Delighted with the property which was tastefully decorated, warm and spotlessly clean. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and I’m looking forward to my already booked return. I had to give a score for staff /service to complete the review. I have given an average score purely because I was staying for work, arrived late and left early therefore didn’t meet anyone. All communications have been timely and helpful.

What a fantastic place We only stayed 1 night but won't hesitate to return. We stayed in the room called Hayloft which was really a small apartment, very well decorated and very comfortable, with everything required for a lovely stay including a small kitchen. Included was a light but very adequate breakfast, served in the adjoining cafe, by 2 very nice and polite young ladies. The staff in the gift shop also very warm and friendly, in all a fantastic place to stay in the region
Tips:As we arrived early evening and were not equipped to use the small kitchen we went to eat at the nearby Argyll Hotel, which was recommended in the welcome email. Again a fantastic place lovely food cooked perfectly by nice welcoming people Highly recommended

Exceptionally friendly, helpful staff. Very clean and modern bedroom with communal kitchen and lounge area. Good breakfast, accommodating food intolerances. Lovely shop on the premises too.
Tips:Ardshiel Hotel, Campbeltown is nice for an evening meal - lovely friendly staff there too. Approximately 20 mins away. Approx 20 minutes away from Machrahanish Old course and about 15 mins from Machrahanish Dunes course.

Lovely place and ideal for our needs. Shame that we arrived late and departed early and couldn't enjoy the other facilities. Will hopefully stay again in the future.
Tips:Sometimes it is great to escape from the usual cities and traffic, and go to peaceful, quiet location, where the only noises you hear are the birds and the wind blowing through the trees. Highly recommended

The room and house overall were excellent! I arrived out of hours, but the instructions to get myself checked in were very clear. The only tiny issue I had was that the room was very cold when I arrived at 5.30pm, and the heating didn't come on until later in the evening. It was also very cold again the next morning. Thankfully the shower was very hot and powerful! As I said only a minor detail for me - overall a lovely stay. Thank you.
Tips:If arriving out of hours, ensure you have either eaten already, or bring food with you to cook in the lovely kitchen! Closest eateries are in Campbeltown, and don't deliver as far as I see.

This was an exceptional find, and a real gem. It was a shame it was just for 1 night at the end of our Western Isles tour. I do hope to return though. We had 2 rooms, with 3 in our group. Both rooms were to a really high standard. Pristine in cleanliness and outstanding quality in the bedding and furnishings. There was even a lovely well fitted guest lounge, with a fully fitted kitchen and dining table. As this is in a fairly remote area, the guest room was excellent as we could use it for breakfast, before making an early start. This was kindly packaged and left in the fridge for us. Top marks to the owners. The extra touches like tea/coffee on arrival if before 4pm, was exemplary, and was well received. Thank you thehouse@glenbarr. 👏👏🥳
Tips:The beaches on the west coast were fabulous - Westport and Machrihanish. Look out for the beautiful pastel coloured beach huts near Campbeltown Airport. Don’t miss Glenbarr Abbey just round the corner. Lovely single track road between Carradale and Tarbert. Don’t forget to go out and see the sunset over the water, on a nice evening.

Beautiful home from home accommodation with absolutely every amenity you would need for a comfortable stay. The rooms are well styled and spacious due to the layout. The staff are super friendly and the attached store and cafe were lovely. It was lovely to interact with fellow guests in the shared kitchen space. Very well stocked kitchen. We did not explore the local area as only stayed for one night. Amazing shower. Very helpful staff.

Directions very clear. Accommodation very clean, extremely well equipped, and comfortable. Staff were very helpful and the chance to eat breakfast outdoors on a sunny morning, while admiring the flowers in the wee garden centre, was just so nice.
Tips:If you can, buy a copy of the wee walks book, ‘40 walks in Kintyre and South Argyll’, author Douglas Milne. (£6.99 at the time of writing.) He includes the breathtaking Machrihanish Beach but lots of other places for nice - and not overly demanding - walks. We ate dinner at the Argyll Hotel, as recommended by the House at Glenbarr, and had a very nice meal. Well made Polish stuffed cabbage and great falafel were two nice surprises on the menu. The Cullen Skink was also very nice.

EVERYTHING… staff were attentive and we didn’t need or want for anything. Everything had been extremely thought out . No guest staying there would feel like they weren’t staying in their own home. The nightlight / torch was absolutely the perfect touch to lighting and in an emergency if needing to go out to your car in the darkness of Scottish nights. I’ve even now ordered one for my home. The breakfast was absolutely so fresh and cooked to perfection. We met up with some friends and the dogs ( clan of spaniels) were also made to feel at home.

