20th September 2023:

Our stay on Oban Seil Farm was one of the most unforgettable trips we have taken. We were truly amazed by the friendliness and hospitality of Nick, Bette and Lotte. The accommodation was brilliant and the location is stunning. We cannot wait to return again.

Tips:

Visit the Oyster Bar in Ellenbaich for a great friendly welcome and good beer and take the short trip to Easedale Island to visit the freshly refurbished Puffer Inn.

Nick and Bette were brilliant hosts. The Bothy exceeded our expectation. The shore and jetty were a big plus Only slight negative was no WI FI but perhaps that could be seen as a positive by many! We were told of this but it did not stop us booking. Loved the warm underfloor heating, definately be returning if we can get in.

Tips:

Local shop is very good. Seafari boat trip was great, very exciting and fantastic close up to the wildlife. We saw 5 white tailed sea eagles on our trip. Sadly no whales or porpoises. Explored Kilmartin and with the new Museum opening on 3rd Sept it should be a big boost for this historical area

Bette and Nick are excellent hosts, very friendly and helpful. We’ve stayed in The Bothy two years running and will certainly return again. The property was very clean with the underfloor heating and freezer turned on ready for our arrival, the hot water/heating and TV controls were all clearly explained. The Bothy has excellent views over its farmland to Balvicar Bay and onwards to Scarba, sheep wander by every so often.

Tips:

The Balvicar Stores/Post Office has an excellent selection and the Tigh An Truish pub is just up the road (book!) with a delightful walk beside it to the Puilladobhrain Anchorage. A great day out can be had by taking the pedestrian ferry to Easdale Island with its Puffer Bar & Restaurant and Folk Museum, there is a mildly energetic walk to the view point with excellent 360 degree views. Oban is only approx. 10 miles away and for garden enthusiasts there is Ardmaddy, An Cala, Arduaine (check if open) and Dunollie Castle.

A little piece of heaven. A beautiful cottage in the most amazing location, with wonderful hosts. We will certainly be returning, 5 days was not long enough.

Tips:

The Oyster Bar and Restaurant at Ellenabeich, great food and great service in a stunning location. Sea Fari adventures 2 hour nature trip, great experience. Car Ferry to the Isle of Mull, beautiful island but leave plenty of time as it takes a lot longer to drive anywhere on the island that satnav thinks!

We had such a lovely break, in such lovely accommodation which was ran by very friendly and lovely people. They were very accommodation and helpful. The setting on the farm was beautiful and very peaceful, it was so lovely to see the lambs and be able to pet them. Being so close to the Loch with access to the private pontoon was amazing.

Tips:

We very much recommend Oban Seil Farm. We loved the walls which were literally straight out of the door. We also Loved playing around in the water and we took out inflatable kayak. There was plenty to do and there were not trips very close by and it’s a great base to be able to travel to see other sights and places around the highlands.

Can't fault anything about it. We stayed in the Bothy which was perfect for couples/2 travellers, with a double and single bed available. Was a wonderful area and place to stay, lovely hosts, and we were very sorry to have to leave!!

Tips:

Easy access to and from Oban (a lovely town), a pretty well stocked Co-op shop not far on the way to Seil, and Seil within easy reach with free car parking. Seil Oyster Bar is very good for lunches and dinners. Great ferry across to Easdale and takes just a couple of minutes (think it was £2.50 return pp). Has a short ladder to get on and off, and crew very helpful. We missed out on visiting the Puffer Bar & Restaurant as closed on Mondays, but hear is also very good. Lovely to walk around Easdale island, though suggest good walking shoes as ground uneven and especially if walking on slate beaches. Lots of boat trips available around the islands, or ferries from Oban. Internet and phone cut out a few times, but largely ok - great if you want to switch off.

This was our 3rd stay at Oban Seil Farm. We love the cottage and the location. However there were problems with the bathroom which we made Mrs Hunter aware of and I am sure will be looked at, plus the WiFi connection is very poor and some days was non-existent.

