5th December 2024:
I had the most enjoyable 2 day stay with Ken (and his delightful dog, Tilly!). From the very helpful pre-arrival information to the warm welcome at the front door, nothing was too much trouble. It felt like a real home from home for my business trip. I will be recommending this to friends and family...a perfect place to stay on the beautiful Cowal Peninsula.
Tips:There are so many lovely walks and scenic drives to enjoy...all within easy distance of Dunoon. I enjoyed a couple of great meals at the local restuarant/bar "The Lorne". Thanks Ken for that recommendation!

26th October 2024:
Very clean; good quality and excellent breakfast options (the locally smoked salmon was exceptional), tunnock's tea cake each night; friendly and helpful host; I was able to store my bike safely; Host was considerate and offered an early check-in due to Storm Ashley. Tillie the dog was a delightful bonus! Much more homely and welcoming than a hotel and had fantastic views over the water to the mainland. If you are short on things to do, Ken is very knowledgeable on places to visit and how to get there. Highly recommended!
Tips:Puck's Glen Benmore Woodland Chinese Ponds Holy Loch Nature Reserve The Lorne (restaurant) Rock Cafe

A lovely comfortable and relaxing place to stay in a beautiful location overlooking the Clyde. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the breakfast menu is varied and delicious. The owner, Ken, is welcoming, friendly and helpful. I always choose to stay at Douglas Park when visiting the area
Tips:For meals The Lorne in Dunoon is hard to beat, tasty food, reasonably prices and friendly and efficient staff. The Boat House at West Bay is ideal for afternoon coffee and delicious cakes. Benmore Gardens, 4 miles away is an amazing place with an avenue of giant redwood trees, a large fernery, moss garden, walks, scenery, it's got the lot. Can be reached by car or bus (£3.85 for a 24 hour bus ticket - bargain) Dunoon Museum is very interesting to learn about local history

2nd September 2024:
Ken is the consummate host and the nicely landscaped guest house is lovely inside and out. Hard to beat the view of the loch. Enjoying that during the exquisite breakfast will remain a fond memory. We would return in a heartbeat.
Tips:The Castle Museum is good and the downtown walking fun. The Lorne serves great meals. The food at The 51st State wasn’t the best but it’s worth stopping in for chips and a beer while enjoying the creative USA memorabilia and learning about the thirty-year submarine base connection between the USA and Dunoon.

28th August 2024:
Ken was so very helpful regarding what to see and do in the area. He also kindly lent me his phone charger for the car I had rented. Nothing was too much trouble for him. The Scottish breakfasts were superb! I tried haggis and black pudding and even a wee dram of whiskey on my porridge with cream. There was so much choice with cereals, fruit, toast, bacon and eggs, etc. The views from this Guesthouse are gorgeous too and I took photos every morning while at breakfast and late afternoon. I am travelling by myself and felt very safe here. I really hope to return one day. Thx very much Ken.
Tips:CastleHouse Museum have great staff who are very knowledgeable (I was asking about my ancestors who used to live at Kilmun) and it's a very interesting museum to learn about Dunoon's past. Kilmun Historical Church is also definitely worth a visit because of its history and beautiful stained glass windows and water run musical organ. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and give you interesting info.

27th August 2024:
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Douglas Park Guest House with my brother for a week, and I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences we've ever had. From the moment we arrived, Ken, our host, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. His exceptional service truly made our stay unforgettable. The guest house itself is a hidden gem—charming, cozy, and impeccably maintained. The attention to detail in every aspect of the property is evident, from the beautifully decorated rooms to the cozy atmosphere in the dining area. Each morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast that set the tone for a fantastic day ahead. Ken’s hospitality was unmatched. He was always available to offer recommendations, share local insights, and ensure we had everything we needed. It’s clear that he takes great pride in his guest house and in making sure every guest has a wonderful stay. We couldn’t be happier with our time at Douglas Park Guest House and are beyond grateful for the experience. We can’t wait to return as soon as possible! If you’re looking for a place to stay that feels like a home away from home, with outstanding service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, look no further than Douglas Park Guest House. Thank you, Ken, for making our stay so special—we’ll be back soon!