Easy access from key box at front door. Room was large and cosy. Bed firm and comfortable. Tea and coffee provided with biscuits. Milk in the fridge in the shared living/dining/kitchen area. En-suite was a good size with a large shower. Our only negative would be the noise the toilet made when flushed. Our breakfast was included in the price and was taken in the café. Cereal, yogurt and fruit as well as a choice of hot roll was good. We will stay here again when visiting the area.

Jody and her team deserve a lot more than 5! We were greeted by name in the shop and soon taken through to the garden centre for a welcome brew. The set up is unusual in a very good way. Shops selling local produce, a garden centre with cafe and choice of sitting inside or out or in the huge greenhouse with plants! As Glenbarr is a bit of a way from places to eat we made use of the excellent kitchen to heat food from the shop. We liked the living area and it made conversation with other guests easy. Everything fresh and bright. Breakfast was good with all we hoped for including friendly service.
Tips:We loved exploring Kintyre, though would have enjoyed it more if the roadworks to the lighthouse had been completed at the time of our trip. Campbeltown had plenty of places to visit. The heritage centre is charmingly old-fashioned with fascinating artefacts and a great Kintyre welcome. We liked the tranquility of the Linda McCartney memorial garden behind the cinema. Just a drive along the loch side is atmospheric and picturesque.

Very enjoyable stay - a home from home. Staff very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble.
Tips:We had evening meal at Big Jessie's and the Argyll Hotel. Different menu and price ranges, but both excellent in their own way. Booking required for the Argyll. If planning on visiting any of the islands, you can buy tickets, check timetables online, to make the most of your time.

We were delighted by the standard of the accommodation, the cleanliness was 5 star and the staff were friendly and helpful. We loved Glenbarr as a quiet little village with access to a fantastic beach only minutes away. The general coastline and area is stunning especially in the beautiful weather we had on our trip. One slight comment we would make on breakfast is that there was not enough choice, especially if one is a vegetarian, what we had was nice enough but could have been a little better.

Wonderful place to relax and unwind. The staff was absolutely amazing, the food delicious (best scones ever, organic food) and the room spacious, clean and with large extra bathroom. The beaches around are stunning! Highly recommendable, just keep in mind it is remote (needs good planing if you come by bus like me but absolutely doable and all worth it)!
Tips:Surf at Westport beach - check out Pete's Surfschool Eat delicious dinner at amazing Argyll hotel by the ocean Enjoy tranquility, food, sun and the beautiful large glass house just at the back of the house.

Lovely accommodation. Tastefully upgraded and decorated rooms/bathrooms. Lovely breakfasts provided and staff extremely helpful, knowledgeable and kind. Ideally situated in a small quiet village which is an ideal base to explore Kintyre.
Tips:Nearest pub/restaurant is the Argyle Hotel a couple of miles away in Bellochantuy. The restaurant has stunning seaviews over to Jura and Gigha. In the evenings we sat in the grounds of the accommodations garden centre to have some drinks and snacks. Was lovely sitting inside the seated area of the greenhouse for some protection against the wind. Try driving to Southend to The Muneroy stores/tearooms. Quaint, individually decorated tearoom with the most fantastic selection of puddings, cakes, meringues and scones.

The House at Glenbarr was perfect for our short break, facilities were excellent , beautifully appointed rooms, and the use of a lounge and full kitchen if needed. The shop was really beautifully laid out with a fabulous selection of basics as well as lots of lovely treats /gifts. Breakfast in the cafe was superb and every single member of the team we interacted with was friendly and helpful ,we couldn’t have wished for a more pleasant stay ! We even returned home with a boot full of ceramic pots from the garden centre! Thank you to everyone at Glenbarr, you are bound to go from strength to strength, we hope to return sooner rather than later ! .
Tips:This is a wonderful place to stay with easy access to ferries and to Campbeltown and beyond . Breakfast was excellent, the cafe is spacious and has great coffee too! Staff were really welcoming and friendly throughout our stay at Glenbarr.

Lovely overnight stay at this unique property .We stayed mid week and so could only have a continental breakfast but this was lovely and we opted for the bacon rolls .The room was beautifully furnished and the private bathroom across the hall was surprisingly not a problem . The property has a garden centre and shop and in the evening we took our own picnic dinner to the large green house and enjoyed the evening without midge attack .The green house has tables and chairs and a sofa for use with the cafe during the day but for guest to enjoy at night . We didn’t use the kitchen facilities but had a look round and there seemed to be everything we could need . Will stay again when on Kintrye and would recommend this establishment to any fellow travellers.
Tips:Great evening meal available 2.8 miles away at the Argyll Hotel ,situated on the beach .Though would recommend trying the green house experience on site.

