shower. We had everything we needed. The breakfast hamper was excellent and well thought out. There was also hot rolls available. Ideal location for a stroll along the front with lovely views across the bay. Very good communication regarding the booking, check-in and information for stay. Would highly recommend, it’s a beautiful B&B, well done Jan and Mark, you are doing a great job.

We had a wonderful stay at Barriemore! The room was extremely clean and was all set up with everything we needed. The B&B is just a short walk into town to shops and restaurants. The breakfast room is not being used because of covid, but Mark and Jan deliver a continental breakfast to your door each morning that changes each day. There is also the option to grab a hot sandwich downstairs! Mark and Jan were also really accommodating when we left early two mornings and brought us our breakfast the night before.

We loved our room. There was everything we needed to be comfortable and relaxed. The Taylors coffee and the smoked salmon for breakfast add to the quality feel of the stay. The spacious room and wide bed are exactly what we wanted for relaxing and a good nights sleep. Love the quality of the decor. Small issue with the shower head which is too heavy for the holder and won’t sit at the correct angle. The left under blind at the window also needs some black marks cleaned off. Looks like grease or oil (?). Small complaints as overall we thought it was worth every penny

Room was very clean and well decorated. The bed was very comfy. I have coeliac disease and one of my biggest concerns about staying anywhere is that I won’t be able to have breakfast. The continental hamper was excellent and there was plenty of gluten free options. Also, it was great to be able to have a hot breakfast roll like normal people. There is the option to have a bacon or sausage roll- and the sausage is glutenfree (most places don’t have gluten free sausages). I would definitely stay here again.

Room A (Super King suite) is huge with stunning views of the bay. The hosts (Jan & Mark) were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast hampers were varied and more than sufficient. Extra top ups of tea, coffee, milk sugar were readily available. I usually stay in hotels, as opposed to guest houses, but I much preferred our stay at Barriemore. The whole experience could not be faulted. Thank you Jan and Mark for all of your time and effort. Your business approach is spot on!
Tips:We went Whale watching with Seafari Adventures, although there are several other operators who provide a range of boat trips to nearby islands. Lots of short ferry options too, including car transport, if necessary for the trip that you choose. It was quite busy when we visited so I would recommend a little research to find what you are looking for and then book in advance. There are numerous lochs, places of interest and some beautiful areas of interests/ walks nearby. I would say that Oban suits a 3-7 day break depending on your interests.

The best B&B I have ever stayed in! The attention to detail is superb! Barriemore has thought of everything that every traveller would need to make their stay memorable and comfortable. After a very long trip in the rain on motorbikes, the room was a relaxing welcome with a warm shower and fluffy towels. Every motorbikers dream after travelling in the rain! The breakfast every morning was dropped at our door, everything was fresh and tasty! Over the 2 mornings, we had something different dropped off each time. Breakfast rolls are also available in the dining room. Rooms were spotless and immaculate. Bed was also very comfy! We will definitely be back!

In such difficult times for Holidays, due to Covid restrictions, I doubt whether I could have wished or received better service in normal times. Mark & Jan were so helpful and accommodating with advice and extra service. The Breakfasts delivered to our door each morning were varied, fresh and well thought out. Although we were guests I felt as if I could have been a friend staying at their place. The additional fact that the Hotel was at the end of the Oban esplanade with wonderful views from our Bedroom and very little noise made it all the better. The whole week was finished off with the wonderful site of an Otter feeding just a short distance from the Hotel.

Contactless check in was quick and easy. Breakfast was great and the room was spacious, had great veiws amd was clean. Nothing not to love about the place. I mentioned in a previous reveiw that maybe the headboard should be mounted to the wall and not the bed, hopefully the reason for that is fairly obvious. But that is really the only criticism, if you could even call it that. Its a great stay.
Tips:Book restaurants early to avoid disappointment. Personally we stayed clear of the "fancy" places and opted for George street fish and chip shop, which has a sit down restaurant next door. It was amazing. Beats the hell out of fancy restaurants and their child sized portions.

We have stayed several times before and we’re naturally a little apprehensive as to things would be in the current circumstances. But we needn’t have worried at all. Excellent service, nothing was too much trouble. The continental breakfasts were excellent and things were pretty much as normal. The room was well maintained; the addition of the fridge was a brilliant idea, and it should be a permanent fixture. We had a wonderful week.
Tips:We like Coast restaurant as it caters well for our dietary requirements. Oban itself is a very interesting town well worth spending time exploring - the beach at Ganavan is surprise bonus! There are plenty of places within reach which are well worth visiting. The ferry takes you across to the Isle of Mull, which is fascinating to explore. The list is virtually endless. Oban is not called the Gateway to the Isles for no reason, and the Barriemore is a brilliant place from which to base yourselves.