Lovely Host, beautiful room with amazing views. Immaculately clean, delicious breakfasts, perfect location.
Tips:Book in advance for restaurants. We went to Lorne which was nice and Chatters which was brilliant in Dunoon. Blairmore cafe also lovely. Coylett inn, lovely, overlooks loch Eck. Deffinatly go on the Waverley steamer if it's coming in while you are there. Wreckspectactations was brilliant, based on Holy Loch Marina, a guy called Jason runs it and is lovely. Pucks Glen is a must, as is Mount Stuart on the isle of Bute. Also Inverary castle and the town itself is lovely. Getting s ferry to Tarbetbuscalso a lovely little trip

Douglas Park is a beautiful guest house situated in Kirn, close to Dunoon. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean. Great showers with plenty hot water. Ken is a wonderful host along with Tilly the dog. His breakfasts are delicous. Nothing is to much trouble for Ken and he is so friendly. I've been coming back here for years and will be back next year.
Tips:Kirn is only a 20 minute walk from the centre of Dunoon. The house looks out over the sea and dolphins can often be seen as well as cruise liners and fishing boats. It's easy to get to by ferry from Gourock. Plenty places to eat locally, my favourite being the Lorne. Kirn is a great location for visiting the local area.

15th July 2024:
Linda’s review of the Douglas Park “This truly is an exceptional guest house, and we have stayed in quite a few over the years. The building is a gem with high ceilings, a stately staircase and original features. The welcome from Ken and help we received from the moment we arrived set us up for the next 3 nights. He suggested a location for our first evenings dinner ( always a dilemma on arriving in a new place we find )and on taking up his recommendation , he booked it for us. It was a good choice too.. We had a comfortable downstairs room which looks to the rear, that had its own separate bathroom, but this was only a few steps away , was spacious and there were dressing gowns in the wardrobe ; A thoughtful touch. With no traffic noise . We slept well. The residents lounge has a lovely sea view, so we made good use of it each evening, watching the boats coming and goings and yes.. saw the porpoises. Breakfasts are superb.. lovely fresh fruit salads, yoghurts seeds etc. Not being Full scottish eaters we found The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs particularly delicious. Ken truly is a superb host who truly loves where he lives , who has created a relaxing, restful , luxurious oasis, that is worthy of an Alastair Sawday listing. We hope to return soon..”

Kenneth is a wonderful host, whose management of the period home with several well appointed bedrooms, living area, and dining room, was excellent. All the bedrooms with private bathrooms were neat as a pin, and the breakfasts each morning were ample, selected the evening before from a diverse menu of items. Our second floor room overlooked the firth. We found it endlessly fascinating to watch the stream of sailing craft, ferries, porpoises, fowl, and so on. Kenneth was affable, generous with his time, and a repository of information about resources in the area. We will certainly stay here upon our return to Dunoon.
Tips:We particularly enjoyed our walks through the Benmore Botanic Garden...incredible! And a long excellent lunch at the at The Ardentinny on Loch Long's west bank.

The place to stay if visiting Dunoon! What’s not to like about this charming Victorian villa right in the seafront with a short walk into town. We had a wonderful two day stay here. The accommodation is of a very high standard, from the beautiful furnishings in the bedroom to the added special touches which support and celebrate local businesses, including the beautiful teacups and saucers in the bedrooms . We particularly liked the tasty breakfast, in the dining room with its amazing views of the passing boats. Ken is a very welcoming host with lots of local knowledge and Tilly is just the friendliest wee dog who also made us feel very welcome.

A superb stay at Douglas Park. Ken is a very welcoming and attentive host. We had a spectacular Room With A View (Room 4) which was well furnished and absolutely spotless. Breakfast was outstanding. We will certainly be back.
Tips:In Dunoon the Lorne Bar was great for an evening meal - an extensive menu of good dishes. Argyll Vintners on Hillfoot Street is also well worth a visit for a glass of wine and purchase of very reasonably priced wines. Again, we will be back to both.

