20th September 2024:
I stayed for 2 nights in a double room with shared bathroom, but this room had an undeclared enclosed toilet & sink, so only needed the bathroom for a shower. The bed was very comfortable giving me the best sleep of my trip. There was a complimentary tray of cereals etc plus bowls/spoons and in the small fridge was fresh milk and fruit juices. Friendly and helpful hostess. Best approach on foot is up the road, but not as steep as expected. Nearby is Pulpit Hill offering panoramic views - a highlight of staying here.
Tips:Take West Coast Motors bus 418 to Elllenabeich for motorboat ferry to tiny Easdale Island to see relics of a once important slate quarrying industry and superb coastal views.

Our hostess was very helpful with information about the area and making plans. The room was clean and comfortable. We definitely recommend the Don Muir guest house and would stay there again.
Tips:There is no on-site parking. You have to park a couple blocks away and walk. Something to think about if you have mobility issues.

I found Caroline very friendly and easy to talk too who was also happy to give me local information when I asked and the use of garage for my bike really helpful and I felt safe and settled in the guesthouse itself it was a very pleasant enjoyable stay
Tips:Ask for help and it will be forthcoming the ferry trips to local islands are a great day out and there's so much to do I'd spend more time there if traveling again

Enjoyed my one night stay at Caroline's guest house. Room was great, although it doesn't provide a breakfast, there was plenty in the room to make one yourself with cereal, fresh milk, juice, biscuits, crisps and a soft drink. Nice little touches. Many thanks
Tips:There's plenty in the room for a DIY breakfast

Don Muir is easy to get to, in a quiet location above Oban port. My single room was nicely furnished, with a very comfy bed and lots of welcome treats, including fresh milk and orange juice in the fridge. The bathroom (bathtub, shower, loo) across the hallway was extremely spacious and spotlessly clean, with plenty of hot water. Finally, the owner was really friendly and most helpful.

Such a lovely home like place with a very warm welcome. The Don Muir had the best Welcome/breakfast pack that I've seen in a long time. Hugely grateful for it. Fresh milk/orange juice/apple juice. Magnificent. And the bed was perfect..
Tips:The GPS instructions for finding it are a little off in the last 50 yards. It's a lovely walk to and from town but it is uphill so if you're not fit it maybe wiser to taxi.

Very comfortable and lots of lovely extras! Quiet neighbourhood and very convenient for the ferry. Host very understanding when we got delayed and checked in late.

Made feel very welcome. Room and facilities are ideal.
Tips:A small self service breakfast is included, which we found more convenient and flexible for us. Oban gets busy, book your preferred restaurant early. We found The View an ideal eatery with good selection and service. This guest house is an ideal location for island travel, and local bus journeys. Caroline is a most accommodating host and a credit to the tourist trade. She offered helpful advice and suggestions for places to visit during a five night stay the Don Muir guesthouse. The favourable rates were a bonus and I'd stay again if the opportunity arises.
Tips:You can't beat Wetherspoon's 'The Corryvreckan' on the quayside near the CalMac Ferry terminal for a breakfast (with unlimited coffee). Local fresh seafood at the Green Shack is excellent and The Oban Inn does good meals food and hosts a brilliant Scots folk music session in the bar once a month.

We were greeted in a lovely friendly manner by Caroline the owner. The room was ideal for what we wanted, which was a comfy bed and a room that was self contained which we were very pleased with. Tea, coffee and Hot Chocolate with the added bonus of some biscuits were available. The mini fridge kept the milk cold along with two bottles of fresh juice which we weren’t expecting. Bottled water was also provided. Don Muir is situated on a hill which is just around the corner from Pulpit Hill viewing point which is a must to visit. If you are without a car cut through by the ferry terminal beside Semichem, it provides a bit of a short cut. We are definitely intending to stay here again. One of the best guest houses we’ve been too. Thank you Caroline for making us feel so welcome.
Tips:We didn’t take a car so walking feet it was! A walk up to Craig Tower is a must if you can handle the 140+ steps to it. Well worth the view. We also went to up to the castle at the other end of town. Dunollie Castle ruin, there is a cafe and small charge but again the views are outstanding. We were disappointed that the Cathedral was closed even though it stayed open all year. Hop on the Ferry over to Mull. If you are on foot you can get the bus from there to Tobermory which is a colourful seaside village with Sandy beaches on hot days. Not much to do there but again it was made famous by the children’s TV program, What’s the story in Balamorey. We have no idea why the name change! To eat we can highly recommend . Piazza, Coast or Cuan mor are all good

I've been recommending Don Muir already. The walk up the hill was lovely, but it is uphill. The bed was very comfortable and, if you're looking for somewhere quiet, this is it. Breakfast very generous and good.
Tips:I was only staying in Oban overnight before travelling on to Iona. The evening meal at the George Street Fish Restaurant was excellent.

Esperienza bellissima!! Grazie infinite!!! — The property is located in a quiet residential area 10 minutes walk or a couple by car. Parking is free, less than 100m from the property. The owner was very kind and very welcoming, she explained to us as soon as we arrived how to get around and where to eat at the best !! The room tidy and clean. There is the possibility to have breakfast in the room, the owner has a sheet filled out with the various proposals, from the classic sweets to the traditional Scottish one! Beautiful experience !! Thank you so much !!!