Seafood platter not as good as before , pickled onions not a good match with seafood and breakfast not as good as before, was always nice to come for breakfast to table set and good choice of options-favourite was scrambled eggs and smoked salmon which is no longer available which was a disappointment. Housekeeping in bedrooms is perfection, cleanliness in whole house is excellent.
Tips:A trip to Gigha is always a must with a visit to The Boathouse for seafood lovers as is the Seafood Cabin at Skipness. Campbeltown has good restaurants and cafes too and the fabulous Picture House is a must for film lovers. Glenbarr is the perfect location for catching ferries to Islay and Jura and also Arran.

Staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. There was a great selection of breakfast items each morning (croissants were amazing!) and on the day of departure we had a breakfast bag made up for us as we were leaving early. Lovely shop and garden centre attached to accommodation. Tea and coffee facilities were provided in the room. Nice to see local businesses supporting each other - handwash and other products were made locally. Plenty of current local guides/leaflets available. Great location for exploring Kintyre. We had a very relaxing experience here and will definitely be back.
Tips:Best food we had was in the Glen Bar in Carradale and the Argyll Hotel just five minutes down the road from Glenbarr. The paninis and soup at the garden centre were delicious and great value for money. There is a Tesco and Co-op in Campbeltown. Highly recommend a trip down to Southend. Saddell Abbey and Castle provided a nice walk and a bit of history.

The rooms are lovely and clean with more than enough room. Lots of storage to put/hang your clothes. The bathrooms are decent size with fresh fluffy towels and bath robes. Staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The staff are great with dogs, which helps when you have a slightly nervous dog. The breakfast are super and very filling. It's more than just a place to stay with the shop, post office, garden centre and cafe!
Tips:Glenbarr is 30ish mins from Campbeltown and Tarbert. Tarbert has lovely harbor with nice shops. The last deli in Tarbert has really nice food and ice creams. There is loads of beaches near by glenbarr so you don't have to travel far. There is a dog friendly place to eat about 5 mins away called Argyll hotel in bellochantuy. The food is lovely at the at the argyle hotel, plus they have a good range of gin's & whiskey's. The sunset while sitting outside the argyle hotel is spectacular. The ferry to Gigha is about 10 mins away from Glenbarr. The ferry leaves on the hour from the mainland and half hour from Gigha. The ferry takes about 12 cars at a time. The carpark isn't huge on the mainland. There is lots to do on Gigha from renting bikes to paddle boards or just walk to a beach. I would recommend going to Keil. The beaches there are stunning, then again nearly all the beaches in kintyre are stunning.

Tips:I marked location as 3 as it was not the area that I had hoped to be staying in as I had work commitments in another town which was 40 mins north and there is very little nearby - which may be of strong appeal to other guests. Such a fantastic, lovely place to stay, everything has been thought of to make your stay as comfortable as possible and the staff are so helpful and welcoming. We stayed in the Hayloft, which truly is a 'home from home', very comfy and cosy with a separate kitchen area that is equipped with a microwave, a twin induction hob, a small fridge even a little table and chairs. There's also a roomy cosy seating area. The alpaca bedding helped us to have the best nights sleeps in ages! The cafe serves beautiful fresh food that caters for gluten-free and vegetarian diets, and the staff are great!
Tips:Be sure to visit the beach at Westport which is only 5 mins down the road towards Campbeltown.

Great instructions for stay, beautifully decorated and comfortable beds and furnishings. Loved the kitchen and dining area downstairs. Not sure how I’d feel about being a lone traveller with shared facilities however not a deal breaker and could have felt like a posh hostel if there had been lots of others staying.
Tips:Take your own food or order a platter as there are not other facilities for miles around. Pretty hamlet although we didn’t really explore. Very friendly people in the shop next morning.

We were delighted to have found this place. It exceeded our expectations for the quality and range of facilities in a single location and provided a great base for us to explore the area. The accommodation had been designed with care to provide a high level of comfort, style and modernity within the spacious ensuite and guest lounge/kitchen/dining areas. The on-site shop is well-stocked and proved very useful. The cafe where we had breakfast is worth a trip in itself. The outdoor seating in the greenhouse was an added bonus. In all, an excellent experience.
Tips:Plan ahead for eating out or self-catering. It is advisable to find out where is open and book ahead, or order freshly prepared food from the hosts in advance - the shop and cafe close at 4.30pm. Be aware that you might not get a mobile signal here. Take your time to find out about the many scenic and historical sights worth visiting.