Fantastic hosts. Extremely helpful with enquiries prior to visit with prompt replies. Couldn’t do enough to ensure our stay was perfect! Even provided us with a high chair and travel cot which was very thoughtful. (We especially enjoyed the delicious homemade bread, much appreciated.) The cottage was functional and had a pretty sunny garden with seating to enjoy relaxation. We also enjoyed having our own private access to the shore/picnic section only a short walk away. Thank you for making our stay memorable.

Tips:

Great local pub T & T by Atlantic Bridge. Lovely walks and scenery. Challenging and pretty golf course locally. Excellent, well stocked shop nearby. Excellent for quiet drives/exploring and walking as otherwise fairly remote.

As part of a Family Group-Brown/ Reynolds/Clayton- we had a fabulous time. We known and love this area well ,having visited separately over many years.John and I are keen Kayakers and the pontoon was a perfect facility to introduce our grand children to the activity. They loved playing around there, and hide and seek round the houses , hope they did not disturb you too much! The accommodation suited us with separate units for each family.(My only minus point was I would have preferred a shower unit in the Bothy instead of the bath, so much easier when cold or wet,and the solid plate cooker a pain to use hence the 4)But would not put me off coming again. A Great place, may well see you again. Regards Jean Clayton

Great place to stay with children so safe and plenty of space to run around. Accomodation was excellent and exceeded our expectations. Lovely views and farm was lovely and tidy with plenty of walks and places to run and cycle. Great for taking canoes and kayaks and you can leave at the private jetty which is great. Owners are so friendly and made us feel very welcome

Tips:

Go to the other islands such as Luing and visit the cafe at the visitors centre for a fantastic lunch just book before hand. Also easdale is another great place to go for boat trips to corryvrecken. Oban is also nice for the day and if you like sea food visit the pier for the fresh muscles and crabs and all other local seafood you won't be disappointed .

Bette and Nick are brilliant and friendly hosts with lots of interesting stories of outdoor adventures. This is not surprising given that Oban Seil Farm gives instant access to safe waters, beautiful coastlines, wildlife, tumps, humps and marilyns. The cottage was well equipped, comfy, clean and with great views. Highly recommended.

Tips:

Absorb the surroundings. There's so much to do on Seil and the locale. Try island hopping to the tiny islands around about...swim in the sea and quarries, go running: the off road terrain is magic...kyacking is safe, even for novices. Avoid Oban apart from passing through to get the ferry to Kerrera which is wild and rugged.

Fantastic location with great views and walks all around the island. Steadings (our cottage) was very well equipped with everything you need - and more for a self-catered holiday. The furnishings were tasteful and of a high standard. Nick and Bette were very helpful and friendly and had good advice and information on the local area.

Tips:

The pub Tigh an Truish served excellent food and staff were friendly and helpful. The local shop was well stocked with more than just basics. The ferry ride to Luing is worth the trip. We also went on sea water ride - sealife adventures, which was very interesting. Walks around the island were breathtaking.

Nick and Bette were very welcoming, they had lots of helpful directions and info on the surrounding locality, nothing was too much trouble for them. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished and the underfloor heating kept it nice and warm.

Tips:

We stayed for a week in The Bothy, a lovely quiet location with wonderful views of farmland, Balvicar Bay and as far as Scarba; there was a pleasant patio area to enjoy on warmer days. It was very nice to have farm activity going on with sheep wandering by. Ardmaddy Castle gardens, Arduaine,Oban and good walking are all within easy reach. There's a handy local shop/PO which has an excellent range of food and other essentials. We will certainly visit again.

Lovely comfortable cottage, everything we needed, friendly owners. Could have been clearer how to access the property (i.e. go to the back, not where the note was)

Tips:

Good walks from the property although paths are not always easy to find. Pontoon on the lochside is very pretty and worth a visit. Great to have a hand-pulled Loch Fyne beer sat outside the Tigh an Truish overlooking the 'Bridge over the Atlantic'. Worth a trip to Luing Island on the car ferry - very interesting slate works and villages. Would have gone to Easdale Island but very restricted numbers at the moment meant a long wait.