Fabulous B&B the building is lovely inside and out loved the sun Terrace had a couple of drinks out there watching the boats pass very relaxing. The B&B is very clean and well maintained. Self check in was made really easy and room was ready earlier than expected which was great as we arrived early. Hosts doing a good job at keeping guests and themselves safe during these times. Hosts were great with giving information on things to do places to eat contact and communication great. Room was amazing loads of space beds comfortable en suite brilliant shower lots of space facilities really good especially fridge in room. Nice touch with the whiskey, Irn bru and tea cakes. The seating area at the window was great having breakfast views were amazing. Loved the breakfast hampers so much choice and changes daily also hot rolls provided in breakfast room so you still had something hot thought that was great and being able to relax in the morning still in my pyjamas eating breakfast with views to die for what else could you want. Location is great as it's not far from centre but far enough that its quiet and peaceful. Loads to do close by went a local Walk found a lovely beach Ganavan Sands been to oban a few times and didnt know this existed not far from B&B lovely walk. I will definitely be back to stay at Barriemore when I come back to Oban tops any B&B or Hotel I have stayed in.

Wonderful B&B Guest House with stunning views of the bay and islands of Kerrera and Mull. Jan and Mark are very hands-on, warm and friendly hosts who work hard to ensure your stay is perfect. We booked early in the season so we could get the front sea-facing room, which didn’t disappoint; in fact it is one of the nicest suite-rooms we have ever stayed in… Huge bedroom with super-king bed, a large picture bay window overlooks the water and islands with two armchairs and table… where we spent hours each evening just watching the boats and gazing at the view with a chilled glass of wine - small fridge is supplied also! Breakfast is served in a socially distant way, by way of a large cooler containing more food than anyone could ever eat! Pastries, croissants, cereals, fresh milk, juices, coffee, tea, fresh fruit and berries/melon, muffins…. In addition, there are hot sausage and hot bacon rolls in the guests dining room that you can pick up each morning. For guests to enjoy, Jan and Mark also leave a small decanter of Sherry with glasses and a couple of Tunnocks chocolate tea cakes and chocolate cookies, which get refreshed every day, together with fresh drinking water, tea and fresh coffee. The guest house is incredibly clean and tidy, with strict social distancing rules asking for mask on around the property and hand sanitizer everywhere. Outside the front there are two benches with soft cushions to sit and enjoy those views in the sunshine - we were v lucky and had very warm sunny weather so spent much time sitting there.. we even spotted an otter dog playing in the bay early one morning, how perfect! Thank you Jan and Mark for your warm and friendly hospitality, we will definitely be back next year. 😃
Tips:There is so much to do using Oban as a base.. we barely scratched the surface! Drive to Fort William and take the Jakobite Train (think Hogwarts Express - which it is). Fabulous trip to Mallaig where you can stop for a very nice lunch or ice cream before travelling back.. ensure you grab a photo or video of the amazing viaduct as you travel over it! Walk up to McCraig’s Tower, at the pinnacle of Oban and gaze at the outstanding view of the bay and islands beyond. Visit the Oban whisky distillery for a guided tour to learn how to make malt whisky - be prepared for a couple of wee drams 😉 Drive to Glencoe (a must!) and take one of the very many scenic walks in absolutely stunning surroundings, including Steall Falls waterfall - proper boots for this walk!! After which, take lunch or a beer at the Clachaig Inn - perfectly situated sandwiched in the valley between two imposing rock faces, so peaceful and really good food! Hire a bike (or an electric bike like me) from Oban Cycles in George street and cycle Route 78 from Oban to Taynuilt and take lunch at Robin’s Nest café.. lovely place to stop and such friendly staff and lovely food. The scenery will blow your mind on R78 and you may pass through a herd of Highland Coos! Take the ferry to Mull and turn left once arriving in Craignure, drive for 1 hour (very scenic drive - single track with passing places) to Fionnphort and take the hop on/hop off ferry to the beautiful and spiritual Isle of Iona… you will not regret this!! You only need a morning in Iona before driving back and onward to Tobermory to see those colourful houses fronting the port which made the kids TV show Balamory famous! If poss, stay a night on Mull.. gorgeous island. Take a boat trip around Oban Bay on one of the many tourist boats and go and see the seals and maybe some sea birds 🦅. Fish and Chips has got to be one of the meals you take in Oban - we got ours from Oban Fish and Chip shop and hand on heart it was the best fish and chips we have ever had! I don’t like batter so had breaded haddock.. omg, amazing!! We had it twice for dinner out of 4 nights there! Ee-usk and sister restaurant Piazza offer great views across the bay, a lively, popular venue with good service. Green Fish shack seafood kiosk on the pier for great seafood to go.. by the ferry terminal; if you like seafood you will love it! Lastly, for us, staying at Barriemore, our favourite thing to do was eat our fish and chips on the terrace outside the front door and gaze at the views with a glass of chilled rosé - for which the lovely Mark and Jan provided us with an ice bucket! Wonderful.