Lovely accommodation, immaculately clean and stylishly presented. We had everything we needed including access to a fridge plus extras like board games which is a nice touch. The breakfast was delicious and the staff friendly and interested.
Tips:We had booked with the intention of going to a local(ish) restaurant that was unfortunately then closed due to Covid. We therefore arrived later and had to leave to get the return ferry the next morning so didn’t really see the local area. Bring your own wine (we brought our own food but noticed very tasty looking platters for other guests in the fridge that you can order from the cafe).

Loved the idea of being in a bed and breakfast next door to a garden centre with cafe. Having a communal lounge/kitchen was a bonus and gave us an opportunity to meet/chat with other guests. A really quiet location away from the main road. The staff were very friendly and helpful to us and we would certainly recommend it and we hope to return to see more of beautiful Kintyre.
Tips:Lots of places to visit on both east and west Kintyre including Campbeltown. Obviously you need a car or other vehicle. Quite a number of the roads on the east and south are single track but if you take it steady it's ok. There are places to eat around the island but it is best if you book ahead (especially at the moment). We visited the Mull of Kintyre, Campbeltown, Peninver, Saddel, Carradale, Skipness, Machrihanish (long beach and village).

This is my third time staying in Glenbarr this year and it has been a gem of a find. The rooms are beautifully decorated, beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are spotless. Not only are the rooms fantastic but each morning you are welcomed by the friendly staff in the cafe to enjoy a delicious breakfast that sets you up for the day. Very friendly, helpful staff. Lovely food platters to order and nice breakfasts. Bedding of very high quality. perhaps because of time of year not all that much in garden centre although I did buy 1 plant to remind me of my visit. If I had anything negative to say my heart sank when I saw the unkempt property opposite the shop but don't suppose you can do anything about that. Maybe show them this review !!
Tips:No places to eat out for miles so I would suggest having a main meal out at lunch time and order a platter for evening. You can keep your wine chilled in the kitchen fridge and there are glasses supplies. The kitchen is spotless.

The accommodation in The Hay Loft was excellent. Really couldn't fault this lovely place. Although the Hay Loft is dog free - due to it being on the upper floor and that you have to go upstairs to access it which normally in it self it not a problem but as dogs are allowed in all the other rooms they have to access the stairs to get to their rooms also. Because of this and due to my allergy to dogs did cause my allergy to flare up. Liz in the shop was very helpful and friendly nothing is too much trouble for her. The bistro cafe served up great food but again my concern was with dogs being allowed into this area. The staff in the bistro were courteous, efficient and friendly. I would have preferred to have wooden floors in the other bedrooms and landing and stairs as feel it would be easier to maintain what with dog hairs. This would be my only reason for not returning to this lovely little gem.
Tips:We visited Southend, Muneroy's for cake and coffee, Machrihanish Beach and the Gauldrons. A short trip to Saddell Abbey and visited the Anthony Gormeley statue. A wonderful peaceful visit and was blessed with wonderful weather for most of our visit. Good food at the Old Clubhouse in Machrihanish would defo recommend and reasonably priced. Everything within a 20-30 minute drive - We didn't get onto Davaar Island due to the tide timings but defo next time.

The whole place is spotless and very tasteful throughout. Bedding and towels lovely quality. There is a very nice open plan kitchen/ lounge area with tv and dining table for guests to use. We were also invited to take advantage of the outside areas after the garden centre closes. Although a cooked breakfast isn’t on offer, we had plenty to eat in the lovely cafe and was left a packed breakfast on request as we were leaving early the next morning. Would not hesitate to stay again.
Tips:Pubs and restaurants on Kintyre are few and far between so booking essential for eating out. Campbeltown has a fish and chip shop and a Chinese takeaway along with a few pubs. Obviously housekeeping are ghosts as they're neither seen nor heard but the place is immaculate. Garden centre next door where breakfast is served at the moment. Continental or cooked if you prefer. Good choice of food on offer. The shop also can provide ready prepared food to be left for you. Platter plates can be made and left for you in the house. All delicious and all from local sources. Excellent quality of ingredients. I will be recommending Glenbarr House to my family and friends. We enjoyed our stay very much. The location is peaceful, the Hayloft was pristine, the staff were very friendly(although the shop staff member on Wednesday morning was a bit grumpy((wrong side of bed))lol). I would note the discrepancies between eat in and take out food are quite excessive, although the local produce is excellent. More leaflet and info on local transport would have helped us.
Tips:Own transport for the peninsula is highly recommended as local buses are not very reliable.Always check for availability on ferries before travelling to avoid disappointment. The local produce is of a very high standard and should be tried(the smoked cheeses in particular are delectable). Try beachcombing on Machrihanish Bay if the weather holds, good chance for photo opportunities with seals, otters and even whales. For the brave and adventurous, the Corryvreckan whirlpool. For the history,Islay and for the adrenaline, the Paps of Jura.

