1st June 2021:

I've stayed at some willing B&Bs before but this one takes the cake. We loved having a whole 3 days and nights here although could have easily stayed another few. The house is perfectly situated at the loch of Loch Long, accessible to all areas of the Trossachs National Park, with a few great places to eat nearby, and amazing views of the loch and mountain from our room. While social distancing was in place we were able to explore and enjoy the house and not just our room, play frisbee in the massive front garden with amazing views, and we spent our 3 evenings after returning from dinner in the gorgeous lounge playing games with a few drinks. Both my partner and I agree this was one of the top highlights from our trip. Breakfast was fantastic and Cristina was a superb host, interesting and personable, we really enjoyed talking to her and learning about the property and herself. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone exploring Loch Lomond and/or the Trossachs, and we would certainly come back if we find ourselves in the area again.

Tips:

There is so much to do, a car is pretty necessary to have the freedom to explore anywhere. We took a self drive boat on Loch Goilhead which we'd recommend, we went mountain biking in Aberfoyle, and explored the local nearby lochs and small towns by the lochs.

I have tried hard to find a category to mark as only 4 star to indicate I'd thought about the stay, but there just wasn't anything less than top-notch. It did snow the afternoon of my third night, but I just picked up some reading and sat in front of the big window watching the hills become covered in blanket of snow. I had one of Ashfield's plush wool rugs over my knees, so who cared! First trip after lockdown, and loved it.

Tips:

If you are a walker, Arrochor Alps are hard to beat for a long weekend. Easy access by train.

Beautiful House with lovely views over the loch. All Covid-19 precautions appropriate, well organised without spoiling the stay. Excellent room, lovely attention to detail. The same could be said for breakfast which was excellent. The whisky on arrival and homemade cakes in our room were thoroughly enjoyed. We can’t fault it. We would certainly stay again.

Tips:

We were passing through but near by Loch Lomond is worth a visit but can be busy.

A delightful place to stay! Beautiful house in a superb location with a lovely garden to sit in and relax. Our bedroom was very comfortable and had a great view over the loch and the mountains. Breakfast was delicious. There is a guest room for relaxing. Best of all, the hosts are thoughtful and go out of their way to ensure your comfort and relaxation, including making dinner reservations and helpful suggestions of things to do. We stayed just as the country was coming out of strict lockdown following COVID in 2020, and had every confidence that the hosts were complying with all necessary procedures. Arrochar is a ideal location as a jumping off point for Argyll. There is so much to see and do in the local area.

What a wonderful weekend we had at Ashfield House. Cristina was brilliant from the outset, recommending restaurants and making us reservations, and providing exceptional breakfasts and homemade treats which really added to our weekend. The Loch View room is just fabulous; the view of the Loch is absolutely incredible and the room itself is comfortable and furnished to a very high standard. We will certainly be back, and will not hesitate to recommend to friends and family. Thanks so much Cristina!

Tips:

The Loch Fyne Oyster Bar is highly recommended for food, as is the Village Inn (around 20 mins walk from Ashfield House on Loch Long). We also loved Fyne Ales taproom and shop. There are plenty of walking routes from Ashfield House, and we particularly enjoyed the circular route from Ashfield to Tarbet and back, which was around five miles.

Beautiful in every way – experience solitude, natural beauty and Scottish adventures! We stayed at the Ashfield House B&B at the head of Loch Long during our first visit to Scotland. Our experience was magnificent in every way imaginable. The beautifully restored B&B overlooks the majestic waters of Loch Long framed by the golden hills of the Scottish Highlands. The ever-changing scenery was awe-inspiring as it developed throughout from the changing light and weather. There many things to do within an easy drive from the B&B…like hiking, visiting Loch Fyne, checking out a whisky producer, visiting the beautiful Glencoe region, plus much more! We stayed in the Mountain View room, which has a direct view of the hills and Loch. Our room was extremely comfortable with a cozy ensuite bathroom and luxurious bed…and we loved the welcome treats, fresh flowers, freshly ground coffee from a local business and assortment of teas. We also enjoyed hanging out on the main floor in the sitting room just relaxing and sipping a whisky. The breakfast was another highlight during our stay. The food is freshly made and the proportions are generous. There were plenty of Scottish options, along with a nice selection of plant-based food for those preferring alternatives. All the food is local – some even made on premise (the orange marmalade was divine). The comfort of this B&B is a result of the class and sophistication of Cristina. Her devotion to the guests is clear in every detail. Cristina and her husband are engaging and more than willing to offer tips on local places to visit or special things to do. We happily and eagerly recommend staying here while visiting Scotland!