A decent sized room. Clean, tidy and well equipped. Very comfortable bed. First class shower, plenty of hot water. What more could you want. The tot of sherry a nice touch... In these "Covidly aware" times the in-room breakfast service (in lieu of the traditional B&B breakfast) provided ample and imaginative continental-style breakfast. The delivery of the breakfast at 7:30 (in a covered plastic bucket) was well timed we thought, with the offer of hot filled rolls much appreciated.
Tips:Barrymore is situated at the end of the Esplanade, a reasonable walk walk into town or a quick and inexpensive taxi ride if requited. Safe, off road parking was a bonus. The al-fresco dining on the pier - mussels and scallops etc on offer, should be tried!

A superior B&B. The room we had(No6) was spacious with plenty of storage. Well equipped with a fridge and kettle, as well as well stockedeith tea, instant and ground coffee, as well as drinking chocolate and biscuits. A comfortable bed and bathroom too. A great view out of the window of both Oban Bay and the island of Kerrera. Given the current Covid climate, checking in was undertaken in advance online and the self check-in was straightforward. The breakfast hamper was good and there was plenty to eat to one going until the late afternoon. I would recommend this place and will stay here again the next time I am visiting Oban.
Tips:I would recommend eating at Eeusk, and a 2hour. boat trip is worth doing too. Forlongerboat trips I would recommend Sealife Adventures;a trip outto the Correyveckan. Another boat trip worth doing is with Etive boat tours based at Dunstaffnage marina, 3 miles north of Oban. Their boat trip up to the head of Loch Etive is definitely recommended.

Beautiful sea view room. Large comfortable bed and lovely decorated suite. Because of Covid restrictions, we had a continental hamper delivered to our door. Plenty of tasty Scottish produce. We would choose to stay here first before trying any other b&b in Oban.
Tips:Plenty of lovely restaurants to eat in. Also has a Wetherspoon for reasonable priced family food.

Tips:We pre-booked a day trip to Mull. Worth a visit. Also climbed to the Tower. Nice walk to the Castle to the right of the house. Easy walk into Oban. Due to Covid no Restaurants were open, however, had excellent fish and chips from Norrie’s and enjoyed eating outside (could have taken into the room but thought it would be a bit smelly

You had thought through your non contact check in quite well, went smoothly. Also there was a nice variety in the breakfast box as well, so that went well. Room was clean and well presented.
Tips:Most nearby castles etc are shut for the year. Oban distillery tour has just restarted and we got given lots of freebies which was great. We chartered our on boat trip from Etive Boat Trips at Dunstaffnage Marina. Whilst costly for two people, it was worth it to see all the wildlife and was actually very nice to have whole boat to ourselves.

We had a lovely stay rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The continental breakfast was more than adequate, enough for a snack later. Due to Covid19 we never met any staff but the communication was very good through emails. Oban is a lovely place to visit and we will be back as we have more things to see and do. The Barriemore is situated in a quiet part of the town, but only a 15/20 minute walk to the centre of the town. Would recommend this a great place to stay.
Tips:We went on the Staffa boat tour which was fantastic place to visit. We also went to Iona on that tour as well. We were fortunate the weather was ideal so we got to see the places in the sun. Due to Covid19 many places for eating were closed.

Amazing hosts! Always kept in touch and very informative. All the info provided helped a lot. Absolutely loved staying at Barriemore and will return on our next trip. Place was spotless and homely. Everything comfortable and loved all the little extras, inc breakfast.
Tips:We only tried one restaurant the Piazza which was lovely. Food was fantastic and right at the shore, and good prices aswell. Lovely town to walk around with lovely shops aswell. The bakers Roxys was also fantastic we got plenty of cakes from there. Weather wasn’t the best but lovely area to walk around and we even a managed a mini boat trip, didn’t see anything but was still nice. If booking a trip it’s best to book in advance and probably phone them as they will tell you what they have and how good a day it will be weather wise.