A wonderful place to stay when visiting Kintyre. We spent 2 nights in ‘Holly’ and wouldn’t change a thing. A comfortable bed, a huge bathroom and lots of thoughtful touches. You get all the facilities of a self catering house and the bonus of a great breakfast! We ordered a cheese platter for our first evening (plenty for 2), lots of different cheeses, cold meat and fresh salad and we ate it in the glasshouse surrounded by plants and classical music ( for the plants!). We were so impressed that we had another platter the following evening, again delicious. The cafe was spotless and the service was great. The garden centre and shop were well stocked with local produce and crafts. Staff were friendly and welcoming and all COVID-19 restrictions were adhered to. We will definitely return, hopefully very soon!
Tips:This time we had travelled to Kintyre to explore the stunning area around Southend. Driving was a challenge in places! We took the scenic route to Southend (single track road), fabulous views and glorious weather, a photographer’s dream. It’s worth visiting the lighthouse at the end of Kintyre, again the views are amazing. The road out there is also single track with passing places. We were lucky as it was very quiet, good reversing is definitely necessary especially as motorhomes seem very popular there.

Thank you.
Tips:There is a beautiful bay for a swim, can't remember the name , it's by the yellow church, the woman in the shop will direct you, worth a visit . I honestly hate to highlight a few things but feel i need to in order to make it a 10/10 experience rather than a 9/10. There wasn't enough toilet paper for a 2 night stay (although we managed to find some in the back of the kitchen). It would make a huge difference if the towels were large fluffy bath sheets rather than simply bath towels. Our towels didn't get replenished (although we did follow the instructions and left the used ones on the bathroom floor). The cord for the blind in the Holly room didn't work properly and so we had to leave the main blind open which meant the room was quite light during the night. (i realise we could have highlighted this at this at time but didn't like to complain) Otherwise we had a lovely stay and were extremely impressed and felt it was more like a boutique hotel rather than a B&B. We will leave a great review on Booking.com and would definitely recommend the House@Glenbarr to others. Also, your Garden Centre motivated us to buy plants and flowers for the very first time!
Tips:Make use of the lovely lounge, kitchen and outdoor areas. Visit Gigha. Visit Clachan.

Owner Response:Thank you very much for your honest review, I am aware that the blind is not working properly and will organise its repair. I have also taken note of your comment regarding the towels. Glenbarr Stores is clearly the hub for a very small, inland community. Despite no sea view, Glenbarr is the perfect location for exploring Kintyre. Charming staff, a special nod to Liz.
Tips:Trip to Machrihanish is essential, dinner at Old Clubhouse pub is recommended. If, like us, you are blessed with good weather, just taking in the scenery is good enough. If you try to find the Gormley statue at Saddell, I wish you luck! Get directions from a local.

Superb tonight stay that we wish had been longer. Just everything was wonderful and perfect sunny weather was a bonus. Zofiya and her team could not have been more welcoming, in the house, shop/garden centre and cafe. We look forward to returning!
Tips:There’s so much to do here, though the highlights of our visit were Achamore Gardens on Gigha ( make sure you arrive early for the ferry as it’s only a small one), the Skipness Seafood Cabin ( so good we ate there twice!) was a fantastic recommendation by Zofiya, it’s hard to choose a favourite beach as there are so many wee spots looking towards Jura, Gigha, Arran. Lots of wildlife to look out for - Didn’t spot an otter this time but there was plenty of evidence of them, so we’ll be back!!

We visited the house@glenbarr b&b for seven nights. It was a really lovely place. Quiet location. All COVID secure with hand gels around every corner, we were greeted on entry and explained all the measures being taken and how breakfast would now be served in the next door cafe. We stayed in the Holly room which was spotless with a double bed, small sitting area and en suite bathroom. Continental breakfast was great - plenty of choice on the menu, something for everyone’s tastes. Owner Zofie and staff were brilliant and incredibly friendly and you really felt as though nothing was too much trouble. The establishment have a small onsite shop, garden centre and excellent cafe serving delicious food at exceptional value. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, whilst feeling very safe. We would thoroughly recommend this b&b!