I had a lovely stay here. Ashfield House - spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, with comfortable, well-planned bedrooms, and a lovely lounge - has great views over the loch, and the surrounding woodland. Christine is a very thoughtful and welcoming hostess, and a wonderful cook. (Though perhaps I should call her the chef.) I have never come across a more delicious, or varied breakfast menu. Luckily I have family connections with the area, and therefore every excuse for return visits.

Tips:

The Cobbler is an energetic, & satisfying, climb, but there are lots of other long & not-so-long walks in the area. A stop on 'The Rest & Be Thankful' to take in the view, is a good idea. A boat trip on Loch Lomond - with an excellent commentary from the Captain - will include fellow passengers from many countries, plus - always - a number of Glaswegians, who regard this trip as one of their regular favourites. No-one should miss a meal at The Oyster Bar at nearby Loch Fyne - or, if time is short, a stop at the adjacent garden centre. cafe.

Ashfield House is a beautiful home in the National Park, with a great view of Loch Long, run impeccably by Christina. The bed was comfortable, shower great, and breakfast delicious, including fruit, yogurt and French press coffee. She was very responsive to my questions in advance of our stay, suggesting we reserve a table at the local restaurant so we were sure to have dinner at the time we wanted. Very good advice. The couple ahead of us at the hostess stand did not have a reservation so they were turned away.

Tips:

Hike a trail steps away from the door. There is one for every level of fitness. Sweet potato fries at the Village Inn were great. Our hike took us to Tarbet, where we hopped on a cruise around Loch Lomond before hiking back for a complimentary whisky at Ashfield House. Nearby Inveraray Castle was great on a rainy day. Talk to a friendly local. They love to share their knowledge of the area.

Cristina, the owner, obviously takes a lot of pride in the accommodations she provides for visitors, this is obvious in the lovely furnishings, wonderful breakfasts, and high quality bedding and amenities in the rooms. I stayed at Ashfield House for four nights without a car and had a lovely and relaxing time. There are many scenic walks right from the B&B and plenty of places to get a bite to eat nearby. I went out walking every morning and also spent a lot of time relaxing, reading, and watching movies in my room during a couple of rainy afternoons. Most people probably drive to the area but don't be afraid to stay here if you're traveling by train or bus. You can make arrangements with Cristina to be picked up at the train station in the next town, Tarbet, or the bus from Glasgow to Tarbet will drop you off in Arrochar, just tell the driver that's where you're going. If you're looking for a really great place to stay, not too far from Glasgow, right on a Loch in a quiet, scenic village -- this is the place.

Ashfield House is a lovely bed and breakfast. The rooms are comfortable, beautifully decorated and the beds are very comfortable. The views from the house and especially the bedrooms are jaw dropping! The owners, Christina and Phil, were gracious and extremely helpful with suggestions for things to do in the area. Oh, I have to mention the fantastic New Orleans style buckwheat pancakes and the delicious homemade breads!

Tips:

Besides the many beautiful trails around Ashfield House, a must is a train ride to Mallaig. The Benmore Gardens, which are lovely and feature beautiful trees and plants from around the world, are a short beautiful drive away. Also, go to Inveraray for a delicious lunch and a tour of the castle.

The love and passion that has gone into making a stay at Ashfield House as comfortable as possible is evident from many aspects. The welcoming glass of Whiskey, of which there is a choice of three different types. The beautiful dainty confectionery hidden in a glass dome in the bedroom. The homemade bread for breakfast. The interesting books in the sitting room. Christina's skill at making her guests feel welcome adds to the reason why we would definitely recommend Ashfield House.

Tips:

We had our evening meal in the Village Inn which is a very pleasant walk from Ashfield House. Christina booked our table for us. If you have time to spare walk up to the Cobbler, or just sit and enjoy the Loch.

Ashfield House is wonderful! The location on Loch Long is stunning! Our room over looking the mountain was so perfectly appointed and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I have never had whisky without mixing it. Because of this experience I have a new appreciation for whisky all on it’s own!!!!!Thank you so much Cristina for a wonderful place to rest, eat and discover all new ‘tastes’!!!

