The very best and most welcoming hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for Karmen and Gabor. Comfortable bed, spotlessly clean, delicious breakfast make for a great stay. Their home is in a great location for a stay in Tighnabruaich and they provide all the information you need for an enjoyable stay.

Lovely, friendly hosts. Beautiful house with amazing views. Lots of lovely walks, close by.
Tips:Ostel bay , stunning beach overlooking Isle of Arran, only a 10 minute drive from the BnB. Park next to the Bothie and then approximately a 20 minute walk to the beach, wellies or boots recommended, walking boggy in places. The Bothie is a small cafe. Colintraive hotel, delicious food.

This is by far the best guesthouse accommodation we have experienced anywhere. The hospitality, cleanliness, catering, ambiance and setting are outstanding. Nothing was too much bother for our hosts and it was a delight having home-made bread and jam at breakfast along with locally-based produce and never-ending tea and coffee. Absolute bliss of a stay. Thank you Karmen and Gobor - two incredibly talented and welcoming people.
Tips:We were a group of four let's say 'mature' walkers on a four-night stay. The area has excellent walking opportunities of varied lengths within a stunning landscape. We used the 'Walkhighands' website for suggested walks. Local cafes provide very good home-baking. Something for everyone with Tighnabruaich village itself well worth time exploring. Karmen and Gabor are also very knowledgeable about the area and happy to share ideas.

Made to feel very welcome by Karmen and Gabor. Great breakfast and really appreciated the afternoon pot of tea on the terrace after a long day’s walking & exploring.
Tips:We loved Kilbride Bay. This is a magical spot with great views over to Arran. Cafe at Kilbride Farm where walk to beach starts. Otter Ferry is also a beautiful spot - bit more of a drive. Had lovely meal at the Oystercatcher pub. Enjoyed food at Kames Hotel.

Our hosts Karmen and Gabor were brilliant. They couldn't do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble. Super friendly. Gabor was an amazing artist and we had a wee tour of his studio which was fab. Dog friendly with places to walk our dog very close by. The breakfast was delicious and the home-made jam not to be missed. A great stay and would definitely recommend!
Tips:A quirky cafe in Tighnabruich called west 5 was lovely and also dog friendly. Botanica at the barn was really good. A great area for exploring if you like to be outdoors.

It was lovely to return to Tregortha. Karmen and Gabor could not do enough to make our stay comfortable, even clearing space in the garage to make room for six large bikes. Another time we will plan to stay longer and spend more time exploring the Cowal peninsular on our bikes. Gabor is an extremely talented artist and has some wonderful prints of his work for sale as souvenirs of the visit.

Tips:Lovely peaceful place to stay. The oystercatcher in Otter Ferry, does lovely food if you can book a table. Kilbride bay is a nice sandy beach to visit if the weather is nice. If you are interested in local history, Dunans castle is worth booking for a tour paired with visiting the Kilmodan stones and Old Castle Lachlan (including the chapel ruin and graveyard). Another excellent stay at Tregortha. Food is superb, service is excellent, Karmen and Gabor have excellent knowledge of the local area and really know how to look after guests. Staying is really a personalised experience. Look forward to our next stay.
Tips:Wewent to Fune Raja a little hidden gem, the food is really good and they now do lunches as well, other places to eat are the Kames Hotel, tide and Thyme or Portavadie marina, mount stuart on Bute is worth a trip, or if its beaches then Ettrick bay or Scalpsie bay, springwatch are filming there this week 30/05/2024. Tips:The Scenery in this area is stunning as is the wildlife. If you have a camera I strongly suggest that you bring it with you on your trip. We have never failed to wildlife that is worth photographing. This is a tip for visitors to Scotland who are not used to driving on Passing Place roads. Karmen and Gabor were perfect hosts. We were made to feel extremely welcome and comfortable. All facilities were provided and breakfast was delicious including Karmen's homemade bread and jam. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.
Tips:We were lucky enough to be treated to a tour of Gabor's artist studio in the garden. We also enjoyed an open afternoon at Argyll Coffee Roasters where we learned first hand how coffee beans are roasted and could join in a coffee tasting. Carry Farm is a lovely spot for a short but bracing walk to see the donkeys, goats and highland sheep, a coffee shop and small art gallery. We had a wonderful meal at Tide and Thyme restaurant in Kames. Booking ahead is necessary for most local restaurants. A short, but steep, walk to the 'Giant's Armchair' is recommended for the wonderful views. The start of the walk is well-hidden - back along the main road just past the Tighnabruaich sign, a few steps on the left take you to a gate. Follow the path along the fence line up the hill and keep going at the top until you find the giant chair!