A fantastic holiday cottage on a beautiful little island. Bette and Nick are very kind and considerate, the house is well equipped with everything including abundant good quality sanitising products upon our arrival. The network is not great due to the remote location, which makes us work much less and have a proper holiday!

We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend for others. We wished we could’ve stayed longer. It was very comfortable and peaceful. A couple of suggestions: Instructions to manage the heating would be good. We were VERY warm at night!!! (Although having said that, we did appreciate how warm and cosy it was on arrival). We have stayed in a number of holiday lets during our travels and this was the first place not to have a small milk, tea/coffee etc. It was not a problem at all but just letting you know if you’re trying to align yourself with other places. :-)

Tips:

We walked down to the bridge one day which was a leisurely stroll and there were lots of crabs to be found in the rock pools once we got there. We also took the car ferry to Luing which was very easy and there is lots to do there. There are many lovely walks on Luing and Seil. We are out at Cuan Mor in Oban one night which we enjoyed, but there were great facilities for cooking at home.

Had an amazing stay. The house was perfect and had everything we needed. Our dog loved walks around the farm and surrounding areas. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Tips:

Remember to take note of arrival instructions. We arrived late, in the dark with no phone signal and realised I didn't check how to get in!!! Another guest helped us out and the rest of our stay was perfect even with one very rainy day.

Altogether outstanding in all the categories above. We enjoyed our stay very much indeed and we will certainly make a point of returning. Thank you very much for your kind hospitality.

Tips:

We particularly enjoyed visiting the neolithic site at Kilmartin and the islands of Easdale and Luing as Bette recommended. The food at the Oyster bar at Easdale was excellent. Good cafes also on Easdale and at Kilmartin. For self-catering guests, there's a good shop for provisions and post office just down the road. No need for a supermarket!

We had a fantastic trip to Seil- Bette and Nick welcomed us in and we enjoyed chatting to them throughout our stay when our paths crossed in the garden! The bothy is perfect for a couple, a lovely place to be based to enjoy the fantastic surroundings, a great size with everything you would need. We particularly loved the views enjoyed from all parts of the farm.

Tips:

Seil is an excellent to base yourself from- we had a fabulous full day walking from the farm all round he island, also taking the ferry across to Easedale for a walk and lunch there. We ventured north of Oban for a walk and swim at a great beach up there. We also went to Kerrera oj the ferry for a fantastic for a day out, we ran round the island and enjoyed lunch on the island at the tea room. All places recommended!

We had such a lovely stay at house number 1 . The Accomodation was spotlessly clean, and the kitchen well stocked with utensils, plates etc. Hot water was ample, I loved the shower We also had a few cooler days but the house was easily warmed with the storage heaters. The setting is beautiful, with views of the sea and whole area quiet, peaceful and relaxing. There were people staying in the other houses, but we weren’t disturbed by them at all . The hosts are extremely friendly and on hand if you need anything . We had a lovely couple of days and definitely be back .

Tips:

We only stayed 3 nights however we managed to pack in loads of local walks on the island . On our return, we would get a map as 4G can be unpredictable (which we didn’t mind as it’s nice to be tablet free !) also bring some binoculars as there’s loads of wildlife and birds. Easdale is a great day out, as is the walk down the Crinan canal. The pub is in walking distance, the restaurant was being refurbished, however I’m intrigued to see the finished product.

Fantastic location for a quiet stay. Views amazing and plenty of walking both on the Island and around the farm. Great access, only 15 mins from Oban with all facilities, shops. Cottage on farm was idylic, clean and plenty of space. Facilities were good, everything we needed except hairdryer and wooden spoon! Mind you if we had asked they probably would have lent us one. Very welcoming, accommodating. Definately want to return.