Lovely stay at Douglas Park while we were catching up with family in the town. Kenneth belongs to a well-known family in the town who have always been in the hospitality business, and it shows! 17th September 2023:
The house is very relaxed and welcoming. The first thing you see on entering is a cosy looking lounge with fantastic views over the Clyde Estuary. There may be a little dog called Tilly sitting at the window watching out for the latest arrivals (the owner, Ken, keeps her out of the way if any non dog friendly guests arrive). I stayed twice at Douglas Park during a 2 week period. Both my rooms were very comfortable. Both looked over the back yard so no view, but were very quiet, which was ideal for a light sleeper like me. A kettle with drinks sachets and some snacks were provided, and lovely floral teacups with a Tunnocks teacake on top. Everywhere were little touchs like that to make the guests feel at home. Needless to say, the rooms were spotlessly clean. Breakfast was in a big, light, spacious room with splendid views of the water. Fantastic fresh food was served up by Ken, (shout out for the haggis 😊), the host, who is a friendly, lively, fun person, full of stories and information about the area. The breakfast room turned out to be quite a social venue, and I ended up getting to know the other guests there. Douglas Park is a great base for a trip to the Cowal Peninsula. I will be recommending it to friends and family. Thank you Ken, and Tilly!
Tips:Benmore Botanic Gardens - superb day out Tighnabruaich - a pretty town about 40 mins drive away through stunning scenery (also Colintraive and Portavadie in the same area, both worth a visit) Blairmore cafe at the other side of the Holy Loch - wonderful cafe in a lovely location facing Loch Long.

I would definitely recommend Douglas Park Guest House for its warm welcome, friendliness, cleanliness and comfort. The delicious breakfast is well worth getting out of bed for, plenty of choice and very tasty, ensuring a good start to the day. Facing the river and surrounded by beautiful scenery it's the perfect place to relax, while also being an ideal base for exploring the area.
Tips:The Lorne is a bar and restaurant in Dunoon about a mile from the guest house. It has an extensive menu and friendly, helpful staff making it a great place to pop in for a drink or relax with friends and family over a meal. Benmore Botanic Garden is well worth a visit with paths to explore, you can walk among Giant Redwoods, mosses and huge ferns and look out for red squirrels and other wildlife. There's so much to see

Friendly, welcoming, helpful, nothing too much trouble. We arrived as strangers and left as friends!
Tips:Would definately recommend The Lorne for Dinner. Loch Eck is very nearby and is so peaceful if you pull in and sit a while. The whole area of Dunoon and The Trossachs is beautiful, far too much to take in in just a short trip so we will be back.

Once again a wonderful time spent at Douglas Park to experience the Cowal Gathering. Ken is an excellent host, nothing is too much and he genuinely cares about his guests. The guest house is spotless with comfortable beds, fabuous breakfast and Tunnocks Tea Cakes in the room every day...what's not to like.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Douglas Park very much. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with an amazing seaview. The quality and choice of breakfast was something to look forward to each morning.
Tips:We would definitely recommend going for a lovely drive towards Blairmore and stopping at the charming cafè and next-door shop for gifts and foodie treats. We loved our mini break at Douglas Park guest house. Ken, the host, is kind, friendly and helpful. He runs an impeccable guest house and has great knowledge of the local area. His dog Tilly is the cutest wee thing and so well behaved! The breakfast, which was served by Lewis, was incredible: fresh fruit salad; homemade marmalade, and not to mention the perfect cooked breakfast. We will be back!
Tips:Toward, a 15 min drive, was amazing if you like to get in the water and go pier jumping. There’s plenty places to eat in Dunoon but booking is best. We are at The Lorne, which was great. The chippy close to the pier would be a recommendation too.

My travel partner and I really enjoyed our stay at Douglas Park Guest House. The rooms and shared spaces were all tastefully decorated and well maintained/cleaned. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful and Kenny the host was fantastic. He gave us several recommendations and even helped us book a last minute trip out on the water with Wreckspeditions (also highly recommend). We were sad to leave and I hope to visit again some day.

Two splendid days: From our greeting on the doorstep to our delightfully served breakfast, Ken’s ministrations have enabled us to relax and unwind after what had been a somewhat stressful journey to Dunoon. There is ample off-road parking - always a bonus. Our room with exclusive bathroom measures up to the highest standards. There is a bountiful welcome tray for tea/coffee making provided, along with tasty biscuits and bottled water that I find has been replenished whilst out for the day. We have bath robes hanging in the wardrobe, ready to don whilst walking the two strides to the bathroom. Everything is tip-top, every detail is covered. The lounge is comfortable and roomy. We feel very much at home here and can recommend Douglas Park to any prospective travellers without reservation. Oh, terrific views over the water to Gourock and promenade walks across the road are an added benefit.

Excellent accommodation with friendly and obliging host. Owner went out of his way to be helpful to me as I don't drive. Breakfast was delicious and just as I ordered.
Tips:I found the cafes in Dunoon to be very good with tasty food and cheerful staff. As I was there for a Convention I didn't have much chance to explore the area, but feel that a car is essential to make the most of one's stay. I'm sure the bus service is fine but I found the timetable hard to decipher. There should be a covered waiting area for those foot travellers waiting for the ferry. I intend to return in the summer to visit the Benmore Botanical Gardens as I know there's a dedicated bus service going there.