Thank you to Karmen, Gabor and Caladh for such a warm welcome. Local information with the booking confirmation and on arrival was useful. We feel we arrived as guests and departed as friends. We look forward to a return visit. Ian and Judy
Tips:Gabor and Karmen give excellent details on what is available in the local area. This varies depending on season. Walking in the area is excellent and in season local water based activities are very close.

I greatly enjoyed my stay. This is a small, family business, exemplifying the “small is beautiful” aphorism. It’s a perfect location, with views of the Loch and a short walk or drive to many lovely places. Karmen and Gabor were so friendly and helpful and made me feel so welcome. Filter coffee in the room and homemade bread at breakfast were extremely nice!

- Beautiful location. It’s clear you have put a lot of thought into making the building and lodging experience as peaceful, scenic and friendly as possible. - Karmen and Gabor, you were both extremely welcoming and friendly. We felt like we were at home. Gabor’s studio was an unexpected highlight of our stay, as he kindly showed us his workspace and creative process. Karmen’s hospitality during the breakfast service made us feel very at ease. - The other guests were friendly and polite. - The room was just what we needed, thoughtfully decorated and comfortable. The chocolate on the towels were much appreciated! Plenty of discrete storage space for visitors staying for longer. We had a beautiful view. The bathroom is well designed for a small space.

We had a fabulous, spacious twin room with an amazing view. The location is so peaceful and the cleanliness of the room was outstanding. I returned home with a wonderful collage picture of my favourite animal…a Highland Coo. I wish great success to this young couple.
Tips:Only stayed 1 night on our way home from Iona but it’s a beautiful area to explore. Loved Portavadie, Tighnabruach and Dunoon. Although Dunoon’s town centre isn’t what it used to be, there are great plans for its future tourist industry. Karmen and Gabor are excellent hosts, have a good knowledge of the area and are very attentive to your needs. The house is in an elevated area and the views from it are stunning. Its the only place we stay when visiting the lovely Tighnabruaich.
Tips:Advisable to book for restaurants, there are a couple of tea rooms that do food, Tarbert is worth a visit, kilfinan, Isle of Bute and the waverley (last ocean going paddle steamer) visits occasionally. Great area to explore.

We had a lovely relaxing time in Tregortha. Karmen and Gabor are the perfect hosts and really could not do any more to make our stay comfy and enjoyable.
Tips:Tighnabruaich is a beautiful location and apart from drinking in the gorgeous scenery, we enjoyed lovely meals in the Royal an Lochan Hotel and the Tide and Thyme bistro. It's best to book ahead to be sure of a table. The village shop in Tighnabruaich is well stocked and has friendly staff. Make a point of visiting the RNLI shop and leaving a donation.

Excellent stay, nice, friendly, helpful hosts. Felt very at home here. Only question mark was the breakfast. We greatly appreciated it when you made porridge. Because the weather wasn't very warm (as often in Scotland) we would have appreciated something hot. We quite understand you don't want to do a full greasy fry up, and we wouldn't want that anyway but maybe the option of some porridge and / or boiled eggs to of with the toast?
Tips:Tighnabruach Hotel. We had an initial bad impression as they cancelled our booking without notice and it comes across as a bit 'rough'. BUT food was surprisingly good and not expensive. Time and Tide, approach with caution. The food is good quality but they have a different theme each week. We were expecting seafood but got curry! Worked ok for us but might not for some. Check first. We especially like the Clachan of Glendaruel and St Modan's Well. We like old churches and sacred sites.

