10th July 2022:

Lesley is a fantastic hostess and always makes us feel welcome. This time was a special occasion birthday and Lesley helped make this a surprise by decorating the room with decorations I sent to her via post ahead of our arrival. We also got our walking boots wet and she noticed they were in our room so took them to dry them next to the aga oven ready for our next adventure. We have always felt comfortable here and enjoyed this and our previous visits. Thank you

Tips:

There is so much to see and do on the kintyre peninsula. A walk over to Davaar Island is a must to see the cave painting. Skipness Castle, Machrihanish Beach for a beautiful sunset, Mull of Kintyre is a long walk to the lighthouse, but worth it. Saddell Bay + Antony Gormley sculpture. West Port Beach. Day Trip to the Isle of Gigha. Tarbert + Tarbert Castle and more places. There is more to see and do than we had anticipated. A beautiful part of Scotland and well worth the visit.

Warm, friendly welcome and a peaceful scenic location. Ideally placed for visiting all local attractions. Comfortable and clean room with everything you need including wifi. The pinhead oatmeal porridge was an excellent accompaniment to a hearty breakfast. I enjoyed my stay albeit for only one night. Next time will be for longer. 😊

A lovely home full of charm and character. Not only a family home but also the history and features from this 18th century house. The approach to the house and the doorbell are the first experiences of this. Totally unique !! Lesley and her husband are very welcoming. I was there on business however, despite the short stay for 1 night, they offered me knowledge of the area.

Tips:

Ideally located to explore the Kintyre Peninsula and all coastlines are easily reachable. Machrihanish beach is short ride away and the evening sun offered fantastic sunset over the beach. Follow any directions given as the post code covers a wider area and not to the property.

The Oatfield is a stunningly preserved house set in well kept grounds. The welcome is warm and the facilities are excellent. We spent a very comfortable night by the fire followed by a good nights sleep in a well prepared room. Breakfast was fabulous and kept us going during a full day exploring a nearby island. I am already looking forward to visiting again when next in the area.

Tips:

We went into Campbeltown for dinner and found the Royal Hotel on the harbour to be very good.

We were vey impressed with Lesley and the quality of the service and facilities at Oatfield House. She was very welcoming and helpful.

Tips:

The area is beautiful and well worth visiting. Southend is an unspoilt seaside village with a wonderful tearoom (Muneroys) where we went for lunch to try their award winning, delicious cakes. Campbeltown has a picturesque harbour and several good places to eat. We would thoroughly recommend this part of Scotland for a quiet, restful holiday or short break.

We had a really good couple of days staying with you. We loved the house, the room was comfortable and spacious, and the breakfasts were excellent. We really appreciated the personal attention - the recommendations on where to walk and eat, and the effort you made to dry our sodden gear, made us feel very welcome indeed.

Tips:

Eating out: the Old Club House in Machrihanish did good bar food in a great setting; the Taj Mahal in Campbeltown had an execllent and interesting menu; the Harlequin cafe is also very pleasant and friendly. Campbeltown is an interesting place to wander around, and there is good, but tough, walking out at the Mull of Kintyre.

Tips:

Head out for long drives and go exploring - it's so beautiful. If you're into golf or coastal walks book a tee time at the machrihanish courses. The Old Clubhouse Pub & Restaurant is great to stop at for a drink; if you want to eat make sure you book in advance.

6th September 2020:

Lovely old building in beautiful wooded grounds, complete with pet pony and sheep in an adjacent field, not to mention an iron-age fort on the hill behind for those keen to hike up to it. Comfortable lounge and nice well-appointed bedroom with ample tea and coffee-making facilities and rather delicious peppermint biscuits. Excellent breakfasts and - above all - very friendly and helpful owners. A great stay for my daughter and I.

Tips:

Campbeltown and Machrihanish are roughly equidistant about 5 miles away and both offer eating out possibilities. Campbeltown has all facilities, including interesting whiskies on sale in Cadenheads, and is set on a lovely bay with fishing boats - and seals - in the harbour. Machrihanish, where the rocks also sport seals close up, has spectacular surf coming on in a huge beach (and a golf course for those keen on golf) and has great views of Islay and Jura out to sea, while Southend, with the rock where once stood Dunaverty Castle, also has a lovely beach and is en-route to the Mull of Kintyre lighthouse which is about 10 miles from Oatfield. Amazing views from Southend and the Mull all the way along the Northern Ireland coast and even Donegal in the republic from the Mull. Beautiful coastlines and vistas on both sides of the peninsula, and the Isle of Gigha is easy to reach. We really enjoyed our stay in Kintyre and will be back!

Thank you for a lovely stay, everything was great - welcome, rooms, facilities, breakfast and location. Such a lovely old house but with all modern conveniences, the electric blankets were a lovely touch! Enjoyed our evening in front of the roaring fire and appreciate the hospitality and care that went into a very enjoyable stay. We have already recommended to friends and family.

Tips:

Ask the owners about the seals down at Southend, we spotted 2 but missed low tide by an hour. Lovely beach right next door also. Columba's footprints and caves were interesting and only require half an hour if you're short on time. The lighthouse out at the Mull of Kintyre is well worth a visit, it's a steep 1 mile walk down to it but provides glorious views across to Ireland on a clear day (sadly stormy for us but that held it's own beauty). Tajahal in Campbletown served delicious Indian food at reasonable prices of you're looking for an evening meal! Would also recommend the drive back up the West coast - beautiful views and Saddel Abby and tower were interesting - if a little spooky, the tower is apparently haunted by a spectral black hand!

24th April 2018:

We found Oatfield House on the internet as we needed accommodation to attend a birthday celebration in Campbeltown. What a find ! Everything about here was above what we expected. We knew we were going to be late arriving and rang Lesley to let her know. She was very reassuring that it wasn’t a problem. The fire was lit in the lounge for us arriving and a tray with a flask of coffee and biscuits soon appeared. It was such a lovely welcome. Our room looked out over a walled garden and was perfect in every way. Breakfast time was when we wanted it and was a beautiful meal ( and an excellent start to the day ) . Oatfield House has an amazing history and it’s setting is idyllic. We would happily recommend this place to anyone and hopefully will be able to return .

Tips:

The house is situated about 3miles from Campbeltown and roughly the same from Machrihanish where there are good restaurants for eating. Lesley will gladly organise a taxi which wouldn’t cost a lot. A visit to Southend ( about 6 miles away ) is a must with a visit to Muneroy for the best cakes ever. There are beautiful beaches in the area that are well worth a visit and excellent golf courses.