The perfect B&B near Loch Lomond. You can really feel that Cristina does everything she can to make her hosts happy and feel welcome. The house's location is excellent, near the lake and an amazing view on the loch and the mountains. The room (lake view) was clean, big, functional... You feel at home. We were only two for our night stay and Cristina took the time to prepare us a wonderful breakfast in the morning (plenty of choices and local food). I recommend greatly this B&B: you won't regret your stay. Cristina, you rock :-) Thanks!

Tips:

The village Inn is 20 min away (on foot). The stroll to go there is really nice and the food is excellent. A really good recommendation from Cristina!

Thank you for taking the time to give me a review. I am glad you enjoyed the extra touches I provide and had a comfortable stay. I am sorry the shower was not working for your visit. It is 2 years old so as I said then, I was quite surprised it did not work. As we are located in some of the most stunning nature in the national forest and not a city, it took one day for me to get a repairman in however the full bath is often seen as a luxury. I also cook everything fresh for my guests so rather than keep your breakfast warming, thought it best to bring it to you fresh. I never rush my guests, in fact they often linger after.I hope this didn't detract from your overall stay.

Cristina keeps a beautiful house, elegantly furnished and very comfortable. Her breakfasts are truly superb: fresh fruit, excellent cooking and the best homemade bread ever. She is exceptionally welcoming, and I would consider this B&B as one of the best I've ever stayed in. (My only tiny quibble is that the shower wasn't as powerful as I'm used to - but then I do have a very powerful one at home...) We stayed for only one night at Ashfield House on our trip to the highlands. When we arrived, we received a very warm welcome from Cristina, and we were offered a complimentary whisky in her lovely sitting room. The whole of the property is beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. We had the mountain room and the views over the loch were stunning. The homemade treats in our room were yummy, thank you. Breakfast was wonderful too and Cristina even bakes her own bread. Cristina is a very lovely lady and she offered to book a restaurant for our evening meal. She made some suggestions and we decided on The Village Inn which we were very happy with. The restaurant is within walking distance of the B&B. We would very much recommend Ashfield House and if we are in the area again would certainly return. Thank you Cristina for your warm hospitality and we hope to stay with you again

Even before our stay started, Christina stayed in touch...checking if we needed any restaurant reservations....we knew in advance this would be a winner !!! And a winner it is. Very friendly reception by the owner, a complimentary single malt tasting, a cosy and well designed reception room, Victorian grandeur with modern facilities, a wide variety of breakfast options, available hiking tours and maps...you name it, and It was there.

The Village Inn Tavern in Arrochar has excellent food and is a short walk along Loch Long. Hiking in the Argyll Forest - trail access right out the door and past the lake! Driving to nearby Glen Coe offers stunning scenery and hearbreaking history. Tour boat of Loch Lomond was beautiful and entertaining with great history tales! McFarland clan roots are deep and treasured.

We had a fantastic stay at Ashfield house. The rooms are Perfect: clean, spacious and nice decorated. Very good breakfast too. Cristina and her husband arranged all our restaurant reservations and free pickups. Also a perfected place for travellers without a car, travelling by train and bus. I would love to be able to provide full laundering and drying service but I do have a porch entrance that is dry and have hooks on either side for my guests to hang their wet outter gear. Ashfield House is beautifully appointed and very comfortable indeed, with spectacular views from our bedroom and bathroom windows. Our room was immaculately clean, spacious and very quiet, with a lovely lounge for guests to relax in. The owner, Cristina, is a very welcoming host who makes a special effort for guests - whiskey tasting on arrival and laying on free transport to the original Loch Fyne restaurant were much appreciated! Breakfasts were delicious with lots of local/home made produce. Will definitely hope to return on our next trip to Scotland.

My second stay here with my wife and we can't rate Ashfield House highly enough. Everything is just perfect from the delightful decor to the friendliness of Cristina and Phil. The bedrooms are of a very high standard, both in decor and cleanliness. The Loch view and Mountain view bedrooms have a beautiful view down Loch Long with the mountains on either side. There is a good choice of breakfast which also caters for vegetarians. For anyone looking to stay in the Arrochar area then I would recommend Ashfield House. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. My wife and I will certainly be back.

