26th June 2022:

Caroline and George are great hosts who are attentive, helpful and welcoming. The delicious tea and home made-cake on arrival was particularly appreciated. Breakfast is delicious and makes the best of local produce. Our room was bright, spacious and comfortable with superb views to the Clachan Bridge and Seil Sound. The location is excellent adjacent the Tigh and Truish Hotel and the lovely walk over to the tranquil bay and yacht anchorage at Puilladobhrain

Tips:

The Tigh and Truish Hotel adjacent the B&B has an excellent restaurant featuring quality local produce at fair prices. It also has an excellent rustic bar full of local colour.

25th June 2022:

The proprietors Caroline and George are lovely warm people who provide a warm welcome . There are lots of little extras like tea and delicious home made cake on arrival and although on this occasion we did not use it , we loved the fact there was a little cafetiere by the bedside tea and coffee making facilities. The location looking directly onto The Bridge over the Atlantic is very special and with a hotel virtually next door serving nice meals it is perfect.

Tips:

Sheiling is in a wonderful location for exploring the area which is full of scenery , wildlife and history ..especially the slate islands of Easdale , Luing etc but there are so many stunning places easily accessible. We had booked 2 nights in order to do a special birthday boat trip nearby but we would return and use The Sheiling as a base next time for just enjoying the many walks you can do in the immediate area

What a wonderful little haven. Caroline and George made us so welcome after a long drive with delicious tea and cakes and our bedroom and sitting area were just right. The room was clean with lovely bed linen and a really comfortable bed. Our daily breakfast was one of the best we have had in a BnB and fresh rolls, hot smoked salmon and eggs and kippers were only a few of the items on the menu. This is a perfect spot for exploring the area and having such lovely and helpful hosts was a huge bonus. This is not a fancy home but it’s a really lovely, clean, comfortable and welcoming place to stay. We would highly recommend it.

Tips:

We actually used Caroline for all our recommendations. She was spot on and we explored the islands based on her suggestions. We also ate on the island, again at her suggestions. She even gave us some great tips for our trip home.

24th July 2021:

A really enjoyable stay with our every need catered for. It was wonderful to have the extra room and mini fridge available to us and we really appreciated your hospitality and spirit of generosity. We felt as if we were being looked after while at the same time with being in Flora rooms having privacy and independence. Thank-you so much! And, the breakfasts were excellent. It was lovely to wake up to the smell of fresh rolls and muffins being baked.

Tips:

We would recommend especially the Oyster Bar in Ellenabeich for a relaxed laid back meal - ask for a table at the back outside to get the best views over to Easedale (which is definitely worth visiting) - really friendly staff. We also had a lovely more formal meal on the terrace overlooking Loch Melfort at the Loch Melfort hotel. In the evening you can select items from both the restaurant & bistro menu - excellent service and incredible views.

We had a lovely stay at Caroline and George’s beautiful B&B and it was the perfect end to our Scottish trip. We stayed in Flora which was so spacious with a separate sitting room. The B&B is in a beautiful location with plenty to do locally. The breakfast was a real highlight, locally sourced, freshly made bread and all delicious! Thanks Caroline and George for being so accommodating and hopefully we can visit again.

We were very pleased with everything about our stay. Caroline and George had carefully considered covid security but remained friendly and approachable. The breakfasts were amazing, as were the cakes and scones! We have already recommended you to any of our friends considering a trip to the highlands. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Tips:

There is a lovely short walk to the shore, starting from the driveway. The local pub has a great dining room with a modern menu. The steep walk to McCaig's tower is worth it for the views over Oban.

Really good bar restaurant almost next door. Tasty fish dishes particularly. A visit to Easdale on the very short ferry is a must, for the rugged nature and slate quarries. Caroline and George are so friendly, nice and helpful people, that we were very delighted to spend the second-last night at their place! Their breakfast (especially the curd and the bread and rolls) are absolutely delicious and all the things they offer in the room are more than welcoming! We loved the tastefully decoration in the rooms, everything is so cordially - we also loved the music, which started exactly when we began our breakfast (how did they know our taste?)! The blog is a wonderful thing aswell!

Tips:

After we left The Sheiling B&B we went to Kilbrandon's Church which was really worth a visit (for Irish: St.Brendan from Dingle went to this area aswell) and then into Oban to the best Café in town The Oban Chocolate Cafe - if you are no sweet teeth, you will become one there! And if you like good bookshops, don't miss Waterstone's in town! Oban and the area itself is a really good destination for exploring the whole region and may be connect/or not with a trip to the smaller or bigger islands.

Caroline and George were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our room (Nancy) was spacious and very comfy with a fabulous spacious shower room. The toiletries were lovely! Breakfast was very good with quality produce and George's pancakes were the best! Lovely homemade bread and muffins too! The view out of the bedroom to the Atlantic Bridge was great. We very much enjoyed our stay!

Tips:

The Sheiling is in a great location to see the rest of Seil Island, Ellenabeich, Easdale,Luing and to learn about the history of the Slate Islands and if you enjoy walking, this is all possible without using the car. There are boat trips to the Corryvreckan Whirlpool and from Easdale and Luing great views of Scarba and Jura. You're not that far from Oban to do some shopping or eat out. We ate at the Oyster Bar for our evening meal which was good and also Ee-usk in Oban which was amazing!

