Absolutely fantastic hospitality from Caroline & George who couldn't do enough for us. We were staying as a group of musicians and wives, playing at the Tigh n Truish Festival at the hotel next door. We were welcomed with delicious home baking and the breakfasts were plentiful and perfect. The rooms were spacious, spotless and comfortable. Have no hesitation in recommending.

Tips:

The b&b is perfectly situated at the scenic bridge over the Atlantic on the beautiful Isle of Seil and next to the Tigh n Truish Hotel, where you will find a warm welcome, lovely food (chef is a previous Masterchef contestant) and a cosy bar.

We had a wonderful time at your place. I would say it was the best nights of our trip. We particularly appreciated your kindness, even if our last minute demands weren't easy (late arrival, dog...). Thank you so much for being so flexible & so kind. Breakfast was amazing, delicious!!! And the room was really cosy. I'd defently come back if I'm traveling to Seil again.

13th June 2023:

We had an absolutely lovely stay at Sheiling BnB. We stayed in Flora - a very comfortable and pretty suite - and had a wonderful view each morning from our bedroom window.Fantastic weather was thrown in for good measure ! The attention to detail was really appreciated by both my husband and I - including fresh cake each afternoon, with fresh bread and baked goods as part of a lovely breakfast. I wasn't very well while there and Caroline could not have been kinder. Both George and Caroline also cooked us a very early breakfast as we had a funeral to attend on our last day. We very much hope to stay again !

Tips:

You can do some lovely low key walks from the B and B itself. The pub /restaurant next door does food for most of the week (book ahead) but can close early ! The pub in Ellenabeich also does nice food for most of the day. Ellenabeich has beautiful gardens and other gardens are a short drive away. The wee museum is interesting too. My husband was very lucky to get a seat on the wildlife trip run by Seafari (book ahead) - and the highlight of his trip was seeing a whitetailed eagle.

Caroline and George gave me a warm welcome into their lovely B and B. I was given delicious gluten free almond cake and berries and pot of tea then I showered and relaxed in my comfy bedroom. Breakfasts were delicious and I felt truly spoilt by their hospitality.

Tips:

I had a delicious evening meal in the pub/restaurant next door. My time before joining a Retreat was spent in garden centres and on the beaches. I went across to Easdale Island on the small boat. There was a craft fair in the village hall which was worth visiting.

A warm welcome from lovely hosts. The tea and cake that awaited us, was just what we needed after the journey. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable in beautiful surroundings. All the little added extras just enhanced our experience. Would highly recommend and would love to return.

Tips:

Didn’t venture far as we just wanted to drop and flop for a couple of days but we still had plenty to do to fill our time. Did a couple of the recommended walks which gave us the chance to explore parts of the island with our dog. We ate two nights at the Oyster Bar in Ellenabeich - they advise you to book but they were very accommodating on our first night when we just dropped by on the off chance. The pub at the end of the drive didn’t serve evening meals on the days we visited but we stopped by for a drink and they were very friendly. Oban was a nice day trip out.

Caroline and George are great hosts who are attentive, helpful and welcoming. The delicious tea and home made-cake on arrival was particularly appreciated. Breakfast is delicious and makes the best of local produce. Our room was bright, spacious and comfortable with superb views to the Clachan Bridge and Seil Sound. The location is excellent adjacent the Tigh and Truish Hotel and the lovely walk over to the tranquil bay and yacht anchorage at Puilladobhrain

Tips:

The proprietors Caroline and George are lovely warm people who provide a warm welcome . There are lots of little extras like tea and delicious home made cake on arrival and although on this occasion we did not use it , we loved the fact there was a little cafetiere by the bedside tea and coffee making facilities. The location looking directly onto The Bridge over the Atlantic is very special and with a hotel virtually next door serving nice meals it is perfect.

Tips:

Sheiling is in a wonderful location for exploring the area which is full of scenery , wildlife and history ..especially the slate islands of Easdale , Luing etc but there are so many stunning places easily accessible. We had booked 2 nights in order to do a special birthday boat trip nearby but we would return and use The Sheiling as a base next time for just enjoying the many walks you can do in the immediate area

What a wonderful little haven. Caroline and George made us so welcome after a long drive with delicious tea and cakes and our bedroom and sitting area were just right. The room was clean with lovely bed linen and a really comfortable bed. Our daily breakfast was one of the best we have had in a BnB and fresh rolls, hot smoked salmon and eggs and kippers were only a few of the items on the menu. This is a perfect spot for exploring the area and having such lovely and helpful hosts was a huge bonus. This is not a fancy home but it’s a really lovely, clean, comfortable and welcoming place to stay. We would highly recommend it.

Tips:

We actually used Caroline for all our recommendations. She was spot on and we explored the islands based on her suggestions. We also ate on the island, again at her suggestions. She even gave us some great tips for our trip home.

A really enjoyable stay with our every need catered for. It was wonderful to have the extra room and mini fridge available to us and we really appreciated your hospitality and spirit of generosity. We felt as if we were being looked after while at the same time with being in Flora rooms having privacy and independence. Thank-you so much! And, the breakfasts were excellent. It was lovely to wake up to the smell of fresh rolls and muffins being baked.

Tips:

We would recommend especially the Oyster Bar in Ellenabeich for a relaxed laid back meal - ask for a table at the back outside to get the best views over to Easedale (which is definitely worth visiting) - really friendly staff. We also had a lovely more formal meal on the terrace overlooking Loch Melfort at the Loch Melfort hotel. In the evening you can select items from both the restaurant & bistro menu - excellent service and incredible views.

28th July 2019:

Caroline and George are so friendly, nice and helpful people, that we were very delighted to spend the second-last night at their place! Their breakfast (especially the curd and the bread and rolls) are absolutely delicious and all the things they offer in the room are more than welcoming! We loved the tastefully decoration in the rooms, everything is so cordially - we also loved the music, which started exactly when we began our breakfast (how did they know our taste?)! The blog is a wonderful thing aswell!