Tips:

We have eaten in the Ben Arthur Bothy and the Village Inn (both in Arrochar) and would recommend both. Ashfield House is a great starting point for various walks around Arrochar, with low level walks like the Glen Loin Loop to the higher walks in the ' Arrochar Alps '. Cristina gave us a lovely warm welcome, the house is beautiful and inviting. The room was lovely with a comfy bed and lovely crisp white sheets and fluffy towels. Cristina had thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable, treat on arrival and an evening drink of our choice. breakfast was a feast with home made bread and preserve, fresh berries and yogurt and cereal and a choice of hot cooked food. Would love to stay again.

Tips:

The village is very pretty with the loch just across the road. There are walks in the area but we weren't their long enough unfortunately to do these. There are a few restaurants in the area we went to the village inn for convenience but would not recommend as it is a chain restaurant with most of the food preprepared and not good quality or taste. I would next time take the complementary transfer to loch fine oyster bar.

Tips:

Guests must catch a Train from the local station either to Oban or Fort William/Maleg, also visit The Green Welly, good stock of Whisky for sale , and not over priced(tourist rates), must eat at The Fish Restaurant or Fish Shack on Oban Docks, and a Trip to Mull is a must

The lounge available for guests was another bonus. Ashfield House is a gem. We will certainly stay again when next travelling to this part of Scotland.

Tips:

Following Cristina's suggestions we tried both Slanj and Loch Fynne restaurants. Both enjoyable, but for lovers of sea food Loch Fynne is a must, especially as they provide a courtesy pick up and return taxi (no need then to worry about driving back through the mountains after a drink). I loved my stay at Ashfield House. Cristina was very friendly, warm, welcoming and chatty. She gave good directions ahead of arrival and thinks of the little details that make your stay comfortable. The house is beautiful; the renovation has been done exceptionally tastefully and to high standards. There are some welcome homemade nibbles waiting in your room along with a sherry or whisky in the guest lounge. Breakfast is delicious too, with good choices. I'd love to come back another time.

Tips:

Thought the food at the nearby restaurant "Slanj" was very good, lovely venison pie. Loch Fyne oyster bar (12 miles around two further lochs from Arrochar) also provide a courtesy shuttle service but they tend to serve early as they close early.

One of the nicest places we have stayed. We were made to feel very welcome and will definitely stay again. Christine and Phil went out of there way to make our stay a memorable one as we were staying for our honeymoon. The views from our room was amazing.

Tips:

The village inn was good for food and in walking distance. A short drive away we found an Italian called Cucina in Balloch, very nice food. Falloch Falls a short drive away is worth seeing and a visit to the Glengoyne & Aucentoshan distillerys are a must.

**Highly Recommended** - A beautiful House in an Idyllic spot with fantastic views across Loch Long. The room was impeccable in both decor and cleanliness. The breakfast was great with plenty of options. Cristina and Phil where superb and couldn't do enough for you, really made us feel welcome and where very knowledgable about the area, places to visit and also venues to eat and drink. Together this made our visit to the Highlands very special indeed, we will carry some fantastic memories for many years to come, and thoroughly look forward to returning... Very Soon.

Cristina and Phil made us very welcome when we arrived. The property we found to be extremely well decorated and very clean. Rooms are a good size and well finished. Breakfast was beautifully cooked by Cristina who also makes her own home made bread and preserves. We would recommend this property to anyone staying in this area. Thank you Cristina and Phil

Tips:

Views from the front of the property are breath taking while at the rear there is a wonderful forest. There are lots to see and do in this area of the Western Highlands. A trip worth taking would be the train from the local railway station to Fort William. The scenery on this journey was beautiful.

Tips:

From Glasgow there are trains and buses to Arrochar and if you are driving it is easy to find with the House on the main road. Recommend going for a walk up the Cobbler or walk over to Tarbet where there are excellent views of Loch Lomond and boats across to the far side of Loch Lomond.

Absolutely lovely. Ashfield House is a charming place overlooking the loch. Easily one of the nicest B&Bs I've stayed at in Ireland and the UK, with little touches from the plush robes hanging on the back of the door to the complimentary, serve yourself scotch sipped in the guest room. We stayed the night as a waypoint between the Isle of Skye and the Lake District; when they heard we were interested in hiking, they pulled out personal books about the region and scanned us some pages.