18th February 2023:
Beautiful guest house overlooking water. Prime location. We were welcomed by Ken who couldn't do enough to ensure our needs were met. Our room was spotless, large, very spacious with a large bay window. There was nothing lacking. Ken had even supplied binoculars to engage in the spectacular view. Breakfast was amazing. Excellent choice of hot and continental. Id never stayed in a guest house before, and had concerns that I'd be aware I was in someone's house, however soon forgot about that when in room. Rooms decorated to a very high standard, spotless. We opted for deluxe, and that's what we received. Beautiful wee tillie the family dog made us feel right at home too. Will definitely return, and would highly recommend.
Tips:We were only there one night but enjoyed our meal at state 51. Food was lovely, well presented.

2nd February 2023:
What an excellent B&B; I always make a point of booking with a local business instead of a big chain hotel, yet again, it paid off. Ken and his beautiful little dog, Tilly, run a tight ship. Ken is kind and welcoming, and nothing is too big of an ask. My friend and I stayed in the twin garden room and had the most pleasant stay; the water pressure in the shower was fantastic! The view is ever-changing from the dining room and beautiful even on the most miserable rainy days. Ken is a Dunoon man born and bred, so he has a fantastic knowledge of the local area with a great map of where best to visit. Absolutely recommend, and could not fault it.
Tips:The Lorne Bar and Kitchen do the most beautiful food, fresh ingredients and good vegetarian options and for a takeaway, the Three in One Takeaway do amazing pizzas.

Stayed here for two days as working at our office in Dunoon. Ken was very welcoming and so was little Tilly, always near to ask how you were and if you needed anything. Little extras in room, especially the Teacakes! Thank you so much for making my stay enjoyable, breakfast with a view, and what a view! Wish I could have had time to look through the binoculars but will definitely be back, but this time as a holiday.

From the moment we arrived, l felt totally relaxed. Our beautiful room and en suite, with thee most beautiful view, watching the sun rise, was quite spectacular. Breakfasts again very good, but l felt 9am was just a wee bit early for us, but other than that minor thing, could not be more impressed. Ken, an absolute gent, nothing too much trouble for him.

Luxury 'home-from-home' accomodation. Just the sort of refuge you want to repair to after a 'hard day on the hill'. Dwight Eisenhour later US President is quoted as saying "Hindsight is more accurate than foresight, but less useful". Douglas Park fortunately employs foresight skillfully...
Tips:Front rooms overlook Clyde estuary has a vista with an outlook changing by the minute. Binoculars provided in room, or bring your own personalized ones. Local map provided with guidance for meals/tours etc. Only a short walk from frequent Dunoon/Gourock ferry quay, means a motorvehical not needed by the enthusiastic walker/cyclist.

Everything about the Douglas Park Guest House is ideal. We greatly enjoyed our weekend. The rooms are comfortable, spotlessly clean, and tastefully decorated and furnished. The unique selling point is the welcome and friendly care of his guests given by Ken. Fine breakfasts, and the delightful 'Tilly.' Thank you for everything. We will be back.
Tips:A day trip to the Isle of Bute, taking the car ferry from Colintraive to Rhubadoch. We left Dunoon in rain and arrived on Bute, less than an hour later, in glorious warm sunshine. Can't promise it would always be like that, but the beauty of the drive round the Cowal peninsular and on Bute is worth seeing at any time.

Kenny is a terrific host. Breakfast was plentiful and tasted wonderful. The rooms are all great, but if you can book the one that overlooks the Firth and lochs, you will appreciate the view. Also, trust Kenny when he tells you what the weather will be!
Tips:A great restaurant in Dunoon is The Lorne. Food and staff were fantastic. Another restaurant is the Coylet Inn located on the beautiful Loch Eck. It is about 15 minutes north of the B&B on A815. The owner, Carl, is an avid hunter and fisherman. Much of the menu is provided by Carl's successes. I would also recommend a visit to the Benmore Botanic Gardens in between Dunoon and Coylet.