Everything was fantastic: cleanliness excellent, great hospitality, good value. Couldn't find any faults if we wanted to.
Tips:The ferries from Colintraive to Bute (Rhubodach) and from Portavadie to Kintyre (Tarbert) are well worth making use of. The villages of Tarbert and Tighnabruaich itself are well worth a look and the latter has an excellent pub.

Excellent from arrival to departure. This was my second stay here and it certainly won’t be my last. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the breakfast in the morning is to die for.
Tips:We had evening meals in the royal hotel and Kames hotel during our stay. Both were very enjoyable although pricy. According to many locals the best value evening meal in the area is at the Tighnabruaich hotel but this was fully booked during our stay. Perhaps pre booking the Tighnabruaich hotel for a meal prior to arrival would be a good idea.

You are always so accommodating and it is like visiting friends. At this particular time you are the only destination that I would trust to visit as I know how thorough you are cleanliness wise. We know that if we have a question about anything you will try and get an answer. Brilliant hosts every time we visit.
Tips:Just look out of the window or on the terrace at the views. Enjoy the serenity of the place. Go to Dunoon if you want a supermarket shop. The Rock cafe for good food. Bute island is also good for visit especially Mount Stuart where there are so many things to see in the house and in the gardens.

The service and stay was fantastic . Karmen went above and beyond with her welcome . The breakfast was lovely and we got a lot of information and advice from Karmen about where to visit . Next time we would probably book earlier so we could stay in a bigger room with a view . It would have been nice to meet Gabor , but understood , as we knew he was on baby duties . All in all a lovely and beautiful place . Thank you . James and Bernadette .
Tips:We enjoyed our tour of Dunans castle . The guide Gordon gives a good insight into Scottish history . You have to book in advance . We also enjoyed Inveraray , and we recommend the George as place to eat . The local pub , the Tighnabruiach Hotel was great for a drink and a chat with the locals .Tregortha is ideal as a gateway to other places including the Isle of Bute and Tarbert.

Tips:Places to eat are tide and Thyme, Tighnabruaich hotel, the Royal Hotel and the Kames Hotel. Further afield Creggans hotel, the Inver restaurant, Portavadie marina, Kilfinan hotel, the Oystercatcher Otters ferry. Lovely traditional Scottish breakfasts, surrounded by Gabor’s amazing artwork and spectacular views over the Kyles of Bute. A beautiful tranquil setting. We always feel we leave as friends.
Tips:Take the short ferry crossing to the Isle of Bute. You can easily spend a day there. If you are fortunate to visit on a beautiful sunny day, aim to visit Ettrick bay in the afternoon as it’s West facing . A hidden gem is Ostel Bay, only a short drive from Tregortha, if the Bothy is open, at the beginning of the walk, I would highly recommend a visit .... home made soup and cakes are delicious.

We are so happy to have discovered Tregortha. Karmen and Gabor are both so kind and nothing is to much trouble. They are so friendly and accommodating. The B&B is in a beautiful location with fantastic views down the Kyle Of Bute. The rooms are so comfortable and clean with plenty of room. The breakfast is fantastic. All cooked and made to order whilst sat in the conservatory looking out over the Kyle Of Bute. We really would reccomend this B&B to anyone looking to stay in the area. This was our second time staying here and certainly won't be our last!
Tips:Tregortha is ideally located for exploring the Cowel Peninsula and Bute. You are about 24 miles from Dunoon and about 14 miles from the ferry at Colintraive for the Ferry to Bute. The Cowal Way also passes by the B&B a short distance away along the front of the Kyle Of Bute. The path runs for 57 miles from Portavadie on Loch Fyne to Inveruglas on Loch Lomond. This is how we first found The B&B. The walk itself is fantastic with with some amazing views on route. The village itself has a good choice of places to eat and drink with 3 pubs/hotels, a cafe and a small village shop.

