I had the best sleep I’ve had in months in a wonderfully comfortable room. Every detail had been thought of to make me feel like I was in a home from home from hot water bottles to make up remover.

The Rhu inn was lovely for dinner and the pizza place also catered for gluten free.

This place, hosted by Anna and John is your "home away from home". Walking distance to the waterfront, train station to Glasgow, and only an easy 2hr drive to Ben Nevis, which was our purpose of the trip. Their on the spot cooked breakfast is very tasty and is served in a quirky open room with all kinds of funny Scottish accessories. Our room was super clean and they even provided bath bubbles and make-up remover! What made this couple extra special for me was the fact that they checked up on my son and I when we returned late from our mountain hiking, just to make sure we were safe. Thank you so much for caring enough to make that call.

Just a great B&B if you like to combine Glasgow with going to the Highlands and see the Harry Potter train/ viaduct/ Ben Nevis. This B&B has their own parking spaces if you come by car. Also easily accessible by train. Helensburgh Station.

You wont find better B & B hosts anywhere in the world. The facilities are lovely - very comfortable, clean and the hosts very knowledgeable about the area.

Good restaurants in the town but advisable to book in the summer months. Hill House is most interesting and hill walking is superb in the area. Loch Lomond is just over the hill and provides lots of entertainment, shopping and sightseeing.

Such a comfortable home! wish I had such a big bedroom with ensuite in my own home :-) I would have enjoyed a longer breakfast slot as 8 to 9 is quite early and short on a weekend.

Lovely hosts, very knowledgeable about the area, very quiet location but about 5 mins walk to the town. Beautiful clean accomadation, hosts go above and beyond to welcome their guests. Breakfast served in the sun room very enjoyable.

Stayed in area 4 nights, visited edingburgh by train, also drove to Glencoe and Loch Lomond. Plenty of places to eat and drink in Helensburgh from pub food to Bistro.

This is a lovely place to stay. The accommodation is first rate, very comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Everything you could want is provided. There is access to a fridge. The breakfast is excellent, one of the best we enjoyed in our month travelling in Scotland. A delightful conservatory sitting room/ breakfast area with a very wide range of tourist information for visitors. There is even a hot tub . The setting is ideal in a beautiful neighbourhood. Anne and John are great hosts - very knowledgeable and helpful.

In addition to all the beautiful places to explore in the nearby countryside travelling into Glasgow to experience the city is very easy from here as there is a regular train service. Amongst other things we visited Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the Burrell Collection. Both highly recommended.

We liked La Barca and Riverhill restaurants. A trip to Hill House and the Maid of the Loch which is in dry dock at Loch Lomond . We also enjoyed the walk from Balloch to Helensburgh known as the 3 Lochs walk , which has terrific views.

They were accommodating when it came to checking in early and a late check out. They are walking distance to near shops and restaurants. And they were very helpful when it came to knowledge of the area and places to visit and see.

As well as the excellent accommodation and breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. We were able to use the refrigerator in the utility room and use the dining area on the evening we decided to eat in. You were also very helpful in all sorts of ways such as suggesting places to go and tips on travel arrangements.

Would recommend the Riverhill Courtyard restaurant on West Princes Street for good food at a reasonble price in an unusual setting. It is just a ten minute walk into the centre of Helensburgh for everything you need. Use the train to travel into Glasgow - 45 minute journey, trains every half hour. Helensburgh itself is an interesting town but even if you are not a fan of Charles Rennie Mackintosh you should visit The Hill House for a unique experience. Luss on Loch Lomand is just a short drive away as is Garelochhead and the Faslane naval base.

Great to be able to arrive at any time and enter via the keybox. The heating works superbly and can be controlled easily to suit Kitchen is well equipped and convenient and easy to keep clean.

My hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The room was super clean and comfortable, and very well supplied with welcome little comforts. The breakfast was lovely.

Ann and John do point out that Balmillig is going through a fairly major reconstruction.When I was there, it did mean that I didn't park my car in the drive, which was daily used by builders for their van. But the there was actually precious little other disruption to my stay.

We found the friendliness and helpfulness as good as ever. Breakfasts were excellent as well.

Sugar Boat is definitely worth a try for an evening meal. If the weather is good, eating fish and chips from the Wee Kelpie on the riverside is a lovely seaside holiday treat.We also ate at Riverhill, which was good. Loch Lomond RSPB reserve is worth a visit, especially the part by the lochside.

It was lovely to be back at Balmillig and Ann and John made us feel so welcome. Our rooms were beautiful, quiet and comfortable, and the breakfasts were perfect. Added to this the weather was good and the location brilliant. We'll surely be back.

A great place to break your journey on the way to the Highlands. We enjoyed a lovely walk through Duchess woods and down to the marina cafe and had a good meal with excellent service at Riverhill restaurant.

I am not sure why the book in is 5pm in the afternoon when most other hotels are 2pm book in.