When planning our holiday in Dunoon we were very impressed by the excellent reviews that were given to Douglas Park GH. So glad we chose to stay there. No doubt that these reviews are genuine and the excellent rating is truly justified, Thanks to Ken we had a very comfortable and enjoyable holiday starting each day with a wonderful view of the Firth of Clyde and a delicious breakfast.
Tips:Ken will give you lots of advice about Dunoon and its surroundings. Ben More Botanic Gardens are outstanding takes most of a day to visit. For sightseeing we enjoyed Tighnabruaich and Portavadie. Halibut served at the Marina at Portavadie was delicious - unbeatable indeed. The hill road from Otter Ferry to Glendaruel is very narrow and very steep in parts so think twice about your route if you are not a confident driver.

Going to Dunoon? Well don’t bother searching through all the booking sites etc., here’s a shortcut to the best B&B accommodation in Dunoon – just type in Douglas Park Guest House. Ken, the proprietor, has been in the hospitality sector for a long time and knows what he is doing in terms of providing the best experience for visitors to this immaculate Guest House. This is borne out by the world map in the entrance hall that is covered with coloured pins indicating satisfied visitors from all corners of the globe. At the first, second, and third time of visiting this B&B we have never been disappointed. One specific feature is a guest lounge which, unlike many B&B’s/Guest Houses, can be use at any time, so you are not turfed out after breakfast! And the view from the lounge is amazing. Here, the Clyde is no longer just a river flowing through Glasgow, it is a wide entrance to the open sea with boats of all sizes (ferries, tankers, cruise ships and submarines) passing through one of the most iconic waterways in the world. As indicated above, just search for Douglas Park Guest House when planning a visit to Dunoon, you will not be disappointed.

Tips:The Lorne restaurant in Dunoon is very good. We enjoyed a day exploring Bute, via the Colintraive vehicle ferry, and a day closer to Dunoon walking round the town then visiting Benmore Gardens, Blairmore cafe and Puck's Glen - a lovely woodland walk with waterfalls, though be aware some of the route is steep and a bit slippery.

Last weekend, 4 ladies drove 202 miles for a quilting weekend at Douglas Park. A wonderful weekend had by all. Warm welcome , arriving to a tasty supper from Ken; 2 days of quilting in a superb sewing room; delicious food, all homemade with homebakes at morning and afternoon break. All we had to bring were our own sewing machines and projects. Lovely rooms. A treat to watch the sun rise over the Clyde. We were too early in the year to watch the Waverley Paddle Steamer sail by. Perhaps we'll see her or sail on her during our next retreat. The house was spotless with great attention to detail through out. Rooms all co-ordinated We shared a weekend of laughter, quilting with no cooking or washing dishes. We thank Ken for his hard work, hospitality and for facilitaing a quilting retreat. The 4 of us left better friends than ever. We would highly recommend a retreat weekend whether it's for quilting, crochet or knitting. Even if there is only 2 of you or you would like to go on your own to meet other like minded crafter - contact Ken, you won't regret it. Thank you so much Ken. My husband and I have also stayed at Douglas Park for B&B. Highly recommend it to you all.
Tips:We had an afternoon walk to the aladin's cave of a sewing shop, not far from Douglas Park. An amazing selection of fabric and wools. The 2 Alisons, running the shop that day, shared a fountain of information, making us very welcome. Worth a visit, if you love fabrics, wools and crafts.

After a difficult few months I was invited as part of a small group to enjoy Ken's hospitality for a quilting retreat. Retreat is exactly what it was. Ken was a fantastic host. Nothing was too much trouble. The meals. The home baking. The service and Ken himself were fantastic. The views magnificent. I left this lovely place wanting more. We are returning next year. As the brochure says. Come as a guest, leave as a friend. Thank you for such a relaxing few days.
Tips:Ken is such a brilliant host. If you have any queries or questions he has the solution and answers.

Kenny was a great host and the views across the water from the dining room stupendously beautiful. Kenny has been in the Dunoon area for a long time and his family genuinely loves the place unlike so many of us who take our own back yards for granted. The room I had was warm and cosy and the bed had a very comfortable mattress. It is a lovely spot and I would highly recommend this as a place to stay. Thank you Kenny and Tilley! Have a great season and I hope to see you both again sometime soon.
Tips:Explore the countryside and the sea treat it with respect and please leave your camper vans at home.