Super lovely B&B! Very clean and modern rooms with lovely cosy features and the toiletries were amazing - one of my favourites to use at home! Location is ideal as just a short walk into the centre of town. Literally so peaceful and no loud outside noise. Had everything we could have needed and more. The self service of check in/check out was so easy and the breakfast boxes delivered in the morning were so good and set us up for the day ahead. We have already sent the details of your B&B to my partners parents.
Tips:We enjoyed taking in the local sights. Had a lovely walk up to McCaig’s Tower and enjoyed the day trip to the Isle of Mull. The local pubs all have super friendly and helpful staff - nothing was ever too much trouble. Had lovely meals @ Cuan Mor, Piazza & Taj Mahal as well as a great visit to wee waffle place on the front. Saw lots of local boat trips advertised also so always things to do.

Excellent B&B. Under the Covid restrictions we felt really safe as it was clear that all the guidelines were being met to ensure the wellbeing of both Guest and Staff. Ideal the Breakfast basket rather than using the Breakfast room and it was plentiful couldn’t really ask for better. Accommodation was great room 2 was lovely just sitting watching the world go by with a sherry for a night cap!! Lovely touch. ! Great 2 day relaxing break . Would highly recommend to others and definitely will return.
Tips:We used the website “”Wee Walks Oban” and done a few walks. Clear instructions and couldn’t go wrong. We enjoyed our stay at the Barrimore B&B very much as we had a front facing room on the top floor. This allowed us to see all that was going on in the bay and the room was spacious and warm. Parking was easy in front of the hotel and the delivered breakfasts suited us admirably with a wide choice of fresh food and other items. We will certainly stay at the Barriemore if we are ever in the Oban area again. Just a note of caution - there is no lift and entry steps are quite steep so not suitable for wheelchair access.
Tips:We did not eat out because of Covid 19 restrictions and bought our evening food from takeaways or M&S. Oban has a good selection of restaurants and worth a try when restrictions ease up eventually.

Free parking on site a bonus.

We have recently returned from a 5 night stay at the Barriemore Bed and Breakfast. This was our first trip away from home since February due to the Coronavirus epidemic. We had kept in touch with the owners Mark & Jan prior to our visit and they kept us advised by email of the procedures they were going to implement to protect their guests and themselves due to the new world we are now living with. We were one of their first guests so it was a learning curve for us all. You will need to wear a face mask in all the communal areas of the building and you will have a breakfast hamper delivered to you bedroom door each morning so sadly no hot breakfasts this stay. However they had provided us with a good selection of items so we never went hungry. We stayed in Room 2 one of the Super king size bedrooms with an amazing view of the harbour and the islands all day. It really was lovely watching the ferries, fishing boats and yachts going on their voyages back and forth . The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean throughout our stay and social distancing was respected by Mark and Jan. We certainly enjoyed our break and exploring Oban and the surrounding areas. We plan to return as we did not get to Mull on this trip as the ferries were busier than we had expected. Thanks Mark and Jan and good luck with the rest of the season during these exceptional times. We will plan to return in the next year.

Tips:We stayed in Oban 4 nights. It was a good length of time to stay local & venture further. We had our lunch twice at the cafe shore, an evening meal at both Wetherspoons & Oban Inn. We spent our first full day in Oban. MacaigsTower, Seal Colony boat trip, Norries Fish & Chips, chilling on the benches enjoying the bay sunshine. We drove to Appin, Fort William, Siel & Easdale. We purchased some gifts at Argyll Pottery on our way back to the Connel Bridge. We had a stroll on our last evening around the grounds at Dunollie Museum which was located next to the Barriemore.

Very welcoming hosts. We stayed 3 nights in a suite of two bedrooms with sea view lounge and it was lovely. Very clean, lots of towels, comfy beds and well stocked hospitality tray. The parking is easy with private parking right outside. Breakfast was delivered in picnic boxes each morning with more items than we could eat but good for snacking during the day.
Tips:It’s a lovely walk along the front into town. Enjoyed sit-in fish and chips at George Fish and Chips near the harbour. We also had a fantastic meal at Coast - top notch, just couldn’t fault it. Took the ferry to Mull for a drive through to Tobermory - picturesque and worth a visit. There’s a lovely walk out to the lighthouse if you have time. Not too far away is Port Appin - also lovely and you’ll go far to find a more beautiful spot.

If I could give more than five stars for service I would. We drove around Scotland booking different guesthouses every night and this was our favorite. Including beating out a supposed five star location.