As we were travelling during Covid times is was a real shame that the Communal kitchen Was closed. Completely understand why and can see it’s just not feasible or safe to open it. This is the only reason facilities have a 4 and not a 5! Should we be in this area again we would love to stay here. Didn’t fully experience the wonderful looking food shop and Deli as we arrived too late and set off in the morning before it was open. Liz was the friendly member of staff who greeted us on arrival and provided us with a breakfast bag for our onwards travel to the ferry the next morning.
Tips:We travelled through to manrihanish dunes village for dinner. And ate in the pub. Very friendly and accommodating staff and food also good. Stop at Tarbert on the way through. Wander round the harbour and have a drink to sit & watch the world go by... it’s very pretty

Great stay. The restrictions due to Covid-19 meant that we couldn't access the kitchen or lounge which would have been useful. We did make use of the tables in the greenhouse, it might be helpful for other clients if there was a notice as to where the light switch was, we did find it after a bit of hunting in the dark. The heating in the rooms was a bit strange, just coming on on our last morning and not in the evening. Tasty breakfast and good to be able to purchase extras. Thank you will recommend you to others.
Tips:Had a great meal at the Boathouse on Gigha.

Simple instructions to access our delightful room,(Holly)which was dog friendly, and ample covid precautions in place. Our double room was so comfortable . Staff very friendly and helpful, welcoming us and wishing my partner a happy birthday they had decorated our table with beautiful felt "Happy Birthday" garland . Good food simply presented, delicious coffee. On our return in the evening we discovered a greetings card and two individual bottles of Prosecco with accompanying champagne flutes awaiting us in our room. A most thoughtful and appreciated touch. Thank you all at the House @Glenbarr.
Tips:As no evening meals here we ate on both evenings at the Argyll Hotel ,relaxed friendly restaurant overlooking the bay, with a varied selection of tasty dishes on the menu. A walk along Westport Beach is a must, we were fortunate ,it was not too busy. Seek out the Linda McCartney memorial garden in Campbeltown ,it is tucked away ,but a place of total peace.

Beautiful boutique b n b with large stylish and modern room, amazingly comfortable king size bed (a 5 minute nap turned into a blissful 3 hour sleep!!), and great garden with cafe for alfresco breakfast (the weather was great!). We have stayed here before as is so well located for a day trip to Gigha and trips to Kintyre’s stunning west coast beaches. It’s great value for money and also has a lovely shop to browse and buy tasty treats from!
Tips:Close to ferry for day trip to island of Gigha - amazing restaurant on beach there and lots of white sandy beaches to enjoy. Drive a few miles south of Glenbarr to beautiful Westport beach and slightly further afield to Campbeltown and it’s distilleries. A great place to stay and enjoy superb and spotless accommodation with beautiful Kintyre beaches 5 minutes away by car . We also sat there in the evening and had it rained there was a covered area available . This was key as the shared kitchen area was closed due to Covid restrictions . We had 2 very well furnished and immaculate rooms and the beds were so comfy . Would highly recommend .
Tips:There is a lovely beach 5 mins away with hotel with great beachside terrace for food and drinks . Westport beach , another 5 mins by car towards Campbeltown is amazing . A beautiful b&b/inn that had everything we needed for our stay. The house, cafe, shop, garden centre and property are thoughtful and unique in design and in what it offers to travelers, guests and customers. The house facilities are spotless with large, airy, luxurious rooms and over-the-top comfortable beds. Breakfast was delicious and we were so glad we ordered dinner from the cafe (delivered to the house). The meal was delicious and focused on locally sourced products. They go above and beyond to ensure your stay at the house@glenbarr and visit to Glenbarr is memorable. Highly recommended.
Tips:Take the time to sit in the garden or cafe and have a scrumptious snack or meal - it's a perfect place to relax and enjoy their cuisine. And a walk around Glenbarr and area and past the Abbey is a must. It's charming - the landscape is beautiful, views spectacular and the people friendly.

Enjoyed the set-up of the House. Staying in the Hay Barn allowed us to relax at any time we felt like staying in before or after heading out exploring the area. Liked the breakfast as you can plan your own timing etc. Facilities are really excellent, would have given a 5 but maybe a DVD player would be good to allow guests the option of watching a movie while staying. Location is very good, a little closer to Cambeltown would have been ideal but you can't have everything!
Tips:Argyll Hotel is very good and reasonably priced and pet-friendly. The hotel at Machrihanish has a nice pub next door for lunches and a spa which is great for a treat. The Glen Scotia distillery tour is well worth doing, friendly staff and great to see the style of a traditional still.

This was a lovely little find last minute as part of our travels and we wish we had time to stay for one more night. Bedroom was lovely, decorated very nicely and had everything we needed. The lounge area was nice and cosy also and breakfast in the morning was ideal for us to help ourselves. The lady from the post office who made the freshly baked croissants was very friendly and helpful with our questions. Only one negative, which is a personal thing, is the fact the house accepts dogs. We knew this in advance but didn’t appreciate the big dog bouncing into the lounge area at night while we were sitting drinking a cup of tea. The owners were just behind but weren’t exactly respectful it wasn’t their house and keeping the dog at their side.