8th October 2021:
Perfect location with uninterrupted views across the Firth of Clyde and surrounding lochs from the lounge, dining room and front bedrooms. About one mile from the ferry to the north and a 20 minute flat walk along a beautiful, clean seafront into town. Douglas Park is spotlessly clean and comfortable and offers lots of little touches one would only expect to find in much more expensive accommodation - daily replenishment of toiletries, refreshments (including tea, coffee, biscuits, Tunnocks marshmallows, chocolates and a fresh bottle of tap water - and tempting sweets on the hall table). The host is very welcoming, extremely accommodating, keen to ensure you enjoy your stay. The breakfasts were super; plenty of choice and everything perfectly cooked - the best porridge I've had in any hotel. I would happily recommend Douglas Park and certainly would make it our choice of accommodation if we return to the area.
Tips:Read the information booklet in the room as soon as you arrive in which you will discover how to use the powerful shower and that you can request extra pillows among other useful details. We ate at the Lorne Bar in town. It was recommended by our host and didn't disappoint with lots of choice of good food. Very busy, so book in advance. Would highly recommend. Also Duck Bay restaurant on the side of Loch Lomond was an unexpected find for lovely coffee and gorgeous pastries. Also serving breakfast, lunch and evening meals, which we didn't try having been served a full breakfast at Douglas Park, but the menu looked tempting and venue superb . We recommend a visit to Benmore Botanic Gardens, only about 5 miles away. Inverary is a lovely town to visit with its black and white buildings and beautiful scenery. Driving around the lochs and stopping to take in the awesome sights is a must, especially on the clear, sunny, autumn days that we were fortunate enough to enjoy.

Ken was the perfect host, made us feel at ease and welcome. Tunnocks teacakes in our room to go with our tea/coffee was a nice extra touch. The room was lovely, comfortable and well equipped with a terrific sea view. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of options. I would cxertainly recommend Douglas Park Guest House to anyone intending to visit this beautiful area.
Tips:We came here primarily for the Cowal Open Studios event. If you are interested in art, it is well worth the effort to get here when this is on. There is a huge variety of different types of art on display, mostly in the artists' own studios and the standard is very high. Elsewhere, Benmore Gardens is excellent, and the coast road from the ferry terminal down past Toward point is good for cycling - flat and reasonably quiet.

Located on the sea front in lovely seaside setting of Kirn about a mile pleasant stroll along the promenade to Dunoon town centre. There is a bus stop right outside if the walk is too much for you. Handy for the Hunters Quay car ferry this smart and clean B&B offers great views across the Firth of Clyde and is highly recommended. Kenny the owner ensures everyone feels at home and the standards he maintains would put some 4 star hotels to shame. Nice touches like the binoculars in the room to observe the wonderful sealife the Clyde presents are an example of this. The Tunnick Tea Cakes another. The breakfast menu is delicious and consistently good no matter what you order. For us this was the best B&B we have stayed in.
Tips:Kenny is quite rightly proud of Dunoon and is more than happy to share his knowledge of the area with guests. For example he booked ahead our Evening Meal for the day we arrived after a long drive to Dunoon at The Lorne. The food was great and the staff really helpful. It saved us from a great deal of hassle in finding somewhere good to eat. If you travel across to Gourock on the ferry , the Cafe Continental was very good. We also made use of the reasonable public transport on the Cowel peninsula and a day ticket is from only £2.99 . The Shore cafe is lovely at Blairmore and later that same day we visited the Osbourne House in Innellen for a lovely evening meal. All accessible from the B&B on bus route outside. Benmore Gardens is a must visit too. If possible get along to Largs on the Clyde Coast too.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel most welcome by Kenny and wee Tilly the dog. Kenny is a very kind person and nothing is too much trouble for him to ensure your stay is perfect. Kenny had a 'new start' Callum for our breakfast waiter. Every day we watched Callum grow in confidence and I am sure under Kenny's guidance Callum will develop the gift of the banter too. Everything about Douglas Park is amazing. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay there. One week was not enough. My shoulders, normally around my ears, relaxed and I felt the stress ebb away. Watch out for the Ducks! Thanks again Kenny - you are amazing. Yx

A fabulous place to stay. Ken made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived and having tea and shortbread in the lounge looking out onto an amazing view was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and the attention to detail was excellent. The room was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable and the large bathroom was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious (I can recommend the porridge) and the never ending teapot was a joy. We were so relaxed we felt as though we were spending a couple of nights with a good friend in their beautiful home. Thank you so much, we will be back soon.
Tips:The Tree Shop on the road to Inveraray is worth a visit as is Inveraray itself. Try the apple strudel in Brambles on Main Street, you won’t be disappointed. Also worth a visit is The Blairmore cafe in Blairmore. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly.