We only stayed one night with Karmen and Gabor, but wish we had more time with them. The accommodation was withouta doubt the best B&B we have ever stayed in and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, who are a charming young couple. Breakfast was great and my wife who opted for a vegetarian cooked breakfast was well catered for. If we visit the area again I know where our accommodation will be!
Tips:We only had one day but did a nice walk along the coast heading east I suppose towards Glendaruel. We had a nice but unexceptional meal in the An Lochan hotel.

Returning to Tighnabruaich after over 30 years from when I taught sailing at Tighnabruaich Sailing School, Karmen and Gabor greeted us on arrival at Tregortha with warm and friendly enthusiasm. Our room (Loch Riddon) was very comfortable. It had all we needed including spectacular views over the Kyles of Bute, helped by the lofty position of Tregortha and made even better by glorious sunshine throughout our two-night stay. Tregortha enthuses the passion and commitment which Karmen and Gabor put into their efforts to cater for their guests. They are wonderful hosts, truly professional, attentive and thoughtful but at the same time careful not to be overbearing or to intrude. An excellent breakfast with plenty of choice (including Karmen’s special ‘amuse bouche’) is taken in the conservatory which benefits from the same spectacular views of the Kyles. The conservatory is also where Gabor displays his incredibly creative works of art which he will gladly speak about if you enquire. Thank you so much to you both, a fantastic stay and more fantastic memories of a truly special place. We will certainly be back.
Tips:We ate in Tide & Thyme and the Kames Hotel. Both were excellent

Karmon & Gabor were excellent hosts, very welcoming and friendly, they couldn't do enough for you. The accommodation was outstanding, breakfast was delicious, with home made breads and jams and well presented. We have stayed in many a 5 star hotel and Tregortha beats them all. It is not a hyperbole when I state this is the best place I stayed in all my travel experiences, and I include 4 and 5 stars hotels. The place is amazing, the rooms are cozy and spotless and the view is stunning but the real difference is in the personal touch Karmen and Gabor offer to their guests. Words really can not express how warm, friendly, exquisitely thoughtful and impeccably professional and knowledgeable they both are. Every detail is not only perfect but thought of with care and kindness in order to offer the most delightful experience. Everything, from the decoration with the wonderful works of art by Gabor, to the scrumptious breakfast prepared by Karmen with tea and fruits from their garden, not to mention the detailed and competent suggestions about the local attractions, literally everything speaks of their passion and care for their job and their guests. From the very first moment we felt at home and among friends, and I couldn't recommend this place enough to anyone looking for the highest level of hospitality you could ever experience.

This is 5* accommodation with brilliant hosts, who have a very professional and caring outlook on how to run Tregortha. The view from breakfast and Loch Fyne rooms are outstanding. The outdoor seating and sofa in the conservatory make for varied relaxing areas. The breakfast starter was very tasty as was the breakfast menu.
Tips:The Tighnabruaich hotel serves good pub food with an interesting specials board. The Royal is similar with great views and a more restaurant feel. The bar served beer at good prices. Unfortunately Tide and Thyme was closed during our stay, but looks to have a more varied and interesting menu.

I cannot recommend this lovely b&b highly enough. Exceptionally well ran by the very friendly and down to earth Gabor and Karmen. The Location is beautiful and the b&b its self is immaculate. Lots of lovely locally produced items for breakfast which was delicious. Karmen even makes a lovely granola and yogurt starter for all guests. The only downside for us was that we didn't have longer to stay and enjoy the hospitality. We were attending a wedding in the local area, however we will definitely be back to Tregortha, as this is a gem of a place.

Karmen and Gabor are a delightful couple, they go that little bit extra to make your stay special. From the welcoming cuppa on arrival or after a full day sightseeing.
Tips:There is so much to see and do in the area, the scenery is breathtaking, the views across the Kyles of Bute from the B&B are amazing. Portavadie, leisure centre/spa is good value for money (£12) and again amazing views of Loch Fyne while sitting in the heated outdoor infinity pool. To eat we would recommend Tide And Thyme in Tighnabruaich . For the local seafood Loch Fyne oyster bar and deli.