A lot of thought had gone into items in the room, including an led light for use in the night, eye masks and ear plugs. I hasten to add that the ear plugs would only be needed if your partner was snoring, because it was very quiet. Glenbarr is a lovely little village near to the Ghia ferry and the Kennacraig ferry.

We loved being able to sit out in the garden. We loved the breakfast and the use of the kitchen. The decor and design was all so tastefully done. We must say though that we were very glad to have the place to ourselves as we hadn't realised just how much sharing there'd be of the kitchen and lounge with other residents. (We're a bit anti-social!) If all the other rooms were in use, it could have got quite awkward if no-one knew each other as it was quite intimate! 21st July 2019:
A lovely place to stay - we'd definitely like to come back and stay again. Very comfortable bed, nice fresh decor everywhere, all areas very clean, friendly host and staff - our only reservation is that the small dining area of the kitchen may not be adequate if all the guest letting rooms are occupied, and the help yourself kitchen area would be very busy, although of course not everyone would be breakfasting at the same time. There is also the cafe area for hot food which could be used after 9am. An extra welcome touch was the warm croissants at breakfast and the cakes in the fridge in the evening. Tea/coffee/fruit juices available all the time, also a nice touch. In all, highly recommended.
Tips:The pub at the Machrihanish Golf Course was excellent ( not the Dunes course ), and the Ardsheil Hotel Campbeltown, ( not good for disabled access/toilets though ) and the Indian Restaurant the Taj Mahal on the front in Campbeltown were good for food. We wouldn't recommend Munch in Campbeltown - it was a bit disappointing in our view but was busy with takeaway food for locals when we were there. The award winning Muneroy tearoom at Southend and the Cadora cafe/fish restaurant in Tarbert are also both very good. Keep your eyes open for spotting seals, buzzards, red squirrels, otters - and we're told there are sea eagles in the area, although we didn't see any. A good run by car to Kilberry/ Port Ann and to Claonaig has lovely scenery/views. The book shop in Campbeltown is worth a visit, as is the walk to Tarbert Castle. Crinan Canal walks are very interesting, Cairnbaan Hotel pretty standard food, other places better. Kintyre is a beautiful area, with lots to see and do.

The house@glenbarr is a place where you feel like home from the moment you step in. The hosts welcomed us with a warm smile and showed us the way in. All was well-organised. Our room and the common area were recently refurbished, refined with modern decorations to create a serene space. Breakfast had a "help yourself" set up in the common area, where the hosts left also croissants and pastries in the oven and cakes from their shop in the fridge for everyone to eat. All food was fresh and local. It was also a chance to chat with the other guests about each other's travelling plans and past experiences, all in an open plan kitchen/living room, which felt like everyone's home. Next to the house, the hosts manage a fantastic space, with local shop, garden centre and cafè where the homemade cakes for our breakfast came from. The room was large and the bed comfortable, it was a very nice stop in our scottish tour

1) No milk in room for arrival; no note to say in fridge in kitchen/sitting area. Found this out in the morning! 2) Self service continental breakfast is poor given the £76.50 charged. 3) WiFi didn't work in the room. 4) Mention in property information that "on site parking" means on a public road, albeit a quiet one.

Enjoyed our stay, accommodation was lovely. Whilst using our bathroom across the hall, on a couple of occasions someone tried to access our bathroom. Maybe a sign on the outside of the door to let guests know that it is for sole use of Hazel guests to avoid any confusion. Also at breakfast time there was no milk available, but managed to get some from the shop, also no spoons or cups available, we eventually located them in the dishwasher. Just a couple of minor issues, but on a plus side very friendly staff & comfortable accommodation. Would recommend to a friend.

We had an amazing stay, very lucky with the weather!. The house is fantastic with great facilities, very cozy bedroom, great breakfast! Excellent base for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. All the rooms are immaculate with extremely comfortable beds. The food on offer is of an excellent quality with fresh croissants every morning for breakfast. Parking is right outside the accommodation which is another added bonus. All the staff are friendly and welcoming and always willing to help in any way they can. A thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay for the second time.
Tips:The accomodation itself offers a lovely garden centre next door to potter around in with various plants and small gifts to buy. The cafe is superb with great staff and excellent local cuisine. We had lunch there and it was really tasty! As a paying guest, the large greenhouse can be used at night for dinner or for a quiet place to sit with a glass of wine, reading or listening to the birds singing and fairy lights twinkling. A bountiful supply of wonderful surrounding countryside with an array of wildlife to see, from hawks, seals to deers. There are further opportunities to explore the island of Gigha, Jura and Islay by local ferry. Tarbert is nice to walk around with unique shops and eating places. Campbeltown has a small cinema and a nice cafe called 'Bluebells'. We only had a short visit but you do come back feeling refreshed. As we have family to visit this accomodation is our first choice.