There is no better place to spend your visit to Dunoon. Fantastic quality of accomodation plus extra attention to detail. The host is warm and knowledgeable. We have dietary requirements which were well catered for. The Douglas Park even comes equipped with a bundle of fluff with waggy tail, named Tilly. Ken is very sensitive to the needs of those who may not be comfortable around dogs. We would barely have known she was there most of the time, as like us, she was very happy on a chair in front of the incredible views.
Tips:There are so many breathtaking spots around Dunoon. We visited Toward, Castle Lachlan, Fyne Ales, The Strone Cafe, Tighnabruaich, Blairmore. Wherever we went, people were friendly and helpful.

31st May 2021:
Such a friendly guest house from arriving until leaving. Definitely one to return to and confidently recommend to others. Situated on the shoreline with fabulous different views every day. We saw 5 Bottlenose dolphins and porpoises during our stay along with various navy ships, boats and even a submarine! We stayed in room 4 which was a luxurious king with a large ensuite. Tastefully decorated with great views from the comfortable seats situated in front of the huge windows. A large choice was offered at breakfast including the usual hot & cold foods but also haggis, haddock, salmon and a delicious brie & bacon crumpet. One morning we even had homemade rhubarb freshly picked locally. Thanks Ken, for making me eat Tunnocks teacakes and liquorice toffees everyday!!
Tips:The Lorne restaurant and The Ardentinny Inn I would recommend for cocktails and dinner. Pucks Glen was great for an interesting walk with a waterfall and Benmore Gardens a must! Their ice cream and homemade cakes in the van outside were delicious and well deserved after our wandering around the beautiful gardens. Driving out along any of the coast roads were spectacular wherever you ended up!

Owner Response:Thank you for a wonderful glowing review! I must point out that I didn't force ay tea-cakes or toffees on you! Purely self inflicted!! So pleased my call to Downing Street succeeded in arranging a submarine to sail by, and the Dolphins were a real Brucie bonus. Do come back again soon! best wishes Ken & Tilly

Great stay in this lovely guest house - Kenneth is a brilliant host and we felt really spoilt. Our room overlooked the Firth of Clyde and we saw porpoise several times - great views. All was very comfortable and immaculately clean. Breakfast was delicious - we had full bacon & egg breskfast the first day and smoked salmon and scrambled egg the second - all excellent.
Tips:Great fish & chips from Dunoon - ask Kenneth for the recommendation. Visited the island of Bute - lovely views of the isle of Arran.

Excellent guest house!! Friendly owner, Ken. Fabulous breakfast with plenty of choice. Spotlessly clean room & en-suite bathroom. Nice little touches, which are not always available in high end hotels, such as bottled water, Tunnocks tea cakes, herbal tea and bathroom extras such as cotton pads & buds, hand sanitiser and bath robes. As returnees we know to choose room 4 with its amazing views over the water. We always try to book in here when visiting family in the area.

Excellent service and top class highland hospitality. Very comfortable accommodation, and although the bed was comfortable, bedroom well laid out my room did not have the en-suite, but a shower room for exclusive use of guests in this room. Food excellent, service excellent as was off road parking at the front. Tilly (the wee dug) was very welcoming, friendly and a great character. Your host at the Douglas Park is very accommodating and can even provide needle and thread for the repair of seams etc. Highly recommended.
Tips:The Ardentinny lochside restaurant.....great place to eat. Due tolockdown nothing was open in Dunoon when I was there.

We had a wonderful stay at the DP the room was lovely and we had a beautiful sea view just sitting looking out over the water was so calming, and our host Ken couldn’t do enough for us, the breakfast is amazing, any kind of cooked breakfast you want including smoked salmon or smoked haddock or kippers, and the usual, bacon, black pudding, haggis, sausage, ect and eggs anyway you want them, they even have a DP specialty crumpet with bacon & brie, ken is very kind and considerate, and we definitely will be back in the near future. Sandra & Paul from Glasgow.
Tips:The Argyle hotel has lovely food, and the Italian restaurant next door that is part of the hotel, the food is lovely in there also, we also had a nice meal at the Lorne, if it’s a sunny day it’s just nice to walk along the beach. There’s also putting and swimming if it’s opened, there’s also an activity place for bigger children, with archery ect, although we were not there long enough to go many places, and we only had one really sunny day.