Tips:

After we left The Sheiling B&B we went to Kilbrandon's Church which was really worth a visit (for Irish: St.Brendan from Dingle went to this area aswell) and then into Oban to the best Café in town The Oban Chocolate Cafe - if you are no sweet teeth, you will become one there! And if you like good bookshops, don't miss Waterstone's in town! Oban and the area itself is a really good destination for exploring the whole region and may be connect/or not with a trip to the smaller or bigger islands.

30th June 2019:

Caroline and George were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our room (Nancy) was spacious and very comfy with a fabulous spacious shower room. The toiletries were lovely! Breakfast was very good with quality produce and George's pancakes were the best! Lovely homemade bread and muffins too! The view out of the bedroom to the Atlantic Bridge was great. We very much enjoyed our stay!

Tips:

The Sheiling is in a great location to see the rest of Seil Island, Ellenabeich, Easdale,Luing and to learn about the history of the Slate Islands and if you enjoy walking, this is all possible without using the car. There are boat trips to the Corryvreckan Whirlpool and from Easdale and Luing great views of Scarba and Jura. You're not that far from Oban to do some shopping or eat out. We ate at the Oyster Bar for our evening meal which was good and also Ee-usk in Oban which was amazing!

George & Caroline are a very welcoming and attentive couple. Right from the moment we arrived they made us feel at home. Our room was super, very well presented and lovely and clean. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and they went to a lot of trouble to make sure we had a variety of tasty dishes. If we go to Seil again we would definitely choose to stay at the Sheiling.

Tips:

We would definitely recommend eating at the Puffer Bar on Easdale and EE-Usk in Oban. Both serve delicious seafood.

Fabulous location on Seil island , first house on left after crossing Atlantic bridge:has own jetty with crystal clear fast flow river. A great photo is possible through the bridge . Caroline and George are great hosts , service superb breakfast is excellent and full Scottish to eggs with salmon available with home baked bread

Tips:

Seil island is 15 mins drive from bridge to top of island at Ellenabeich which is fascinating with a slate museum old cottages and a harbour for ferry to Easdale island which is worth a visit. Seafari adventures offers various trips by large rib to islands and wildlife cruises. Longer marine mammal based trips offered by Sealife adventures ( dont’t confuse them ) at Clachan-Seil run by marine biologist David Ainsley; well worth booking if you like marine/ wildlife and geology. This a drier more thoughtful cruise in a stable boat through the Corryvreckan whirlpool. At Ellenabeich recommended is Oyster inn for sea food and snacks and views over harbour. Great short walks and climbs possible on hill overlooking harbour with superb views over islands. Drinks available at old inn : a short stagger from the Sheiling bnb The little store at Balvicar sells everything and gives out cash at PO. Great wee island been back twice

You both and The Sheiling, plus the islands and their views, the friendliness of everyone I met, and of course the perfect weather - oh yes! AND the bluebells, though I had them all the way home along Loch Eck too - all these made a perfect stay for me. I wished I'd been there for a week or more.

Tips:

The 'Islands Centre' - I forget its exact title - in Cullipool on Luing is well worth an hour or two's visit, and their coffee-shop food is great. The Oyster Bar at Ellanbeich is great for a meal.

The Sheiling is the sort of place you want to keep to yourself because it’s so nice , but that would be unfair.Having stayed there while working in the area, I returned a couple of weeks later for a short break with my daughter. We ate even more cake.I love it here.

Tips:

We ate in the Oyster Bar which is a 10 min drive away.It was very nice.We took the ferry over to Easdale and swam in the L shaped quarry. The best thing we did was the Sealife Adventures trip to the Corryvreckan Whirlpool. This was amazing. Not cheap( it was over £50 each for the 3 hour trip)but really interesting and an enjoyable experience.( we took seasickness tablets just in case!)

I just LOVED my visit to Seil Island so much.Such a beautiful setting and I felt really welcome. The Sheiling is a lovely house and my room was everything you hope for in a b&b.Thoughtfully decorated, with so many touches of luxury-the soap, selection of tea bags and coffee, homemade shortbread...The CAKE to welcome me when I arrived.Breakfast was delicious and such a lot of baking had gone on.Thanks Caroline and George.

Tips:

I ate in the Oyster Bar.The service was a bit chaotic but the food was nice.My friends had the langoustines and the mussels.I had fish and chips and we each had an oyster-not really my thing but I did it!There are loads of places to go for a walk.I got the little boat over to Easdale where I went swimming in the L shaped slate quarry. This was the best thing ever.I was so happy.Easdale has no cars and is tiny-you can go for a walk if swimming isn’t your thing. What a lovely place to visit.

What a delightful place to stay! Everything about Sheiling is good quality. Caroline and Charles have a real eye for detail, and they are so friendly and helpful. The place is beautifully decorated, appointed, and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts are wonderful, plenty of choice and lots of home made goodies. The location is beautiful, overlooking the Atlantic bridge and with local walks taking in super views. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Tips:

The SeaLife Adventures Boat trip from just down the road is a great experience. The 4 hour trip takes in lots, and the crew are informative and good at spotting the wildlife in the sea and on the land. 1st September 2015:

My husband and I both enjoyed our stay with you. The personal touch really makes all the difference and you gave it in abundance, including the gluten free diet!! The location, facilities and welcome have not been matched; well done. Well worth crossing the Atlantic for!

Tips:

Make sure you explore the Island on foot or by car, right to it's southern most tip. Walk over the hill to the other bay but watch the weather! Take the ferry across to Luing and explore that island. Easdale too. We didn't have time to. do the latter