A great stop off sadly en route home after 12 days on Coll & Tiree. Lovely warm welcome and breakfast in your room rather than having to sit being observed by other residents Beautiful location for Pulpit Hill with amazing views over Oban and out to Mull, the hill footpath confirmed how unfit I am though! Thank you for a hassle free stay and a real bed and bath after a long time in a tent Cheers Andy

Don Muir was quite easy to find but it is right up Pulpit Hill and though they have parking facilities it is a tight road. But that's not really anything they can do and was only a bit problematic because it was dark and raining. Anyway, all positive, the owners are lovely and friendly and the rooms comfortable, clean and cosy. A 5 to 10 minute walk into town, there is a quicker footpath down the hill than following the road back down. The hill is steep so the walk is more suitable for the more able bodied. Really was great value for money. I would whole heartedly recommend.
Tips:Nearest pub and restaurants are next to the ferry terminal, the Weatherspoon's Corryvreckan is there as well as one of the finest fish food restaurants in the Waterfront. Obviously the ferry terminal is great for getting out to the islands. There is the Food From Argyll cafe at the Pier, really recommend going there for coffee (probably best in Oban) and food. There is the Green Shack as well, for great mussels and squatties. The Oban Whisky distillery is worth a visit. Dun Ollie Castle is just outside Oban on the way to Ganavan, definitely worth a visit. Argyll Sea Tours offer boat trips and fishing trips from the town centre. Also go to the Oban Chocolate Factory.

Had I had breakfast in the usual way I might initially have been a bit disappointed you no longer do a full Scottish breakfast. However, I'm sure the other things you do would have been fine. Thank you for being helpful in moving things around in your garage to accommodate my bike. Teasmaid offerings were generous.
Tips:Worth taking a look at the viewpoint just a few hundred yards away. I recommend The Royal Hotel bar meals (open to non-residents) for evening meals. Possibly you might also be able to eat in the restaurant.

Room was immaculate. Location is excellent for exploring Oban. The host was warm and welcoming and helpful. The "room-delivered" breakfast works great--and I highly recommend the waffles.
Tips:Ample free parking is available in a public park which is a short walk away. Downtown Oban and McCaig's Tower are easily walkable from the B&B.

Booking.com needs to update their web-site to reflect the fact that a) Breakfast is a continental version, and b) It is a do-it-yourself kit in your room, to avoid guests being disappointed by expecting the usual Scottish fry up served in a dining room. Not that there is anything wrong with denying people the opportunity to do so on occasion! Best wishes for the future.

Lovely place ti stay. Quiet and clean with a short walk to pulpit hill for spectacular view of the city
Tips:If you're planning to take a ferry to one of the islands, such as staffa, this is a perfect place to stay as it's only about a ten to fifteen minute walk to the terminal. However, keep in mind that this location is up the hill (beside pulpit hill) which could prove to be difficult for anyone with physical challenges; keep in mind your walking on the road and not rough terrain. Very warm hospitality here.

Great value for money, this bed and breakfast is up out of the town with the advantage of parking on the drive. It is a 10-15 minute into the town centre and the hill may be a bit onerous for some, but the views over the bay as you walk down are superb. The continental breakfast is in the room with fridge and food all to hand with milk and juice. The hostess of the house is very welcoming and always prepared to help make your stay that little bit better.
Tips:Oban is the Scottish seafood capital. For a restaurant Ee-Usk on the north pier is a must, but needs to be booked and is not cheap. For a wider choice and great food and service at a reasonable price The Olive Garden on the South Pier is well recommended. Again there are seafood huts on the South pier, one near the ferry terminal, with fresh fish that has almost leapt direct from the sea. For entertainment the Corran Halls host many famous and not so famous names. The wee cinema is a delight. Also a trip to the museum is a must, small but very interesting. Oban is a great centre for touring and apart from the ferries to the islands, there are great sea trips for wildlife watching, whales, dolphins, seals and bird life. I recommend going late April to early June. Oh yes. The sunsets are to die for!!

This is a friendly, comfortable guest house with good facilities. Located in a quiet residential area above the town. Plenty of choice for breakfast. The Manager is friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this as a base from which to explore the town and surroundings.
Tips:We ate at the Olive Grove restaurant twice. Although this is part of a chain, the staff were friendly and the menus not overpriced, with space between tables. We also enjoyed coffee and cake at the little café attached to the Ferry port. A visit to the Distillery is a must. Interesting tour right in the centre if town. The War history museum was also fascinating, run by volunteers, down by the Quayside. If you need a good camera shop there is one in the High Street and an excellent music shop (proper music, not the touristy stuff) just off the large roundabout.

I was made very welcome and treated very kindly over the duration of my one night. As comfortable, as if at home in fact, visiting long lost friends! All requirements and instructions of stay were clear and well signed, so I knew what to expect . My Own odd poor organisation was accommodated helpfully, patiently and without question. The ambience at breakfast was calming. Plenty of choice and cooked perfectly, even better than I'd do myself...except I like my mushrooms browned up a little more
Tips:There are a few, 3/4 steps down to the entrance but less steep incline from the side to enter and leave, if mobility at all an issue. Access to my ground floor room uncomplicated. The town 10 min walk away, mostly down hill. Plenty restaurants and cafes , good sea-relevant local shopping. The (large Red roofed) Piazza restaurant, on the quay is lovely. Good views of the Sail boats docked too. Good to and from, accessible railway too. Though trains from Glasgow only twice a day?