Home from Home as soon we stepped through the door. Amazing breakfasts and would recommend the porridge with a dram of Whisky to start and then Bacon, Brie and Sweet Chilli Crumpet. We had an amazing view from our room and at night sat and watched the Porpoises and the Fishermen gathering their Creels. There were a pair of Binoculars in the room along with hot water bottles, which were a lovely touch. Ken made us feel like family and little Tilly loved cuddles and her belly rubbed. I cannot recommend this place enough and so glad we chose here and not the St Ives, which I did not like the look of once seeing in true light in Dunoon! Room tip - upgrade to King Bed Room!
Tips:It’s a 20 minute flat easy walk into Dunoon. We visited a lovely Vintage Tea Room called Deja vu for lunch and they did amazing soup, Toasties and Home Baking. The Argyll is nice for dinner and from 4,30 they do two courses for £9.95 and the courses are a good size. Drive to Oban if you can and also take the road to Portavadie- Breathtaking scenery!

Immaculately presented guest house, staff welcoming and friendly. Beautiful views and gorgeous rooms. One of the best guest houses I have stayed in personally, it was just pristine throughout with beautiful decor and very homely. The breakfast options were outstanding and you must try the haggis or a wee dram in your porridge. Ken the owner made us feel so welcome.
Tips:If you love to walk there’s plenty at nearby Benmore anything from beginner to a bit more strenuous with gorgeous views of Loch Eck and/or the beautiful Scottish landscape and forests. Taking a right out of the guest house towards loch striven you can appreciate the lovely views of the Isle of Bute and Cumbria. The holy loch and loch long are on your doorstep too so it’s a great base to see several Scottish lochs over a few days.

The Douglas Park Guest House is lovely, our room was very nice and extremely comfortable. Ken and Shona are lovely people. Ken was a very attentive host - nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was delicious and served very promptly. The views from the breakfast room are stunning- a fantastic way to start your day! However, beware the Tunnocks tea cake you will find on your tea tray they are very very addictive!!!
Tips:Take the Colintraive Ferry to Bute. We had a great day wandering around Mount Stuart (the House wasn’t open but the grounds are incredible.) Have lunch at the Kingarth Hotel and Smiddy Bar; beautiful food, wonderful hosts and a warm and cosy welcome! Then drive to Scalpsie Beach to look at the basking seals - paradise! Back to Dunoon, have dinner at the Lorne or 51st State both very different, but both offer the friendly Scottish welcome we came to expect! Want a coffee? Pop and see Rosemary in the Rock cafe! Lovely mug of coffee and a chip butty!!! Everywhere you go you will blow your mind with the stunning views - we can’t wait to return!

We were warmly greeted with tea and homemade shortbread. Kenneth and Shona were friendly and helpful. The rooms were lovely with lots of thoughtful touches and there was a view over the water from the sitting room, where binoculars and a telescope were there to watch the porpoises. Breakfast was perfectly cooked and the porridge, served with cream and whisky, was a real treat. We only stayed one night as we are travelling to Mull. It is an exceptional B&B.
Tips:We met up with friends for fish and chips at Anselmo’s. Very good fish and “twice dipped” chips and homemade tartare sauce. The Castle museum was closed as we were there in the evening but it’s a nice walk up to the viewpoint.

We have stayed here quite a few times and love it, Ken & Shona are great hosts, very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are lovely and have been lucky with all our stays to have a sea view, stunning views over the Firth of Clyde, Ken does a fab breakfast, you don’t need much till teatime. We would highly recommend Douglas Park to anyone wanting a great place to stay in Dunoon.
Tips:Lots to see and do, great restaurants and lovely walks, short drives to lots of even more stunning scenery.

A very warm welcome awaited me at Douglas Park . This was a return visit for me and everything was just as I remembered it. Very comfortable room with lovely bed linen and towels. The hot water bottle was a very welcome addition, not because I was cold, but I found it extremely comforting as I was recovering from a bereavement. The breakfast was every bit as delicious as I remembered. I would highly recommend Douglas Park as a wonderful place to stay on a visit to Cowal.
Tips:Highly recommended as a very warm and pleasant place to stay. Plenty to do in Cowal, walks, beaches, shops, wonderful scenery and Benmore Botanic Gardens all within easy reach.

Beautiful house, delicious food and a truly warm welcome from Shona and Ken. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I will certainly be going back for more pampering.
Tips:I was there for a Quilting Retreat and found the little craft shop Binty and Baa, which is just yards along the road, a real treasure house of craft, knitting and quilting supplies.