Fabulous location on Seil island , first house on left after crossing Atlantic bridge:has own jetty with crystal clear fast flow river. A great photo is possible through the bridge . Caroline and George are great hosts , service superb breakfast is excellent and full Scottish to eggs with salmon available with home baked bread

Tips:

Seil island is 15 mins drive from bridge to top of island at Ellenabeich which is fascinating with a slate museum old cottages and a harbour for ferry to Easdale island which is worth a visit. Seafari adventures offers various trips by large rib to islands and wildlife cruises. Longer marine mammal based trips offered by Sealife adventures ( dont’t confuse them ) at Clachan-Seil run by marine biologist David Ainsley; well worth booking if you like marine/ wildlife and geology. This a drier more thoughtful cruise in a stable boat through the Corryvreckan whirlpool. At Ellenabeich recommended is Oyster inn for sea food and snacks and views over harbour. Great short walks and climbs possible on hill overlooking harbour with superb views over islands. Drinks available at old inn : a short stagger from the Sheiling bnb The little store at Balvicar sells everything and gives out cash at PO. Great wee island been back twice

Tips:

The 'Islands Centre' - I forget its exact title - in Cullipool on Luing is well worth an hour or two's visit, and their coffee-shop food is great. The Oyster Bar at Ellanbeich is great for a meal.

The Sheiling is the sort of place you want to keep to yourself because it’s so nice , but that would be unfair.Having stayed there while working in the area, I returned a couple of weeks later for a short break with my daughter. We ate even more cake.I love it here.

Tips:

We ate in the Oyster Bar which is a 10 min drive away.It was very nice.We took the ferry over to Easdale and swam in the L shaped quarry. The best thing we did was the Sealife Adventures trip to the Corryvreckan Whirlpool. This was amazing. Not cheap( it was over £50 each for the 3 hour trip)but really interesting and an enjoyable experience.( we took seasickness tablets just in case!)

Caroline and George made our stay really wonderful. They took such care of us and the home baking is REALLY amazing!!! The little touches in the B&B are really lovely and much appreciated. Quite possibly the best B&B I've stayed in!

Tips:

The Shieling B&B is a short drive from the end of the island and Easdale. Lots of nice walks in the area and good access to the sea and swimming spots nearby.

I just LOVED my visit to Seil Island so much.Such a beautiful setting and I felt really welcome. The Sheiling is a lovely house and my room was everything you hope for in a b&b.Thoughtfully decorated, with so many touches of luxury-the soap, selection of tea bags and coffee, homemade shortbread...The CAKE to welcome me when I arrived.Breakfast was delicious and such a lot of baking had gone on.Thanks Caroline and George.

Tips:

I ate in the Oyster Bar.The service was a bit chaotic but the food was nice.My friends had the langoustines and the mussels.I had fish and chips and we each had an oyster-not really my thing but I did it!There are loads of places to go for a walk.I got the little boat over to Easdale where I went swimming in the L shaped slate quarry. This was the best thing ever.I was so happy.Easdale has no cars and is tiny-you can go for a walk if swimming isn’t your thing. What a lovely place to visit.

An absolutely delightful B&B - probably the nicest we have ever stayed in. The hospitality was faultless, the room was very comfortable and spotless, and the breakfast was superb. We very much hope to be back soon!

Tips:

We very much enjoyed our dinner at The Puffer on Easdale, but remember to book dinner before you travel! (The Fisherman's Kitchen was already fully booked, by the time we got round to sorting out dinner).

What a delightful place to stay! Everything about Sheiling is good quality. Caroline and Charles have a real eye for detail, and they are so friendly and helpful. The place is beautifully decorated, appointed, and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts are wonderful, plenty of choice and lots of home made goodies. The location is beautiful, overlooking the Atlantic bridge and with local walks taking in super views. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Tips:

The SeaLife Adventures Boat trip from just down the road is a great experience. The 4 hour trip takes in lots, and the crew are informative and good at spotting the wildlife in the sea and on the land. If you like horse riding, then about 45 mins away is the Lunga Estate and they have some good horses and do both English and Western style riding.

Unobtrusive, friendly hosts were very attentive. They seemed very experienced, provided service that was beyond our expectations and seemed to be able to anticipate our needs. Above all they were obviously used to different types of guests,, extremely knowledgable and readily available if you wanted something. We liked their collection of books And the location was excellent. The house was set back far enough to provide a private space yet in a position to lookout on the wonderful nearby bridge.it was also very clean, had a comfortable bed, great shower and plenty nearby to do.

An unexpected wee gem! Caroline and George were very welcoming and friendly. The bedroom and ensuite were just lovely and food (including home made bread and cakes were fantastic!). I normally stay in hotels but my experience here has opened my eyes to Bed & Breakfast and I will certainly return here. Truly excellent.

Tips:

The pub (which serves food) is within 100m of the accommodation and Seil is just beautiful. Sheiling B & B overlooks the Bridge over the Atlantic (it is opposite the pub) and the views are spectacular. A wonderful base for a true view of the wonderful Scottish scenery.