The reason for indicating a 5pm book in is that we are not a hotel with 24 hour staffing. We are a home which offers B&B and we do have to leave the house sometimes during the day. If we are home and guests arrive earlier then we are happy to welcome them at that time and we also make it clear in our welcome email that if guests require to check in earlier than 5pm then they just have to let us know so that we make a point of being here at that time. The flat was comfortable; it was very central so it was easy to walk around Helensburgh. It was also quiet, despite being on the ground floor. Everything we needed for a short stay was provided.

Mira Mare restaurant is lovely! Small, friendly, with fresh food; 10 mins walk along the sea front. Trains to Glasgow are convenient if you want to see museums or art galleries. Kelvingrove is a must!

Friendly/Welcoming - came out to car to help us in and cup of tea with shortbread ready for us once cases in room. Helpful - information where to eat/what to do. Rooms/en suite spacious/tastefully decorated/very well equipped. Very comfortable. Books/toys/games etc available in sitting area downstairs for use of guests. Parking in lovely garden area - beautifully landscaped. Quiet area but still close to centre and other amenities.

Information available re where to eat (e mailed information by Anne) and given a discount voucher for restaurant. We could have taken food back to eat in the conservatory area - very accommodating. Other information re areas of interest Members of The Friends of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs "Our Park" conservation partnership scheme (donate £1 and owners will match) Area of interest to visit.

We spent our daughter’s mid-term holidays at Balmillig and were delighted; we all wished we had been able to stay longer! In their beautiful home in one of the calmer side streets of Helensburgh, Anne and John gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home instantly. Our guest rooms were very comfortable, light and spacious, beautifully furnished and perfectly equipped. Every morning, in the conservatory, there was a delicious, fully cooked breakfast, also including a wide choice of cereals, fresh and dry fruit, toast and home-made jam and marmalade. We were especially impressed by Anne’s and John’s consequent preference for sustainable, fair-trade and ecological products. They both were very kind and helpful, always ready to give excellent advice about what to do and see and how to get there. This was especially valuable to us because we hadn’t taken a car. Thanks to Anne’s and John’s perfect knowledge of trails, trips and sites we were able to enjoy lots of beautiful walks in the surroundings and stunning views even apart from the well-known Three Lochs’ Way and John Muir Trail. The area around Helensburgh, Loch Lomond and the hills to the north has so much to offer and is so well connected to Glasgow, Edinburgh and other places of interest that it is well worth a longer stay. Thank you so much, Anne and John, for a perfect holiday! We would be glad if we could return some time for a further stay. Karlfried Daab and Ulla Held-Daab, Leipzig. Wir haben die Herbstferien unserer Tochter in Balmillig verbracht und waren begeistert. Wir alle wären gern länger geblieben! In ihrem hübschen Haus in einer ruhigen Seitenstraße von Helensburgh haben Anne und John uns sehr herzlich aufgenommen. Wir haben uns gleich zu Hause gefühlt. Die Gästezimmer waren sehr komfortabel, hell und groß, geschmackvoll eingerichtet und perfekt ausgestattet. Jeden Morgen wurde im Wintergarten ein leckeres schottisches Frühstück (Eier mit Bacon, Kartoffel-Scones, Tomaten, Champignons, Black Pudding - eine Art Blutwurst) angeboten, dazu eine große Auswahl an Müsli, frischem Obst, Trockenfrüchten, Toast und hausgemachter Marmelade. Besonders beeindruckt hat uns, wie sehr Anne und John auf die Verwendung möglichst nachhaltiger und fair gehandelter Bioprodukte geachtet haben. Beide waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit und haben uns ausgezeichnete Tipps zu Wanderwegen und möglichen Ausflügen gegeben. Sie haben uns auch gut zu den Nahverkehrsverbindungen beraten - für uns besonders wichtig, weil wir kein Auto dabei hatten. So konnten wir auch abseits der bekannten Routen wie des Three Loch’s Way und des John Muir Trails fantastische Ausblicke genießen. Die Gegend um Helensburgh, Loch Lomond und das Hochland nördlich davon hat so viel zu bieten und verfügt über eine so gute ÖPNV-Anbindung an Glasgow, Edinburgh und andere sehenswerte Orte, dass sie einen längeren Aufenthalt lohnt. Well appointed flat with everything you need for your stay. Tesco close by for groceries.

Was a very enjoyable stay. Everything is to a high standard. Both Anne & John were very helpful with suggestions of places to go and places to eat.

Plenty to choose from. Pub food Tapas Chinese just to name a few.

Very welcoming and helpful regarding places to see, maps etc. Lovely breakfast, plenty of choice. Room comfortable, only negative is the lack of water pressure in the shower. Overall we had a lovely stay, thank you.

Anne and John were delightful hosts and welcomed us warmly to Balmillig. We loved the comfortable chairs in our room just perfect for reading with a cup of tea on hand.

Hill House is easy walking distance to Balmillig and as fabulous as reported.

Balmaha island trip. Botanical gardens, glen pluck. Restaurants: cattle & creel. Fruin farm.