Thankyou. Very convenient and comfort
Tips:There is nowhere close to eat in the evening unless you reheat food from the cafe which closes at 5. The other facilities are great but if you wants cooked breakfast it is extra. The dog was welcome.

Owner Response:Thanks for your lovely review, the Argyll Hotel is nearby at Bellochantuy - a 5 minute drive. We made the decision not to offer cooking facilities as it would not be suitable for 4 sets of people to be cooking and eating in the kitchen/dining area. We offer a number of dishes (that we prepare in the cafe) for you to heat and serve and have found that this suits those who wish to eat at the House rather than exploring the area. We have found that many guests enjoy the continental breakfast we offer alternativly we offer breakfast in the cafe from 9am - we offer free breakfast rolls to guests booking direct who stay for 2 nights or more.

Great location and room, unfortunately very noisy with workmen staying in the other rooms and a very early wake up call due to them. Then very little food left for breakfast.
Tips:Great little place but probably better at the weekend when there are no workmen around. other than that a great location with lots to do if you like the outdoors.
Would Recommend: No
Owner Response:Thank you for your kind review, I realise that on this occasion there were other people staying in the house who were up quite early and this can disturb guests, as your room is on the ground floor this means that you do, unfortunately hear people going up and downstairs. PS: we don't have workmen staying that often.

We didn’t have the food provided as we didn’t get round to booking meals as it was a bit last minute. We picked up ready meals from the coop on the way but noticed a sign saying only to heat up food provided by the owners. This was a bit annoying as while we understand why this is the case especially if several groups are staying it would have been helpful to know this in advance. Otherwise everything was wonderful and the owners were very friendly and helpful.
Tips:The Argyll Hotel down the road is right on the beach and has fantastic sea views

Owner Response:Thank you for your kind review, we were delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. Just to confirm, we always send out a welcome email to our guests prior to their stay informing them of how to find us and what facilities we offer and we always include the following: The House at Glenbarr has accommodation of 4 bedrooms with either en-suite or private WC/shower. There is a lounge/kitchen/dining area; open plan. Guests are able to use the microwave/oven in the kitchen in order to heat up the meals that we supply. We can also offer a packed lunch. If you would like to take advantage of this or any of the other menu options please contact us. This way we feel that we are giving enough advanced warning of the kitchen set up.

We had a lovely stay, very clean and comfortable. Decent breakfast, loved the Gigha milk. It felt homely. Only downfall is not having wifi code in the room.

Lovely house, well presented, with modern room and en suite and a comfortable sitting room with dining area for guests. Good continental breakfast provided.
Tips:Good location near the West kintyre coast between Tarbert and Cambletown. Near tayinloan ferry for Ise of f Gigha. Good restsurants at royal hotel Cambletown and old clubhouse at Macrahanish - about 20 and 25 minutes drive from Glenbarr. Plenty of walking and beaches in Kintyre. Continental breakfast included at the House but cooked breakfast available in the owner’s adjacent cafe at extra cost. I feel a hot breakfast should have been included as this was not an inexpensive B and B.

The House at Glenbarr is an excellent location from which to explore the amazing surrounding landscape. The amenities are without fault and all the staff are very kind and courteous. We found the atmosphere of tranquility and calmness suited us with nothing being too much trouble. You won't be disappointed if you book to stay here.
Tips:We flew to Glasgow then took a Citibus to Campbeltown which whilst lengthy, enabled us to view all the beautiful Lochs and surrounding countryside. We hired a car from 'Kintyre Hire' which was directly opposite the bus stop in Campbeltown, so that was very easy. This firm do deliver cars to Glasgow airport or Campbeltown airport if required. In between visiting family, we visited Carradale, the Mull of Kintyre, Saddle and Tarbert. All these locations are quaint with wonderful surrounding countryside. 'The Bluebell' Cafe in Campbeltown was an excellent place to eat with quick service and tasty food. We also ate at 'The House at Glenbarr, as it was lovely and fitted in with our schedule. The Argyl Hotel is a consideration but I preferred where we were staying. The people you meet are happy and friendly so go some way to make up for the limited amenities in Campbeltown itself. The history of Campbeltown is interesting but our main priority was to take in the surrounding countryside. On our next visit we will be exploring more with a trip over to the Isles of Gigha. If you love beaches and surfing there are numerous spots to set up a camper can and take to the sea.

For my holidays it was the right place. A place to come down and relax.