Tips:

Location of cottage is great for views and a quiet stay. Plenty of walking on island and around farm, inlets, lanes etc. Oban is only 15 mins drive away for all facilities, and transport links. Would be a great place to bring the dogs next time, space, etc. Lots of forest walks around Oban, lots to see and do in Oban, Kerrera Island is a must with it's walk to the castle and little tea shop. Ferry crossing is fun, only a few minutes. Loch Ness easily accessible for a day trip and plenty of other places to visit all within reach of Oban/Seil Island.

We were visiting family about a five minute drive away so it was perfect. It was lovely and warm to return to early evening. The beds were comfortable, shower was hot, kitchen had everything we needed and the lounge was comfortable. The views were stunning although we could have done without the picturesque snow! Bette made us very welcome and we would definitely recommend Oban Seil Farm.

Tips:

There is a little shop a few minutes drive away selling essentials including lovely fresh bread but best stock up before you arrive.

A really cosy cottage in a beautiful location. We stayed in cottage No 3, which was warm, welcoming and extremely well furnished. Located about 30 mins from Oban, this is the perfect place for anyone seeking, peace and quiet in a picturesque setting. The owners, were friendly and helpful without being intrusive.

Tips:

There are lovely walks from the cottage door with magnificent views around every corner. Venturing further afield, we can recommend a trip with West Coast Tours - tickets available just near the port. We took the Mull/ Iona trip. A ferry from Oban to Mull, a bus the length of this island, then a short, smaller ferry to Iona. It proved to be a really lovely trip in every way and excellent value. Lunch at the Argyll Hotel on Iona was extremely good - do try the chowder - delicious. We also enjoyed the Waterfront Resturant in Oban. Serving a wide range of high quality, very fresh fish, this friendly place also enjoyes nice views across the bay. The early bird menu is particularly good value and unlike some places, there is no pressure to rush. We also bought great shellfish from The Green Shed, perfect for eating at the cottage.

Myself and my two young daughters spent an AMAZING five at Nick and Bette's on the Isle of Seil. Oban Seil Farm is a lovely place for a family holiday, and they are wonderful hosts. The tone for our stay was set when Bette invited my older daughter to bake bread on the first morning we were there. Feeding the chickens and sheep were also welcome additions to our holiday routine. If have kids they will love it.

Tips:

Easdale Island is definitely worth a visit, especially if the sun is shining. Look out for dolphins on the short boat trip across.

It has been very quiet here since you left, I have nobody to save some pancakes for and nobody to share my hairbrush with. We fell in love with your kids as sooon as they arrived, and to be honest a charming dad is always a bonus. Please come back soon, We always need bakers and shepheardesses here. We still have not got any lambs, we are out on the hills 3 times a day and still no lambs. I wish I'd taken some photos of the girls, next time!

Just posted review to Trip Advisor: We recently stayed here for a family holiday with a baby and toddler. The location could not have been better and the owners, Bette and Nick are the friendliest hosts you could meet. The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and included everything you could possibly need including Wi-Fi, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave etc. Lots of extras were provided that we had not expected such as dishwasher tablets, tin foil etc and the kitchen is very well stocked with pots, pans, casserole dishes. The location is very peaceful, with lots of walking possible from the farm or in the local area, very safe for children. We were very kindly allowed to take our toddler to collect fresh eggs from the hen house and he just loved collected apples from the bucket at the farm to feed the horses every day. A short walk away is a private pontoon, long table and BBQ. We enjoyed some time in our sailing canoe there and even a swim, brrrr. Could not recommend Oban Seil Farm more highly and we will definitely be back again.

Lovely location, spacious cottage, friendly owners, good for a dog to come too: we had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. Only downside is that internet is poor and there is no mobile phone access - though you might think that is a bonus if you want to "get away from it all"!

Tips:

Haven of peace and tranquility, comfortable and well equipped. The only downside as far as we were concerned is the lack of a proper shower - shampoo attachment on the bath taps and low water pressure are not really adequate. Mr and Mrs Hunter are very friendly, helpful but unobtrusive.
